How the Game is Played

A very fare finished thing from me! I've come a long way since I started doing art in the Rogue Trader fan community... I seriously can't thank the folks here enough for all the support and encouragement they've given over the past 18 months. I definitely wouldn't have pushed myself to do something like this before now!

I've started having fun with the little details (which used to drive me crazy before). I hope one day to master colouring too but, for now, I'm happy with simple black and white.

It's hard to pick a favourite out of all the images... but this is a serious contender. I love the callback to the first image with Ada and Wynnrun having their own stand-off... but especially the detailing in the background that reflects the two Marazhais and their divergent paths! That was a truly inspired choice!

I can't wait to begin Chapter 3! Thank you again for collaborating with me on this! It's been such a joy! <3

After the two Rogue Traders faced each other, it was time for the Marazhais to follow suite. Unlike Ada and Wynnrun, these two are faced with being essentially the same person but not quite. Both have a different role in their relationship and both took different paths, one returning to Commoragh to become Archon, one leaving the Dark City behind to become a Corsair Prince. Both are still equally prideful tho so ideals will clash. I wanted to showcase this moment similarly to when Ada and Wynnrun realize they are similar but different while also giving a little nod to how the Marazhais got here.

Definitely check out the new chapter! There's more to come! A lot more. And leave lot's of kudos and comments for Scrib who did an absolutely amazing job writing this!

It tickles me so much how well you captured that "he did not just say that" moment. All their expressions are priceless, but I especially love Wynnrun's deadpan stare and Corsair Marazhai's fuming rage! Bloody Archon Marazhai just can't help himself...

I also just love the calm of the first image as well, with Ada doing what she does best (albeit in a more conventional way), Wynnrun looking on, curious but trusting... and just that hand on the back of the chair because of course *he* would not be far away.

Getting everyone together in a reaction shot like that was a bit challenging and increased the number of illustrations from last chapter but it just had to be, I can not pass up visualizing the comedy that forms in my head from this moment!

Chapter 2! Yaaaaay! It was such a treat to throw around ideas for these designs out there and watch the artwork come to life! I love the subtle influences both RTs have had on their own Marazhai.

It's the first time the two Marazhai's appear with their finished post game designs which Scrib and I worked together on. Archon Marazhai should have a more regal, cleaner look, while Corsair Marazhai is covered in jewelry and trinkets with a more speedier silhouette. It was important to me that they both retain parts of the old armor to show it's still them but now further down their life paths, clearly influenced by their choices and their Rogue Traders.

And both have the skull on the side now because while it's iconic, it's also a pain to draw so now I can hide it better hahaha.

Definitely check out the new chapter! Scrib cooked once again and this time everyone is in one room. What could go wrong, right?

Chapter 4: Full edit, scenes rewritten from Marazhais POV, better emotional beats and complexity

Stray was my very first fic, the first time I tried to write anything and while I'm by no means amazing now, I'm better. At first chapter 1 to 3 were PWP, and now I've rewritten with more emotional depth and complexity, a better grasp of both character's voices, angst and some hurt/comfort. There's still smut dw, but also around 15k new words, and a lot more of Marazhai's POV.

Heinrix reached out for her hip and pulled her towards him, gazing deep into her eyes before he leaned down to kiss her. It felt different from the night before – it wasn't only desire that fuelled them right now; it was desperation and fear, their goodbye a last sign of the affection they felt. They kept on holding tight, afraid to let go and losing each other forever.

Reunited in the Dark City, Heinrix is not pleased with Isha's engagement with Marazhai. Shocked to find her wounded by the encounter, they must navigate a complicated conversation. Once reconciliation is close, the Drukhari comes in with a shocking revelation of Heinrix's complicity in Isha's abduction. But there's little time to dwell on regrets when the last stand in the arena awaits them.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered between kisses. “I’m… Isha, I didn’t want to hurt you…” “Don’t do it again.” Her breath caressed his lips. “Promise me. I just wish to reach home.” “I know, and I’ll give everything to see you safe–” “Mon-keigh affection. How you don’t tire of this disgusting display is beyond me, Rogue Trader.” The gravelly voice whipped him around, and he launched forward only to be restrained by Isha’s tightening grasp around his wrist.
