A world with one culture is a world with less places to be from. When we take seriously the idea that some languages are “prestigious” and others are a “waste of time,” we allow a worldview where only people who were born certain places have something to say.

Isn't it fucking insane that so many people think that IQs are real. Like people genuinely believe you are born with one set level of intelligence that can be measured on a scale from 1 to ~200. As if intelligence wasn't extremely nuanced and completely subjective. And the fact that the majority of scientists that have advocated for IQ tests in the past have been eugenicists doesn't seem to concern anyone either

David Wong (the novel character, not Jason Pargin) is a trans lesbian. Sexually assaulted by bullies for being the "weird kid." Views himself as ontologically predatory and corrupt. Extradimensional monster. Drinks mountain dew code red. It's undeniable

My 58 year old boss texts and emails like a boomer (of course) but I think she's aware that her tone doesn't come across well electronically, so she just brute forces the matter and it's kind of sweet and really funny
just got a message that says 'Will you please lock and submit your timecard? You are appreciated.'
#the thing is she's really good at communicating in person like she can ask you to do something and you don't take it as a personal attack#labor#thank you nadine for telling corporate to shove it up their ass on our behalf#maniacal rambling#boomer linguistics

the insane experience of missing a fictional character . like you can always go back and reread the book , replay the game , rewatch the show or movie , you can always go back & see them , but you can never experience them & their story for the first time again . its absurd to miss them because they'll always be there , but you'll miss when there were still new things for them to say .
for a small time they were real & growing and changing and you hung onto every new word, but now all they can do is repeat the same story forever&ever & they're not real anymore because you know everything they're going to do. & you miss them. its fucked man...
#unfortunately this is how i feel abt Kvothe#his storytelling style is very personable too so it feels like I'm listening to a friend#it's also painful because the second book ends with 'anyways I'll pick this back up tomorrow' and then it's been like 15 years

1 on 1 teaching is fuckin crazy. I have to take notes on what we covered in each session and how it went, and I never know whether I should actually write 'today my extremely autistic catholic student asked me if Hermes was real (you know, like Jesus) and I spent most of the class navigating that situation'
#autistic catholicism#catholic autism#finally getting to use my rlst degree i guess#maniacal rambling#teacherposting

"even if it has 10,000 notes?"
ppl on Tumblr can't read for shit, if a crazy political take has 10,000 notes then half the ppl who reblogged it with 100% conviction thought it said something different, and the rest of it's just a bunch of weirdos with equally-unique politics arguing about shit that probably wasn't in the original post
Tumblr is a comforting place in this political climate. Cuz like when I see a crazy political take I disagree w/ on twitter or tiktok it has six bajillion likes and I'm seeing it because it's just a part of the momentum of fascism writ large and it's going to reach even more people
but when I see a dogshit take here on Tumblr I'm like "wow I found one of the five people who thinks this" and I let it pass over me like clouds through the open sky

if u are ever stuck in a story u need to remembr that a piece of paper is quite generously proportioned in the x and y directions. so if you tryto escape a story by living it youll keep going and going a long time and never make it out. but in the z direction it is tightly limkted. so you simply need to stack stories on stories on stories until the page bursts and you r free. scheherazade knew this

Yeah John Green isn't perfect, but he has values, he generally tries to listen to other people with empathy, he freely admits that there are plenty of things he doesn't know anything about (despite being an extraordinarily prolific public educator) and- by virtue of what he's done w/ his community -he has a really good idea of what kinds of activism and action can make a tangible, actual difference
Like, if every influencer who wanted to change the world for the better picked an issue, learned a whole lot about it, earnestly involved themselves in pan-partisan communities trying to solve the problem...we would have a much better world
John Green may be a little "cringe" but credit where credit is due at least he's a YA author who made his special interest trying to expand tuberculosis care instead of trying to make a living hell for trans women and other LGBTQ+s

Heyya, I'm Jay! Identity is incomprehensible so for now let's say I'm here, I'm queer, and I come from a dimension where having a random assortment of weird skills and having zero executive function to tie any of it together is actually really cool and also useful
I occasionally post memes, insightful commentary, stupid bullshit, and specific complaints about the following topics:
writing (especially fantasy; especially urban fantasy)
worldbuilding
politics/activism/history
magic
being from the san francisco bay area
religions
being queer
information and misinformation
the metanarrative implications
media literacy
the surreal experience of being an english and history teacher for queer neurodivergent high schoolers in the United States of America
unreality
I had a moderately successful youtube channel that I still tell myself I'll revive one day. I was good at art for half an hour once in like 2021. Sometimes I voice act! I have probably an average amount of irrational biases and a less than average amount of gall bladders; I contain multitudes.
original posts or posts that I've added sufficiently to will be tagged #maniacal rambling; original posts that don't deserve that distinction will be tagged #maniacal shitpost. Posts about being a teacher will be under #teachercore. I also tag unreality posts and nsft posts when I remember to
I love making friends and chatting w/ people so feel free to message or send me asks!
If you're still reading here is a picture of my car, The Scallawagon. It's older than I am and my most identifiable object

#maniacal rambling#intro post#teachercore#maniacal shitposting#metanarrative#the scallawagon#the front bumper is supposed to say kachow but it got into an epic battle with a parked car while my tumblr mutual was driving it
