Funny, that. If he didn’t know better, Sil’d think the mer pursuing his own universe – though, one created in dreams and memories rather than gears and stardust. He watches Caspar move, half-lost in his own thoughts.

     “ I think they’d call you cheating, if they knew. ”

He’s smiling, slightly.

     “ What do you ultimately plan to do with all this? ”

Caspar leans his hip against a desk after he’s tidied up the library to a slightly more presentable state, brushing a few strands of his fine hair out of his face.

     “As I said, I use this place to experiment. I can create whatever I want, see how it bodes under the circumstances of the waking world, and if it’s success outlook is positive, I will take those plans into reality and replicate it.”

Saying it out loud, it all sounds so... silly. Childish. But that is, after all, when his ambition was set into motion. 

     “Hopefully the things I make, after they aid myself, will benefit others. Recall memories, understand dreams, piece together long forgotten history.” The student chuckles softly. 

     “Maybe there are easier ways to study such fields, but I don’t like to do things the easy way.”

Interesting. There’s much to be said for self-sought independence – and, naturally, the selfless desire Caspar so expresses.

Sil bites back a laugh, though, when he’s pointed towards the “ mess ” – stars, if only his devout knew what his study becomes under duress of his work. He smiles, all the same.

     “ There’s no mess here, from what I can see. ”

The library, though… it’s an impressive collection.

     “ You’ve been at this a long time, haven’t you? ”

Caspar stars gathering books he left out, but if one were to inspect closer, they would find these to be no ordinary books, but individual memories. Some were old, torn, dusty books, while some had unmarred pages yet to be studied.

     “Oh, yes, quite a while. It was just a reoccurring dream at first, of a giant tower in a sea of cosmos. Over time I began to explore it, shape it, mold it.”

Those times, this world was barren, empty, and only held pain. Now, its a safe haven and full of creation. He hopes Sil can see that without being told.

Caspar hastily returns the books to their proper shelves as he continues rambling, climbing up and down various ladders clinging to the bookcases.

     “I started cataloging everything after that, and started experimenting. Dreams are a marvelous thing, Lord Seht. So much untapped potential. I can do whatever I want here, and it doesn’t cost me anything. With how many experiments have gone awry, everyone should be grateful I do my research here.”

I feel like expanding a bit on Caspar’s sleeping habits and abilities because it’s... a big part of his life lol

Caspar most likely was born with narcolepsy for sure, but was only accented with trauma and using sleep as a coping mechanism. 

He can, and will, fall asleep at random, usually without warning. 

Sometimes he does get hurt. He’s probably split his head on a counter or dislocated something if he fell from high and fell hard enough

The longer he’s been awake, the more likely he is to have an attacka nd suddenly sleep

Thankfully these sudden sleep spells are not like his intentional sleep spells; he may only be asleep for a few hours or a normal sleep cycle at most, not days on end like he does when he willingly sleeps

He doesn’t dream during his sleep attacks. He more or less passes out and will not remember the few minutes prior to falling asleep

Cas tends to not leave his room much because of this. If he feels any amount of dizzy or drowsy, wherever he is, he will immediately request to be walked back to his room. 

This is why he doesn’t like to take walks alone, along with the trauma of the countless of times he’s been jumped, mugged, and assaulted while on the streets

While he dreams is also interesting

The only way to wake him up is through either severe bodily trauma, which is not recommended, or using magic of sorts. Something that drains his magicka, leaving him unable to use magic in his dreams, is the only way anyone’s ever been able to wake him without actually harming him.

He will talk in his sleep sometimes. Sometimes he says really important things, too. 

Sometimes he tells secrets

Awake cas is prone to severe anxiety because he feels the waking world is the nightmare and his dream is the real, safe world. This is a delusion that he has yet to get over, so encouraging it is not good lol

Lord knows what will happen if the safety of his dream is ever breached

Oh and he loves it when he has someone to sleep next to. He gets scared when he first wakes up because, again, waking nightmare, but having a familiar face keeps him from having an anxiety attack.
