32,000 Brazilians join #IDontDeservetoBeRaped outcry over survey

Earlier this week, Brazil’s Institute for Applied Economic Research (IPEA) unveiled a shocking statistic: over 65% of survey respondents said that “if dressed provocatively, women deserve to be attacked and raped.” The most disturbing part of that figure? Over 66% of the people who participated in the survey were women.

The majority of respondents believed that the fault for rape lies not with the rapist, but with the women. Over 58% said “if women knew how to behave, there would be less rape,” taking the “I know you want it” mentality to a disturbing level.

But the survey has also sparked an outrage across Brazil, with tens of thousands taking to the Internet and social media to express their anger and disgust. In response to the survey’s findings, Brazilian journalist Nana Queiroz created a Facebook page with the hashtag #NãoMereçoSerEstuprada, which translates to: #IDon’tDeserveToBeRaped. She then invited people to post selfies with the hashtag, and within 24 hours over 32,000 women — and men — joined the page.

Disney Canon #3: Fantasia
14 February 2014 Well, technically we watched it over three days, but we finished it in the yurt! Forgot about the conductor giving a live-action intro to every piece. Dylan loved how many ballets were used and the stretching flamingoes. He also loved the scary Satan bit. How metal. The fact this 1940 movie animated the Rite of Spring with dinosaurs and evolution blew our minds.

When I don't shave my legs in a while Dylan has taken to referring to my legs as "Ferngully: The Last Rainforest." He's lucky I find him so cute.

Disney Canon #2: Pinocchio 
20 January 2014 Animation is infinitely better than Snow White skill-wise. Also it is super trippy. I don't quite remember the story playing out that way. And why don't I remember the fox/cat bad guys even a little bit???? Fun fact: Jiminey Cricket was used as a stand in for Jesus Christ as a swear word in Snow White...using him as a conscience in Pinocchio makes a ton of sense. The scene where Pinocchio's friend turns into a donkey and you just see the transformation from his shadow? Horrifying. Also offensive gypsy stereotype. Yeesh 1940!

FSU Mock Trial would like to release our direct examination of Whitney Bowman, the defendant. Whitney will be played by none other than Laura, who will be wearing a purple velociraptor costume and clear stripper heels. I will be the conductor for this examination train...wreck.  Me: Please state your name.  Bowman: RAWWRRRR Me: Did you do it? We went to Cecilia's Kitchen on 29 July 2013! It's a restaurant opened by a Hispanic woman married to a French man, so they have tamales, empanadas, and crepes. So fun! We got crepes and they were TO DIE FOR. Mmmmmmmmmm. Dessert crepe for me with the best cream on top of fruits and regular veggie crepe for Dylan.

Day 2 of Bele Cher! Toured the western half of downtown Asheville, visited a random park, walked into two music shops, got lost looking for pulled pork sandwiches, saw The Mountain Goats, and bought $20 of candy from Mast General Store. IT WAS A GOOD DAY.
