I do not need the pressure of your expectations, I am already under a lot of pressure to keep myself alive amidst all that I've been feeling & facing.

No matter how much your gut knows that the way she treated you was not okay, you will second guess yourself repeatedly, trying to make sense of why she did what she did, and worst of all, wonder if it's what you deserved.

This isn't because you don't know the difference between what's healthy and not. It's because she's conditioned you not to trust yourself. A loving mother teaches you the very opposite.

Remember, anyone who isn't willing to acknowledge the impact their words, actions, and behaviours can have on you is pretty likely toxic. They probably do the have the tools or the capacity to engage with you in ways that you need.  

If they tend to convince you that their impact is all that matters without recognising and acknowledging your feelings, then there is a problem in that dynamic. 

A narcissistic mother tends to give reasons as to why she did what she did, or said what she said, or behaved the way she did, and often, this reason has something to do with how you aren't good enough. Or how you needed to be kept in your lane. Or how she was only trying to protect you for your good.  

It loosely translates to: "If only you had listened to me, I wouldn't have had to treat you like a worthless piece of crap." 

A narcissistic mother generally won't apologise, and if she does, she won't know how to provide a heartfelt and genuine apology.

Often, the conversation itself can be guilt-tripping and shame-inducing. The chances of a narcissistic mother taking any form of responsibility are very low, and this is where you need to be able to take responsibility for yourself.

You weren't made to tolerate abuse, my love. Abuse under the name of family is still abuse. 

Emotional abuse is abuse. 

Psychological abuse is abuse. 

Helping your mind and body unlearn and heal what consistent trauma taught you would set you free. 

Seek help, learn practical tools to support yourself, find support within the community, and continue to cultivate your voice.

You're so much more powerful than she made you believe.
