Series : The Mazer Runner
Pairing : Newt x reader
Note: I've had this idea in my head for a bit and when I saw a maze runner tiktok with this song, I had to incorporate it someone how. I think it explains the core three so well. please enjoy! Also please listen to “Solider, Poet, King” by Reno Loves you! I’ll tell you when!
Summary: The creators send a box with a greanie every month but this month a box with a guitar and music sheets come in. Y/n somehow knows how to play and read music. A special bonfire will be held after Newt hears Y/n sing and play. At the bonfire Newt gets super jealous when one of the boys decides to dance with you especially since he’s been pinning over you since you arrived. Lots of Minho meddling to get you two together.
Themes: angst, Jealousy, fluff, pinning,
Tumblr media
You were running down the last straight away of the maze with Minho. You smiled to see some of your fellow gladers waiting for you to arrive. Particularly one…but you knew he'd be there, I mean he always is.
Your lungs burned and your legs ached, running the maze was tough but there was something about being out there that felt right to you. Especially with one of your closest friends Minho, you knew nothing would happen to you and you wouldn't let anything happen to him.
“Why does It have to be so hot today” Minho moaned as the two arrived at the doors of the maze that were starting to close.
“Minho baby, it’s always hot.” You laughed starting to slow down.
“Yea..well today more than usual.” He winked at you and you shoved him. You and Minho always flirted but it was never serious. After countless hours in the maze together you had both shared your most inner thoughts and more importantly your feelings for a certain second in command.
You had never outright said it but Minho figured it out. The way you got a bit nervous when he was around, how you unconsciously looked around for him when he wasn't around. Not only that but when you weren't running the maze with Minho you were with him.
Newt was there at the maze doors, he always is. He always just brushes it off that as second in command he should make sure the runners come back and conveniently everytime he makes his rounds of the glade is when the runners come back.
Newt knew the real reason he was there though, you. Since the moment you came up in the box and looked at him with those y/e/c eyes, he was a goner. He knew he'd protect you, and be whatever you needed, even if he wanted to be more than friends. He couldn't risk it though, he couldn't risk losing you or making things awkward.
You were his best mate, together you had formed an unbreakable bond. You could tell each other everything, well minus your feelings for each other. You were the person he wanted to see when he was sad, when he needed comfort, and just all the time in general. When you were together you made him feel as if he could stay in the maze forever as long as he had you by his side.
Minho’s comment made Newt’s stomach turn, he watched as you shoved Minho, and he couldn't help but feel a pinch of jealousy. You never flirted with him, then again he wasn’t sure if he did. Although the first time he called you love it was an accident and after he realized it had made you blush he kept saying it.
“How was the maze today love” he said trying to drag your attention away from Minho.
You looked up to see Newt looking at you, you smiled softly, love, you loved when he said that to you.
“Uh, you know the usual. Ran around, gathered some info.” you placed your hands on your hips still catching your breath.
“Fantastic, well I’m going to continue my rou-”
Newt was cut off by the sound of the box coming up. You all looked at each other and started to walk over. A new grennie was coming up.
You had been in the glade for over a year now, at first it was frightening. Waking up, breathing hard having no idea where you were. The sun blinding you and it was so hot your skin was already slick with sweat. The scariest part wasn't that you couldn't remember anything but the amount of boys staring down at you.
You had shoved yourself into one of the corners, when one of the boys had jumped in.
“It’s okay, I'm not going to hurt you. You're safe” the boy’s voice was smooth with an accent, somehow it felt like your heart rate slowed down a little. That was until your looked up at all the boys again.
“Where am I? Why can't I-” you started to freak out again.
He reached out a hand, “just take my hand and I'll explain everything, okay?” he smiled. Slowly and hesitantly you took his hand but from looking into the sincerity of those brown eyes you knew you'd be alright.
Now it was someone else’s turn to feel everything you had once felt, you couldn't say you were jealous. The poor kid was shaking like a leaf, not only that but Gally wasn’t too kind either.
“Alright, let's unload this box and get moving people” Gally yelled out to everyone, collective groans echoed through the air.
“Well come on, love.” Newt reached a hand up to you from inside the box helping you down.
“Thank you” you turned away from him heading towards a box so he couldn't see that his gesture made you blush.
As you helped hand boxes to gladers above, you noticed a smaller box, one you hadn't seen before. You grabbed it and handed it to Minho.
“Hey, keep that one aside for me please” you said
“Why do you get to keep it?” Minho shook the box, “what if I want it” he smirked
“Minho, if Y/n wants the box, she gets it.” Newt shot Minho a look. Minho smirked again but this time in amusement. He loved to play this game, a game called make his second in command want to kill him.
“Careful Newt…You're making it sound like Y/n gets special treatment. I wish you were as sweet to me as you are to her..” he watched carefully as Newt’s face became red. You wanted to kill Minho, he always says the dumbest things, Newt was just being nice.
Before you Newt could open his mouth, you spoke. “Yea? Well maybe if you helped out in the gardens a little Newt would be nicer.” you climbed out of the box.
“Y-Yes, Y/n’s right” Newt was still flustered, he snuck a glance at you. You didn't seem fazed at all, you grabbed your box and walked away.
“What the bloody hell was that” Newt glared at Minho.
“Hey, I'm just trying to help you” Minho threw his hands up innocently. “Put yourself out of this misery and just confess already.”
“There is nothing to confess. Y/n and I are best mates. That is all.” Newt huffed out a breath, “sneaking” a glance at you walking away. Minho rolled his eyes, hopeless. You two were hopeless.
Once you found an area in shade, you sat down and opened the box. A guitar was in it, at least from your vague memory that's what you think it was. It had to be. You continued pulling things out and a sheet of music caught your eye. As your eyes skimmed it you realized you could read it. As you flipped the page you found more but with words.
“Soldier, Poet, King” you whispered to yourself, a song? (play first 30 seconds of song)
You propped the music up against the tree and settled the guitar in your lap. You strummed the strings following the sheet, it took you some time but you felt a tune starting to come together.
You took a deep breath and decided to try to put it all together. You began to softly sing the lyrics, you were so focused on making sure it was right you didn’t hear a certain blonde boy sneaking up on you.
Newt was in awe, he was confused when he saw your h/c ponytail facing the tree with something in your lap, he had come to find you hoping to walk to dinner together. When he came to investigate he wasn't expecting to hear the soft strumming and what had to be the sweetest voice he had ever heard, memories or not.
He listened as you sang but the sound of a twig breaking called him out. You turned around startled but you smiled when you saw him.
“Newt, you startled me”
“I’m sorry about that, please don’t stop. It sounded lovely.” he smiled down at you.
You blushed and turned away, you didn't think he'd heard you singing. When you turned up to look at him again you made sure you weren't blushing anymore.
“Ah, thank you. It’s not very good but-”
“No, no. It's good, you're good..at that” Newt wanted to slam his head into the tree. With you looking up at him, he couldn't focus, you were just too pretty.
You smiled and stood up packing up the guitar and music sheets. Newt lifted the box for you as the two of you walked.
“You should play at the bonfire.” he glanced to his side.
Immediately you wanted to say no. You didn't want everyone looking at you, what if they thought it was bad or if you mess up. You only just started to learn.
Newt noticed your hesitance, “you don't have to of course but I would really like to hear the full thing.”
And just like that you knew you were going to have to play at the bonfire. If you Newt wanted to hear it, how could you say no?
“Okay. I will. For you.” you smiled at him, then started to panic realizing the “for you” part was said out loud and not just in your head. Newt’s heart started to beat faster. For him?
“Y- You did help me secure the box from Minho! Yes, the least I could do is play it for you.” you tried to cover up your slip-up. Let's just say it worked because Newt’s heart started to slow down again and maybe it cracked a little.
“Fantastic” he gave you a tight-lipped smile and opened the door for you to enter the cookhouse. Newt watches as you walk in thanking him, he took a deep breath shaking his head and walked in after you.
You had been practicing all of last night after dinner and throughout the day today after coming back from the maze. The bonfire was tonight and you were nervous. Nervous about messing up the cords or lyrics but most importantly scared to mess up in front of Newt. You knew even if you did he would probably pretend like it didn't happen because he was sweet like that but still.
“You think if you sing to the walls maybe they will let us out?” you heard Minho’s voice behind you. You groan.
“Minho! You just ruined an almost perfect rehearsal.” you put the guitar down and turned to the dark haired boy.
“How was I supposed to know it was almost perfect.” Mingo sat down next to you.
“You just are, this needs to be perfect.” you huffed running your hands through your hair.
“Perfect for everyone, or just perfect for Newt?” he grinned at you, picking up a sheet of music.
“Perfect for everyone.” you snatched the sheet out of his hand and put it back.
“You know he likes you right? Newt is one of my best friends and I'm not trying to out him but you guys need to stop torturing each other.” Minho was getting fed up with this dance you two were playing. He was tired of seeing his two best friends tear themselves apart over each other when they literally feel the same way.
Especially Newt, Minho notices the way he looks at you. His gaze was always so soft, it kinda made Minho’s heart ache. You could break the rules or murder someone and Newt would still think you were perfect.
“And you need to stop saying that and getting my hopes up. Listen Minho, I've accepted that all we will ever be is friends.”
“But Y/n-”
“What was that?” you slapped a hand on his mouth, “sorry can't hear you” you chuckled
From the corner of his eye, Minho could see Newt watching the two of you. If telling the both of you won’t do anything maybe it was time to be more aggressive he thought. Minho quickly removed the guitar from your lap and jumped on.
“Min-!” you erupted into giggles, “what are you do-” he then started to tickle you
“Sorry? I can't hear you, what was that?” he continued his attack until one hard knee to his stomach knocked over. You both laid on the grass laughing, Minho picked up his head and glanced over at Newt. The expression on that boys face that pricless.
Newt watched when Minho jumped on you, he first took a step forward dropping his tool ready to arrive at your defense but the sound of you laughing stopped him. He took a deep breath and picked up the tool again squeezing his fist around it.
He tried to fight the jealousy eating at his chest but he couldn't. He wished it was him rolling around with you in the grass and then he blushed imagining it. He looked up again to see you leaning over Minho, eyes firey playfully yelling at him. The feeling threatened to overtake him again but he was being silly. It was just Minho, he knew how Newt felt about you, it was fine. Newt shook his head and continued his work.
The glade was buzzing because of the bonfire. It was the best time, everyone got to relax and drink some of Gally’s awful but effective drink. After Minho left you were able to practice more and focused on the parts you struggled with. The sun was dropping and the darker it got the more nervous you became
...
The bonfire was in full effect. Everyone was yelling, wrestling, and overall just having a good time. About half way through the night you finally came out from hiding and walked toward Minho and Newt.
“Finally ready?” Minho laughed and started to raise his glass.
You snatched his full glass out of his hand and before he could protest you chugged it. With a hiss, you handed Minho back his drink. Newt and Minho’s jaws dropped, you weren't opposed to drinking and there were nights Newt had to carry you back to your hammock. But you chugging? That meant you really must be nervous and getting very drunk tonight, which was the plan.
“Y/n-” before Newt could finish his sentence you finished his almost empty drink.
“Okay. Now I'm ready.” you grinned and grabbed your guitar and music sheets. You walked over to Alby and whispered to him.
“Everyone! Tonight Y/n has a special surprise for us!”
Everyone cheered, already drunk but also excited to see what you were up to. Newt clapped and felt a wave of nerves pass through him. He wasn't even performing but he just wanted you to do well.
“This came up in the box the other day…and I realized I knew how to play. So I hope you guys enjoy!” you yelled, the liquor definitely playing a part in your confidence. (start the song)
You started the strum the guitar and you looked up when Minho started to clap on beat like you practiced. Everyone started to clap and your adrenaline soared. You started to sing, at first, it was quiet just the clapping, you looked up, did you sound bad? Your eyes caught Newts.
He had this look in his eyes you couldn't decipher but he nodded at you and gave you a small smile, encouraging you to keep going.
Finally it seemed like the boys broke out of the trance and starting cheering loudly. You started moving around singing to boys in front of you and the longer you sang the more passionate you got. Even making them sing the chorus, “oh lei, oh lai, oh lord” echoed throughout the glade.
Minho laughed clenching his stomach, “oh god, the liquor is hitting her hard.” and he was right Newt looked back at you and were jumping around now hair everywhere.
You had finally made your way toward Minho and Newt. Singing at Minho and dancing around him, when the Poet part came up you stood right in front of Newt looking him straight in the eye. Nest held your gaze completely mesmerized by you. Hair everywhere, a light sheen of sweat on your chest, and the fire dancing across your skin. When you grinned at him Newt felt his heart stop. He felt like every fiber of his body was awake, in that moment he wanted nothing more than to pull you in and kiss you until you were breathless.
You were pulled away by Frypan as he picked you up to put you on his shoulder. You yelled in delight and with another swig of your drink, you played the song again from the top. Cheers of delight filled the air and the clapping to keep the beat continued.
Nest smiled and also took a sip of his drink. You looked so happy, so he was happy. He couldn't take his eyes off you, you looked so beautiful. It made his heart ache, he just wanted to hold you, he wanted you to see him as more. He took a bigger swig of his drink this time.
“She’s great” Minho turned to Newt
“Are we surprised?” Nest chucked and tore his gaze off you.
“How do you feel about your special serenade” Minho’s eyebrows raised, curious to see how Newt would deny this.
“She sang to everyone it wasn't just me..” he fiddled with his drink, focused on the amber liquid.
“Mhmm, but not the Poet part… just you.” this made Newt’s eyes snap to Minho. He was right, it was just him, he shook his head. No no no.
“We're just friends Minho, she doesn't care for me like and I-” from the corner of his eye Newt could see the new greenie taking your hand. Minho smirked this has gotten interesting.
“What is he doing,” Nest spoke flatly drink clenched in his hands.
“Mm, don't know maybe dancing. Either way, you're right, you're just friends. Maybe Y/n and the Greenie are a good match” Newt's eyes flared to Minho. Minho couldn't contain his laugh.
Maybe it was the liquor or maybe it was seeing the greenie with his hands on your hips but something in Newt snapped.
After Fry put you down you placed your guitar down, and you looked to see Minho and Newt talking. He wasn't even looking at you, your drunk thoughts were getting the best of you. Maybe Minho was wrong, Newt only saw you as a friend. The greenie came up to you and you locked arms with him spinning around laughing. It was innocent, until you started to get too dizzy and needed to stop. He placed his hands on your hips.
“Are you okay?” you could feel if thumb stroking your side. Before you could respond, someone pulled his hands off.
Newt didn't know what came over him but by the time he realized what he was doing he had pushed you behind him and was holding one of the greenie’s wrists.
“Let’s try to keep our hands to ourselves greenie.”
The greenie’s eyes widened, he shook his head and scrambled away from his second in command. You were in shock, what had gotten into Newt.
“W-what was that?” you furrowed your brows, he turned to look at you, he looked mad. Did you make Newt upset?
“D-did I upset you? I'm sor-” you stammered
“No love, it's- come on” he grabbed your wrist and started to gently but firmly pull you away from the crowd. Leaving the gladers who were too drunk to realize their lead singer was being swept away.
After he felt like you were far enough Newt dropped your wrist and ran a hand threw his hair. What was he doing? How was he going to explain this, he let his jealousy get the best of him. He couldn't stand the way the greenie looked at you, he had every right to look at you that way. You were gorgeous and Newt had no real claim over you. But you were still his.
After a couple seconds of silence your patience was running thin, the liquor not helping.
“Newt? Hellooo” you sighed waiting for answers
He spun around to face you, you were standing there looking up at him, hair pulled to one side.
“I- uh.. Listen love-” you cut him off
“Newt. I'm so confused and I swear it's not just Gally’s drink. What the hell was that, one minute I’m dancing and the next you're hauling me over here?”
“Y/n I know it's o—” you cut him off again. Rambling.
“No. No this is not okay. You can't just sweep me off without an explanation”
You were upset now, upset at how handsome he was and how badly you wanted to be with him. You just wanted this ache to go away. Not only that but the mix singles were driving you crazy. Sometimes you felt like there could be more and other times it felt like it was set in stone that you’d only ever be friends.
“I can't do this anymore Newt.”
This made Newt’s blood run cold. What did you mean by that? Do this? He started to breath a little harder, did he really just mess up this bad. You two hadn't even begun a romantic relationship and he already screwed up. He grabbed your biceps that were at your sides.
“Y/n I’m sorry I didn't mean to upset you”
“Well guess what I am. I-” tears filled your eyes, you didn't want to cry but everything was feeling like too much.
Newt's heart was breaking, as soon your eyes filled with tears he swore he heard a crack in his heart. You tried to scramble out of his grasp but he held you tight. His hands moved to your face steadying you.
“Y/n I love you.”
This made you go completely still. Anger disappearing and relief flooding you. He loved you.
“I’m sorry it took this long for me to say it and that it had to come out this way but I love you. I’ve loved you since the moment you came up from that box.”
His eyes desperately searched your face looking for any sign. A sign that maybe just maybe you loved him too.
You sagged against him, your head landing on his chest, your face still cradled in his hands. He held you, confused, holding his breath waiting for an answer. Finally, what had felt like years you pulled away and looked up at him. Your hands balled up against his chest.
“Newt, I love you too.”
He felt a tear slip down onto his hand, you were crying but smiling. He looked down at your lips and then back at your eyes. You nodded your head slightly giving him permission.
Softy, he pressed his lips against yours. He pulled away smiling, you grabbed a fist full of his shirt and pulled him in again wrapping the other hand around his neck. His hands left your face and slipped down to your waist pull you closer.
“Love, you have no idea how many times I've dreamed of this,” he whispered against your mouth a small smile creeping on his lips.
You grinned as he pulled you back in for another deep kiss. You made a sound that only made him pull you closer. He couldn’t believe it, the girl he was pinning over was finally in his arms.
You felt like your head was spinning, being in Newt’s arms just felt so right. Hell you didn’t know where he learned to kiss like this but you were breathless.
“Love?” Newt spoke softy like if he spoke too loudly the trance you we’re both in might break.
“Newt” you whispered
“As much as I’m enjoying this, you’re drunk, I’m a bit drunk” he pressed his forehead against yours.
He was right. You were drunk but there wasn’t anything about this that you didn’t want. Your cheeks burned, looking around and seeing that although the two of you were alone, the bonfire wasn’t too far away. You kissed his nose, then both his cheeks.
“You’re too sweet, you know that?” You ran both your hands through his hair your forearms against his shoulders
“Only for you remember?” He winked
“Does this mean I get special treatment?” You raised an eyebrow. He grabbed your forearms and pulled you in close.
“Don’t tell Minho but you’ve always gotten special treatment.”
You laughed and pushed off him, reaching out a hand. He grabbed it and the two of you walked back to the bonfire. Immediately Minho noticed you two especially you two holding hands. He decided to keep it to himself though, pretending to not notice. Tonight was about you two.
When everyone noticed you were back they begged to play the song again. Who were you to deny them? You began to play again, looking to Newt when you sang about the Poet. It was for him. He clapped along never taking his eyes off you. How could he?
Right before the last chorus Minho grabbed the guitar from you.
“Go dance.” He pushed you toward Newt and practically jumped into his arms.
He picked you up by your waist and spun you around. Everyone kept clapping keeping the beat as Newt placed you back down and danced with you. You spun around then dipped you, you couldn’t believe when he kissed you in front of everyone. Cheers erupted.
“Newt you shank!” Galley yelled
“Sorry lads” Newt smirked
When he brought you back up you collapsed against his chest. From exhaustion, liquor and laughing, when you saw Minho looking at the two of you, you grinned at him. He shook us head and shrugged as if saying “I told you so”
That night you and Newt walked back to your hammocks holding your hand, creeping around drunken asleep boys.
“Goodnight Y/n” he pressed a kiss to lips gently
“Goodnight Newt.” You laid down and he laid down in his hammock next to yours. You tried to fight sleep but the night caught up to you.
Newt watched as you slept, he couldn’t believe it. The ache in his chest was still there but it was different. Instead of being empty it was full so full that it ached. He knew as he watched you sleep before his eyes shut that he would always be by your side. No matter what.
The end :)
I hope you guys enjoyed, it’s lowkey long and I haven’t revised it. If you see any errors please let me know and make sure you comment for more!

“I don't want somebody having what we had”
Avatar: The way of water
Pairing: Neteyam x reader
Note: PART 2 of “the way that I feel about you is how you feel about her”
Sorry this took forever! But I hope you enjoy. This is based on the song “what we had” by Sody! Please listen to it!
Themes: angst! Jealously, second chance romance, arguing, fighting, pleading, rekindling, happy
Tumblr media
Neteyam didn't know how much time had passed. A few minutes? Hours? All he knew was the pain he felt in his chest. No. His whole body felt suffocated. His tears had dried but the stains remained. The cold ground against his forehead and hands on his head. He wanted to slam his head over and over until he could erase everything that had happened. He wanted a do over.
He sat up back onto his knees. Lifting his torso up. How could he be so stupid? How could he have let you walk away? The way you looked at him, the thought made him brace his arms against his thighs so he didn’t crumble to the ground again. Everything had happened so fast. Your confession caught him off guard. Then again nothing could have prepared him for you to say you loved him, that you saw him. What you had asked him was simple.
Did he have feelings for you?
Now with a clear mind. Yes. Of course he had feelings for you. How could he not? He had pushed away any attraction, any feeling or emotion remotely close to love when it came to you. Why? Because his parents wanted him with Neriaya. Yes, they loved you but Neriaya was more grounded and less impulsive than you.
That's what his parents thought but him? He thought you were perfect. You are perfect. Perfect for him. Yes, were you a bit impulsive and liked a good adventure? Yes. But he loved that about you. Everything about you, you always thought with your heart first, you cared deeply for others and you were loyal. The most loyal Na’vi to him. So loyal that you broke your heart to be by his side and broke it again to leave his side. He understood why you left, Neriaya. But now he knew what he wanted. He didn't care what his parents wanted.
Neteyam shot up. Standing tall now. He was going to fix this.
...
When Neteyam flew back to camp on his ikran it was dark. Na’vi were finishing up dinner, walking around. He searched for you among them. Then decided to head to your hut. Before he could even start he felt a small hand on his shoulder. He turned around.
“Neteyam” Neriaya.
“Hello Neriaya.” the nervousness he felt around her was gone. He no longer left pressure to impress her for his parents.
“Where were you?” she shifted her weight, she was nervous, “I looked for you before it got dark but you were nowhere to be found.” he flashed her a sympathetic smile.
Neteyam took a deep breath, he didn't want to do this here. In the middle of the camp. Anyway, if he is going to win you back he needs to set things straight with Neriaya. He grabbed her hand and led her toward the forest.
From not too far away Neytiri and Jake watched with Neriaya’s mother. Smiling.
“Well, looks like they are a good match.” Jake looks to his wife. But her smile isn't convincing
“Yes! They will be perfect. I will tell her father before we tell others.” Neriaya’s mother moved quickly to her hut.
“Ma Jake. I’m not sure our son is happy.” Neytiri stared at the forest where her son and Neriaya had disappeared into.
“Why do you say that?” Jake was confused, this is what Neytiri and him talked about.
“I don't know. I know my son. That wasn't a happy smile.” she crossed her arms.
Jake placed his hands on his mate's arms, “Neriaya is the best choice for him.”
Neytiri pushed Jake’s hands away.
“My mother and father thought Tsu'tey was a good match for me.” She crossed her arms
Jake scoffed, “do you agree?” a smirk appeared on Neytiri’s face.
Jake pulled his mate in by her waist.
“No, you’re the only woman for me”
“Ma Jake, if our son is not happy with Neriaya we cannot force him.” She wrapped her arms around him.
“You're right.” he kissed the top of her head.
...
“I’m sorry Neriaya. You are a great hunter, a great singer and a great woman. But... I cannot take you as my mate.”
“Ne-Neteyam? But I thought you...” she was confused. From a young age her parents told her who was to be her mate and he was rejecting her?
“Neriaya. I-I am in love with someone else.”
“Y/n, it's her isn't it.” She placed a hand on her mouth, she always saw you and Neteyam together but it didn't matter to her. Because Neteyam was supposed to be hers.
“Neriaya, listen to me” he put a hand on her shoulder. “You deserve a man who knows you. Knows every part you. A man who see’s you. We have never really spent time together or know each others favorite colors!”
Neteyam knew it was silly but it was true. He didn't know the first thing about Neriaya. How to calm her down if she is upset. How to read her body language. How to make her smile and when it's real. He knew everything about you.
Neriaya sat there for a second, thinking. The tears that were once flowing had stopped. Her “love” for Neteyam were things that had been told to her about him. She never truly saw him.
“You’re right. I don't know you Neteyam.”
He smiled kindly at her. Happy to not break her heart.
“I'm sorry it won't work out between us but I wish you happiness.”
“I'm sorry too Neteyam. Goodbye and may Ewya be on your side to win Y/n’s heart.” she smiled kindly and left.
Neteyam sighed he is going to need a lot more than Ewya’s help to get you back.
...
A day had passed. When Neteyam returned from his talk with Neriaya, he broke the news to his father about not wanting to be with Neriaya.
Neteyam faced his father in their hut.
“I know what I want. I'm..Y-you cannot tell who I can love. I want to be with Y/n and that is my decision. You canno-” Neteyam stopped rambling when he felt his mother's touch on his shoulder behind him.
“We know Neteyam and it is okay.” she smiled at him.
Neteyam looked back at his father, Jake had no anger on his face just pride.
“I myself know it is impossible to not fall in love with someone you're not supposed to” Jake smirked.
Neteyam’s eyes brimmed with tears. Tears of relieve. His parents weren't upset at all. They supported him.
“Y/n will make a fine Tsahik.”
...
When you woke up the entire village was buzzing about Neteyam and Neriaya. They were no longer to be mated. Everyone assumed the pair would mate so the sudden change in plans confused everyone. Neteyam was 19 and already a year late to pick a mate.
Although it felt like your heart had fixed itself a little at the news. It didn't make you feel better. Neteyam did not reciprocate feelings for you. Even if he didn't have a mate now. He would one day and you would love him from a distance.
Your mother was next to you while you ate.
“You know. Maybe it is time for you to find a mate my daughter.”
If your mother had said that two days ago maybe you would've gone into panic mode. But today? You thought about it. You didn't want to be alone. Although your mate could never be Neteyam, there were other fine men in the village.
“Maybe it is.” you looked up at her.
She was shocked, but a smile spread on her face. She knew you loved Neteyam, but knew you were never the Sully’s first choice for their oldest son.
“I will spread the word then.”
...
The news traveled fast because during your day many Na’vi approached you. Only one had caught your eye, Ru’ak. You had been friends when you were younger but you were always glued to Neteyam.
Neteyam had noticed the men in the village talking to you. Of course men always talked to you but today was different. It was excessive. He tail flicked back and forth in annoyance. You were his. You had always been his. Why are all the men suddenly interested in you.
“Oww! Watch it.” Lo’ak howled. Shoving Neteyam, his tail had flicked him.
“Sorry.” Neteyam mumbled
“What’s got you so worked up.” Lo’ak noticed his brother had been off today.
“Y/n, I feel as if all the men in our village have talked to her today.”
“Oh you didn’t hear?” Neteyam became stiff.
“Hear what.” His breathing picking up
“Her mother told Tsahik she was looking for a mate.”
Neteyam’s head spun. No. This wasn’t happening. He had kept his distance waiting for the right time to pull you aside to talk. It had been about a week now since he and his parents made the announcement about him and Neriaya.
He thought the news would make you happy but now you had suddenly decided you needed a mate?!
“No..n-no that can’t be true.” He shook his head.
“Ru’ak is really chatting her up.” Lo’ak grinned, He loved seeing his brother riled up.
Neteyam’s head snapped in your direction, it was true. Ru’ak had made you laugh. Your beautiful smile was directed towards Ru’ak. Not him. No way was he letting Ru’ak have you.
The sun had started to set, Ru’ak asked you to join him on a sunset ride with your ikrans. You decided to accept the invitation. Fixing your braids and grabbing a snack in your hut. Before leaving you paused for a second. This is going fast. A little too fast. Your heart was still broken, shattered.
Were you ready to open your heart to another? The answer was no. But this was better than feeling the utter despair and loneliness from being rejected. Just as you were about to walk out again. He walked in. Neteyam.
He looked out of breath.
“Wha-what are you doing here,” you spoke suddenly feeling as out of breath as him.
“You’re going somewhere with Ru’ak.” His eye brows furrowed.
“That’s none of your business Neteyam.” You tried to walk by him but he stepped in front of you.
“Y/n..-“
You stepped back from him, frustrated. You didn’t think your heart could rip apart anymore but being this close to him felt like someone was doing just that.
“What are you doing Neteyam. Don’t you know this hurts me. You being here hurts me. You talking to me hurts me.” You looked into his eyes. Pain flashed through his. You tried to push him aside but he would budge.
“I know, but I called things off with Neriaya!” He raised his voice a little and you stopped fighting him. Did this mean?
“I heard.” You looked down
Neteyam was confused, if you had heard the news... Why did you suddenly want a mate?
“I don't understand... I heard you are looking for a mate.” Neteyam’s voice was low.
“I am.” you stood your ground, looking him in eye.
“Y/n-” he reached for your shoulder, you took a step back.
“Neteyam, it's too late.” you looked away. You weren't sure why he was doing this. Even if he confessed his feelings for you, how would you know it wasn't just so he wouldn't lose you? Is he mistaking friendship for love.
His heart dropped hearing those words leave your lips.
“Neteyam, Its hard for me to believe that suddenly you have feelings for me. That suddenly you know now that you see me and love, especially when I asked you directly if you had feelings for me.” although it hurt you to say this, you knew you had to. To protect yourself.
“I know Y/n! And trust me I have been kicking myself ever since.”
“I- I just, I'm tired Neteyam. My heart keeps being thrown around and I can't take it anymore.” tears brimmed your eyes, you tried to compose yourself.
“You don't love me, now you do? You end your engagement and I hear from you for days? And now you're mad at me?! Me. For looking for a mate when all my life I had been waiting for you.” you were angry now. Angry at him.
Neteyam saw the change in you, you were angry but so was he.
“I know I messed up Y/n, but you say you love me all your life and now you go looking for a mate?” it was a low blow and he knew it but he let his emotions get the best of him. Only with you did he seem to lose his ability to think.
You gasped in anger. “You know what, I have a date to get to. I've had enough of you catching me off guard and forcing conversations.”
He knew you were right. Maybe if he hadnt forced the conversation a couple weeks ago and now, you two wouldn't be fighting.
“Y/n..” He sighed and took a deep breath trying to clear his head to say what he actually wanted to say.
“No. Netetam. I've kept Ru’ak waiting long enough. I'm leaving.” you pushed by him and he let you. This conversation was going nowhere, he knew you. You needed to cool off before trying again.
And he was going to try again. Because there was no way he was going to let you walk away from away a third time.
...
You couldn't go on the date with Ru’ak. It was unfair to him and you let him down easy. Although you thought he was great, he wasn't the one for you. You knew that.
Instead you flew alone on your Ikran over the forest before noticing Lo’ak on certain tree.
You landed softy and climbed up to meet him, he had already seen you coming and made room for you.
“Hello Y/n” he smiled at you as you sat down.
“Lo’ak” you hugged his side. He was like a younger brother you to.
“Crazy couple weeks huh.” he smirked, he had heard all sides of the story possible besides from you. Between Kiri, Neteyam and his parents, he had a good idea of what was going on.
“You know it.” you shook your head.
“How was Ru’ak” he liked Ru’ak but he knew he was nowhere close to his older brother.
“I didnt go. I let him down easy. It wasn't fair to him.” you looked off into the sky. You enjoyed the small breeze and the smell of the forest.
Lo’ak raised an eyebrow. Proud of you. “Youre right it wasn't.”
You narrowed your eyes had him playfully, “what are you doing here” he was usually out here.
“Had to escape, all this mate talk has mother and father talking about mates for me, but if I'm being honest I feel like my mate isn't here.” he looked sad, you hugged him again.
“She may not be here, but Ewya always has a plan.” he smiled and leaned into you.
“You're right, I think I'm going to head back now, you coming?” he stood up and you followed him down the tree.
“No, I need a little more time to think, but you know where i’ll be” you winked at him and mounted your Ikran.
Lo’ak watched you leave, and he ran back to camp. He had a mission to accomplish.
...
He found just who he was looking for. Neteyam was in the hut, laying down sulking. He gave Lo’ak a tight smile before looking back up at the ceiling. Kiri was there too and he smirked at her, she tilted her head aware Lo’ak was up to something.
“Kiri! Has Y/n told you about her date yet? You have to talk to her, turns out she had a great time.” Kiri’s eyes widened, “o-oh really? I'll have to talk to then.”
Neteyam’s ears flattened back, he started to breath heavily. What the hell was Lo’ak playing at.
“Do you think they will be mates?” Kiri continued, Neteyam’s jaw clenched. It was taking every fiber in his body to not lose it.
“Yeah! Romantic Ikran ride and If I'm not wrong I think he kissed her from the way she was blushing.”
Neteyam snapped.
He stood right in front of his brother, fisted balled up against his sides.
“What the hell did you say”
“Hey, don't be mad at me that's just what I heard. If you don't believe me, I know she is at the rock you two always hang out at.” Lo’ak knew he was pouring salt into his brothers wounds. Suggesting that you would even bring another guy to your designated spot.
Neteyam shoved past Lo’ak and headed straight to you.
...
When Neteyam landed his Ikran his anger started to dissipate. Especially after seeing you alone sitting down, he started to remember that he needed to keep his head clear.
You turned to the noise near you and looked away when you saw it was him.
Neteyam kept his distance, “Y/n, is it okay if we talk?” he wasn't going to make the same mistake twice.
You took a deep breath. It was better to talk, enough of the fighting. You turned around and stood up. “Yes.”
His heart soared, you were giving him a chance.
“Y/n I know this has been so confusing and that I have caused you so much pain. But please just hear me out. I know you had an amazing date with you Ru’ak but please just listen.” he slowly started to make his way towards you.
“Neteyam-” you started to speak but he cut you off.
“Y/n, please.” his eyes held you captive, you couldn't look away even if you wanted to. You nodded your head for him to continue.
“When you asked me if I had feelings for you, I was so off guard. So many things were happening at once I couldn't think straight, usually around you it's always hard to think straight.” a small smile started to make its way to your lips.
“Even when we were little it was hard, but you always made me feel so comfortable and let me just be me around you. You know me better than anyone. I know you. You, better than anyone. What makes you laugh, sad, mad, how loyal you are, how much you care for other Na’vi, how passionate you are. And it kills me to know that I didn't see how much you were hurting over me.” your eyes started to tear up.
“Y/n, when it came to feelings for you I always pushed them away and made myself think it was only platonic. Even though j knew they weren't, it was because my parents always thought Neriaya was the best choice for me. They were wrong. I told them that, right after we talked the first time. I called off the engagement because I knew that my feelings for you were far from platonic.”
“I can't stand the thought of not talking to you one day and I know I'm being selfish, and I have no right but I can't help thinking of you every night. And I don't want to say it, because I know it's bad but I don't want somebody having what we had.”
“Y/n, I see you” his fingers brushed your chin making you look up at him. “And I love you. I always have.”
All your life you had wanted to hear those words. Your heart was beating out of your chest. Excitement and joy.
Everything he had said, All your doubts and worries disappeared. Neteyam saw you, he loved you.
“I see you Neteyam and I love you too.” tears finally spilled from your eyes.
“And for the record, I didn't go on the date with Ru’ak. I couldn't, my heart has always and will always belong to you.”
He let out a shaky laugh, finally feeling like he was getting air. The thought of you with someone else was crippling him. Lo’ak... He should've known his brother was playing him, but thank Ewya he did. He will have to thank him later.
“And I have always belonged to you.”
He brought both hands to your cheeks and he brushed away your tears with his thumbs cradling your face. You placed your hands on his wrists, holding his gaze.
Neteyam looked down at your lips then back into your eyes. You did the same. Anticipation sizzling through the air. Your entire body felt on edge. Neteyam’s breathing picked up.
“Nete..” you whispered just before closing your eyes and Neteyam closed the distance between the two you.
He groaned into your mouth hearing his beloved nickname leave your lips.
He pulled away from you for a second to look at you. How could he have waited this long to make you his? One kiss and he was ready to get on his knees for you.
He deepened the kiss and moved his hands to pull you back in and closer by your waist. Your hands gripped his shoulders.
When the two of you broke apart after several minutes you were out of breath. Panting.
“You're mine.” he grinned pressing his forehead against yours.
...
I finally finished. I am so sorry for the wait, but I kept deleting and rewriting and I am finally happy with this! If you guys want I can write a little epilogue ;). Thank you for all the supportnoknosrt one and if wasn't for all the love part 2 would never exist!

Please listen while you read.I’ll let you know when to start playing it.
Themes: sad, angst, unrequited love, jealously
Tumblr media
You and Neteyam were flying your Ikrans, it was almost eclipse and you wanted to go on one last ride for the day.
“Come on Nete! We’re almost there!” You yell glancing over your shoulder.
There he was your mighty warrior flying right behind you.
“Slow down! Y/n! You’re going to crash” he laughed at you, with your adventurous spirit he didn’t understand why you were so close to him. Lo’ak would probably be a better fit to satisfy your need for adrenaline.
What Neteyam didn’t know is when you were close to him your adrenaline felt as if you had dived off a mountain. You had loved him all your life. You first met when you were kids.
...
You were climbing a tree and claimed it as yours. One day Lo’ak, Kiri and Spider had stumbled across the same tree. You were high up playing by yourself.
“Hey! That’s our tree get down!” Lo’ak yelled
Your head snapped down to the two Na’vi and a human? You had seen humans before but never this close. Your mother didn’t like you around them. You slowly started to make your way but not all the way just enough to talk without yelling.
“This is my tree! You go away!” You furrowed your brows, you knew he was Lo’ak the youngest son of the Olo’eyktan. But that didn’t mean you were going to give up your tree.
“Please? We really like this tree. We found it yesterday.” Kiri spoke not wanting to fight.
“Kiri! Shh! This has always been our tree.” Lo’ak whispered. You narrowed your eyes, you didn’t like liars.
“Well this has been my tree for 1 week now. So it is mine.” You stuck your tongue out. You sat down on a low branch. Swinging your legs, your tail flicking side to side, a little nervous.
Quickly Lo’ak jumped up and grabbed you by your tail. Making you fall backward off the tree, and you fell to the ground hard. You winced.
“Lo’ak!” you heard an unfamiliar voice, it wasn't one of the adults which was good.
You didn't turn to even look at the voice and you tackled Lo’ak. You both rolled around but you ended up on top pinning him down, you were older so just a little bit bigger than him.
“That was mean!” your eyes brimmed with tears. Lo’ak eyes widened, he didn't want to make you cry. He felt bad. Before he could say anything you were being picked up gently. You tried to turn but the strong arms around you kept you still.
“What is going on here?” your ears flattened back, a boy was holding you. You have never been held by a boy. A blush coated your cheeks.
“Lo’ak wanted this tree and she didn't want to move” Kiri was annoyed, she knew Neteyam was going to give them a speech. He was only 8 yet had the moral compass of a saint.
The strong arms put you down and turned you around to face them. It was the first time your heart ever stopped for Neteyam and it wasn't the last. He was beautiful.
“Are you okay? I'm Neteyam. Sorry about my brother.” He smiles at you and your knees went weak.
“Woah. Do you need to see Tsahik?” he helped you stand up again.
“N-no, I'm okay. Thank you.” you couldn't look into his eyes. He nodded and let you go. At that moment, you wanted to collapse so he would hold you again.
“Lo’ak, if you apologize I won’t tell mother and father.” He put his hands on his hips, while he addressed his brother with a serious tone. Kiri and Spider chuckled, Neteyam always so serious.
Your eyes widened. At that moment you fell in love for the first time. This Neteyam, he stood up for you, held you, and was very beautiful. Your 8-year-old heart decided that one day. He would be your mate.
“I’m sorry.” Lo’ak looked at you, “we can share the tree?” He offered as a peace offering.
A grin broke out on your face.
“Yes! Let's play. You too.” you reached for Neteyam’s hand and lead him to the tree. You weren't letting him go.
...
You felt Neteyam’s Ikran land next to yours. You sat down on the ledge of the mountain. You always loved high places. He saw down close next to you, thighs brushing together.
“We’re getting too old to sneak off Y/n.” Neteyam chuckled. You immediately frowned. You hated being reminded of your age. 19. You were both over due to pick a mate. Especially him.
He was the future Olo’eyktan, he should’ve picked his mate by now. You of course hadn’t picked because well, you wanted him. It wasn’t fair to mate with anyone else when your heart completely belonged to Neteyam.
“Ah, why the frown.” Neteyam bumped your shoulder. You forced a smile back on your face.
“Ah you know I hate the idea of growing up.” you shook your head.
“I know, I know. I'm sorry.” Neteyam didn't understand why it upset you so much. You were at the best part of your adulthood, both one of the people, warriors, and you could pick a mate.
“I just don't want us to grow apart.” you ducked your head down, to hide your eyes from him. Sometimes you were scared he would see how you truly felt about him.
“Oh Y/n” he turned and hugged you.
You buried your head in his shoulder, wrapping your arms around him. You loved when he held you. It didn't often happen now that you were older. It was crazy to feel the difference; when you were younger, he was smaller and skinny. Now he was way taller and muscular. In the moments he did hold you, you wished you could stay like this forever.
“You will ways be my best friend.” You placed your forehead on his shoulder. Ouch. You hated it. Hated the idea of just being a friend. But you’d would rather be a best friend than lose him all together. When the time came and he chose a mate, you probably wouldn’t be able to share moments like this anymore.
“Thank you, Neteyam.” He pulled away from you and you missed his warmth.
“Can I ask you something?” He had a serious expression on his face.
You shifted uncomfortably. You tried to make your heart settle. Every time he got serious you wished it was him about to confess his love for you. You knew though. He was never going to.
“Yes, anything Neteyam.” you smiled
“Ah...” he looked away, blushing. You tilted your head at him. “I just figured since, y-you're a girl.”
“Yes. Yes, Neteyam, I am a girl.” you chuckled nervously. What was this about?
“How do you think a girl would want to be asked to be my mate?”
Your heart sunk to the deepest part of pandora’s forest. You swear you could hear the crack appearing on your heart.
“W-what?” your voice was soft. It couldn't be, he wasn't talking about-
“Neriaya.” you slowly looked away from him, “you know how I feel about her, and I think she may feel the same.”
You took a deep breath, tears emerged their way into your eyes and forced them back. You wouldn't cry in front of him. Neriaya. Of course. You knew already. How could you not? You watched everything Neteyam did. You didn't fail to notice his blush when Neriaya spoke to him, how he would stand a little straighter when she passed him, how he would stare.
He had always had his eye on her and you had your eye on him. You hoped that as you got older he would notice you. Maybe you could change his mind and start to fall in love with you instead . Looks like your time had run out.
“Neteyam, any girl would love to be your mate. Whatever you choose to do, she will love.” You stood up. You wouldn’t torture yourself like this. There was no way you were helping him plan this. You couldn’t.
“I was hopping maybe you could help me though?” You dared to look at him, hoping your mask wouldn’t falter. His eyes were hopeful and excited. No. You couldn’t do this.
“I’m not very romantic. Ask Kiri. Let’s go. It’s almost dark.” You jumped on your Ikran, waiting for him to mount his before you took off. You flew fast ahead of him, tears escaping, the wind cleaning them off your cheeks for you.
Neteyam was a bit confused. But he figured you were just worried about getting in trouble, this would’ve been your third strike with your mom. He laughed at the thought.
The next couple weeks, 2 and a half to be exact, not that you were counting. You distanced yourself from Neteyam. Now that he expressed his plans to ask Neriaya to be his mate, it was too painful. You didn't want to hear or even think about it. Being away from him was the only way. Yesterday you caught the two of them talking quietly after dinner. The way he looked at her made you crumble. You walked to your hut, thank Ewya your mom wasn't there. Because you collapsed to the floor and cried. You cried for the 8-year-old girl, who you promised that he would be your mate. You also cried for yourself. The 19-year-old girl who was in love with Neteyam.
Neteyam didn't understand why you had been so distant. He was kind of upset honestly. You were his best friend, he had confessed his intentions with Neriaya. Why weren't you excited for him and helping him? Honestly you avoiding him upset him to his core. He felt off the past week's without you by his side. There was even a moment where you pasted right by him. Without even a glance. He just shook his head. What was wrong?
He knew once he mated with Neriaya, he wasn't going to be able to spend much time with you. The thought of not seeing you every day hurt him, he hated how it made him feel. But he would have Neriaya. His parents always talked about her to him. How pretty she was, a good hunter, and how she could be a good Tsahik. To Neteyam, he knew if chose Neriaya, his parents would be proud and happy. He from then on he pictured Neriaya as his mate.
She was everything his parents said she was. Neteyam could tell Neriaya would be shy when he talked to her. She was nice and easy to talk to, Neteyam wasn’t necessarily eager to mate, he brushed it off when he turned 18 but when he heard his parents talking about the fact that he hadn't chosen a mate. He knew he has no choice but to do it now.
Today, he had finally had enough of your ignoring game. He started looking everywhere for you and he eventually found you with Kiri doing her hair.
“Hello.” Kiri smiled at his greeting her brother. Neteyam watched you carefully as you looked up from Kiri’s hair to him. You had a look on your face he couldn't decipher it, it made he angry. He knew you better than everyone else. What was wrong?
When you looked at him it was a mix of emotions. Happy to see his face, sad to know you were losing him, and jealous that someone else gets the privileget love him.
“Neteyam,” you spoke quickly and went back to the braids. Kiri raised an eyebrow and knew this wasn’t going to end well. Y/n didn’t have to say but Kiri knew you were upset about Neteyam’s plans. Kiri didn’t understand how you didn’t tell Neteyam you loved him or how Neteyam didn’t notice.
“Y/n is doing my hair.” she quickly interject after the 15 seconds of silence.
“Uh y-yeah. Maybe you could do mine after?” his eyes shot to the floor.
Kiro rolled her eyes. Oh hell no. She thought breaks Y/n’s heart and can't even look her in the eye?
“She just started. It will take forever. Maybe ask Neriaya?” Kiri’s eyes were challenging. She wanted to push her brother. What would he do?
You sat there silently, not wanting to comment. Kiri even suggesting Neriaya doing Neteyam’s hair hurt. You used to do his hair.
“I can wait.” He searched your eyes, willing you to look at him and you did. Those orange eyes melting you.
“Yea.” you nodded, you would usually be happier but instead you held your composer. This didn't change anything between the two of.
It took you 30 minutes to do Kiri’s hair. You and Kiri just talked while Neteyam sat with his eyes closed against the wall. When you turned to look at him he was asleep.
“Well, so much for waiting” Kiri laughed before walking out of the hut.
You watched her retreating form and turned back to Neteyam. You knelt down beside him and looked at him. He looks so calm, his chest rising and falling. You brushed away the braid that fell on his face. You chuckled, he really did need his hair done. You sighed and got up.
You felt a hand snap onto your wrist. You jumped and looked down. Neteyam was looking at you through sleepy eyes.
“Ah, I'm sorry. I dozed off but I'm ready.” he's sat up quickly and started to undo the beads.
You knelt down slowly. His back to you.
“Okay, lay back when you're ready.” you twirled your own braid around your finger. (Play song)
You noticed movement and Neteyamms strong back was coming down toward you. His head hit your thighs and his eyes peered up at you. He was so handsome. You licked your lips nervously and started to get to work.
“Y/n..” Neteyam started but stopped. You didn't acknowledge it. Didn't ask for him to repeat himself. You didn't want to talk. You wanted to enjoy the feeling of him being yours. Or pretending he's yours.
Neteyam closed him eyes and took a deep breath. Your fingers felt great, but he couldn't shake the weight on his chest. He hated this tension. Usually when you did his hair it was non stop laughing, you slapping him to stay still. He missed it. He missed you. He opened his mouth again.
“Kiri talked my ear off, I'll let you know when I'm done.” you said quietly not giving him a chance to speak.
He gave you a tight smile and closed his eyes again.
...
“Done.” you finally spoke after almost an hour. His hair was longer than Kiri’s. He didn't respond. He's asleep again. You shook his shoulder gently.
“Neteyam?”
His eyes fluttered open and a small smile started to form. He looked at you, you looked so pretty.
“Hi.” he then remembered he was in your lap and that you did his hair. He sat up quickly and stood up. You looked up at him with furrowed brows. Okay...
He blushed. Why did he do that? You had braided his hair thousands of times. He never felt nervous. It was probably the tension between the two of you. He was fixing that today.
“Y/n. I want to talk.” he sighed.
“Neteyam-” you huffed ready to shut him down.
“Not here. Come on” he grabbed your hand and led you towards the ikran. You whipped your hand away.
“Neteyam!” you whisper yelled. It was late in the afternoon. Na’vi roaming everywhere getting ready for dinner. What if Neriaya saw them holding hands?
“What? Come on.” Neteyam kept moving. You felt people looking at you, so you followed him. Not wanting to cause a scene.
...
You landed your ikran next to Neteyam’s, you were fuming. How dare he. How dare you push this conversation on you.
“What is wrong with you?!” you yelled at him as soon as your feet hit the ground marching toward him.
“Me? What's wrong with you!” he yelled back. He was frustrated. This wasn't him.
“I'm sorry. I didn't mean to yell.” he immediately felt bad. He never yelled at you.
“I didn't want to talk right now! Why are you doing this? You have other things to worry about right now.” your voice softened at every sentence. No longer mad. Just sad and frustrated. You were tired of hurting.
He walked forward and grabbed your hands. Bending his neck down a little to look you in the eyes, his hair brushing your wrists.
“Y/n right now I need you more than ever. You're my best friend. I need your support right now.”
A confused expression passed along your face that turned into exhaustion, eyebrows bunching together.
“Neteyam. I-I’m sorry but I can't be there for you with this.” you tried to yank your hands away but his grip held you.
He shook his head side to side, mouth dropping open a little.
“Y/n, everything was fine between us. What happened? I feel like you're keeping your distance, like you don't want to be around me. You're my best friend.” His voice dropped low, he swallowed hard getting emotional.
You couldn't take it anymore. You couldn't hear the word best friend again. Your knees buckled. Neteyam caught you, lowering to his knees as well. His eyes widened.
“Neteyam please.” your voice cracked, and your head was low. Shielding your face from him.
“Please don't ask this of me. You cannot ask for this.” the weight of carrying all these feelings was finally catching up to you, it was too much. It was just spilling all out.
He pulled you to his chest when you started crying but you used your arms to create distance. Your hands pushing against his shoulders.
“Y/n talk to me.” you couldn't help him? You couldn't be there for him with his mate?
“I can't do this anymore Nete.” his heart broke hearing his nick name. He missed it.
“I can't help you, or be around you or even go to the ceremony.” tears spilled over your cheeks. He tried to force your head up but you shook him off and continued. He was lost.
“I- I wish that I could've told you how I felt and if only you knew how it breaks my heart, it breaks my heart to know you love Neriaya.” you looked up at him finally. His eyes were cloudy with tears as well. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. Did this mean you..?
“Y/n are you saying?” his voice was shaky. He felt his entire world flip upside down. “Y/n-”
You cut him off.
“So no. No Neteyam. I cannot be there for you. Because the way that I feel about you. Is how you feel about her.” you wiped tears from your face and stood up.
He stood up with you, his hands still attached to your forearms.
“I -Y/n... This is.. I don't-” He stuttered. He was so thrown off. You? You loved him?
“You don't have to say anything. You are going to be mated to Neriaya. That's okay. I want you to be happy. But I won't do it Neteyam. I won't break what is left of my heart for you.” you were numb. You felt as if you had poured all the emotion you had left out to him.
“Why didn't you ever..why didn't you tell me?” Neteyam couldn't stop staring at you. He always thought you were beautiful but did he see you as his mate? Did he have feelings for you? The same way he felt about Neriaya? Did he even love Neriaya?
Because how he felt in this moment. This is what he would describe heartbreak to be. Your tear-stained face. Puffy eyes. The weight of your words. He was losing you. He was losing his best friend. He was losing you forever.
“Neteyam, you've always looked at Neriaya. Always drawn to her. I knew and I thought being your best friend would be enough but it's not.” your tone was flat. It scared him, some emotion was better than none. He hated this. He hated that he made you feel this way.
“Y/n, please let's talk about this.” he was desperate. He didn't know if he truly had feelings for you but he knew he didn't want to lose you. He wanted you as close as possible at the moment. He didn't want you to walk away. Not from him.
He didn't think. He just pulled you to his arms.
You went from zero emotion to one hundred emotions to then only one. Anger.
“Enough!” you yelled. “Enough! Enough!” you pounded on his chest forcing him to let you go.
“Neteyam enough. No more. There is no saving this. There is no fixing this. There is no us!“
He let you go and you instantly put distance between the two of you stepping back.
“Y/n please. Yes, we can. We can fix this.” He held his arms out as he talked.
“Do you have feelings for me?” your voice was barely above a whisper. But somehow he heard you. He just stared at you.
“Well?” you raised an eyebrow. You really like to torture yourself.
“I-I don't know.” his arms dropped to his sides.
“Neteyam.” you took a step towards him. A small one but enough for you to be able to see those beautiful eyes.
“I see you. I love you. And because of that I can't do the best friend thing with you. Enough. Please” and with that, you turned around and jumped on your ikran. Just like that day a couple of weeks ago. You wiped the tears from your eyes except this time It was a lot more painful.
Neteyam collapsed to his knees. Head in his hands. He had lost you. He started to cry. How was he going to fix this? He knew he needed you. He needed you to survive. But did he have feelings for you?
....
Sorry! Don’t hate me! I just was so inspired by this song. Should I make a part two? I'm also working on 2 other requests so to the people who requested them, they are in the works don't worry.
PART 2 is finally up!

“I’m a bet?”
Avatar: the way of water
Neteyam x reader, Ao’nong x reader (one sided)
Request : Y/n finds out that Ao’nong was only flirting with her as a bet with his friends. Tsireya overhears a conversation of Ao’nung and his friends talking about the bet. When Neteyam finds out he’s pissed. Y/n stubbles across the argument and she confronts Ao’nung. Neteyam comforts her. @rochyu
Note: angst! I got some inspiration of “she’s all that”, confrontation, confession of feelings, heart ache, swearing, fighting, pinning, comforting.
Tumblr media
Since you had arrived with the Sullys at the Metkayina, you were instantly enamored with Ao’nung. Yes, he was a jerk the first couple of weeks, but the past few days were different. He had been so lovely to you. He asked if you wanted to practice breathing and diving, playing little games with him. It made your heart soar.
You had finished your chores and headed to the rock where everyone was meeting to practice more diving and breathing exercises. Neteyam, Rotxo, Kiri, Ao’nung, Lo’ak, and Tsireya we're already there.
“Hey! Sorry to keep you all waiting,” you said climbing up on the rock.
“No worries, we would wait forever for you.” Ao’nung smiled at you and reached out a hand to help you sit next to him.
“Is that so?” you blushed and took his hand. He was such a gentleman.
“Are you all set for tonight?” he brushed a strand of hair away from your face.
“Yes, can't wait” you smiled at him and his eyes were so blue.
Yesterday night after dinner Ao’nung asked you out. He said he would take you to one of his favorite spots and would swim. You were so excited, it would just be the two of you. You looked away from his and Neteyam’s eyes caught yours.
Neteyam had noticed Ao’nung’s sudden change of attitude with you. To everyone else, he was still acting like a jerk. Neteyam has had a crush on you since you were kids running around in the forest and flying your ikrans together. The way you would smile and laugh with him is the way you are smiling and laughing with Ao’nung now. He hated it, that should be him with you. He knew you had a bit of a crush on Ao’nung but thought maybe you had feelings for him too. Especially when you heard he was leaving with his family, you begged for them to take you with them. He was glad his mother and father agreed because the thought of not seeing you again was too painful to even imagine.
He also was well aware of the fact that you were all 18. Which meant you could start thinking about choosing your future mate. The person you would spend the rest of your life loving. Neteyam had already chosen, you were the only person he could imagine himself with. How could he not? The two of you were always the person the other went to when you needed to talk or even just someone to sit in silence with. And if somehow you chose him too, he would spend his life loving you and making sure you were happy.
“Where are you two going tonight?” Tsireya questioned, she didn't think there was anymore training going on for the rest of the day.
“Y/n and I are going to swim tonight.” Ao’nung answered happily looking at Rotxo. Rotxo smirked at this and Kiri narrowed her eyes at him. Tsireya didn't miss this either.
Neteyam felt his heart drop to his stomach, he saw Ao’nung whisk you away after dinner but it had been brief, he didn't think anything of it. Now that he knew it was him asking you on a date, he wished he would have picked you up and escorted you back to the hut himself.
“Don’t you think that might be a little dangerous, we aren’t allowed out after dark.” Tsireya glared at her brother.
Tsireya had become very close to you, she was very skeptical of her brothers sudden change of heart. She wanted to believe that Ao’nung had become interested in you, but something just didn’t it feel right. She knew him too well.
“I appreciate the concern but we will be fine.” Ao’nung glared back.
During the rest of the breathing lesson, Neteyam kept glancing at you. You would smile at him occasionally when you noticed him looking. He would smile back but his eyes looked pained. You were a little confused. Neteyam had always been protective of you, did he care about you and Ao’nung going on a date? Back home with the Omatikcaya you had pinned over Neteyam.
But he was the future Olo’eyktan, you thought you would never be worthy of being his mate. Neteyam is kind, brave, and loyal, how could someone like him want you as mate. You were stubborn, impulsive and sometimes let your emotions get the best of you. You knew he cared about you, but you always assumed it was like a little sister. Even though you wished it would be more, you loved the way he would check on you, sneak off to fly your ikrans together, you would cherish the times when you would braid his hair and you would just talk. He centered you and calmed you.
When Neteyam told you he was leaving, you almost lost your mind. You begged to come with them. Your parents were sad of course but they knew the reason why you wanted to go. They didn’t want to separate you from your potential mate even though you were convinced it would never happen. You just wanted to be close to him, make sure he was okay, even if he found his mate you couldn’t live not knowing how he was and if he was safe.
“That is enough for today, Lo’ak and I are going to dive. Everyone is welcome to join.” Tsireya smiled and stood up.
“I’ll come, but I’m not staying close to you two.” Kiri dived into the water. You all laughed, everyone knew Kiri never stayed with the group when diving.
“I think I’ll just stay by the shore for today, but thank you for the invite.” You smiled at Tsireya
“I’ll join you.” Neteyam shot up and reached a hand down to help you up.
Ao’nung narrowed his eyes at Neteyam. He didn’t need him messing up his plans with Y/n. Rotxo patted Ao’nung’s back and they dived into water. That left just you and Neteyam on the rock.
“How are you Nete.” You placed a hand on his shoulder. You haven’t really spent too much one on one time lately.
He blushed at your hand on his shoulder and grabbed you at the wrist.
“I’m good, although we haven’t spent much time together so maybe not too good” he smiled shyly, he trying to flirt with you. He hoped he wasn’t being too obvious.
A warm smile graced your face and Neteyam blushed. You were so beautiful.
“I couldn't agree more.” you chuckled, this was new. Was he flirting with you?
“Would you like to swim for a little? Maybe sit on the sand?” Neteyam didn't want your time together to end. His eyes were hopefully, practically begging for you to say yes.
“Yes! Let's do it.” you dived into the water trying to hide your blush and grin. You missed this. You and Neteyam. You cherished being with him again, it felt like old times. When you hit the water, it was so refreshing.
You heard the crash of him entering the water and swam up to the surface. You looked around but he was no where to be found. Just as you prepared to dive under, two hands pulled your ankles down.
You let out a little yelp and we're sumegered under. You looked down at your attacker and there he was. Braids floating around him, grin on his face. He was so handsome. You pulled him back to the surface.
“Nete! You made me swallow water!” you splashed him and laughed.
“I'm sorry but I couldn't help myself” he dodged your splash attack.
You stopped splashing him and swam closer. You could see the water rolling down his forehead.
Neteyam stopped breathing, staring into your orange eyes. Your blue skin glistening. You spoke in a low voice that made him shiver even though the water was warm.
“Neteyam.”
You had said his full name. He was so focused on your mouth.
“Y/n” he took a deep breath, he hoped you couldn't see how flustered he was. He was mesmerized being this close to you.
“You better watch your back the next time were diving. I might just drown you.” and with that you jumped up and pushed his shoulders down.
He was so caught of guard and was plunged down. Not ready for your attack, you basically stunned him. Now he was the one swallowing water. When he reached the surface, you were still laughing. He started to laugh too, you got him good.
Your laughter started to die down as you remembered. You were going on date with Ao’nung tonight. It's not fair to Ao’nung to be giddy about another man, even if it was Neteyam.
As if Neteyam was reading your might, he started to stop laughing too. You were going on a date with another man tonight and there was nothing he could do.
“We should get going.” Neteyam spoke softy.
“Yes, we should” you looked at him, the look of longing on Neteyam’s face caught you off guard. You started to swim with his face imprinted in your mind. You started to think, maybe going this date with Ao’nung was wrong.
...
Tsireya, Lo’ak and Kiri had just arrived back from their deep diving. Walking along the path to go back to their huts.
“We will see you at dinner!” Kiri walked ahead of them.
“Yes!” Tsireya waved at her.
“Thank you for the lesson, see you later.” Lo’ak squeezed her hand and smiled. He was so sweet to her.
“Goodbye for now Lo’ak.” she blushed. Who knew a forest boy would make her heart skip.
When she arrived to her hut it was empty so she went looking for Ao’nung. He should've been back by now, it's almost dinner time.
She started to walk toward the beach and there they were. Ao’nung, Rotxo, and three other boys from the village. They were all talking loudly and she was catching some of their conversation as she walked toward them.
“She is totally fooled.” Rotxo laughs
“Oh I know, she is fully convinced I like her.” Tsireya couldn't believe what she was hearing. They hadn't seen her approaching yet.
“And tonight, I'm going to lead her on a little more. Who knows maybe she will kiss me and then after that. I'll break her heart.” all the boys laughed.
“She’s so stu-” Rotxo went silent, he spotted a very pissed looking Tsireya walking their way. He knew she had heard them.
“Oh no” one the boys said quietly.
“Ao’nung! What is going on” Tsireya almost never raised her voice.
Ao’nung snapped around, looking down at his sister. He shifted his weight uncomfortably trying to look anywhere but her. He started to walk toward the huts, everyone following.
“Hey! I'm talking to you!” she yelled
Tsireya ran after them and cut them off.
“Ao’nung.” he realized he wasn't getting out of this conversation.
“Uh, just talking” he looked at his sister.
“Talking? Talking about- what did you say? Leading Y/n on?” Tsireya was so disappointed. When did her brother become so cruel?
Neteyam was walking nearby looking for Lo’ak and Kiri but when he heard Tsireya yelling he followed the noise. He started to walk toward Tsireya, Ao’nung and his friends.
“We have a bet going on.” one of Ao’nung’s friend chuckled.
“A bet?” Tsireya was confused, a bet on what?
“A bet where I can make Y/n fall in love with me and when she does i’ll break her heart.” saying it aloud made Ao’nung a bit ashamed. Now that he thought of it, you weren't a bad person. The time he spent with you was actually enjoyable. He didn't have feelings for you but he didn't hate your company.
Neteyam saw red. It was as of he didn't have control of his body. The rage coursing through his veins and blood pumping so hard he could hear. He immediately punched Ao’nung in the face.
“Neteyam!” Tsireya screamed grabbing his arm and pulling him back. Ao’nung’s friends tried to advance but Tsireya shoved herself in front of Neteyam and bared her teeth. They immediately backed up.
You had heard Tsireya scream Neteyam’s name. You were frantic looking around for them. You were in the but with Kiri and Lo’ak. All three of your heads snapping up at the sound.
“What was that?” Kiri was just as frantic, she immediately dropped the shell she was holding and stood up.
“I don't know, but it sounded like it came from the beach; let's check it out.” Lo’ak pulled you both out of the hut and started sprinting to the beach. He was worried about Neteyam, but he knew that was Tsireya’s voice.
Ao’nung was wiping the blood from his mouth. He knew he deserved that.
“You should be ashamed brother.” Tsireya was furious, you were her friend, and she cared about you so much.
“Ashamed? I should skin you.” Neteyam hissed, “you don't deserve to breathe the same air as her.”
“You think I care about her or anything you say? Y/n is just a bet, you forest people don't belong here.” Ao’nung smirked, he was right about Neteyam having a crush on you.
“A bet? I'm a fucking bet?” your voice made everyone turn to look at you.
The three of you had just arrived at the beach but you heard Ao’nung’s words clear as day. You stepped forward, anger radiating off you. Lo’ak and Kiri we're glued to their spots in shock.
“Y/n, listen I-” you slapped him before he could finish his sentence.
Ao’nung’s eyes widened and he grabbed his cheek. He was suprised to see the anger on your face. And he sure as hell didn't expect you to hit him. Everyone gasped. Neteyam, Kiri and Lo’ak smirked.
“Is this why you've been so nice to me all of a sudden? Is this why you asked me out?” you questioned him, tone raising at every question.
“You made me believe you liked me for a bet?! You asked me out over a bet?!” Neteyam narrowed his eyes at your chest, you were breathing heavily.
Ao’nung looked down at the sand, in front everyone being yelled at. Even some people from the village has stopped to look.
“Look. At. Me.” your voice was dangerously low, he were even closer to him now. He looked up and you could visibly see him swallow.
“If you ever even think of talking to me again or even look at me for too long. I'll kill you.” your voice laced with venom. You shoved him and turned around toward the ilu’s.
Everyone watched as you left. Partly in shock and partly because they were scared to talk to you right now. Lo’ak snapped out of it and started toward Ao’nung.
“You son of-” Neteyam grabbed his brother.
“Y/n handled it, leave him. He's not worth it” Neteyam shot him a deadly glare and pulled his siblings away from the scene.
“I hope you're proud of yourselves.” Tsireya addressed her brother and the group of boys. Ao’nung had never felt so worthless.
...
Neteyam knew where to find you. When you weren't at dinner, he told his parents you weren't feeling well. They narrowed their eyes at him but believed their oldest son.
He approached your small frame on his ilu. You were curled up and sitting on the rock you all used for breathing exercises. He slipped off the ilu into the rock quietly.
Your chin was resting on your crossed forearms on top of your knees. Your hands rubbing your shoulders. He noticed the tears running down your cheeks. He felt a tear in his heart. It hurt him to see you cry.
“I'm so stupid, Nete.” your voice was quiet.
“Y/n” Neteyam sighed and sat down next to you. He couldn't help but stare at how beautiful you looked. Long eyelashes wet from crying, your face shining in the moonlight.
“Y/n, you're not stupid, Ao’nung is the stupid one. You just always see the good in people. Shame on him for taking advantage of that.” he stroked your hair.
You leaned into his touch. Neteyam. His words comforted you. Like always he made you calm. The water lapped at your toes. The glowing water. Neteyam by your side. It was perfect. You turned your head to look at him. He was breath taking.
“I think this was a sign from Ewya that I'm not meant to find love.” you chuckled trying to make light of the situation. You had tried to use Ao’nung as a distraction to get over Neteyam and look what happened. Ao’nung didn't even want her.
“Don’t say that.” Neteyam gently reached to hold your face in his large hands. “Y/n. Anyone would be lucky to have you as a mate. To get to love you for the rest of their lives.” he was so sincere. He felt like his heart was going to explode.
You placed one of your hands on his that held your face. Did this mean Neteyam wanted you? We're you misinterpreting what he was saying.
“Well, I can only wish someone as kind hearted and noble like you will love me.” You couldn’t believe you had said that. But at this point what did you have to lose.
Neteyam eyes widened a little. He stopped breathing. The words that came out of your mouth kept repeating. Someone like him? He knew he was being selfish. You were hurting and he was now going to confess? But he couldn’t wait to tell you any longer. Not after loving you all his life.
“Y/n, I see you. I have seen you since the moment you walked into my life. Nothing in all of Pandora would make me happier than getting to love and cherish you for the rest of my life.” His chest was rising and falling fast.
You smiled widely. You couldn't believe it. The Na’vi you had loved all your life loved you back. You almost tackled him right then and there but held yourself back. You mimicked him grabbed his face with your hands.
“Neteyam. I see you. I have loved you since we were kids. Nothing would make me happier than being your mate.” tears slid down your cheeks again, but this time they were of happiness.
He looked into your eyes and down at your mouth. Slowly closing the space between the two of you. Your eyes fluttered shut, when his lips touched yours it felt like a wave crashing against the rocks. You had waited for this moment for what felt like a lifetime.
When you pulled away Neteyam pulled you in again by your neck, not wanting the kiss to be over.
“I've waited too long to only kiss you once tonight.” he smiled against your mouth.
“More like 10 years.” you crashed your lips against his.
...
The two of you walked hand in hand back toward the hut. When you walked in everyone turned to look at the two of you.
“Well. It's about time.” Jake broke the silence.
“Congratulations.” Neytiri smiled and laughed the both of you.
Neteyam swung and an arm around your shoulder. You were truly a Sully now.
...

Part 10.
“When I first met your father, I was trying to kill him” his mother laughed nuzzling his father.
“It was love at first sight”
Everyone laughed and held each other close.
Neteyam was smiling. He loved his family so much. He felt weird though, like he was here with his family but somewhere else. He saw you approaching, Y/n, he always thought you were pretty.
“Hey! Why wasn’t I invited?” You whined, your parents right behind you wanting to congratulate the Sully’s on their newest edition. Tuktirey.
“She’s beautiful.” Your mother spoke.
Neteyam thought you were the beautiful one. But you were so annoying. You were always getting his siblings in trouble. Whenever he told you, Kiri, and Lo’ak not to run off, you would stick your tongue out at him and call him a fun killer.
There was one time though. You had been searching for Lo’ak and Kiri to play, but they were off with his parents. You walked into the hut and saw him there. He could see the disappointment on your face. Was he really that bad?
“H-hi,” he stuttered, anxiously
“Hello Neteyam.” You greeted him with a smile. His nine-year-old year heart felt like it was going to beat out of his chest with that smile.
“Is Lo’ak and Kiri around to play?” You shifted your weight from your left and right leg, a wave of nervousness came over you. He was staring at you so intently.
“No.” He frowned
“Oh okay let me kn-“ he cut you off, a rush of confidence surging.
“Why don’t we play together?” He spoke fast; he was hoping you would say yes. He felt like he could barely play anymore, constantly being whisked away with his parents to do Olo’eyktan training.
“Ah yeah. Okay” you weren’t sure if he would be any fun, but it was better than waiting around.
Neteyam’s heart soared. You wanted to play with him. You ran into the hut and grabbed his hand, sprinting off to the woods. He was so happy you were holding his hand that he didn’t care where you were going.
The two of you had a great afternoon playing on the trees and splashing around in the water near a waterfall. You decided to take a break and were sitting on a tree branch.
“Why don't you play with us more often?” you asked him. He actually wasn't too bad.
“Well, I have to learn to be the next Olo’eytkan, so I don't have time to play.” he looked down at the ground.
“Is it hard?” you tilted your head. He wouldn't meet your gaze.
“Uh yeah. A lot to remember. I just don't want disappoint my parents.” although he was young, he already felt like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders. You hesitantly placed a hand on his shoulder.
“Well you're always perfect Neteyam. So you don't need to worry about that. Even if you aren't, I think your mom and dad will still love you.” you tried to comfort him, saying the first thing that came to your head. He slowly looked over at you. You had no idea how much he needed to hear those words. Your eyes looked so pretty and he couldn't stop starting.
“Uh, Thanks.” he shrugged, breaking eye contact. He didn't want you to see how you made his head spin. As the eclipse started to near, he insisted the two of you to go back. He smiled the whole time.
When you walked into camp Lo’ak and Kiri we're back. He saw your eyes light up and followed your gaze. Lo’ak. He noticed you seemed to be attached to him like a magnet. Maybe one day you could look at him like that.
You turned around and studied him for a second. Today was actually very nice and you had a good time playing with him. Maybe he wasn't such a fun killer.
“This was fun; Bye Neteyam.” and you ran off. He was sad; your day together was over. His nine-year-old heart was broken while he stared at you and Lo’ak.
...
You and Tsireya screamed for help. It was dark now. Neteyam was losing a lot of blood. He was mumbling unconscious now.
“Let’s play together,” he mumbled.
Some Metkayina came out to help you. Tonowari one of them.
“Where is everyone else?” but when his eyes dropped to see Neteyam and all the blood. He sprung into action.
“Help me get the boy to the sky people!” he had never seen a wound like Neteyam’s.
“Keep pressure on his wound!” you ordered, and someone did. You ran behind them as they carried Neteyam to Norm and Max.
“Neteyam! What happened,” he asked you.
You started to cry again, the stress and the severity of the situation hits you again. Norm shook you.
“Y/n, I can't help him if you can't tell me what happened.”
“B-bullet wound.” you choked.
“Max! Bullet to the upper chest.” he examined Neteyam. “The bullet is inside. We need to preform surgery.”
“Surgery?” you questioned, you saw Max with a knife and he cut Neteyam. In that moment Neteyam woke up and started to yell.
“We need anesthesia!” Max called to Norm
“What are you doing!” you screamed. They were making it worse. They were hurting him. Norm grabbed you and pulled you outside.
“Y/n, this is what is going to save his life. Trust us. Stay out here” he ran back in.
You fell to the ground and sobbed. Your Neteyam. He was in pain. It was all your fault. if you hadn't left him, he would not have returned for you and gotten shot.
...
Your parents had just died. You didn't smile, laugh, or even want to eat. Everyone was worried. Neteyam would steal glances at you during dinner. Your meal in front of you hadn't even been touched. He desperately wanted you to be happy again. You couldn’t stare at your food anymore and excused yourself. Neteyam watched as you left. He was mad at Lo’ak; he had barely talked to you since your parents passed. Who was there to comfort you?
He stood up and followed you out. He quietly watched as you wandered into the woods and climbed up a tree. He didn’t notice it was the tree you had climbed together many years ago.
You jumped when you saw him. “Neteyam. Hi.”
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.” He felt shy. He hasn’t been alone with you for a while. Here and there you were alone in the hut together but wouldn’t really speak besides small talk. You were 14 now, each year you became more beautiful.
He sat down, he didn’t want to ask how you were. He knew you weren’t doing well. “What are you doing up here?” He gazed at you. You looked beautiful. He started to panic a-little when your eyes teared up.
“I come here to get away. Everyone in the clan looks at me and asks if I’m okay and I appreciate it. But I just want to forget. I want to pretend like it didn't happen.” You force the tears back. Refusing to cry. Like all those years ago, except this time it was Neteyam who placed a hand on your shoulder.
“Y/n, You’re one of the strongest people I know. Especially since you can put up with Lo’ak and Kiri.” You laugh at that. Neteyam’s eyes soften he hadn’t heard that beautiful laugh in weeks. “You are going to get though this. Maybe right now you’re not ready to face it, but one day you will. Take all the time you need.”
His smile was so soft, eyes staring straight into yours. When did Neteyam get so handsome? You thought to yourself. You took a deep breath. This was Neteyam not Lo’ak. Your heart belonged to Lo’ak. But you couldn’t help but feel your heart twitch. What he said to you was exactly what you needed to hear. For the first time since your parents died, you felt a little peace, maybe it was because Neteyam said what you needed to hear or because he was sitting right next to you.
“Thank you Neteyam.” You threaded your fingers between his. Neteyam stopped breathing. He hoped one day this would be a regular thing for the two of you. He didn’t know when he started to fall for you, was it six years ago? Today? All he knew was that his heart belonged to you and only you. You had been the only one he had ever noticed.
You both sat there for a while, hand in hand. Watching the forest. He made you laugh a couple more times and continued to talk about things. You asked him how Olo’eyktan training was going. You told him stories of you, Kiri and Lo’ak’s adventures. Some of them he didn’t like as you had put yourself in danger. You bumped his shoulder with your arm telling him to not be such a fun killer.
He grabbed your arm trapping it. “Someone has to make sure you’re safe” his eyes bore into yours. Always so intense. You blushed and pulled your arm out of his grip.
“You know I can protect myself” you crossed your arms playfully.
“Well, just know. If you ever need protecting. I’ll always be here” you didn’t realize it at the time but for Neteyam, it had a double meaning. Of course, he would always protect you. But even if you chose Lo’ak over him one day. He would always been there. Waiting for the day you noticed him.
You raised your head out of your arms when you heard movement in the hut.
“He’s stable. Still unconscious. We will wait to see if he wakes up.” Norm says quietly, him and max walk out. It had taken all night to preform the surgery. The sun started to rise. The Sully’s hadn’t come back yet either, and you were debating on going out to find them. But you couldn’t leave Neteyam. You looked up at the sky.
“Please Great mother. Don’t take them from me. Please, they are all I have left.” You cried.
Tsireya came up to you hearing your words.
“Y/n, no matter what. You will always have the Metkayina and me.” She hugged you tightly. “The great mother will never abandon you Y/n. I have hope they will be alright”
Through the tears your peered up at the horizon. Your prayers were then answered. You saw them. All of them. Tuk, Kiri, Lo’ak, Jake and Neytiri all on Payakan. They were alright. Your body relaxed a little.
“Go, make sure they are okay please. I’m going to stay with Neteyam.” You walked into the hut.
He was hooked up to some machines with a big bandage wrapped around him. You kneeled down next to him and took his hand.
“Neteyam, please come back to me.”
He was breathing very faintly. You could see his chest rise and fall.
“I need you. You understand me more than anyone. You snuck your way into my heart and created a permanent mark forever. You’re the most important person to me. You calm me, you make me feel safe, you’re my protector. If you're gone, who will protect me. You said you would always protect me.” tears fall onto him, and you push away some hair on his forehead. He saved your life today, he had done his job of protecting.
“Neteyam, please, baby, come back to me” you pressed your face into his hand.
You jumped back when you felt his finger twitch.
“Neteyam?!” your chest was rapidly falling up and down.
“Y-Yn?” he eyes were fluttering open. He started to sit up but instantly regretted it. Wincing in pain.
“No, no, lay down.” you helped guide him back down
“Are you okay? Our family? Is everyone okay,” he was panicking a little. The last thing he remembered was you telling him he was okay on the ilu with Tsireya.
“Yes, Neteyam. Everyone is safe.” more tears rushed down your cheeks. You were so happy he was okay.
“You scared the shit out of me! Never ever do that again.” a burst of anger came out. “I can't lose you”
He reached a hand up to cup your face and wipe away some tears.
“I could never leave you; there are still so many things I want to experience with you in this life.” he hated to make to you cry. He continued speaking, you listened holding onto his hand.
“But I would do it all again if it meant I could keep you safe. You almost died, Y/n. Right in front of me. I had never been more scared than at that moment. I thought I was going to lose you”
He was scared when he felt then pain of the bullet, but was comforted at the fact that you would be alright. That was all he cared about. You being safe.
He started to cry. “I'll always be here. I'll never leave your side. You own my heart, my body, and my soul Neteyam. I love you.” it was the first time you said I love you. His ears twitched.
“I love you too.” he moved his hand from your cheek to your neck and pulled you towards him. You placed a hand on each side of his face and brought your lips to his.
You kissed him, and you swear you saw stars. He kissed you deeper, his hand gripping your hair wanting you closer.
“W-we can't do this right now.” you pulled away breathlessly. “You're injured; you need rest.”
“As much as I hate to stop this right now, you are right.” he gave you one more kiss and let you go.
You turned your head slightly, hearing noise approaching the hut. It was your family. You stood up, and Tuk ran into your arms.
“How is he?” Jake looked from you to Neteyam and dropped to his knees. His son was okay. Neytiri dropped next to him.
“My son, you are alright.” she caressed his head.
Neteyam smiled, growing tired. “I'm glad you are all okay.”
Lo’ak and Kiri hugged you tightly. The three of you holding each other. Thanking Ewya that everyone had returned safely.
Neytiri kissed your head and Jake hugged.
“I-I’m sorry I didn't stay, but I couldn't leave him.”
They looked at you and passed a knowing look to each other. This confirmed their suspicions that you were in love with Neteyam.
“Y/n, we couldn't thank you enough for being there with him. We understand; Lo’ak and Kiri saved the day.” you turned to them surprised. They stood there with their arms crossed, proud looks on their faces
“The great mother was the real hero of the day though.” Kirk bent down and grabbed Neteyam’s hand. “Without her, you wouldn't be alive. She helped us in our darkest moment and helped bring light to the depths of the sea to help guide us out from the boat.”
“Wow.” that's all you could say. You would have to ask for the full story later. Right now, you were just happy to have your family back.
When you and Neteyam told Jake and Neytiri about the two of you. They were so happy. It was a few days after Neteyam was cleared to start moving around again, and you walked into the hut one morning holding hands, asking if they had a second to talk.
“I am in love with Y/n; I know we are young, but there is no force on Pandora that will keep me from her.” he spoke sincerely.
Jake and Neytiri smiled; they knew this would happen one day where you ended up with one of their boys.
Neytiri always thought it was going to be Lo’ak but when she saw how you looked at her son, she knew he was the one for you.
Jake was happy as well, you were a great pair and complimented each other perfectly. Neteyam would hold you back from your impulsiveness and recklessness; you would remind Neteyam to have fun and break the rules once in a while. A perfect balance.
“We are so happy for the two of you, just no children yet okay?” Jake smirked
The both of you frantically told them no. Although one day in the future, you both wanted to experience being parents together.
...
Kiri was so happy for you.
“We really are sisters now.” you hugged her.
“We were always sisters; now you are just stuck with one of my brothers forever.” you giggled at this and hugged her tighter; you loved Kiri so much.
“Have you two already kissed?” she started shooting multiple questions at you. “Did you already say I love you? Have you mated?! Are you pregnant.” you tackled her.
“Oh cut it out!” you both rolled around laughing.
...
It had been a couple of weeks since the battle. Neteyam was healing perfectly and would be able to swim and dive soon. It was early in the morning, you were practicing in the shallow water.
“Just take it slow.” you guided him through the water. He was trying to do it all on his own but it was still a lot for him.
“Let me go, I can do it. Please” his voice firm but gentle.
“Okay...” you knew he was going to sink and prepared to help him. Watching him swim to a deeper area.
Just as you predicted he couldn't keep himself afloat for long, and he started to lose strength. You helped pull him to the shallow end and he sat down.
“Ugh! This is going to take forever.” he huffed slapping the water with his arms, even though that hurt a little.
“Neteyam” you soothed him, “Norm told you had to build the muscle back up and strength slowly. It is going to take time.” you swung a leg over his waist. He placed his hands on your thighs, enjoying your new position on top of him.
“I will help you every step of the way.” you kissed the scar on the top of his chest. It reminds you to love him and appreciate him more every day. A permanent reminder of a time, you almost lost him forever.
“If we take breaks just like this, maybe it won't be so bad.” he watched the water drip down your chest. You tilted his chin back up to look into your eyes and blushed.
“Tsireya will be here soon.” you tried to stand up but he held you against him.
“Nete-” he cut you off, kissing you.
You started to make-out and he gripped your waist. Your hands felt his strong arms and deepened the kiss. Before it got more heated a voice made you break apart. It was Tsireya and Lo’ak they were walking down to you hand in hand.
“Cut it out before anyone see’s” Lo’ak rolled his eyes. He wasn't bothered by the two of you. If anything, he was happy. He was so in love with Tsireya and glad for his brother.
You laughed and helped pull Neteyam to his feet. He wrapped his arms around your waist, placing his head on your shoulder.
“Good morning Y/n and Neteyam” Tsireya polite as ever greeted you two. You couldn’t help but grin with happiness.
It was the end of the day, and training all day not only wiped Neteyam out but also you.
“I am not looking forward to having to do that all again tomorrow” he groaned and buried his head in your neck. He loved when you sat between his legs. You loved it, too, his body wrapped around you.
You couldn't believe how far the two of you had come. It had been months since you arrived at the Metkayina clan. Leaving the forest was hard and you missed it, you missed your parents and your old life. But you wouldn't trade it for what you found here and who you became: So much has changed. You had changed so much.
“It feels like a dream doesn't it?” he spoke softly, it was as if he read your mind
“Yes. Yes, it does.”
“ For so long I’ve loved you Y/n. To think you are finally mine is a dream. When I was unconscious, I remembered that day we had together when we were little. We played together and you told that I was always perfect and my parents would still love me, even if I wasn't” you turned to look at him, his expression loving and his eyes looked straight into yours like always. Intensely.
“You have no idea how much I needed to hear that and how significant that was, we were so young yet you claimed my heart already. I might have started to fall in love that day. I also remembered when your parents died, and we climbed up the same tree we had before and talked. Again” he looked down at you, his hand pushing away a loose strand of hair in your face.
“I remember that day. You told me that it was okay if I didn't grieve in that moment, you didn't ask me if I was okay or how I was doing. You have no idea how much that meant to me. That was the first time I started to see you.” you gripped each side of his face and planted a firm but loving kiss on his lips.
His arms glided up and down your body; they finally rested on your waist and cheek.
“I see and love you Y/n” you melted at the way he looked at you.
“I see and love you too, Neteyam.” he could listen to you say that all day, all your life.
“Y/n, I promise to love you, protect you and support you everyday of our lives until the day Ewya decides its time for us to leave this world. I thank her everyday that she brought me you. That we left our home and we gained another in each other. Everyday I fall more in love with you” he pressed his head against your forehead
You smiled tenderly at him.
“Neteyam, I can't imagine my life without you. I can't wait to spend the rest of our lives together and face any challenges with you by my side.” you press against him.
“And I can't wait to show you how much I love you, each and everyday”
Neteyam plants a soft kiss on your forehead, then moves to cheek, neck and finally arrives at your lips. You feel your muscles turn into liquid. You love the way he kisses you. Marking you as his, telling you how much he loves you in between breaths.
“We’re going to have to stop before I end up laying you down on this sand.” He breaks the kiss and touches your swollen lips with his finger. You take his hand and kiss the top of his fingers, looking straight at him.
Neteyam watched in awe, how did he get so lucky. He takes a deep breath, breaks eye contact, and pulls his hand out of your grasp. If you kept doing that you really would end up down on the sand.
You giggled knowing what you had just done to him.
“You are evil” he groaned and squeezes you
“Let's watch the sunset and then head to dinner.” you his pat his face and turn around getting comfy again.
“Whatever you want to do. You know I'll follow you.” he kissed your ear.
You sighed happily; you knew that no matter what happened. You would be okay. Because you had Neteyam by your side.
...
The End! I can't believe I finished! I'm so happy and hope you all enjoyed this story! I have proof read it yet, but I will later. I just wanted to share it now. Thank you so much for all the support on this series! If anyone knows how to link parts and make a master list please help me!

Part 9
You felt useless; you pulled at the ties on your wrists. Almost as meaningless as Spider probably felt when he was instantly grabbed before he could help up and escorted away.
“It's not going to work,” Lo’ak whispered.
“What are we supposed to do sit here and wait?” You growled at him
“Yes. We wait for our moment” taking took a deep breath you listened to him and tried to relax
Quarich came over and ripped the comm from Lo’ak’s neck. He hissed.
“Come on out Jake.” after a couple minutes of silence he took out his gun. Aiming it at Lo’ak’s head. You all starting to fight.
“Lo’ak!” Tsireya yelled
“Don't hurt him!” you tried to kick him but one of the avatars kicks you and you yelp.
“Hey!” Lo’ak yells
“What's it going to be Jake, I will not hesitate to shoot your son. Don't test me” Quarich says with venom in his tone. You didn’t doubt that he would do it.
You and Tsireya glance at each other, worried.
You start to see movement and it’s Jake moving forward.
“I got an easy shot.” someone says
“No. What wait for him to get on the boat.” Quarich whispered but not low enough for us not to catch it.
You all hiss. This wasn't happening. You couldn't lose another father.
It was quiet for a second everything seemed to be going in slow motion. You look up from the motion coming from the water and Payakan is in the air.
“Payakan!” Tuk yells
“Holy shit,” you whisper under your breath and brace yourself. The boat bounces and you all fly up in air, when you drop chaos erupts.
Guns are going off, yelling, and you hear the Metkayina advancing, battle cries ripping through the air. Lo’ak helps Payakan and kicks out the knee of a the machine that was shooting at Payakan, he slips off the boat dodging a shot from the boat in the water.
Suddenly fire erupts from one of the engines and the boat surges forward. You all scream. You’re going to crash.
“Y/n!” Tuk screams
“Hang on!” You want to hold her but can’t the stupid ties holding you back.
Neteyam watching the boat advance. He knew this was his chance to rescue you and he wasn’t going to miss it. You and his family were his number one priority.
He had just gotten you and wasn’t going to lose you. Memories of your smile came into mind. He loved you so much.
“Brace yourself!” Lo’ak yelled. You were airborne and slammed down on the deck. You winced in pain. That one really hurt.
You're all still cuffed to the railing. Frantically pulling. People start to disperse attending to their battle stations ready to fight. The fire was spreading and from the looks of you were on top on rocks. This boat was going to sink. You needed a way out
You hear noise and turn to your left and there he is. Neteyam. He's okay. You sigh in relieve. He cuts Tsireya’s and Tuk's ties.
“Get her out of here” he says to Tsireya and they run off.
“Hurry up bro!” Lo’ak yells.
“Whose the mighty warrior” Neteyam grins
He cuts your ties, and Lo’ak’s. He’s so relieved you were okay. He grabs your head and presses his forehead against yours. You grip his neck, happy to feel his skin against yours.
“I was so worried. I didn’t know where you went.” You smiled at him.
“Thank Ewya you're okay.” Tears brimming in his eyes.
“Come on! We have to get Spider!” Lo’ak his hand wraps around your arm.
“He's right.” you say and start to move.
“No! No.” Neteyam pulls you by your waist and turns you to him.
“I'm not letting you do this Y/n. I can't lose you” holding the back of your neck.
You place your hands on his chest. “Neteyam, there is no time to argue. Get Tsireya and Tuk to safety. I'll be okay. I promise” you kiss his cheek and sprint off with Lo’ak.
Neteyam was distraught. He couldn't lose you. He was torn. He yelled out in frustration. Help his sister and Tsireya. Or protect the love of his life. He walked to the end of the boat, about to jump off.
...
You and Lo’ak crawled quietly on the railing above. Careful to not make a sound. There were people running around everywhere but not paying attention. You had finally spotted Spider. You looked at Lo’ak and nodded. Now was the time to make a move.
You both leaped off and attacked the humans. Spider helped punching a guy straight in the face. Even full-grown humans were tiny compared to you guys. It was weird.
“Guys!” Spider yelled happily.
“Bro, so happy to see you” they hugged and you smiled watching. You guys were being stupid, celebrating before even escaping. But you guys were naive. Thinking you were already in the clear. You heard someone yell.
“Y/n!”
Neteyam couldn't leave you. He turned around and ran towards the area you and Lo’ak had ran off to. It took him some time to find you guys but when he had. His blood ran cold. A man was pointing his gun right at you. Without even thinking or hesitation Neteyam ran and tackled you.
Your body hit the ground and you laid there for second. You looked up, Neteyam was frantically searching your body.
“You okay?” He was breathing hard
You weren't hit. Niether was he. He helped lift you up and took cover. He pushed you against the wall and caging your body in with his.
“What were you thinking!” you yelled at him gripping his shoulders and slapping his arm. “You could've died!”
“I can't think of a better way to die than protecting you.” his voice was shakey. Realizing the danger you had just been in. The danger he was in.
“Bro we gotta go!” Spider yelled.
Lo’ak had grabbed a gun, but Neteyam pulled it out of his hands.
“Go! Now!” he ordered. He was the oldest it was his job to make sure you guys got away safe.
“No! Not without you.” you yelled over the the noise. You weren’t leaving him, you couldn’t.
“Y/n, please! I promise. I’ll be right behind you!”
You shook your head “no.” You stood your ground
“Baby please. Please” he begged.
You touched his face and jumped in the water with Lo’ak and Spider. You swam, checking behind you until you saw Neteyam hit the water. But something wasn't right.
Then you saw it, the blood and him holding his the top of his chest. You swam to him holding him up. Not Neteyam. Please great mother. You couldn’t lose you. You just got him, it couldn’t end like this.
“Woohoo! That was insane cuz.” Lo’ak and Spider were celebrating. Unaware of the bullet wound.
“I'm shot you, Skxwang.” Neteyam choked out.
“Help me!” You screamed, he was too heavy for you to carry on your own. But you would drown if it meant keeping him alive.
“Oh no Neteyam!” Tsireya had arrived on her ilu.
You pulled Neteyam to Lo’ak helping him up. You couldn't believe it. You we're in shock. You didn't even panic. Just focused on getting him somewhere safe.
Please great mother please. You begged. This wasn't happening.
“Tuk and Kiri! They are captured!”
And for the first time. Lo’ak says, “we can't go back.”
The ilu took off. You and Tsireya hung on.
Jake’s face crumbled when he saw Neteyam.
“Watch his head!” Jake yelled
He laid him down. He was losing a lot of blood. You started to cry and held his hand.
Jake checked his back.
“The bullet didn't go all the way through. That's a good sign.”
You didn't feel any relief from that. He was bleeding so much. You knew he was in pain. His face was pale.
For Neteyam, everything was in and out. But he could feel you holding his hand. He squeezed it.
“Lo’ak put pressure on the wound.” Jake ordered
Neytiri had arrived and you moved out of the way giving her space and time with her son.
“No, no, no Neteyam!” she screamed.
Tsireya hugged you. You couldn’t stop crying. He is shot because he was protecting you. He put your safety above his. You don’t know if you could forgive yourself.
You saw Jake’s ears flicker. Someone was talking on the comm. You saw him look back to the boat.
“Where are your sisters” his voice was deadly. You dropped your head. Kiri and Tuk were captured.
“They are on the ship.” Tsireya says.
Jake shook his head frustration radiating off him.
“You guys get Neteyam back to camp. Keep pressure on the wound.” Jake’s expression was unreadable. Just completed focused.
“Dad, no. I want to help” Lo’ak started to walk towards him. You took his spot and placed pressure on Neteyam’s chest.
“I’ll still here don’t worry” you spoke to him but you doubt he could hear you.
“You've done enough.” Your eyes widen when you heard Jake’s words.
Lo’ak dropped to his knees and Tsireya went to comfort him.
Jake left and you turned to Lo’ak.
“He didn't mean it. Come on we have to go.”
You stared down at Neteyam, your tears haven’t stopped and dripped on his arms.
“You're going to be okay. Please Neteyam.”
You didn’t know but he could hear you. He was scared but was comforted knowing if he was to die you would be with him.
“I need you please. Please don't leave me.” you cried.
He desperately wanted to answer, to soothe your pain and comfort you but the words wouldn’t come out.
Lo’ak and Tsireya we're still sitting there.
“Let's go!” you screamed “we don’t have time.”
“Stay with them” Lo’ak ran a hand down Tsireya’s face and dived toward the sinking ship.
“No!” She reached for him but he was too quick.
“Come on!” You weren't going to leave Neteyam. You hoped Lo’ak would be okay. Tsireya helped you maneuver Neteyam off the rocks and onto the ilu. He was heavy but adrenaline was kicking in. You were not going to lose him.
She took off, Neteyam sandwiched between you two, keeping pressure on his chest. You kissed his shoulder.
“You're going to be okay.”

Part 8
You and Neteyam sat on the sandbar for a little while. Just enjoying the view. Neteyam’s strong arms around you, sitting between his legs.
“We have to go” he nuzzled his head against your cheek.
“I know. Just five more minutes.” you begged.
“Y/n-” He started to protest
“Please” you looked back at him
You looked right into his eyes; he couldn't say no to you. It was impossible.
“Fine, only because you are cute.”
...
You both walked with your fingers intertwined back to the hut. You even passed a couple of people, and he still didn't drop your hand. It made you glow with happiness. You had made it right in time before anyone would start to worry about where the two of you were.
When Lo’ak watched the two of you walk in, he was jealous. He couldn't help but want to rip your hands apart. He needed to talk to you. Without Neteyam noticing he walked by you and spoke.
“Outside.”
You were confused. Then remembered he had walked to talk earlier. You slipped out quietly. Neteyam didn't notice at first. He was turned around from what he was doing about to say goodnight but saw the two of you were gone.
He sat down, frustrated. This is what he was scared of. You had just confessed your feeling for each other. But if Lo’ak wanted to you, would you take him back? He hated to be so insecure, but this was years Lo’ak had over him.
...
“So you and Neteyam, its official?” Lo’ak was always straight to point.
“Lo’ak..” he turned around hand on his head. He couldn't look at you. When he turned around again it hurt you. He looked so upset.
“Y/n, I love you!” he yelled; you sighed. He didn't understand yet.
“No you don't Lo’ak. In way yes but not how I love Neteyam.”
“What? You don't know that.”
“Yes. I do.” you crossed your arms
“Oh yeah? Explain.” he mirrored you
“Lo’ak, I have loved you since we were little. As soon as we got here, your attention shifted to Tsireya. That hurt me so deeply. And then Neteyam and I started to get closer andwe shared things I had never even been able to tell you about. Everything was so easy and natural with him. I didn't even know I was falling in love. With you I always felt nervous like I couldn't talk to you, I never wanted to say the wrong thing. That’s not to say you're not my best friend or our times together, we're valuable and close. But they Weren't intimate. We never shared our deep thoughts or feelings.”
He crossed his arms and his face changed. Like he was realizing something. You put a hand on his shoulder.
“Lo’ak. I see you. I love you and I always will. But what I feel for you is completely different to how I feel for Neteyam. I didn't understand that at first. Now I do”
“But Y/n-” you cut him off
“Lo’ak, think about Tsireya. Ever since we got here. You have been a magnet to her. Think about it, you don't feel for me, what you feel for her.”
He took a deep breath. Tears brimming in his eyes.
“You're right. I just couldn't admit it to myself”
The truth is Lo’ak was scared for what he felt for Tsireya. He knew she had the power to shatter him. With you it was easy. With Tsireya it was completely different and his connection with Tsireya was undeniable.
“I'll always love you too Y/n”
He pulled you into a hug that was suffocating.
“If Neteyam hurts you i’ll kill him.” you laughed
“You know he would do it himself first.”
Neteyam couldn't sit Inside the hut anymore. You were his and he was staking his claim. For once in his life he was going to be selfish. He stood up marching to find you.
When he saw the two of you pulling out of a hug smiling, he grabbed your hand and pulled you behind him.
“Lo’ak, you are my brother. But you cannot be with Y/n. I love her and I will fight for her.”
Your heart swelled with happiness. You hugged him from behind.
“Neteyam...” you pressed your cheek against his back and let him go. He turned to look at you, confused. He thought you would be mad for acting possessive.
“Bro, you can chill. We just talked and I understand now. Its okay. I hope the two of you are very happy.” Lo’ak hugged his brother.
Neteyam hugged his brother back tighter. Happy that he wouldn't lose his brother or fight with him.
...
The following day was like walking on a cloud. You were so happy Neteyam was yours, and you were his. It was still low-key since you it had only been official since yesterday.
Neteyam was so happy. The girl he loved forever was finally his.
Then tragedy struck. Ronal’s Tulkun and Calf was murdered by the sky people.
Everyone was crowded together.
“We are at war with the sky people!”
“We cannot attack, they will destroy you” Jake was pleading.
You reached for Neteyam but he stepped forward.
“Listen to him, please!”
Jake grabbed the tracker in Neteyam’s hand
“Tell the tulkun if one of these hits them, they are marked for death. This isn't about running away. It’s about saving their lives.”
Tonowari and Ronal exchanged glances.
“Tell the tulkun. Go now.” she said
You watched Lo’ak walk away. All the kids traded glances. We knew where he was going.
...
Neteyam got to him first. Trying to convince him to stay. You didn't here what Lo’ak said but whatever it was it hurt him.
Lo’ak jumped in the water.
“Come on! He's going after Payakan.”
We all justed in the water our ilu’s meeting us. Kiri and Tuk had joined us as well.
We finally reached Payakan but he was acting weird.
“What's wrong!” Lo’ak yelled. Payakan turned and we all saw it.
“Shit!” He yelled. Payakan had been marked. “Come on help me”
We all jumped onto Payakan. Pulling hard.
“They are coming!” Tsireya yelled. You turned, the boat was far but barreling towards you guys.
“Call this in!” Neteyam yelled still pulling. Lo’ak listened to his brother.
“They are getting closer!” you yelled. This wasn't going go work.
“Grab the rope!” you yelled, Neteyam grabbed it, threw it to you, and jumped on the ilu.
“Now!” you all yelled.
The tracked finally came out with all your efforts.
“It's out!” Tuk yelled. She really shouldn't be here right now.
“Let's go!” Ao’nung yelled
Neteyam grabbed the tracker.
“I'll lead them away.” this scared you. What if he got hurt, but there was no time to argue. He took off.
You felt charges explode in the water and we're scared. Please be okay.
You hopped on your ilu with everyone else and hid in the tall seaweed. All you thought of we're Neteyam. But then you became more afraid. Submarines have entered the water. They were coming for you guys.
You quickly scattered. All of you dodging and hiding from the machines. You notice Tuk fall off Kiri’s ilu and go after her. You grab her and jump off the ilu to an air pocket.
She started to whine. You soothed her, patting her back.
“It's okay; we're okay.” your voice shook. You were frightened. You both screamed when Lo’ak and Tsireya surfaced next you.
“Have you seen Neteyam!” you asked frantic.
“No” Lo’ak shook his head.
“They are coming!” Tsireya was right, the lights were coming toward you.
You all tried to swim away, but the net had already grabbed you, Tsireya, and Tuk.
The net was snatched from the water. Lo’ak tried cutting it, but he was too late. You all made a run for it as the net hit the ground, but rough arms grabbed you all. You fought and kicked, but they were too strong. Before you knew it, you were all cuffed to the front of the boat. You could see Jake and the Metkayinan in front yards away. You looked to your right and left. Where was Neteyam?
“Be strong” you heard Lo’ak to Tuk. He was right.
Neteyam couldn't believe his eyes. The love of his life and his family were cuffed to the boat. He was terrified, what if they hurt you. He was also angry with himself, how could he let this happen. He was supposed to be your protected. It didn't matter. He knew he was going to get you back. Whatever it takes.
...
A short chapter but not flex on you guys but I'm on vacation so I was busy all day. But you are all so supportive and amazing I wanted do a chapter. The story will be ending soon but I will start doing the request I've gotten after this is done. Again, thank you all!

Part 7
Neteyam held your hand as you walked onto the sandbar. After the fight with Lo’ak, you both took off on your ilu’s to the sandbar. You didn't talk the entire time, but that moment of physical touch was enough for you.
He stood in front of you, holding your hands.
“Y/n, I feel like something is going on between us.”
“I agree, why have you been ignoring me?”
Neteyam was embarrassed to respond. What if you said you had chosen Lo’ak? How could he deal with the heartbreak? He didn't want to confess yet; he felt it was too early.
“Because, I thought you felt uncomfortable with me ” he lied.
“Neteyam, why would you think that you skxwang.” you let go of his hands; seriously, this is what the the talk was going to be about. You thought maybe you two were finally going to confront your feelings.
Neteyam did not take you letting go of his hands well. The conversation was taking a turn. Should he just be honest?
“I- I do not know. It was a very intimate moment; everything happened so fast. I don't want to rush or ruin anything between us.”
Between us. Your ears flicked at that.
“Oh yeah?” you took a step closer to him, and looked from his eyes to his mouth, “what is going on between us?”
Neteyam’s entire body turned hot; you were the most gorgeous girl he'd ever seen. You being this close to him did something to him.
“Ah nothing, nothing. You know, I just do not want to ruin our friendship.” he smiled; he was so flustered he couldn't think.
Your demeanor dropped, friendship?, a terrible thought formed. What if you were just misinterpreting all of this? What if you and Neteyam we're just getting closer but just not romantically.
“Oh no, yes of course. Our friendship.” you couldn't hide the hurt and disappointment, you took a big step back.
Neteyam couldn't believe what he had just said. What was he doing? Instead of trying to slow things down, he was hitting the brakes. Did this mean you still wanted him?
“Wait, no, Y/n. That's not-” before he could finish, a big horn sounded.
Suddenly waves of noise began and the waves began huge and choppy. You would have thought you were under attack.
“Neteyam.” you pointed at the massive figures in the water.
The Tulkun had returned.
“Come on!” you yelled at him. You desperately needed this distraction and wanted to evade the conversation that was about to take place. You didn't have to continue hearing how you misinterpreted you and Neteyam’s time together.
“Y/n, wait we aren't done” you had already dove in the water.
He loved that you were stubborn but right now not so much. He knew you heard him. How could he let himself mess that conversation up, being so close to you made him panic. I’m so whipped, he thought. He couldn't think straight. This conversation was not over. He was confessing to you tonight. No more waiting.
...
Watching everyone so excited and happy for the tulkun helped fix your aching heart. You were following Tuk and Kiri around watching everyone interact with their spirit brother and sisters in the water. You noticed Jake and Neytiri. He held her by the thigh on the same ilu. Goals. You thought.
From the way your conversation with Neteyamn was going and how Lo’ak was looking at Tsireya twirl. You weren't going to be doing that with either of his sons. Honestly, you still loved Lo’ak, but Neteyam was the one you needed. Now you are stuck pinning for another Sully boy. Again. Just when you thought you made progress in your goal for you and Kiri to be sister in laws. You chuckled to yourself.
You all came up for air and your heart softened when you saw Neteyam with the happiest smile on his face. He’s so cute.
Kiri wasn't sure what had happened since she had her episode, but it was flipped now. You and Lo’ak were on good terms, and you, Neteyam, were not good.
...
Neteyam was suffering yet again. It was his fault yet again. He had confused you during your conversation, and now you couldn't stand being close to him. On the swim back to the ilu stable, you chatted briefly. Just things like how cool that was and that one day you want a tulkun sister or brother.
He was going to steal you for a conversation when Kiri grabbed you and Tsireya.
“We desperately need girl time. Let's go”
“What about me!” Tuk squealed.
“I’m sorry, Tuk, but I think Kiri means big girls only” you fluffed her hair.
“Fine.” she walked away sad. You looked at Kiri, hoping she would let Tuk come, but she shook her head.
...
The three of you were sitting on the breathing training rock.
“Kiri, I'm happy to spend time together but what is about?” Tsireya asked her blue eyes shinning
“The only thing that ever seems to cause trouble lately. My brothers” she rolled her eyes
“Y/n! Did you and Neteyam talk? Why was he ignoring you.” Tsireya smiled
You laid flat on the rock, “yes, and it turns out it was because he was scared of ruining our friendship.”
Kiri almost flew back into the water. Friendship? Neteyam did not have any friendly intentions when it came to you. Only romantic. He has been in love with you forever. That skxwang. How was he messing this up?
“And Lo’ak?” you tighten up, eyes shifting to Tsireya.
“What of Lo’ak?” Tsireya eyed you
“Oh.” Kiri’s eyes widened.
“Listen Tsireya..” you began to say
“What- what is going on with you and Lo’ak” Tsireya thought just maybe there was something between the two of you.
“Tsireya. I had been in love with Lo’ak all my life. I still love him. It's not in the way I love Neteyam, though. I know that now. That's all.”
“Has he expressed feelings for you?” she was the most serious she had looked since you met her. She suspected he did when he told her the fight was about you.
“That is something you and Lo’ak need to discuss” you waited for her response
“Thank you for being honest with me” she hugged you. She really was the sweetest ever. “Do you know what their fight was about?”
“No,” you were taken aback by that question. You were so caught up in the friendship convo you forgot to ask what the fight was about.
“You should ask him”
Neteyam was standing at the shore and you all turned to look at him.
“Dinner!”
...
Neteyam had sat right next to you at dinner tonight. Lo’ak was chewing slowly, watching the two of you interact. He wanted to talk to you after dinner.
“Are we going to finish our conversation.” he whispered next to you. Okay we are doing this now.
“I don't know, are you going to tell me what you and your brother were fighting about?” you bit off a piece of fish.
“No, no, yet.” he replied
“Okay, so no, we will not finish our conversation.” you smiled sarcastically at him.
His jaw almost dropped he couldn't decide between whether what you did was cute and squeeze you or strangle you for being so stubborn.
“Y/n not yet.” he pleaded to you
“No conversation then” you stared back at him, this time you would not melt, you stood your ground.
Lo’ak wanted to know what the two of you were whispering about. Tsireya touched his arm.
“I will not be a second choice Lo’ak. I ask you for the sake of my heart. Figure it out” she stood up and walked away. He was stunned.
“Fine!” Neteyam folded “after dinner”
You nodded, scared for what was going to happen next between the two of you.
...
“Y/n. Lo’ak approached you. He knew who he wanted and needed to talk to you immediately.
“She is busy Lo’ak” Neteyam came up behind you the brothers haven't spoken since the fight.
“calm down; it will only be a second.” you turned to look at Neteyam. He looked away. You knew if you went with Lo’ak, he would respect your decision. But Lo’ak wasn't the boy who held your heart anymore. It was Neteyam. You needed answers once and for all.
“I'm sorry Lo’ak but it must wait.”
Neteyam’s heart soared. That was a good sign. For Lo’ak, he knew what it meant. He had lost you.
...
You and Neteyam returned to your spot. The sandbar. He grabbed your hand, tracing your palm as you sat.
“Neteyam I am so confused” you sighed
“I know. But I can't tell you what the fight was about not yet.” you stood up so fed up.
“No. I agreed to this under that one condition”
“Y/n you need to understand everything first.”
“How! I don't get it, we have these fantastic three weeks together. The other night at the sandbar, something shifted. I know it did. I know you feel it too. Just tell me what is going on! ” you yelled
“It's not that simple” he groaned and grabbed his head.
“It is! Do you want me or not? Stop playing with my heart because I can't take this anymore. What was the fight about!” you teared up throat scratching. You just wanted your Neteyam back.
“It was about you!” he raised his voice. He was breathing hard. “I'm sorry” he grabbed your face.
“Y/n, I’ve loved you since you were 14. I've loved your stubbornness, determination, kindness, strength, all the things that make you. You. For so long I've tried to suppress it. But I can't anymore you've torn your way into my heart, and everyday I spend with you it bleeds more knowing I haven't told you that it belongs to you. I knew it was only Lo’ak you saw, but Y/n, I have always seen you. I see you.” he was tearing up too. He had finally said it, and he was bracing for impact.
“I’ve wanted you to see me since before we left. It was like wishing for rain as I stood in the desert. Wishing for you to love me. I prayed to Ewya for just a drop, and maybe you would see me.”
You started to cry, he was worried but kept his hands craddling your face. You kneeled down and grabbed his wrists. He followed you to the ground.
“Neteyam. My drop has turned into an ocean of love for you. I see you, Neteyam. I do.” he let a out a shaky breath. He couldn't believe what he was hearing.
“You’re right, back home it was always Lo’ak, but when we came here, everything changed. You snuck up on my heart, and claimed it as yours. I never saw you coming. You are loyal, dependable, strong, honest, caring, and most importantly, kind. You make me feel calm and safe, you understand me better than anyone.“
He smiled. “I’ve been yours since you were 14; nothing would make me happier than you being mine.” He pressed his forehead against yours.
You couldn’t believe it. Neteyam was yours and you were his. You always thought it would be Lo’ak, but Neteyam made you feel things Lo’ak never did. Neteyam made your heart relax. He calmed you and steadied you in ways you couldn’t and needed. He sat and listened to you and provided insight. You were the fire; he sometimes needed, and he was the water to put you out when needed.
“I'm yours Neteyam.”
...
About time! I decided their confession would be based around the song “a drop in the ocean” I felt like it fit Neteyam so well pinning you wishing a chance and drop or a change in the weather. So that is also our title! Yay! I hope you enjoyed and don’t think its rushed. I might revise it tomorrow when I am not on 3 hours of sleep. I just wanted to get a chapter out for you all.
UPDATE. Keep rereading this and I think it's trash. After I rewrite tmr i’ll delete this. I'm just exhausted from traveling. Sorry to disappoint you guys. Neteyam and Y/n deserve better. PART 8 is up

Part 6
The ride to the spirit tree felt like an eternity for Neteyam. Being in your presence was agonizing. He just wanted to touch you, tell you that he was the one you should be with, not Lo’ak. But he couldn't; he is selfless. If you and Lo’ak were happy, he couldn't take that away.
You, on the other hand, wanted to grab his tail and pull him off his ilu. Why wasn't he talking to you? You thought you had shared a special moment and that you meant something more to each other.
Tsireya started to surface, and you all followed. Tuk turned around and waved at you. She looked so cute, clinging to Kiri’s back.
When you wiped the water from your eyes, you were left breathless. It was beautiful—the structures and rocks.
“Eclipse is the best time to come here.” Tsireya turned around, flashing us a smile.
You hopped of your ilu and started to swim to where ever Tsireya was leading you. The area was beautiful but where was the tree?
“Okay this might be a silly question but where is the tree?”
Kiri rolled her eyes “Y/n.” she pointed down at the huge thing glowing underwater.
“Thank you so much for answering my question Kiri” you stuck your tongue out at her.
Everyone else laughed.
Neteyam wanted to interact with you so badly, but he held himself back. When Rotxo started to swim toward you, he wanted to dunk him in the water. How many Metkayina boys would he have to fight to show that you were not available? Rotxo was there when the fight broke out.
“Y/n” Rotxo swam to you, “um. Does Kiri like anyone?” he said shyly
You furrowed your brows. Did Rotxo like Kiri?
“As more than a friend? I don't think so.” you placed a hand on his shoulder.
Neteyam was in shock; you were touching Rotxo. He was ready to let himself drown. Rotxo probably noticed Neteyam wasn't talking to you and was making a move. Why was he being so dumb?
“Everyone dive, when you connect the spirit tree will provide you with more oxygen.” Tsireya dived down.
The spirit tree was beautiful; the animals swam around it. It was so bright. You looked to Kiri, and she was compelled.
You swam down to her while she connected her tsaheylu, and we're about to join your tsaheylu. When you reached her, you noticed Kiri started twitching a little. Fear and panic hit it when she started convulsing.
“Ki-” you started to scream but water got in your mouth. You searched for help and Neteyam, Tsireya and Rotxo were swimming toward you. You broke the bond and started to pull Kiri up. Neteyam took her from you and you grabbed Tuk.
When you surfaced it was chaos.
“Kiri!” Tuk yelled
“Is she breathing? Is she breathing?”
Tsireya called the ilu.
“We have to get her to shore!”
Neteyam hauled Kiri onto his lap on top of the ilu, “she had a seizure.” he began to perform mouth to mouth.
You grabbed Tuk and started to swim behind Neteyam.
“Is Kiri going to be okay?” she wrapped her arms around you.
“Yes, of course, Tuk.” you pray to Ewya she will be.
...
You paced back and forth outside the hut; Jake called Norm, and they arrived right before the sun rose. Kiri was still unconscious.
Neteyam watched you pace. He knew you were probably freaking out. He was torn, should he go comfort you?
You looked up when you heard Neytiri telling the science guys to leave. Jake came up to you and hugged you, “baby girl she is going to be okay.” you squeezed him back and he walked away.
Neteyam couldn’t take it anymore. He walked over to you.
“Y/n” Neteyam was right in front of you.
“Neteyam.” you were mad at him; he knows how triggering this is for you and barely even looked your way walking out of the hut earlier when we were told to leave.
“She is strong, she will be alright.” he placed a hand on your crossed arms.
“Yeah.” You dropped your arms to your sides.
Neteyam was hurt; the fact that you didn't even want him to touch you hurt more.
“Y/n can we-”
“She’s awake! Kiri is awake!”
You both looked at each other and ran into the hut.
You brought a hand to your mouth. Kiri was sobbing. Neytiri and Tuk are comforting her. You started to cry with relief. That was terrifying.
Neteyam reached up to touch you but pulled his hand down. Lo’ak popped up behind you, breathless.
“Kiri? What happened?” he looked to you and Neteyam.
“She's okay; she had a seizure underwater.”
Lo’ak nodded and pulled you into a hug. Neteyam shifted uncomfortably, that should be him comforting you.
...
Tsireya noticed you and Neteyam were not talking. She was confused; she thought the two of you were very close. She decided to ask you while the two of you were practicing breathing exercises.
“You can stop me but are you and Neteyam okay?”
The question caught you off guard. You opened one of your eyes.
“Uh can you repeat that?”
“I know we're not very close but I noticed you and Neteyam haven't spoken much lately.”
You looked at her, she had on the most innocent expression.
“If I'm honest, I don't really know.” you shrugged
“What do you mean?”
You looked up at the sky, “I mean that he was one that stopped talking to me. I don't know what's wrong with him or what I did”
“That’s awful. You must talk to him!”
“I will, it's just the whole thing with Kiri happened and I just don't want to deal with that right now”
“Yes, of course. Do you have feelings for him?” she tilted her head at you.
“Yes. I do. He doesn't know, though.”
“I will not speak a word, do not worry” she straightened up again, “let us continue.”
Neteyam and Lo’ak were walking to the shore. They were late for their breathing lessons with you and Tsireya.
Lo’ak grabbed Neteyam’s arm before they got into the water.
“I need to know.”
Neteyam turned to face him.
“Know what?”
“Y/n. You. What's going on between the two of you?”
“Look, that's not your business. Let's go; we are late.” he tried to keep walking, but Lo’ak pulled him back.
“It is my business! If you are in love with her that is my business. Because I love her too.”
Neteyam was not prepared for this right now. The stress of what happened with Kiri, you and him not talking, he didn't need this right now.
“I love her. Now, what's going on with you and Tsireya?”
“Oh, come on, bro,” he turned away for a second
“You can not have them both, Lo’ak. From the moment we arrived here, Tsireya was all you cared about. I will not let you treat Y/n as a second choice” he didn't want to raise his voice.
“A second choice? No, Neteyam. You're the second choice. Y/n never even paid attention to you until now. Remember that.”
Neteyam shook his head. How could Lo’ak say that to him? He had to keep his cool. Lo’ak is his little brother.
“Well, this second choice might have already stolen your girl.”
Lo’ak punched him in the face.
You and Tsireya heard yelling and when you both turned Neteyam was on the ground.
“Neteyam!” you yelled diving into the water, Tsireya following.
When you both reached the shore, Neteyam had already stood up and was wiping his lip. The same side that was healing was ripped open again.
“What is going on?!” you grabbed Neteyam and touched the blood.
“I'm okay” he held your wrist. Happy you checked in with him. He didn't even care that his brother had punched him.
Lo’ak walked away, “hey! We're not done with this!” you yelled and started to follow him but Neteyam held your wrist.
“Stay. Please.” his eyes were begging, and you melted, anger disappearing.
“Okay. Tsireya can you check on Lo’ak please?” you didn't even turn to look at her. Still staring into Neteyam’s eyes.
When you heard her walk away, you spoke again.
“Neteyam.”
“I know, we need to talk.”
...
I really like this chapter and I think I might post another later tonight to continue. Y/n and Neteyam need to talk yk! I’m not sure if this is a little out of character of them but we love some drama.

Part 5
You and Neteyam had just arrived back at camp. All that was going through your mind was Lo’ak. What had happened? Why were they looking for him?
“He is going to be fine Y/n” Neteyam tried to grab your arm but you wiggled out of it.
“Neteyam, it's Lo’ak.” your eyes were still puffy from all the crying, and you refused to let more tears come out. He's going to be okay.
“Exactly, he is a skxwang but whatever trouble he got himself into, he will find a way of out it”
Metkayina we're riding in the water, calling Lo’ak’s name. You started running to where all the people were gathered.
Neteyam was worried too, but his heart ached. The way you reacted to Lo’ak being in danger made him sad. He was glad you cared for him deeply, but would you react the same way if it was him?
When you reached your parents, you could see Lo’ak being brought in by one of the warriors. You let out a sharp breath realizing that he looked fine, just some scratchess.
“Come here; let me get a look at you” Jake jumped down to inspect him.
“I pray for the strength to not pluck the eyes of my youngest son” Neytiri hissed.
Tonowari stepped up, “no, the blame is not his” you looked to see him push Ao’nung to kneel. If Ao’nung was responsible for this, you were going to kill him.
“No, the blame is all mine. I convinced him to take me out of the reef” Lo’ak spoke up.
What? Outside the reef. Why weren't you Invited? What an adventure! Then you remembered you were supposed to talk with Lo’ak, but you ignored him. You brought a hand to your mouth; what if he hadn't been rescued? You would have never seen him again and lived with the guilt.
...
Kiri was patching up Lo’ak, you, and Neteyam watching.
“So are you going to tell us what happened?” Kiri questioned.
“No, not tonight, please.” she dropped the subject, “ so Neteyam and Y/n, how was your evening?” Lo’ak’s ears twitched.
“ it was good.” you feel a bit uncomfortable talking about this in front of Lo’ak.
“ yes, good indeed.” Neteyam, understood why you did not want to go into details. It was a very emotional night for the both of you. Not only that but Lo’ak, Neteyam knew he loved you, and he wasn't ready to tell Lo’ak that he was also in love with you.
Lo’ak looked at Y/n, Kiri told him how worried you were. It made him happy, it meant to still cared about him.
“Kiri, Neteyam. Can I have a moment alone with Y/n?” you glanced at Lo’ak, well that was bold.
“Yes, of course, brother,” Kiri said, standing up and pulled Neteyam out with her. He was worried, but he respected his brothers wishes and above all he respected you. If you loved Lo’ak, he would never be angry. He just wanted you happy.
“How are you.” you sat closer to him, you desperately wanted to touch him, but you were reluctant. You didn't know where the two of you stood anymore.
“I would be better if you would tell me what happened between us.” he was straight to the point.
“Lo’ak.” you look up at the ceiling. “I don't know what you want me to say. You've barely even looked at me since we got here”
“Y/n, I see you.” he placed a hand on the back of your neck, your eyebrows shot up. You had been waiting for this moment your entire life. You blushed.
“Lo’ak, I see you.” he smiled. You were happy but not as much as you had imagined.
“Then, why have you been ignoring me.” you pulled away from him, anger bubbling in your stomach.
“Lo’ak, you know why.”
“Tsireya.” he looked away.
“I'm not dumb Lo’ak, I see the way she looks at you and the way you look at her.”
“Oh yeah? And what about Neteyam?” he clipped
Yes. Neteyam. You don't know when it happened, when did he sneak into your heart? Maybe it was the way your heart beats and muscles relax when he is around you. The way he looks at you when you talk as if you were the most important person in the world. His smile, his eyes, the way he gently touches you. And you can't forget the night the two of you just had; it will be imprinted in your mind forever. You had feelings for Neteyam.
“Yes Neteyam. We have been spending a lot of time together.” it was the first time you had admitted it to yourself. You weren’t going to tell Lo’ak when you hadn’t even said it to Neteyam yet.
“What is he to you?” Lo’ak was frustrated.
“Lo’ak it’s not any of your business. I’m not interrogating you on Tsireya.” You stood up.
“It is my business, we just confessed to each other Y/n! I need to know!” He stood up too voice raising a bit.
“Then tell me about Tsireya. Look me in the eye and tell me you feel nothing for her.” You we’re breathing hard. You knew the answer but you needed to hear him say it.
He was still for a moment. Before he went to see Kiri, he and Tsireya talked about what happened outside the reef. He told her things he hadn’t even told Y/n, about how he feels his dad doesn't understand him, that he's a disappointment to the family.
“I have feelings for Tsireya.” he looked you in the eye. You felt a tug at your heart. It hurt, but for some reason, it didn't break you like you thought it would.
“All my life it had always been you, Lo’ak. Always.” you shook your head
“But things are different now, huh.”
“Yes. Yes they are” you both looked at each other sad. He pulled you into a hug. You stood there holding each other.
Although this felt like the end, Lo’ak wasn't going to just give up on you. He knew there was still something between the two of you. He just needed to figure out if what he had with Tsireya was stronger.
You squeezed him tightly. This was your Lo’ak, one of your partners in crime. But did he truly know you inside and out? Did you know him deeply? You had a choice to make Lo’ak or Neteyam? You were torn.
Neteyam and Kiri decided to sneak a look at the two of you. Neteyam’s heart dropped when he saw Lo’ak embracing you. It felt like a kick in the gut, and he was nauseous. Kiri rubbed his back. she knew her brother was hurting. Maybe what the two of you had built wasn't as strong as your bond with Lo’ak. He decided in that moment, he would stay out of it.
That night he didn't even look your way before bed. You stayed up, hoping maybe he would tap you, and you would have a late-night talk. But when you glanced at him, he turned his back to you.
...
That following day you could not find Neteyam anywhere. It was like he was hiding from you. You swam with Kiri and Tuk, even spent some time with Jake. You walked back to the hut hoping Neteyam was there. Nope. Neytiri was.
“Hello, my child.” she smiled
“Hello” you sat down.
“Help me with this,” she was making food.
“Okay.” you kneeled quietly, helping her, folding little squares with the leaves.
Neytiri knew something was wrong, from the way your ears tipped back and tail twitched.
“What is wrong”
“What? No, nothing” was it that obvious?
“Please do not lie to me.” you shifted backwards to sit and stretched your arms behind you.
“Neytiri, how did you know Jake was the one?”
She laughed; you knew she had tried to kill him when they first met.
“Well, it all comes down to how the man makes you feel, Y/n. Your mother once told me that your father made her feel at ease. She could rely on him; he was solid. He made her feel like the only woman in the clan; she loved him so much.” your heart stopped. You knew at that moment who you wanted, who you needed, who was the man that made you feel at ease.
Your eyes teared up, and you launched yourself into Neytiri’s arms.
“Thank you.” you laid your head on her shoulder, “I miss her so much, but I am so thankful I have you.”
Neytiri smiled. “Always”
...
You finally found Neteyam but he wasn't alone. Rotxo, Tsireya, Tuk, and Kiri, we're with him.
“Y/n! Hello join us!” Tsireya took your hand
“Sure, what are you guys planning.” you looked at Neteyam over her shoulder but he wouldn't meet your gaze. Huh.
“We are going to go to the spirit tree today!” Tuk grabbed your other hand.
“Let's do it.” you grinned down at her.
...
You were all on your ilu’s swimming to the tree. Whenever you tried to ride next to Neteyam, he would flash you a small smile and ride ahead of you. Kiri narrowed her she's at this. Great. More drama. She thought to herself.
All you could think about was why he was upset with you. Why was he ignoring you? Was he embarrassed about what happened yesterday?
All you knew was that you were going to talk to Neteyam. Whether he liked it or not.
...
That's all for today! I am going on vacation tomorrow, so I will definitely write more when I'm at the airport. I hope you enjoyed this chapter. I thought we needed some drama between the reader and neteyam. Hehe.

A Drop in the Ocean pt. 4
Avatar : the way of water
Neteyam x reader, Lo’ak x reader
Note:Part 4! I can not thank you guys enough, I read the comments, and I just start smiling so much. Thank you. Since you are so invested so I'll write an extra chapter for today! This also like an extra long chapter. Not to hype myself up but this is an emotional chapter and I'm really proud of it. But I'm also scared I'll never be able to top it. I plan on updating at least once a day. I want to continue this story until I reach the end of the movie with my retelling. Then I’ll do more requests/one-shots. Again. Thank you so much for the support.

Part 4
Neteyam helped pull you out of the water. You shook out your hair and looked behind you. Everyone was heading your way to get something to eat.
“Y/n” you turned to look at Neteyam.
“What's up” he looked so handsome, skin and hair still wet from the swim back.
“Tonight after dinner, you wanna go for a swim?” Neteyam was different, He was showing you a different side of him. Or maybe this was how he had always been, but you never saw since he was always Lo’ak’s older brother, who was a buzz kill to you.
“Of course,” you smiled, heart beating faster. You then noticed that the two of you were still holding hands. You looked down at your hands clasped together, you looked up back at Neteyam and smiled. He smiled back, slowly letting go of your hand. You turned around when you heard splashing and everyone's voices.
Neteyam kept staring at you as you turned. He eyes traveled down your figure. Your beautiful hair, your strong legs and the warmth of your hand and how cold it felt when he let go. He always had feelings for you, but every day, they grew.
Lo’ak couldn't keep his eyes off you. The whole time swimming back, he watched Neteyam help pull you out of the water and smile as the two of you talked back at the ilu stable. He couldn't make out what he said to you, but he knew he wasn't going to like it when Neteyam blushed and smiled wider.
Kiri watched Lo’ak react to you and Neteyam. Maybe if he hadn't been so focused on Tsireya, he would have noticed earlier that Neteyam was winning your affection without even trying. Ao’nung whispered to Kiri.
“Are they together or?” gesturing to you and Neteyam.
“None of your business, skxwang.” Kiri hissed; she saw the move he had pulled on you during breathing training. She didn't like it one bit; if her sister was going to end up with anyone, it better be with one of her brothers.
Lo’ak didn't fail to miss that moments before they arrived at the stable; Neteyam had let go of your hand.
“Kiri, would you like to join us for a snack?” you asked. After all, you have been spending so much time with Neteyam you haven't seen her as much besides late talks near the hut and training with the Metkayina kids.
“How could I refuse.” She smiled at you.
“We will join you!” Tsireya said excitedly. Although you were nice to her. She could feel that you kept her at a distance, she wanted to be closer with you.
“Yes, of course” you smiled politely, although you didn’t hate her, you knew if she came, Lo’ak would follow.
“Let’s go!” You playfully pushed Neteyam forward; he moved to the side.
“After you” you walked by him and smiled wider when you felt his hand skim your back while you passed.
Lo’ak didn't miss that subtle touch; to everyone else, it could have been just polite. But Lo’ak knew his brother, him constantly checking on you, never leaving your side; now that he thought of it, he even had caught Neteyam glancing at you during dinner, even before coming to the Metkayina Clan. How did he not notice before? Neteyam was in love with you.
...
Lo’ak was in a bad mood for the rest of the afternoon. Neteyam was in love with the girl he had loved since he was little. How could he do this to him? Neteyam already had his parent's favor, the people's favor, and now Y/n’s? Tsireya kept trying to talk to him during the little snack break you all had, but he barely spoke. All he could look at or think about was you. You talked to Kiri and Neteyam the most. You and Neteyam would occasionally grab each others arms while talking and it was driving Lo’ak crazy. You even paid more attention Rotxo and Ao’nung than him. When did he start to lose you? Or had he already lost you?
“I say we call it a day, and you are all free to roam the clan,” Tsireya announced; in reality, she just wanted some alone time with Lo’ak. The parents suddenly appeared with Tuk, happy to see all the children getting along.
“Hey! Why wasn't I invited?” she whined, leaping onto your lap, you playfully squeezed your arms around her, and she giggled in delight.
Lo’ak and Neteyam loved how you interacted with Tuk. Tsireya and Ao’nung even smiled at the the two of you.
“Tsireya, Neteyam, come with us, please,” Tonowari announced.
Neteyam placed a hand on your head as he stood up.
“I'll see you later; stay out of trouble, please.” teasing you.
“For you? I'll make sure trouble is my mission.” you and Kirk laughed.
“Y/n.” Jake gave you a stern look, and Neytiri looked at you fondly.
“I'm kidding; I'm kidding” you raised your hands up
“With your luck my child, trouble will find you anyway.” Neytiri patted the heads of her three girls.
Tsireya squeezed Lo’ak’s hand as he left, and he was sad. Him and Tsireya usually played a game of trying to find a rock she threw in the water. But now he had an opportunity to get you alone without Neteyam.
Lo’ak wasn't the only one who realized this. Neteyam did too, and he couldn't deny that the thought of the two of you alone together made him uneasy. He felt as if you had finally started to see him differently, but you had loved Lo’ak since you we're kids. Would you just forget about him?
You noticed Lo’ak looking at you and quickly picked up Tuk and grabbed Kiri’s hand.
“We need some girl time, let's go”
“Uh, can I come?” Lo’ak smiled sheepishly
“You’re not a girl, Lo’ak” Tuk stuck her tongue out at him.
“She has a point,” you shrugged
“Y/n, we need to talk.” Lo’ak’s face was serious, “please?”
For a second you considered it, after all it was Lo’ak and you had to look away before those eyes used the power they had over you.
“Maybe later.” you walked away.
“Ouch,” you heard Rotxo and Ao’nung laugh.
At that moment, Lo’ak wanted to kick himself. How did he let you two get to this point?
...
You and Kiri we sitting in the water watching Tuk play with an ilu.
“So... Are you finally going to tell me how you feel about my brothers?” she tilted her head at you.
You took a deep breath. “Agh, you really want to know?” you tilted your head the same way as her.
“Y/n of course I do, nothing is better than watching those two Skxangs bend over backwards for you and know all the details.” She smirked
“It’s complicated. Lo’ak and I have the most history. You know that, you’ve been with us the entire time. I’ve loved him since we were little. It was always him. But now..” you trailed off
“But now, Mr. Daddy’s perfect solider has caught your eye” you pushed Kiri’s arm, “oh, stop it, you know he hates it when Lo’ak says that”
“I say you just drop those two skxwangs and find a new potential mate.” She crosses her arms
“What? With a human-like Spider?” As soon as you said it you wished you could take it back.
“Kiri, I’m sorry-“
“No, no, it’s okay.” Her gaze and playfulness disappeared.
“No, Kiri. I know you, you miss him a lot, and it has been troubling you. Whenever you're sad, please talk to me about it.” you hugged her.
“It's okay; I actually had a talk with dad about him and something else.” your forehead scrunched up.
“What about?”
“I feel her, Y/n.” her expression was so serious.
“Feel who?”
“Ewya, I feel everywhere, like a word about to be spoken, her heart beat and it is mighty.” she smiled
“Thats, that's amazing Kiri. What a beautiful gift.” she pulled you in for a tighter hug. Tuk then joined in getting you all wet.
“Oh you're going to pay for this!” you and Kiri both grabbed an arm and threw her into the water.
...
You were playing with Tuk in the water and you laughed at Kiri. She was lying on her stomach, head in the water, she was staring at the sand. Although it may seem crazy to some people, you believed her. She has always had a special connection to pandora, the animals, everything. You had even seen it yourself. Everything was drawn to her and came naturally to Kiri.
“What is she doing?” your head snapped to the distant voices.
It was Ao’nung, Rotxo and two other boys you had briefly seen before. You narrowed your eyes and told Tuk to go clean up before dinner.
“But I was just in the water? I am not dirty,” Tuk whined. “Tuk, please.” She skipped off to the hut after that.
As you were walking over to Kiri and the boys you over heard some of the conversation.
“No, no I am. Not a freak”
Oh hell no.
“What did just say?”
Ao’nung and the boys turned to look at you.
“I asked her if she is some kind of freak?” they all smiled and laughed. This only made you more upset. Kiri already had to deal with people calling her a demon for extra her fingers.
Kiri started to walk away from them. You pushed Ao’nung and slapped the hand away that was reaching toward Kiri.
“And are you some kind of jerk? Oh wait, I know the answer. Yes.” you got straight in his face. Ao’nung even kind of liked you being this close to him, but he wished it wasn't because he was a being a jerk.
Lo’ak was watching from a couple of feet away; he was walking around after lying in the hut for a while. He didn't expect to stumble across Ao’nung and his friends harassing you and Kiri. He started walking over, and from not too far, he could see Neteyam making his way over as well.
“I’m only saying what everyone else is thinking,” Ao’nung replied
“Yea? and when I knock you out, I’ll only be doing what everyone else is thinking.” you stood your ground.
“Leave them alone, fish lips.” Lo’ak pushed Ao’nung away from you.
You were annoyed. You can handle yourself; you especially don't need Lo’ak stepping in.
“I got this.” you hissed at Lo’ak, moving him aside.
“Yea..she’s got this Lo’ak.” Ao’nung grabbed your tail. He playfully pulled it, but he didn't know he had just started a war.
From the corner of your eye, you could see Neteyam walk up.
“Hands off, leave them alone” he hissed and shoved Ao’nung pointing a finger at him. He was fed up with Ao’nung, thinking he could just touch you whenever he wanted.
One of Ao’nung’s friends tried to speak up, but he shut him down. Raising his hands in the air backing up.
“From now I need to respect my sisters,” he turned to Ao’nung, voice lowering an octave, “and you keep your hands off, Y/n.” that made your ears perk up, and a warm burning feeling arose in your stomach.
It had quite the opposite effect on Lo’ak and Ao’nung. They didn't like that part at all. Lo’ak because he realized Neteyam was staking his claim on you and Ao’nung because he understood he had no chance with you.
“Let's go.” Kiri pulled you and Neteyam’s arms away from the skxwangs. Lo’ak turned to follow, but when he heard the word freak again, he snapped.
Lo’ak turned around to show Ao’nung something with his hand. Little did Ao’nung know, it was going to hurt. A lot.
“It's called a punch, bitch”
You gasped and started laughing. The fight broke out, just as you were going to join. Neteyam pulled you back scratching the back of his neck.
“I told you what would happen to Ao’nung the next time he disrespected you.”
With that, Neteyam went to join the fight, and you couldn't lie. Both Sully boys looked hot, especially since the fight is about defending you and Kiri. When you noticed Lo’ak was outnumbered, you joined in.
“Y/n!” Kiri was concerned but started to laugh.
“Ow, my tail!”
“Ow, my ear!”
Sullys stick together.
...
You followed Neteyam and Lo’ak into your hut. Saying Jake was pissed was an understatement.
“What was the one thing I asked!” in that moment you wanted the earth to swallow you whole.
“To stay out of trouble.” you all mumbled
“It was my fault sir.” Neteyam stepped up.
“You have to stop taking the heat for these two knuckleheads” Jake took a deep breath.
“Lo’ak, go apologize” that made you speak up
“But Jake! He-”
“Y/n,” you closed your mouth.
“They called Kiri a freak dad, and Ao’nung kept touching Y/n.” that made Jake look at you, raising an eyebrow.
“Honestly wasn't a big deal; Neteyam and Lo’ak made it very clear what would happen the next time he tried again. Am I dismissed?”
“Dismissed.”
You walked out of the hut.
Lo’ak followed after you going to apologize to Ao’nung. He will talk to you later.
Before Neteyam walked out, Jake spoke.
“So how do the other guys look?”
Neteyam smiled, “worse.”
“Good.”
He grinned “a lot worse.” he honestly, he meant to pull back some of his punches, but when it came to Ao’nung, there was no stopping him. Not only disrespecting you twice. But he also was trying to flirt with you; he had to send an unmistakable message. You were not available.
...
You had just finished getting patched up by Kiri when Neteyam walked into the hut.
“Hi,” you smiled, but honestly, it did kinda hurt to smile.
“Hello, is she all set Kiri?” he had a cut on his lip; other than that, he looked like he escaped the fight with only a scratch.
“She is all yours, brother.” she winked at you and your mouth almost dropped open. No way she just did that.
“I pray to Ewya she is.” the way he said it made you shiver, he lowered his hand to help you stand up. Always a gentleman. You blushed and took his hand.
...
“So where are we going?” you had both walked to the ilu stable.
“It's not far, and don’t worry, it's safe” Neteyam would never take you anywhere that wasn't safe. Especially since the eclipse was nearing, it would be dark soon, but that was the plan.
You smiled, “ah, thank you so much, my perfect soldier,” you teased
He shot you a death glare, “really.” only a little bit amused; he liked that you said, my perfect soldier. Because it was true, he had belonged to you for a very long time.
You dived into the water, calling your ilu. Neteyam couldn't help but stare. You pulled your hair out of your face and grabbed your Tsaheylu while on top of your ilu. To say you looked stunning was an understatement; he watched the water run down your spine, wishing it was his hands. He immediately jumped in the water with that thought, but the water couldn't cool off the heat he felt. He climbed on his ilu and told you to follow him.
The eclipse was beautiful, of course; in the forest, it was beautiful, but in the water, it took your breath away. Neteyam felt the same way, but he was looking at you.
The way the coral glowed, how calm the water was, It was amazing. You dipped your hand in the water; when did the ocean steal your heart?
“We’re here.” you look up and see a sandbar.
“It's fantastic!” you try to fake excitement, and you hear him start to laugh.
“Y/n don't lie to me”
“No! No, I love it; thank you so much for showing me.” you nodded frantically, you followed his lead, getting off your ilu and swimming towards the sandbar.
“As much I enjoy you trying to spare my feelings, this isn't what I wanted to show you.”
“I-I’m not lying; I'm serious this is-” you gasped. On the other side of the sandbar was the most beautiful view. You could faintly see the three brothers' rocks, the water dancing outside the reef furiously, and the ilu and other creatures swimming just a little before the reef exit. It was quite a sight.
“Okay, I was absolutely lying before but this? Wow,” you sat down on the sand, water ticking your thighs lightly. Neteyam sat down too.
“I am glad you like it, but seriously next time. Please don’t lie if you don't like something.” he let out a small laugh.
“Wouldn’t you rather I lie than hurt your feelings?” you tilt your head.
“All I ever want is the truth, Y/n, especially from you.” Ewya. There it was again, the intense stare he gave you all the time. It didn't make you uncomfortable but, it was a lot for your heart to handle. You just wanted to squeeze him.
“When I first found this place, it was the second night here. I snuck out, got on the ilu, and swam.”
“Hmm, very not Mr. Daddy’s perfect soldier of you.” you raised your eyebrows. When his smile dropped felt bad that you used the term again.
“I'm sorry, I shouldn't-” you placed your hands on his shoulder and arm.
“No, it's okay. It's just.” he took a deep breath. “That's the thing, here. I don't have to be him. I'm not the future Olo’eyktan anymore. In the forest, that's all I did. I love my parents, but I feel like I never got to truly bond with my siblings as much when I got older. Like the bond, you have with them. I always watched from afar.” you still had your hands on him; you were so close to his face you could see his eyelashes, count them even. With the way your body was angled towards him, your knee was pressing against his thigh
“I sat here, and I cried. I cried for the life I had lost, all my life of having the pressure of being the next Olo’eyktan, the pressure of being perfect all the time; I thought my entire life was already planned right in front of me; is that all I was? Daddy’s perfect soldier? Who am I now that it's gone, what am I worth?” a tear spilled down his cheek. And then I remembered what dad always says.” he turned to look at you.
“One life ends-”
You finish his sentence.
“Another begins.”
You latched onto him, and his eyes widened. He felt your legs on each side of him, straddling him. But it wasn't sexual, just comforting. His long arms wrapped themselves around your waist, and he buried his face in your hair and neck. You two stayed in that position for a couple minutes when you felt a ball start to form at your throat.
“I'm sorry you even had to bare that burden on your own Neteyam. I wish you could've told me earlier how you felt.”
His gaze softened “When? I could never get you alone. You with Lo’ak and Kiri. Me, stuck doing future Olo’eyktan things.” His head shook a little.
“Well, now there is no excuse. I'm right here. You aren't just a perfect soldier, Neteyam. You're so much more, even before we came here. Never think that's the only thing you're worth”.
Neteyam is kind; he's considerate, loyal, funny confident, well spoken, sensitive, thoughtful older brother. He really is a natural leader, but he wasn't just born to be a leader. He is just Neteyam.
“I-I need..I-l” you started to choke up, tears filling your eyes
“Y/n, what's wrong? Speak to me” he pulled back from you to see your face.
“My parents.” the tears wouldn't stop, “for the longest time, I’ve shoved away any thought of them. Pretending it didn't exist. But I can't help but feel like, in a way; I’ve abandoned them. I don't even live where they lay anymore.” you clenched your teeth, sucking in a breath between them, and let out a sob; you looked away.
“Y/n, listen to me; look at me” he grabbed your face with his hands, cradling it. “You never abandoned them, never.”
“Neteyam, I don't even speak about them anymore. At least not out loud.” his thumbs brushed away the tears.
“Everyone deals with death differently. It has been almost two years since they died. Maybe back then, you were not ready to face it at 14. But now you are 16, nearly 17. How could you expect yourself ever to be ready to grieve with something like that?”
You grabbed his wrists as he continued speaking. “you did not abandon them; they would be so proud to see the woman you have become. You have grown so much and started a new life. You could have chosen to stay in the forest, forget about us. Instead, you came here with us, bearing the danger and consequences with us. Like a true family member. How could they possibly be mad at you for holding on to the new family you were given.”
“Neteyam-” the sobs wouldn't stop, this was only the second time you had ever cried about their deaths.
“With the help from your parents and Ewya, they gave you this family. This fortress.”
For the first time since their death, you felt like you could genuinely take a breath of fresh air.
“You’re right. Thank you.” you pressed your forehead against his, you both fell silent. Just listening to the sounds of the ocean.
In that moment all he wanted to do was say the words. Confess that he had loved you all his life but, he just couldn't. The emotions were too raw. It would be too much. Instead took his hands from your face and placed them on your shoulders.
“Let's go for a swim like I said come on.” he let you get off him and helped pull you to your feet. Neteyam swore he had never been calmer than at this moment. You felt the same way. With Neteyam, you had always felt calm, yes, the occasional butterflies would appear along with your heart beating faster and the burning sensations, but you were always relaxed.
You swam with Neteyam, playfully tacking him; he would pick you up and throw you around, gently, of course. You swam underwater, going over and under each other. You walked hand and hand back onto the sand bar. You were both so happy.
But happiness can only last for so long.
You both looked back to the clan, hearing yelling and commotion. It had gotten dark, yes, but super late? No. Were they looking for you two? No. Neteyam had told Kiri where you would be.
Then you heard it.
“Lo’ak! Where are you!” “Lo’ak!”
They were all searching for Lo’ak.
...
OMG THAT WAS SO LONG. I hope you all read it completely because it literally took me forever. I hope you understood “ilu stable”, idk what else to call that area where the ilu’s and saddles are. Anyway. Just know the next chapter I post today will be much shorter. I hope you all enjoyed!
