November 18 My father drove me home from school He was not the type to speak much or Ask me about my day We listened to the radio November 18 My heart sank like an anchor dropped in the middle of the ocean It ruptured through the water, every underwater ripple whispering "They buried him" It was as if my father heard my anchor hit the ocean floor, because he spoke "I attended anti-Marcos rallies when I was young" I could not, did not believe him If you knew my father now you would say that He loved the Marcos surname so much You’d think it was his own So I wanted to ask him What went wrong? And again he must've heard my inner voices, the unwitting roar of my waves "I realized that he was a smart man after all" I stayed silent because that's what young people do, you see When old people teach them, talk to them about history It's funny how young ones in the 60s Were called hippies so as to shame them They named them Because they fought for nonviolent ethics As if 'world peace' and 'no wars' Aren't ethical Ideal Moral It's funny because 50 years later It's still the same We still cry and stand up and are taught to sit down because "You weren't even born yet" "How would you know?" "You're too young to understand." Do I have get shot to know that Gunning someone is wrong? Do I have to lose something to know that "Thou shall not steal"? Do I have to be there to earn the right to care? But I will not stab myself so I can compare my wounds with yours It does not work that way Your wounds will not heal that way I cannot claim that I feel the exact pain but I have read my history textbooks and they did not help me They did not mention the atrocities and the violence and the blood and the suppression, the oppression There is no mention Of the blood, the life, the the thief in the night Only a "dictator" But even then I knew that it was synonymous with "evil" and "manipulative I learned to correlate the word "dictator" and "wolf" It still sounds the same to me November 18 They left the wolf rest where the noble sheep sleep The wolf's kin rejoices And out there is a boy As young as the wolf's seemingly perfect apo, And while he lives a life of peace and wealth The boy cries wolf and his cries are not felt Because he is too young to know but no Definitely not too young to earn the right to care

May the lives we lost in Minnesota, Baton Rouge, and all the places in the world where terror and discrimination still reign in the hearts of the bigoted, rest in peace. Together we can stop this. No matter the race, the God you believe in, because in the end, we are all humans with the right to live. We must not settle for a world where black men and women live in fear of being gunned down because of no legitimate reason, where anyone can buy a gun and use it as he wishes, where a 4-year old child witnesses an unarmed man being shot by a police officer, a figure that was supposed to keep peace and order in out communities. Let our voices be heard. We will take no more of this. We have been marginalized long enough. Let change be the universal language we all speak. We have had it. We have already lost so many lives. The government needs to know. Our world leaders need to recognize the fact that there is a problem at hand. It is not just a pattern, a coincidence. This is systematic racism. No, we have not come a long way. There is still a broad racial division between black and white. And the day we choose to acknowledge it in order to, once and for all, demolish it is the day when there will be no black or white. There will only be people. #BlackLivesMatter just as much.

THIS IS SO CUTE OMF
you and vicki have been together as long as a lot of us have been alive. What’s it like being in love with someone for that long?
It’s great. However, there were probably ways you could have asked that without making me feel like a dinosaur. I do think it is an amazing privilege to be able to grow up with someone. To know someone almost as well as you know yourself. I recommend it. We were 16 when we got together. My only regret is that we didn’t start dating younger.
