I know mermay is long over lol, but did you have any deeper AU lore about your mer drawings or were they just one-off doodles of "what if these characters were mermaids?" 🤣 Sorry I kinda tend to overthink these art and now I'm wondering how the setting works, if all the characters are mers now, if anyone are humans and how the main plot beats are different if it follows the canon storyline xD

I am always happy to talk about mermay and Star Wars 😆 no matter the time of year! I am VERY slowly working on finishing the mermaid designs, and as I work on them, I end up discovering more lore along the way. They kind of started out as one off mermay designs, but people had such great ideas about them, it has made me think about them a lot more! I don’t have a big plot or overarching story or anything, I’ve been so busy the last few months I haven’t had time to think about it as much as I’d like, it here are some ideas I have 😆.

These aren’t very cohesive, some ideas contradict others so apologies if they’re not very good! Just random thoughts I’ve had while working on this project so please take them with a grain of salt. If anyone would like to add to these, please feel free! This is such an open project with no real end goal honestly, just having a fun time with it 😁.

Story ideas:

The way I’ve been drawing them all has just been as if they are all mermaids, if I were to create a whole universe though, I’d probably set it a bit like the Little Mermaid and have certain characters be human/land dwellers and others live underwater as merpeople.

If I were doing a Little Mermaid style story, I’d maybe make the Jedi and Sith mer-people, and everyone else lives on land, since the Jedi can use The Force.

Maybe there was a time when humans and merpeople were aware of one another and lived peacefully, but perhaps there was some kind of war or inciting incident that separated them for good, now humans think that merpeople are only the stuff of legends.

Anakin is still the Chosen One who is supposed to unite the humans and merpeople once more. He would, of course, be rebellious like Ariel and become interested in the human world, much to everyone else’s frustration (particularly Obi-Wan).

Qui-Gon is also fascinated by humans and collects items, much like Ariel, he doesn’t take as many risks as Anakin though.

As a boy, Anakin rescues Queen Amidala when she’s in a shipwreck, and after that, he vows to find a way to become human and join her on land someday.

Maybe he has some kind of meeting with Padmé again when they’re adults. Padmé has vague memories of someone saving her from the shipwreck when she was younger, so she returns to that beach to try and remember everything. That’s when Anakin does something forbidden and lets Padmé see him, and she learns that *gasp* merpeople still exist! She vows to keep this to herself though because she knows how dangerous it could be for Anakin if the world learns that merpeople exist.

Ocean Palpatine (who has the ability to shift his form to exist on land and underwater because evil mer-Sith things) learns of the feelings that Padmé and Anakin are developing for one another and offers Anakin the power to go on shore and be with Padmé forever if he helps him with his plan to overthrow the Jedi.

I’m not sure where that story would go from there 😆 if he would do it in a heartbeat, or if maybe they strike up a deal where Anakin has a set amount of time to try being on land before the transformation wears off, and then he has to go back to the ocean or help Palpatine and keep his human form.

Also, side-Story where Satine is still in this universe and 100% knows that merpeople are real because when she was younger, she met Obi-Wan.

Maybe in the far future, assuming things end in a similar way to ROTS, Luke is hidden in the underwater world, raised by Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon while Leia is raised on land.

Darth Vader loses the ability to live underwater, but he can still do Force stuff, so he’s still dangerous on land.

Palpatine can still move between both worlds, but it takes a lot of energy so he tends to stay on land with Vader.

Lore/World building ideas (probably separate from the story idea I had above xD just to complicate things)

Their mermaid tails/features are determined by the kind of ocean they originate from, for example cold water or warm water fish.

Mer Anakin still hates sand. He hates dry sand more than wet sand if he’s ever up on shore for any reason because it sticks to him.

Anakin’s arm is made out of machine parts from land that ended up on the sea floor in ship wrecks.

Anakin also built Threepio out of parts that ended up on the seafloor. Don’t question how this works too much because I currently have no answers.

Someone on Instagram mentioned this, so I take no credit, but in this world, Mustafar is an underwater volcano!

Maybe the Sith live in the deepest, darkest parts of the ocean, think the Mariana Trench.

Palpatine can still use lightning underwater, maybe like an electric eel or something?

Jedi don’t have lightsabers, they have magical, glowing swords made out of sea glass. Instead of having a Kyber Crystal, there is a special underwater cave where young Jedi are tested and the sea glass itself is imbued with the power that a Kyber Crystal would provide. Once the Jedi finds the sea glass that speaks to them, they will then build their swords out of that sea glass and carve the hilts themselves.

Powerful Jedi can use the Force to influence tides.

If the entire world is underwater, then different oceans represent different planets. There are still core bodies of the ocean, as well as mid and outer bodies, much the same as the planets in the original universe.

Mandalore is still well-known for creating armour and weapons.

They still swim in the living waters, which is in a very deep cave where the Mythosaur is said to reside, but it’s only a legend 👀.

Maybe Mandalore becomes uninhabitable because the water becomes too polluted from weaponry that was used, or maybe that area dries up completely? I’m not 100% sure how that would work 😆 but just spitballing ideas!

Sorry I’ve not been super active, life has been so busy, and I’ll be busy for the next few weeks too 🥲. I recently saw the Moulin Rouge musical, having been a long time fan of the movie ♥️, and the song “Crazy Rolling” has been living rent free in my head. Parts of it give me such strong Anakin vibes that I had to do some doodles based on the lyrics 😆. So enjoy some Anakin losing his mind doodles.

Kind of want to write an Anidala Moulin Rouge AU now, even though it would suit Obitine more xD.

MORE aotc thoughts idk if this is unpopular or whatever but i don't really mind the sand line. it's kind of a weird thing to say on its own, i'll give you that, but padmé LITERALLY mentioned sand first. ok it was to talk about her family vacations but you need to remember anakin never had anything of the sort so the only common point they could use to keep the conversation going was sand (also there's the whole thing about how he grew up and his feelings on tatooine but that's a whole other post). anyway my point here is that sand was literally related to the conversation they were having and it didn't just come out of nowhere. like i know this is really petty and unnecessary and i don't really care much about defending what anakin says but at least PUT IT IN CONTEXT WHEN YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT IT.

Anywhere Else is Hollow - A Padmé Oneshot

Summary: AU where Padmé survives, this takes places the day after the birth of Luke and Leia. Padmé is left heartbroken and reeling from Anakin's betrayal, grappling with her anger, sorrow and the responsibility she now has to her newborn twins. How can she possibly carry on when everything she's ever fought for has been lost?

I’ve done it for you . To protect you . Those words jolted Padmé from her fitful sleep, and frantically, her eyes darted around, trying to find the source. The room was sterile, empty, save for a few basic articles of furniture. Through bleary eyes, she read the glowing face of the clock on the bedside table and registered that she had slept for perhaps half an hour at most.

The light that filtered in through the small window that morning felt cold in a way Padmé had never known before. Light, to her at least, had always been reassuring. After long, dark, sleepless nights consumed by worry, about her life, her future, her work, her relationship …the familiar fingers of sunlight that would creep through her window, whichever planet she was on, felt like a hand reaching out to comfort her, and remind her that while her problems seemed enormous, she could find a solution. This time though, the finger felt accusatory, pointed at her chest as if to say, you should have known .

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to share this or not in the end 🥲. I was going to give a printed version of this to Hayden Christensen at Comic Con, but he’s sadly had to cancel due to filming, which is totally fair enough, and I’m excited to see him in Ahsoka 🥰. Naturally I was a little bit heartbroken 😆 but hopefully I can still give it to him someday, if I manage to catch him at another convention. It’ll still be a fun day and I love having a chance to dress up as one of my favourite characters ☺️.

As for this piece, I wanted to create something that reflected both Anakin and Vader, since Anakin is still The Chosen One, even when he becomes Darth Vader. I drew Naboo in the background of Anakin’s side of the illustration. I could’ve drawn Tatooine since he was born there, but I wanted to draw somewhere that made him happy, and also, he experienced a new beginning by marrying Padmé on Naboo, and in AOTC, he talks about how much he thought of Naboo during one of the deleted scenes. On the Vader side, I depicted Mustafar to signify where he lost everything, and where Vader was “born” in a sense.

I’m still pleased with how this turned out! I hope you all like it too 😁.

Some more Dadakin art 😆. Headcanon that Luke can fall asleep ANYWHERE, whereas Leia FIGHTS sleep. Top right doodle was inspired by the Bluey episode “Magic Xylophone”. Bluey is such a comfort show for me, even as an adult 😆 and I can really picture Anakin being like Bandit in another timeline. There are so many Bluey inspired Skywalker doodles I could draw if I only had the time 😌.
