i know i tend to be a bit theatrical but there is nothing pb has done to stop me from pulling my hair out (im totally normal about not seeing aerin yet again)

im really just struggling to understand the purpose of presenting him as a love interest only to have him disappear fairly early on in the story. it feels like a waste of diamonds and an ill-perceived attempt at baiting certain readers.

i assume his disappearance will make narrative sense, at some point, maybe, but the continual disconnect between mc and other characters (namely newer characters + aerin) keeps me from engaging with the story in its entirety.

honestly i would love to see aerin's struggle with his past fleshed out, especially alongside nia's found intrigue in her own power and the sudden shift in what it actually means to be a part of the shadow realm's whole. how unique that would've been.

i just really hope that aerin's return won't be in the same chapter as pb's famous "this will be the last chance you have to spend a moment alone with your love interest in this book" pop up. then i really will pull my hair out.

I agree, and I also feel that this is more Mal’s style. He shows his grief, his rage, his pain, his want. Mal is expressive, always has been, but it takes a more watchful approach to see right through him.

Remember the time he asked MC to join him on a walk and didn’t fully express why until he crouched down to speak over his mother’s grave. He was showing his trust, his growing attachment, his budding want for MC to know him. The real him. What makes him tick. What made him the man he is today.

He was doing the same thing through everything OP just said.

Mal always struck me as the kind of guy who loves through action and watches those he cares for with soft eyes, calling little attention to himself whilst he does it. Could his interaction with mc have been made to be more emotional? 100%. But was he still Mal? Absolutely.

Just because the man is a silhouette by nature doesn’t mean his love doesn’t still rival the Light.

LISTEN LISTEN, I know we’re all sad and disappointed at Mal’s reunion. BUT we need to talk about how this man did whatever he could to keep the memory of MC close to him when they were gone.

Him telling stories about MC to his kids????????

Building the orphanage when MC disappeared because he needed a purpose?? And the one he picks is the one he wanted to achieve, WITH MC. (for my fellow Mal-romancers out there)

I know we were all expected a big, dramatic reunion, but I honestly think this one was pretty good too. I think the emotions we were hoping for was THERE, it was just subtler.

i just replayed it and honestly the heartbreak is still there. book after book of spending diamonds and falling for yet another pixelated man who, for some unknown reason, demeans his own worth and denies compassion and love despite my every purchased diamond scene … you’d think i’d learn by now.

and what do i do?

oh yeah, that’s the one. that’s the one i want.

and what does choices make happen? logan basically tells mc to go find love and happiness elsewhere without him after grooming her love for an entire book. i’m DISTRAUGHT.

i get that, perhaps, it is supposed to be a beautiful ending about life’s fleeting moments and how we might change because of them … and trust me i am definitely an advocate of writing that emulates life’s greatest challenges and moments that slip by in a matter of months, or seconds.

but COME ON.

for once i want cheesy happy endings with this ONE LI. and perhaps it’s because i don’t get the ending i want deserve that makes me ache so much for it. or perhaps it’s because every other story has satisfying endings for the LIs.

all in all, i’m not sure why i keep re-breaking my own heart by re-playing these stories. i really need to give it a rest.

instead now i’m going to author my own part 2 to ride or die for my own sake, to lie to myself that logan‘s arc, and the other crew members, didn’t disappoint.

his love burns for mc like no other and it honestly reignited even this heart of mine.

*sigh* yet another unrealistic expectation of love that i fully expect to be written into my life by whatever mystic powers cause humans to author this kind of love in the first place.

it’s easy for hobbies to turn into things we avoid because of the pressure we put on ourselves. but i promise, u have nothing to prove. if u enjoy drawing, draw!! it doesn’t have to be museum worthy. ur baking doesn’t need to be master chef worthy every time you do it. hobbies are hobbies because they make you happy and u enjoy doing them. there is no pressure for u to become a professional in everything u enjoy; enjoy it for the lack of pressure. try and let yourself participate in things without tying ur worth to the final products. if it makes you happy, anything that comes from that is worth it.

can someone please explain to me this one thing:

how is it that mc posed as the tragic victim in this half-baked love story for the first half of the book, yet her new coworkers still clamor after any new piece of gossip about Sam’s new “mystery” girlfriend?

you can’t tell me that these associates, who CLEARLY love standing around water coolers and hashing out theories and il-perceived “information” from their “sources” pertaining to their bosses’ love and personal lives, wouldn’t know a lick about what’s going on in the tabloids.

we literally had brunch with sofia and feigned every emotion in the book to savor the 15 seconds of limelight with the paparazzi standing 5 feet away. we literally went to some fundraiser-gala on some wannabe met ‘im -acting-like-new-money-so-let-me-flash-it’ type beat with the paparazzi begging mc to tell them who she’s wearing (which, somehow, she knows the answer to).

so what “dirty little secret” is sam hiding, exactly? i thought he and mc “met-cute” at the regetta?

PLEASE correct me if im wrong, but they have to be able to recognize her, right? or is mc now clark kent?

all things aside, i still like sam dalton. quite shamelessly. and, no, i can’t and won’t explain myself.
