We Are Supers
161 posts
The Storm rolls over the small town of Westbrooke, interrupting a Spring Sunday night with hail as big as basketballs and thick, black clouds that block out the sun. Electricity fizzles throughout the air, and residents out under the midnight moon are knocked off of their feet, unconscious. The next day it’s as if nothing has happened, but dozens of citizens now share a sense of uneasiness and a lightning shaped scar. Talk with us at: #CHALLENGERSTALK

Important Update:
Since we feel like biographies have been posted long enough for applications to be in, after this weekend we are going to assess the roleplay and make a decision. If we feel like we don’t have enough characters to open the RP, we will be re-evaluating the roleplay and condensing our options. Thank you to everyone who has submitted applications, and we hope to see more applications or reserves by Monday! If you are interested in applying but don’t feel like you’ll be able to get your application in by Sunday night, please send us a message on when we should expect it, so we can make an informed decision. -The Mod Team

ideas for lightning scar locations?
The lightning scar can literally be anywhere! The scar itself is not really important for plot purposes (although the more visible it in in basic clothing, the more likely chars are to figure out the connection, eventually) but this question was designated to help y’all get into your character’s head and feel them out. There are no wrong answers here. I tried to type up a list but the answer is very simple: as long as the scar is somewhere on your character’s body, that’s all that matters. There are no right or wrong answers on where that should be!

Roleplay Update!
Admin Liss and I are so excited to see the talk tag moving and applications coming in. We’re so close to setting a closing day for applications, but we want to wait until the weekend is over to gauge exactly where we are. We would love to give y’all a number or specific date, but at this point it’s a little too early to make that judgement call.
Please do not hesitate to send in any questions about the roleplay or characters. We look forward to hearing from y’all and can’t wait to get this show on the road.

Do you guys have most wanted characters?
Sorry for this poor format. Al and I are both currently at work. All of our bios are so important and we really do want to see everyone filled. But if you are asking for our personal preferences they are:
Liss: Yun Hui, Elizabeth, Roni, Jake, Robert, and the twins Madison and Morgan.
Al: Sydney, Elizabeth, the twins, Brandon, Yun Hui and Jasmine

Roleplay Update!
We are so super excited to say all of our biographies are officially posted! There are currently twenty-eight open citizens of Westbrooke, each with their own unique backstory, super power, and connections around town. We hope that y’all enjoy and love them as much as we do! If you have any questions about any of the characters (including prompt help for para samples, help with the application, or anything else) please let us know! In the meantime, we will be working on finishing up the rest of our pages, including the nn\ew member’s guide, and getting the roleplay ready for launch. A couple of things to consider!
ϟ We’ve seen that the talk tag isn’t working for everyone. Please don’t let that deter you. Once applicants are accepted, we’ll be reblogging your wonderful graphics and inspo posts to the inspo blog! ϟ We are now taking applications and reserves. Please don’t be shy about sending them in! Reserves are a great way to get us pumped up your application, and will help us set a more definitive timeline. ϟ Once we get enough applications to open the roleplay, we’ll set an official first acceptance and opening date.
Thank you so much to everyone who has show interest, applied, used the talk tag, or followed the page so far. We’re so excited to get the ball rolling, so send in those apps

ABOUT:
ϟ Name: Robert “Rob” Jeffery Michaels ϟ Age: Forty-five [45] ϟ Faceclaim: Jeffery Dean Morgan, Robert Downey Jr, Hugh Jackman ϟ Gender & Pronouns: Cisgender Male; He/Him ϟ Profession: General Manager at Bandstand ϟ Status: OPEN ϟ Prompts & Asks & Inspo
PERSONALITY:
ϟ Positive: patriotic, trustworthy, hard-working, friendly, organized. ϟ Negative: regretful, bitter, disconnected, straight-laced, old school.
BIOGRAPHY:
Rob grew up in a small town to a very loving and doting family. His father managed a local three acre farm and his mother was in charge of the local agriculture union. They lived a happy, simple life with Rob as their only child. Their town had around five thousand people, and your neighbors, although acres apart, where a tiny spiderweb of gossip that was impossible to ignore. Like most teenagers, Rob was not perfect. Just months after his high school graduation, his sweetheart came to him in tears with a positive pregnancy test in her hands. Rob was stuck and terrified, and didn’t know how to break the news that he had already signed into a contract with the United States Navy. Their break up was messy and her religious parents had her shipped off to a private care facility to “take care of it”. Rob was not allowed contact her since they refused get married and shipped off just weeks before her original due date to basic training.
The Navy was a great fit for Rob. He kept his head down and did his best to forget his mistakes. Serving his country was an honor for the son of a farmer, and Rob worn his uniform with a sense of pride and nationalism that was often lost on the young men he grew to command. He worked his way through a college degree and gave the Navy twenty years of his life. It wasn’t always easy, but Rob was able to retire as a Petty Officer First Class with a tidy pension.
The military was kind to Rob, but being a career seaman meant that relationships were few and far between. The only silver lining were the letters from his biological daughter that sprang up over a decade into his service. Finding out that he had a daughter was another shock he wasn’t ready for. The letter arrived at his parent’s apartment from an old family friend that mentioned that their granddaughter was back in town. Upset and confused, Rob reached out to her, answering her letters as quickly as he could, desperate to find any real connection outside of his aging parents. It wasn’t easy after missing the entirety of her early childhood, and their relationship wasn’t always perfect. But Rob loved his daughter with all of his heart, and decided to retire for a chance with a relationship with her.
His parents had retired to Florida to live out their years, and without any better idea, Rob decided to follow them to Westbrooke. With a business degree and a phenomenal amount of experience, it was easy for Rob to find a job. The hard part was assimilating back to civilian life. he knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but Rob felt like he was out of place in a world he helped serve. Technological advances confused him, pop culture was often lost on him, and there were things he could just never get used to. Rob rented a studio apartment above one of the shops in downtown. He always paid his rent on time, he kept his apartment ridiculously tidy. At the end of the day Rob was the model tenant. But, even with an apartment in the heart of Westbrooke. Rob felt disconnected from humanity. He was nice and friendly, but distant. He took a job to fill up his time and make a savings for himself, hoping it would help.
When he got news that his daughter applied to Westbrooke University, the first thing he did was upgrade his apartment to an actual house, just a ten minute drive into downtown Westbrooke. Rob made sure she had her own room, bathroom, and space in the house. It was everything Rob could have hoped for in his life, and having his not-so-little girl at home has slowly helped with his issues, but Rob often felt like a fly on the wall of the Small Town U.S.A. he had always wanted to defend.
POWER DESCRIPTION: CAMOUFLAGE: the ability to visually blend into surroundings by blending in with the coloration and form of their background to avoid optical perception.
ϟ BASIC: Enhanced Stealth: User has decreased footstep sound, increased blending into shadows, and is generally a more stealthy person. ϟ INTERMEDIATE Blending: The ability to blend into a background my assimilating colors and changing pigmentation. Users must have a direct view of the background their assimilating into, and assimilation becomes quicker with more practice.
ϟ ADVANCED Complete Camouflage: The ability to completely blend yourself and another object, and anything touching these objects, into a background.
ϟ FLAWS; The less background there is, the more visible you are. Any kind of motion also distorts the air and space around the user. Sounds, such as coughing, sneezing, and movement, are still at normal volume. This ability can only be sued in short bursts before it ‘fades’ quickly and drains the user’s energy. Camouflage ends if the user is unconscious or injured. Although it is possible to hide from other supers, detection is far more likely than it is from a normal civilian.
CONNECTIONS:  ϟ Veronica Diaz -- Roni is Rob’s miracle. He loves his daughter with all of his heart and he’s willing to do just about anything for her. Just about. Rob isn’t eager to fall back into the ways of the church. His time in the military taught him to think for himself, and Rob isn’t keen in the way his daughter blindly follows.
ϟ Brandon Walsh -- Brandon is like the son Rob’s never had. He sees a lot of himself in Brandon, and does his best to support him emotionally on bad days. Brandon is, perhaps, one of the only people that Rob talks to about his time in the service in depth.
ϟ Shawn Russo -- For whatever reason, Shawn likes drinking at his bar instead of one of the more popular ones in town. Rob doesn’t mind; it means if his jeep doesn’t want to start in the morning, he knows exactly who to call up..

ϟ Name: Anthony “Tony” Scott ϟ Age: Twenty-Six [26] ϟ Faceclaim: Elliot Knight, Dudley O'Shaughnessy, Don Benjamin ϟ Gender & Pronouns: Male or Non-Binary; UTP ϟ Profession: Graduate Student & Clerk at Level Up! ϟ Status: OPEN ϟ Prompts & Asks & Inspo
PERSONALITY:
ϟ Positive: personable, cunning, insightful, intuitive, giving. ϟ Negative: unsubtle, uncensored, clinical, abrasive, snarky.
BIOGRAPHY:
content warning for mentions of drug use and death.
Anthony Scott was born Anthony Howard in the state of New Jersey. By the age of four he was a ward of the state, seized by the courts after his father’s death and his mother’s drug charges. Tony has no memory of either of his parents. One of his first, vivid memories is of the long train ride from the courthouse to his new ‘home’. It was a temporary shelter for the youths in-between homes, and Tony had a bunk bed and a backpack to call his own. Inside had his birth certificate, a teddy bear his mother had bought him, a copy of Invincible Iron Man #2, and an Agate necklace.
A lot of the kids that Tony was placed with were bitter and jaded. Foster care was an imperfect system, but Tony just weathered through the storm. He learned a lot about kids and about people he met and families he stayed with. Tony was good at reading people, seeing through their disguises and recognizing who they really were as people. With some families, it meant Tony was in and out in a week. There were a lot of people who tried to abuse the system, cashing government checks without caring for their kids. They quickly found that he wasn’t worth the effort. He made sure of that. Tony never acted out in the way that normal kids would. He didn’t do anything rebellious or get into trouble with the law. Most Saturdays nights his foster parents found him reading or watching documentaries. When he had giving guardians, Tony would head straight to the comic shop with any spending money. He enjoying reading Iron Man and liked his moral ambiguity and snarky sense of humor. His collection slowly grew to the point where Tony needed a suitcase, not a backpack, when it was time to pack up and go.
Loretta Scott was a sixty year old woman living by herself on her retirement pension. She was more like a grandmother than a mother, but when Tony showed up on her doorstop at the age of thirteen, he really didn’t want a mother. She had never bared any children, instead dedicating her life to her community and civil service. Loretta was one of the very few people that Tony couldn’t figure out. She was selfless, to a fault, and never seemed to harbor any ill will towards anyone. She forced Anthony to branch out and learn how to interact with people instead of just watching them. Loretta permanently adopted him two years later, and Tony voluntarily took her last name. Slowly but surely, they fell into a routine that Tony never knew he craved until he finally had it in his hands. He applied to a dozen colleges, seeing acceptances from most of them. Westbrooke’s psychology department caught his eye, and before he knew what he was doing, he agreed to move hundreds of miles away from his guardian. He left Loretta with a heavy heart, insisting that she take the Agate necklace before he left. It’s for protection, he learned online years after he got it, and if anything were to happen to her while he was away, he wouldn’t forgive himself.
Without Loretta, there was no way that Tony would have gotten into college. She offered him a “loan”, which he could pay back after he got his degree, and always made sure to send him care packages and gift cards. He missed her and New Jersey while he was down in Florida, but WU was the challenge he had always wanted. He found a job at Level Up!, working as a floor person in their comics section. His professors saw his potential, and college was a social sink or swim situation he barely passed. Psychology was a perfect fit for Tony. His years bouncing through homes made him adept at reading people and growing up in the system made him passionate about fixing it. Tony still had a weird way around people. He often rubbed people the wrong way when he would call them out in their lies and it took a couple of friends groups before he found some suitable people to hang out with.
Loretta was the only person he bought a ticket for for his graduation, and it was the only person he needed by his side. She decided to retire to Florida, just an hour’s drive away in Daytona.Tony enrolled in WU’s master program for Psychology. With only months to go before he graduated in the fall, Tony’s close to achieving his dreams, and being able to find work as a social worker or psychologist for those in need.
POWER DESCRIPTION: XRAY VISION: the ability to regenerate and healing faster than normal speed and strength.
ϟ BASIC: Xray vision: The ability to see through small objects and walls a short vision. Xray vision functions on a black and white spectrum. ϟ INTERMEDIATE Increased Perception: Users can now see more detail in xray vision and hold it for longer. Increased Vision: Depth of vision is increased, and user can now see through stone and dense wood.
ϟ ADVANCED Seeing in Color: The ability to actually see in multiple colors versus a black and white fixed spectrum. Full X-Ray: Can see through some types of metal, and further through stone and wood.
ϟ FLAWS; X-Ray vision is very limited and functions as a “different” kind of viewing. It takes some getting used you and you are effectively farsighted during the use. As with all abilities, the longer you use it the more energy it takes to maintain. Sometimes, it is impossible to focus on staying “in between” layers, i.e. not seeing through everything, even the item you’re looking for.
CONNECTIONS:  ϟ Harper Gibson – Harper comes in every Wednesday for new comics, and Tony’s grow to admire them and their growing collection. Harper’s one of the few people he can talk for hours with about one of his favorite things, and he values their company.
ϟ Brandon Walsh – As far as bosses go, Tony couldn’t ask for a better one. Brandon is nice and friendly, and his dog is downright adorable. He’s one of the only people Tony isn’t outright rude to, and he respects Brandon and what he does.
ϟ Randall Lorado – Zap is kind of a dick, if you ask Tony. He stays on his side of the store, and leaves Zap over in electronics on the days they happen to work together. The few times they’re forced to interact, Tony has nothing but snark for him.

ABOUT:
ϟ Name: Randall “Zap” Darius Lorado Jr. ϟ Age: Twenty-Seven [27] ϟ Faceclaim:  Aldis Hodge, Michael B Jordan, Charles Michael Davis ϟ Gender & Pronouns: Male or Non-Binary; UTP ϟ Profession: Technical Supervisor at Level Up! ϟ Status: OPEN ϟ Prompts & Asks & Inspo
PERSONALITY:
ϟ Positive: brilliant, systematic, focused, daring, efficient. ϟ Negative: cocky, lazy, criminal, easily bored, callous.
BIOGRAPHY:
Zap was always the kid that was just a little too smart for his own good. He would finish his math problems before any other students and be allowed to play on the classroom’s sole computer. Zap fell in love with Oregon Trail, and remembers the good ol’ days of floppy disks, phone lines, and the first time a laptop was available for home sale. As technology grew so did Zap, and his hunger for more was insatiable. He begged and pleaded for a laptop for his tenth birthday, and his parents finally gave in two years later.
His father had high hopes for his only son. He wanted Zap to follow in his footsteps, play football, and go to college to take over the family business. But Zap had no desire to work in construction, of all things. The only time he was ever focused and taking things seriously was when he was in front of a computer. The rest of his classes were met with apathy and laziness. Zap was almost held back in sixth grade because he just didn’t care about English and History. After a stern talking to with his parents, he was threatened with boarding school or summer military ‘camp’ if he didn’t shape up. Zap did the minimal amount of work possible to still pass school.
It was in middle school that Zap found the internet. He was a self taught hacker just looking for something new and exciting in an age where everything was getting digitized and anything he could possibly want to know was just a Google away. His online handle, Zap, became known as the years went by. He placated his parents with a year of baseball in high school, although he hated every moment of it, and kept his core classes at average grades. Zap would stay up until the early hours of the morning, spying on people he definitely should not be spying on. He hacked into his high school, manipulated grades in subtle ways as a prank against kids he didn’t like. He found himself adding crude drawings to the city’s official online page. The things he did were harmless, to him at least, and there was nothing wrong with a little fun.
He graduated high school with a decent GPA and found himself looking at local colleges. UCLA was the safe bet, and with a computer-oriented major, Zap was less bored with life. Eventually he found himself on UCLA’s servers, submitting papers he was too lazy to write and getting himself into classes that were previously full. His hacking was petty and juvenile, but it eventually caught the interest of people who didn’t care that was he was only nineteen and bored. When the F.B.I showed up on his doorstep, Zap realized that his hacking had consequences. He plead guilty to three counts of felony hacking and spent twenty months in jail with a hefty fine. His parents were furious, and Zap finally learned that maybe he wasn’t as great of a hacker as he thought he was. UCLA dropped him before his trial, and when he was released from federal prison, his parents refused to have him home.
Instead, Zap was shipped off to his grandparent’s house in sunny Westbrooke, Florida. With his record, jobs were a little scarce to come by, but Zap found himself commuting to Daytona for a job at Best Buy. A couple of months into his stay he found Level Up! and became friends with the owner. Zap was clear about his past, and he was offered a job as an I.T. consultant and salesman for the computer and electronic section of their store. It was a dream job, but not Zap’s dream. He found himself growing bored with the menial work but knew better than to fall back into his old ways. Hacking left a trail and a trail meant he could get caught. Instead, he threw himself into new computer games, eagerly soaking up any and all technology in a way that was reminiscent of himself as a young child.
POWER DESCRIPTION: CYBERTECH: the ability to control computers and computer-like systems with your mind.
ϟ BASIC: Technological Connection: The users can see technological paths in three-dimensional real time in front of them, and may use that to assist in hacking and programming systems. ϟ INTERMEDIATE Traceless Hack: Since a machine is not being used for hacking, there is no physical trail that the hacker leaves. Computer Mind: The user’s brain functions more like a computer, able to compartmentalize better and figure out other systems and computers at a faster rate.
ϟ ADVANCED Touchless Hacking: The ability to use all hacking powers without a physical touch. Storage Capacity: User’s mind functions like a computer. Memory, retention, and storage happen at a much faster rate and recall skills are superhuman.
ϟ FLAWS; While hacking without a physical touch is eventually acquired, the user must be within a certain distance of the technology. Anything more than ten feet requires completely concentration and a much large source of energy. Hacking with the mind may not leave a track, but it does require the user to be one-hundred percent focused on the actual hacking. This means any talking, movement, or otherwise distraction can sever the link prematurely.
CONNECTIONS: ϟ Nicholas Santos – Nicholas clings to zap in a way that Zap’s noticed, but doesn’t particularly care about. He lets Nicholas hang out with him the way that an older brother begrudgingly allows his younger sibling to trail along.
ϟ Katherine Sato – Katherine is a little less annoying than most people. Zap doesn’t really mind when she shows up with small, technical issues. She’s probably the closest thing to a friend that Zap has in Westbrooke.
ϟ Anthony Scott – Tony is kind of weird. Zap doesn’t particularly like him, or his snarky way of speaking to people. He’d much rather just ignore Tony all together, even if they do work in the same building.

ABOUT:
ϟ Name: Madison Carter ϟ Age: Thirty [30] ϟ Suggestions FC: Lupita Nyongo, Gugu Mbatha, Amber Riley ϟ Gender & Pronouns: Female or Non-Binary; UTP ϟ Profession: Cancer Research Specialist ϟ Status: OPEN ϟ Prompts & Asks & Inspo
PERSONALITY:
ϟ Positive: intelligent, devoted, sentimental, diligent, amiable. ϟ Negative: timid, wistful, envious, workaholic, resigned.
BIOGRAPHY:
content warning for terminal illness / cancer
Madison was the ‘baby’ of the family and although only three minutes separated her and her sister, sometimes it felt like years. Their older brother, Duncan, was always there for her when Morgan was off, running around with the other kids and making friends easily. She was as close to him as a child as she was to Morgan. Madison loved her sister, and she knew that Morgan loved her too. At the end of the day, when Morgan was done socializing she was always back by Madison’s side, making sure that she was okay and everything was fine.
Madison loved her sister dearly. They were close the way that twins were, with their own secret language at the age of six and sharing clothing until their teenage years. Morgan and Madison looked identical up until the age of ten. It was hard for teachers to tell them apart, something that Morgan enjoyed way more than Madison did. Madison excelled in school, especially her STEM classes. As a young child, she would dress up for Halloween as a doctor, lawyer, or a scientist. She loved math and science, but her favorite was always biology. Madison took any and all health related electives she could in school. She graduated within the top five percent of her class and was accepted to the University of Florida’s pre-med program.
She hated the distance between her and her siblings, her best friends, but knew it was for the best. Westbrooke didn’t offer what she needed, and Madison knew, without a doubt, that she wanted to become a doctor. Madison was a different person at college. She dreamed of being a surgery, popular and important to everyone in the hospital. She opened up more, making friends that enjoyed hanging out with her. It was easy, living outside of Morgan’s shadow. No one knew she was missing her more popular half, and she shined all on her own. Morgan was still a quieter girl. She was never going to be the life of the party, especially at a school as big as UF. But the large campus allowed her anonymity and friends who cared just as much about science as she did, and that was something she could connect with.
When Duncan got his diagnosis, Madison was devastated. She had just months before she was set to graduate and exams coming up, but Madison talked to her academic dean and put in a leave request. For two weeks, Madison went around the country with her sister and brother, doing whatever he could possible want. They were young, and without much savings, but their parents lent them a credit card without any questions asked, too busy grieving themselves to care about savings. Madison brought her homework with her, working late into the night while Morgan and Duncan slept. She cherished the time she had with her brother, and barely made it through her final semester.
Madison had to make a decision after her undergraduate studies were complete. She had acceptances into medical school, but took the offer to go into scientific research instead. Before, Madison wanted to be a a star surgeon to prove that she could be just as important and likable as her sister. With Duncan’s death looming over her, Madison moved to Westbrooke, desperately missing her family but to independent to go live at home with her parents. It was enough to be in the same town as Morgan, even if it meant feeling like she was once again in her sister’s shadows. She found a job to support herself while working through school and settled down in Westbrooke. Madison took online courses, received her Masters by the age of twenty-six. She worked as a lead researcher on cancer, with a particular focus in catching and curing cancer before it had the ability to take over the brain stem.
POWER DESCRIPTION: POSTCOGNITION: the ability to see specific memories into the past.
ϟ BASIC: Flash Backward: The user can see quick flashes of the past, usually in three to five second uncontrolled bursts. Nostalgic Pull: The ability to sense when those around you are dwelling on the past. ϟ INTERMEDIATE Longer Visions: the ability to extend a flash backward into a longer, more concrete vision. Alternative Senses: In cases of flash backward where other senses are important to the event, sometimes other senses will be available to the user (i.e. sense, touch, taste, etc.)
ϟ ADVANCED Memory Recovery: The ability to unlock a memory from a person’s unconscious during a flash backward.
ϟ FLAWS: Going into a flash backwards leaves the user’s body completely vulnerable. No movement or action can take place while using the power. The longer a memory is extended, the more energy it takes. Flash backwards require a physical touch to revisit the past of anyone other than the user.
CONNECTIONS: ϟ Morgan Carter -- Without Morgan, there would be no Madison. Madison adores her sister, and can’t imagine a life without her. Even though she tends to get pulled into her work, she always makes time to talk to Morgan and see how her day is going.
ϟ Rachel Senderson -- Chell was the first person to invite her to the neighborhood. Almost eight years later, Madison is proud to call Chell one of her best friends. She’s a earned a lot from her, and is now just a little bit less hopeless when it comes to fixing cars.
ϟ Aliyah Johnston -- No one makes coffee like Aliyah does. Madison knows that no matter what mood she’s in, if Aliyah is making it, it’ll be delicious. She’s the only reason that Madison is such a loyal customer to Espresso Self
