Inktober 2017 | Day 31 - Daubentonia madagascariensis - Happy Halloween 🎃👻 - “Due to its bizarre appearance and unusual feeding habits, the aye-aye is considered by many to be the strangest primate in the world. It is the world’s largest nocturnal primate. The main threats to the survival of the aye-aye are loss of habitat and hunting pressure. Unlike many lemur species that are hunted for food, the aye-ayes are sometimes killed as crop-threatening pests in agricultural areas, and also because their bizarre appearance has traditionally led many villagers to regard the animal as an evil omen which must be killed on sight to avoid bringing bad luck onto an entire village.” - Duke Lemur Center - - You know what to do 👉 lemur.duke.edu - - Can’t believe #inktober is already over. It’s really been a journey. I’m beyond grateful for everyone who’s been following me through this october, and I hope I’ve somehow given you more knowledge of our vulnerable world its many species. Even if it’s just a fraction of the many others that may also face extinction in the near future. Thank you! 🙏 - - - - - - - - #myart #original #art #inktober2017 #inktober17 #ink #traditional #traditionalart #fineliners #daubentoniamadagascariensis #ayeaye #theayeaye #lemurs #primates #madagascar #endangeredspecies #endangered #nature #animals #environment #important #motherearth #wildlife #iss #habitatloss #deforestation #illegalhunting

Inktober 2017 | Day 30 - Gavialis gangeticus - - "The fate of the gharial crocodile is inextricably linked to fate of people, and both depend on healthy rivers for survival. People living among the rivers where gharials still survive are farmers, pastoralists, fishermen and general laborers. Conflicts with gharials have increased in recent years as traditional fishing methods such as throw nets, hook and line and scoop nets were replaced with modern nylon gills nets, which are responsible for a significant number of gharial deaths each year. Because gharials eat fish they are often blamed for the drop in fish populations or are seen as a competition for this resource, and therefore killed." - GCA - - Do what you can to help the gharial crocodile at gharialconservationalliance.org (GCA) - - - - - - - - - #myart #original #art #inktober2017 #inktober #inktober17 #ink #traditional #traditionalart #fineliners #gavialisgangeticus #gharialcrocodile #crocodiles #india #asia #endangeredspecies #criticallyendangered #nature #animals #environment #important #motherearth #wildlife #issues #illegalkilling #conflicts #reptiles

Inktober 2017 | Day 29 - Syphyrna mokarran - - "The great hammerhead shark is a powerful, active predator which is found both inshore and in deep waters, in tropical, subtropical and temperate seas. The positioning of its eyes gives this fish a 360 degree view in the vertical plane, letting it spot and track prey both above and below its current position with great accuracy. Overfishing is the chief threat to these fascinating sharks, and is driven mostly by Asian demand for shark fin soup. Many hammerheads also die as accidental bycatch in large commercial fishing nets in the Atlantic, where the hammerhead is seldom taken for its fins. Massive illegal fishing of hammerheads occurs in the Indian Ocean and near Africa." - OEW - - Become aware of the problem and make a change at ourendangeredworld.com (OEW) - - - - - - - - #myart #original #art #inktober2017 #inktober #inktober17 #ink #traditional #traditionalart #syphyrnamokarran #hammerheadshark #greathammerheadshark #sharks #endangeredspecies #endangered #nature #animals #environment #important #motheearth #finning #illegalfishing #overfishing #wildlife #oceanlife #marinelife #marinecreatures #fish

Inktober 2017 | Day 28 - Strigops - - "The Kakapo is one of New Zealand's unique treasures with fewer than 160 known surviving birds. It is listed internationally as a critically endangered species. Early Polynesian settlers hunted Kakapo for its plumage and meat. From the 1840s, European settlers not only hunted the bird, they cleared the land and destroyed its habitat. Most devastating to Kakapo survival was the introduction of predators such as rats, cats and stoats. Today predators still remain a big threat to the Kakapo. But also disease, genetic inbreeding and infertility threatens its survival." - Department of Conservation - - Find out how you can help at doc.govt.nz - - - - - - - - #myart #original #art #inktober2017 #inktober #inktober17 #ink #traditional #traditionalart #fineliners #strigops #kakapo #nightparrot #owlparrot #newzealand #birds #endangeredspecies #criticallyendangered #nature #animals #nativebirds #environment #important #motherearth #wildlife #issues #predators #habitatloss #disease

Inktober 2017 | Day 27 - Panthera tigris amoyensis - - "Ancestor to all tigers, driven to the brink of extinction, the South China tiger struggles to recover from from various threats. There are few if any in the wild, with the last confirmed sightings over two decades ago. There are currently about 100 in captivity - most are in Chinese zoos and breeding centers. The effects of uncontrolled hunting were compounded by extensive deforestation, reduction in available and large-scale relocations of urban populations to rural locations leading to fragmentation of tiger populations." - Save China's Tigers - - See what you can do at savechinastigers.org - - - - - - - #myart #original #art #inktober2017 #inktober #inktober17 #ink #traditional #traditionalart #fineliners #pantheratigrisamoyensis #southchinatiger #tiger #bigcats #cats #asia #china #endangeredspecies #criticallyendangered #nature #animals #environment #important #motherearth #wildlife #issues #habitatloss #illegalhunting #mammals

Inktober 2017 | Day 26 - Crocodylus intermedius - - "The Orinoco crocodile is South America's largest predator. Severely fragmented populations are found in the lower reaches of the Orinoco River in Venezuela and Colombia. Orinoco crocodiles are one of the most endangered of all crocodilians and was hunted to the brink of extinction for its skin during the 1930s to 60s and the population has shown little signs of recovery since. Today there are an estimated 250 to 1,500 individuals left in the wild. Illegal hunting for meat and for teeth, along with the collection of eggs and juveniles remains the major threat to this species." - Wildscreen Arkive - - Contribute at arkive.org (The Largest Natural World Encyclopaedia Online) - - - - - - - - #myart #original #art #inktober2017 #inktober #inktober17 #ink #traditional #traditionalart #fineliners #crocodylusintermedius #orinococrocodile #crocodile #southamerica #venezuela #colombia #endangeredspecies #criticallyendangered #nature #animals #environment #important #motherearth #wildlife #issues #habitatloss #illegalhunting #reptiles

Inktober 2017 | Day 25 - Equus ferus przewalskii - - "Przewalski's horses, critically endangered horses found in Mongolia, are the last truly wild horse. Przewalski's horses once ranged throughout Europe and Asia. Competition with man and livestock, as well as changes in the environment, led to the horse moving east to Asia, and eventually becoming extinct in the wild. Today they can only be found in reintroduction sites in Mongolia, China and Kazakhstan." - Smithsonian's National Zoo - - Become part of the conservation work at nationalzoo.si.edu - - - - - - - - #myart #original #art #inktober2017 #inktober #inktober17 #ink #traditional #traditionalart #fineliners #equusferusprzewalskii #przewalskishorse #wildhorses #asia #mongolia #endangeredspecies #endangered #nature #animals #environment #important #motherearth #wildlife #issues #habitatloss #illegalhunting #mammals

Inktober 2017 | Day 24 - Eretmochelys imbricata - - "Considered by many to be the most beautiful of sea turtles for their colorful shells, the hawksbill turtle is found in tropical waters around the world. Their population has declined more than 80% in the last century, primarily due to the trade in their beautiful carapace (shell). Its carapace, brightly colored with intricate designs, is traded internationally for ornamental purposes. Other threats include destruction of nesting and feeding habitat, pollution, boat strikes, coastal development, entanglement in fishing gear and destructive fishing practices like dynamite fishing." - SEE Turtles - - Sign the pledge to help save hawksbills at seeturtles.org - - - - - - #myart #original #art #inktober2017 #inktober #inktober17 #ink #traditional #traditionalart #fineliners #eretmochelysimbricata #hawksbillturtle #hawksbill #turtle #seacreatures #oceanlife #marinelife #marinecreatures #endangeredspecies #criticallyendangered #nature #animals #environment #important #motherearth #wildlife #issues #illegaltrade #pollution #habitatloss

Inktober 2017 | Day 23 - Camelus ferus - - "One of the strangest-looking land animals of our era, the Bactrian camel is a large ungulate (hoofed mammal) located in the Central Asian deserts. Habitat loss and competition with livestock for sharply limited resources are major hazards facing surviving wild populations of Bactrian camels today. Global warming is also threatening wild Bactrian camels by making weather more extreme and lessening the number of oases in their natural range. This makes death by dehydration - or between the fangs of wolves hunting weak, thirsty camels - much more likely." - OEW - - Become a part of the work to conserve the Bactrian Camel at ourendangeredworld.com (OEW) - - - - - - - - #myart #original #art #inktober2017 #inktober #inktober17 #ink #traditional #traditionalart #fineliners #camelusferus #bactriancamel #camels #hoofedmammals #ungulate #asia #deserts #desertanimals #endangeredspecies #criticallyendangered #nature #animals #environment #important #motherearth #wildlife #issues #globalwarming #habitatloss

Inktober 2017 | Day 22 - Pithecophaga jefferyi - - "The Philippine eagle is one of the largest eagles in the world. Endemic to the Philippines, the species is critically endangered, with over half the remaining nesting pairs found in unprotected forest on Mindanao Island. Despite being heralded as the country's national bird, the Philippine eagle is threatened by destruction of nesting sites as a result of deforestation, accidental capture in traps set for wild pigs and illegal hunting by farmers in retaliation to predation of domestic animals and livestock." - WFN - - Prevent further decline of the Philippine eagle at whitleyaward.org (WFN - whitley fund for nature) - - - - - - - - #myart #original #art #inktober2017 #inktober #inktober17 #ink #traditional #traditionalart #fineliners #pithecophagajefferyi #philippineeagle #eagle #birds #asia #philippines #endangeredspecies #criticallyendangered #nature #animals #environment #important #motherearth #wildlife #issues #illegalhunting #deforestation

Inktober 2017 | Day 21 - Tapirus indicus - - "The Malayan tapir is the largest of the four species of tapir, and it's the only one located in Asia. Habitat destruction and fragmentation is the primary threat to their survival. Large scale deforestation, including illegal logging for timber, is a major source of habitat loss. The growth of palm oil plantations is also a major factor in habitat loss. Hunting is also on the rise as other large" prey" species in the area are reduced in number." - Tapir Specialist Group - - Educate yourself at tapirs.org - - - - - - - #myart #original #art #inktober2017 #inktober #inktober17 #ink #traditional #traditionalart #fineliners #tapirusindicus #malayantapir #tapir #asia #endangeredspecies #endangered #nature #animals #mammals #forestcreatures #environment #important #motherearth #wildlife #issues #illegallogging #hunting #palmoilplantations #deforestation

Inktober 2017 | Day 19 - Conolophus marthae - - "Only recently described as a separate species, the Galápagos pink land iguana is now on the brink of extinction. There are only 200 left, making them one of the most vulnerable species in Galápagos. Threats include invasive rats and feral cats present in the range of the pink iguana which means that predation on eggs and young is likely. Inktober 2017 | Day 18 - Manis javanica - - "Pangolins are unique in that they are the world's only scaly mammals. They can be found in Asia and in Africa. Pangolins are declining throughout their range due to increasing demand for their meat, their scales and other body parts. This is driving unsustainable levels of poaching and illegal trade. As a result, pangolins are now widely regarded to be the world's most trafficked wild mammals with more than one million estimated to have been snatched from the wild in the past decade. A total ban on commercial trade in all eight species of pangolins was introduced on 2017 but significant illegal trade is still occurring." - ZSL - - Help protect wildlife around the world at zsl.org (The Zoological Society of London) - - - - - - #myart #original #art #inktober2017 #inktober #inktober17 #ink #traditional #traditionalart #fineliners #manisjavanica #sundapangolin #pangolin #asia #africa #endangeredspecies #criticallyendangered #nature #animals #mammals #environment #important #motherearth #wildlife #issues #illegalwildlifetrade

Inktober 2017 | Day 16 - Pteronura brasiliensis - - "It is estimated that between 1,000 and 5,000 Giant Brazilian Otters remain in the wild. Giant Brazilian Otters are protected throughout their distribution, but still suffer many threats. Humans are the largest threat and hunt Giant Brazilian Otters illegally for their fur and meat, or capture them alive for the pet trade. It is thought that habitat destruction followed by humans moving into their habitat, has the potential to reduce Giant Brazilian Otter population by 50 percent over the next 20 years." - WLT - - Discover and learn more at worldlandtrust.org (WLT) - - - - - - #myart #original #art #inktober2017 #inktober #inktober17 #ink #traditional #traditionalart #fineliners #pteronurabrasiliensis #giantbrazilianotter #giantotter #amazon #brazil #rainforest #endangeredspecies #endangered #nature #animals #mammals #environment #important #motherearth #wildlife #issues #illegalhunting #habitatloss
