1762 Do帽a Mar铆a Tomasa Dur谩n L贸pez de C谩rdenas - Juan Patricio Morlete Ruiz
This portrait of a member of the criollo elite in New Spain showcases the odd mixture of french style and spanish construction methods that comprised new hispanic 18th century elite fashion.
Although similar looks appear with frequency in other 18th century mexican portraits, it was an uncommon sight in 18th century Mexico, mostly restricted to formal ocassions for a small minority of white elite families.

1678 Elena Lucrezia Cornaro - Antonio Molinari
She was the illegitimate daughter of a Venetian nobleman who became the first woman to receive an doctoral degree from a university. The degree was conferred in Padua on the 25 of June of 1678.
This portrait commemorating the event with a profussion of allegories and walls of latin text, is actually the first independent work of it's author, Antonio Molinari. With it's lighter palette, the work anticipates the later quasy roccoco style of the painter

Andrea Odoni
Artist: Lorenzo Lotto (Italian, c. 1480-1556)
Date: 1527
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: Royal Collection Trust, London, United Kingdom
Description
This portrait of the successful Venetian merchant Andrea Odoni (1488-1545) is one of the most innovative and dynamic portraits of the Italian Renaissance by Lorenzo Lotto, recently returned to Venice after thirteen years in Bergamo and anxious to impress possible patrons in Venice. The Venetian collector holds in one hand a statuette of Diana of Ephesus, symbol of nature and idolatry, and with the other he clasps a cross to his chest. One of several interpretations of this gesture is that Christianity takes precedence over nature and the pagan gods of antiquity.
