T is for Tuatara The Tuatara is a sports car designed, developed and manufactured by SSC North America. Jason Castriota was a part of the design collaboration, so it is easy to see where it gets it's good looks - he has an impressive resume and has designed for Gruppo Bertone, Pininfarina, Saab and Ford. After being initally introduced with a 6.9 liter twin-turbo V8, the engine displacement was later reduced to a 5.9 liter in order to allow for a higher redline. SSC claims that the Tuatara produces 1,350hp (1,750hp on E85) with a 300 mph top speed. The successor to the SSC Ultimate Aero, the name Tuatara come from the unique reptile, found only in New Zealand, known for having the fastest molecular evolution of any living animal. Limited to only 100 units - if you ever see one of these, make sure to cherish the moment, because you might not ever see one again! #ssctuatara #36daysoftype #36daysoflettering #typography #instacars #graphicdesign #carguys #carguy #ssc #shelbysupercars #ultimateaero #tuatar #300mph #twinturbo #v8 https://www.instagram.com/p/CkG0mnmPQ3g/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

S is for Shelby Founded by legendary racing driver and entrepreneur Carroll Shelby in 1962, "Shelby American" is a high performance vehicle manufacturer. After seeing Brian Lister's success with Jaguar engines transplanted into his Lister sports cars, Shelby and his business partner and fellow racer Jim Hall, had the idea of putting small-block Chevrolet motors into the Lister body. A couple of years later, they approached General Motors with the idea of creating a more competitive toeuing car out of a lighter aluminum body and the Corvette chassis and engine. They built only three of these stunning "Scaglietti Corvettes" before GM refused to sell them any more rolling chassis in fear that they would compete with the original Corvette for sales. Fast-forward to 1962 and Shelby has now worked out a new deal with Ford for their new Windsor "small-block" V8s and AC Cars of Britain for a European chassis. The Shelby Cobra was born. Shelby American went on to create more stunning automotive masterpieces including but not limited to: Daytonas, Mustangs and GT40s. All more breathtaking than the next! ...and the rest is history! #shelbycobra #36daysoftype #36daysoflettering #typography #instacars #graphicdesign #carguys #carguy #shelby #cobra #accobra #mustang #daytona #gt40 #carrollshelby #ford #v8 #muscle https://www.instagram.com/p/ChnwFPfMH2L/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

R is for Ruf
When Ruf Automobile was first founded in 1939 (then known as "Auto Ruf") by Alois Ruf Sr., it was a service garage and full-service gas station.
It wasn't until 1977, a few years after Alois Jr. took control of the business, that they would debut the first Porsche-based complete model: a tuned version of the 930 with a stroked 3.3 liter motor.
Since those early days, Ruf has been internationally celebrated for creating some of the most powerful and beautiful Porsche-based models and even held the record as the world's fastest production car (211 mph) in 1987.
The new CTR3 was released in 2007 to celebrate the company's new plant in Bahrain, and as a 20th anniversary celebration of the original CTR. In 2010 Ruf also showcased the RGT-8, the first production V8-powered 911 in history.

Q is for Qvale This relatively small and obscure car manufacturer has quite the interesting backstory. Originally started by Bruce Qvale, the son of Kjell Qvale (who was the first distributor for Jaguar in the US West Coast and one of the original founders of the San Francisco Auto Show), Qvale was an independent Italian car manufacturer that was started in 2000 and only ever made the pictured model: the Mangusta. The Qvale Mangusta was produced after the original design -- chosen by De Tomaso to revive their brand (then named the De Tomaso "Biguà") -- ran into some financial problems. The name "Mangusta" was chosen by Qvale as an homage to the historic De Tomaso Mangusta. Qvale built 284 cars between 2000 and 2002 before eventually selling the rights to the design to MG Rover Group in 2003. One year later, this design was resurrected in the form of the much more aesthetically pleasing MG SV and SVR that utilized the structure, suspension, engine and gearbox of the Mangusta. #qvalemangusta #36daysoftype #36daysoflettering #typography #instacars #graphicdesign #carguys #carguy #qvale #mangusta #detomaso #mg #mgsv #mgsvr #svr https://www.instagram.com/p/CUdTV7IPHhp/?utm_medium=tumblr

P is for Panoz The small but mighty American sports car manufacturer, Panoz Auto Development Company, was first to build an American AIV (Aluminum Intensive Vehicle). The Roadster (1992-1995) and AIV Roadster (1996-1999). The beautifuly sculpted aluminum body panels are both light and strong and sit on top of a Ford Mustang power train, drivetrain and suspension. The later "AIV Roadster" chassis used the all aluminum DOHC 32 valve SVT Cobra V8! Weighing in at just over 2,500 lbs, the Roadster made up to 305hp! This unique and capable front engined rear-wheel-drive gem never came with a roof or a radio and only came with a 5-speed manual. #panozroadster #36daysoftype #36daysoflettering #typography #instacars #graphicdesign #carguys #carguy #panoz #roadster #aiv #v8 #mustang #svt #cobra https://www.instagram.com/p/CT2rxHHvXge/?utm_medium=tumblr

O is for Oullim Apparently there aren't too many exciting cars that start with the letter "O" -- this one is interesting if nothing else. The Spirra was a mid-engine rear-wheel-drive sports car designed by Oullim Motors in downtown Seoul, South Korea. Production for the Spirra ran from 2008 to 2017 and offered several variants. The EX, T, S, N and Iconic models came equipped with a 2.7 liter turbo or twin-turbo Hyundai V6 generating as much as 500hp whereas the later "CregiT" models used the Hyundai RS3800 V6 -- a 3.8 liter turbo and twin-turbo which pushed horsepower numbers up to a very respectable 600hp. All models came with a 6 speed manual and we still have no idea how to pronounce "Oullim"... #oullimspirra #36daysoftype #36daysoflettering #typography #instacars #graphicdesign #carguys #carguy #oullim #spirra #hyundai #v6 #turbo #twinturbo #600hp https://www.instagram.com/p/CTLNyAfrTmM/?utm_medium=tumblr

N is for NSX The original Honda NSX, marketed in North America as the Acura NSX was a true masterpiece. It was specifically developed with the goal of meeting or exceeding the performance of a Ferrari V8, while being reliable and more affordable. The mid-engine rear wheel drive NSX, or "New Sportscar experimental" offered advanced aerodynamics with styling inspired by an F-16 fighter jet cockpit. Even the legendary F1 World Champion Ayrton Senna was brought in to help finalize it's development and it would ultimately become the world's first mass-produced car to have an all-aluminum body. The first generation models were powered by either a 3.0 or 3.2 liter V6 and featured the revolutionary Honda VTEC technology. The first generation ran from 1990 to 2005. 11 years later, the second generation (pictured) was introduced with a brand new hybrid 3.5 liter twin-turbo V6 with three electric motors producing close to 600hp. Anyone who has had the privilege of driving any generation NSX knows that it is a sports car like no other, even inspiring the design of other supercars like the McLaren F1. #hondansx #acuransx #36daysoftype #36daysoflettering #typography #instacars #graphicdesign #carguys #carguy #honda #acura #nsx #vtec https://www.instagram.com/p/CS-fZOCDwe_/?utm_medium=tumblr

M is for Miura The forever stunning Lamborghini Miura was the first supercar with a rear mid-engine two-seat layout. When it was released, it was the fastest production road car. The development of the Miura was done in the engineering teams spare time, against the wishes of founder of Lamborghini, who thought the car would be too expensive and detract from the company's focus (which at the time was powerful yet dignified GT cars). With only a rolling chassis being presented (no body), the original prototype, the P400, was incredibly well received by car enthusiasts and the press at the 1965 Turin Auto Show. The P400, for "posteriore 4 litri", or "rear 4 liter" was indicative of the 3.9 liter V12 engine borrowed from the 400GT, which produced 345hp. They produced 275 P400s between 1966 and 1969 which were all sold for $20,000 each, which at the time was quite expensive. After the initial P400 models, additional variants were developed and sold up until 1973 for a total of 764 units across all variants. #lamborghinimiura #36daysoftype #36daysoflettering #typography #instacars #graphicdesign #carguys #carguy #lamborghibi #miura #lambo #p400 #v12 https://www.instagram.com/p/CS3O_5oj8Vh/?utm_medium=tumblr

L is for Lexus LFA Development of the Lexus LFA began in the early 2000s. After nearly a decade and three concepts, the production model was finally introduced in 2010. Only 500 units were ever made, all hand-built by a special team of engineers and specialists at a Toyota plant in Aichi, Japan. The motor - developed in collaboration with Yamaha - is a 4.8 liter V10 making over 550hp and is one of the most amazing sounding motors ever made (seriously, do yourself a favor and find some videos of it on YouTube)! #lexuslfa #36daysoftype #36daysoflettering #typography #instacars #graphicdesign #carguys #carguy #lexus #lfa #toyota #yamaha #v10 https://www.instagram.com/p/CSzPn7KLGFU/?utm_medium=tumblr

K is for Karma The Fisker Karma was one of the worlds very first luxury plug-in electric vehicles. Although it is technically a hybrid, the Karma is responsible for showing the world that electric cars could be luxurious and beautiful. Powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged inline-four and two electric motors, Fisker was able to get a combined 52 miles per gallon from the Karma, despite it weighing 5,300lbs! A car ahead of its time: Fisker would eventually have to file for bankruptcy just over a year after they began production due to several large financial setbacks. #fiskerkarma #36daysoftype #36daysoflettering #typography #instacars #graphicdesign #carguys #carguy #fisker #karma #electric #electriccar #plugin #hybrid https://www.instagram.com/p/CSvhzpusgvS/?utm_medium=tumblr

F is for Firebird First introduced in 1967, the Pontiac Firebird was designed to compete with the Ford Mustang which took the car market by storm since its debut a few years earlier. Although there were many different models, special versions and appearance packages, the one pictured here, the Trans-Am remains the most recognizable variant. The infamous hood decal, know to many (unofficially) as the "screaming chicken" was first introduced on the Trans Am and later became a very popular add-on option for most Firebirds for $55. #pontiacfirebird #36daysoftype #36daysoflettering #typography #instacars #graphicdesign #carguys #carguy #pontiac #firebird #transam #fbody #screamingchicken https://www.instagram.com/p/CSiX8tKjO8f/?utm_medium=tumblr

D is for Diablo There isn't a single car enthusiast on the planet who doesn't know about the Lamborghini Diablo. Growing up, the Diablo was THE definitive super car. With it's distinctive aerodynamic wedge shape and a beastly V12, there were 2,884 made in just over a decade (1990-2001). 0-60 in just 4.5 seconds, this thing was no joke in the 90s! Fun fact: you could get some fancy options like a factory fitted luggage set for $2,600 or a Breguet dash clock for $10,500!
