Swallow Masterlist

Since he was fifteen years old, Bucky Barnes has only been sure of two things; the club should be the most essential thing in his life, and heâd burn it all down for you. Â
Youâre the only thing in this world that matters, and heâll do whatever it takes to win you back, even if that means destroying everything he built. None of it mattered without you
Swallows choose a mate for life, and will only nest with that bird and no other; they travel long distances apart only to find their way to back to each other, again and again. Bucky knew the second he met you.Â
Youâre his other half; youâre his swallow.

DANCING WITH MYSELF
â PART EIGHT
summary: eddie crashes senior prom hoping to steal a dance with his dream girl, chrissy cunningham. instead, he spends the night stuck in the ladiesâ room with her snarky, insecure best friend. â pairing: eddie munson x fem!reader â word count: 5,641 â genre: fluff with some angst â warnings: no season 4 spoilers, some coarse language, me knowing nothing about d&d, mentions of eating disorders, body image issues, teenage insecurities, angst, jealousy, happy ending, lots of 80s music, me reliving my school dance trauma, yeah this is complete self-insert and iâm not at all ashamed of it + playlist + one | two | three | four | five | six | seven | eight masterlist | taglist Â
Back in the dance hall, Chrissy Cunningham was sitting alone at the table and picking teal nail polish off her fingernails while âTrueâ by Spandau Ballet floated dreamily down from the speakers.Â
⌠except it wasnât a dream anymore, was it?Â
Chrissy had been shaken awake and now she was seeing her world with brand new eyes, and she didnât like what she saw, not at all. She was disenchanted by it. Disgusted by it. She wanted to tear it all down and burn it to the ground. Those vines crawling up the pillar? Nothing but cheap polyester leaves on wire stems. How could she ever think they were real? They were as fake as the roses on her table. As fake as the rhinestone tiara that would eventually sit on her head. And Chrissy would stand on that stage in the middle of this pretty plastic world, and she would smile her fake smile and wave at a crowd of happy faces, and she would wonder if any of them actually saw her.Â
Saw her like you did.Â

when he loved me- e.m
Pairing: Eddie Munson x Reader
Summary: the one where you feel eddie begin to pull away from you
Warnings: ANGST, falling out of love, misunderstanding, hurt, eddie being a total sweetie at the end, fluffy & cheesy ending
Request: No
Word Count: 3.6k
A/N: inspired by the song âwhen she loved meâ from toy story 2 because i swear every time i listen to my sad sava playlist and that one comes on iâm a fucking bawling mess and thought it could be a cool fic with a twist at the end. bennyâs and star court still exist so it isnât canon but fanfic doesnât have to be. also, this fic is set in the winter of 85â and leading into the early days of â86. one last thing, reader may be a junior but sheâs around steveâs age, just for clarification :) enjoy! -sava
Part of you knew this day would come sooner or later, not realizing you got caught up in the grand scheme of the feelings of young love until it slowly starting inching out of your life. The fleeting feeling of dissipating love stretching you thinner and thinner, now becoming a shriveled lump standing the the corner of the parking lot of Hawkins High.Â
The school bell had just rung and the swarm of students began flowing into the parking lot, ready to celebrate the next two weeks off of school for the holiday break and come back to a fresh year and a fresh semester of classes. Laughter and screams of joy fill the lot as your peers say their goodbyes for the time being, the promises catching up at the annual holiday party held by Jason Carver lingering in the cool Indiana wind.Â
Youâre body stays motionless as you watch cars fly past you out of the lot, a familiar lanky metalhead slinking along to his van catching your eye before you turn on your heel. His face is full of happiness as he opens the driver door with no hesitation. Not even a glance around the paved lot in search of you, something that used to be so common place between you two.
The resident âfreakâ of Hawkins became your boyfriend at the beginning of the previous school year, with the start of his second attempt at a senior year and your only attempt at a junior year. He practically swept you off your feet with his naturally seductive charm paired with his eccentric and carefree personality. You were instantly hooked on the drug that was one Eddie Munson.
Days spent together laughing and exploring with one another quickly turned into relaxing evenings full of cigarette smoke and lazy makeout sessions on his bed in his uncleâs trailer, the two of you growing fond of one another quite fast and letting the thrill of teenage love keep you up at night. He invaded your mind like a sick plague, tossing and turning in your bed at night dreaming of Eddie and what the two of you would do the next time youâd meet up. It was an unhealthy obsession that made your heart flutter and love seep deep into your bones.
Which is why the last few weeks of quick glances and unspoken tension left you feeling queasy.Â
Weekly Saturday date nights had become less and less frequent, between being stood up at Bennyâs Diner and the movie theater at Starcourt, or just a quick last minute cancellation phones call began to make your mind race. Part of you wanted to push any doubts you had down and just ask your boyfriend why he was being so flaky, but itâs hard to talk to someone who wonât hardly even look at you.Â
Conversations begun dwindling fast, and the lingering touches the two of you shared between classes and at lunch stopped all together. You werenât sure if you had somehow managed to piss the metalhead off, but even the boys of Hellfire were beginning to pick up on his strange behavior. They attempted to reassure you that there was nothing you did wrong, but whenever you would try milking any kind of explanation out of them, the group would fall silent or quickly change topics, either keeping you out of the loop or also being as clueless as you were, you werenât sure.
Your Friday nights spent at Hellfire had stopped as of last week, not really feeling up for sitting in a silent room aside from the instructions from your Dungeon Master with so much tension in the air you couldnât even cut it with a knife. The cafeteria where you shared many memories at your favorite table surrounded by your favorite people became a sickening sight, opting to eat the little food you packed for a lunch in the sanctuary of the school library, thanks to the kindness of the librarian youâd befriended recently.Â
The squeaking sound of the tires attached to his van pulls you back to reality momentarily, watching as he exits the lot and leaving you in the dust. With a sigh, you turn on your heel and head in the opposite direction, beginning the trek back to your own home on the opposite side of town from Eddieâs trailer.
The rational part of your brain was telling you to run back and try to catch the bus, knowing the cool wind nipping at your sensitive skin would most likely give you a cold if you kept walking. But you were at the point in your life where you just didnât care. With the school break starting, you could take the next two weeks to retreat in the comfort of your bed and put on the best Oscar-winning acting performance of your life when your family arrived in town within the coming days, pretending that you werenât a miserable ball of constant anxiety as you kept waiting for the time to come for Eddie to finally approach you again, only to break things off officially.
You knew he had big dreams ahead of him. Tuesday nights at the Hideout were beginning to draw in more of a crowd from surrounding towns, with a record deal or agent coming to scoop them up in just a matter of moments. He would leave this town and never look back, only the occasional visit to see his uncle who has treated him right since day one.
And you? Youâd go off to college somewhere, despite wanting to drop everything and follow him on the road to fame and success. Applications went out in a few different directions all over the country, you were just waiting for one of them to bite back and accept you with open arms. The dread you used to feel about leaving for college has slowly started to become an after thought, knowing itâll be much easier to say goodbye and start fresh with the way things were looking between you and your boyfriend. The pain wouldnât be as unbearable as the day heâd cut the last remaining thread that was clinging to the both of you, keeping this relationship tethered together.
After a little over an hour of walking, you pull open the front door of your house and immediately relish in the warmth surrounding you. Kicking off your converse, you climb your way up the stairs and walk into your bedroom, shutting the door behind you and throwing your backpack down on the floor with a thud. Your body was still shivering from the long journey back from school, prompting you to immediately jump in your bed and bundle up in your nest of blankets.
Just as you felt yourself finally getting comfortable and the shivers coming to a halt, you hear the phone seated on your nightstand ring. With a groan, you lift one of your arms out of the cocoon you made for yourself and pick up the bright yellow phone, holding it up to your hear with a huff and mumbling a quick âhelloâ.
âY/N, hey, itâs Dustin. I was wondering if you and Eddie could give me a ride to Hellfire tonight? I tried calling Eddie but he wonât pick up, so I assumed that maybe you both hanging out at your house,â the curly haired freshman questions you. You let out a soft sigh and turn on your side, getting a better position closer to the tethered phone.
âYeah, Eddieâs not here. But um, Iâm not going to Hellfire tonight. I would suggest trying Eddie again or asking Mike,â you answer.
âWhat? But you missed last week already! You know Eddie is strict on attendance within the party-â
Dustin was a sweet kind who always meant well, it was a fact you were quick to pick up on when the school year started and Eddie roped them into the club, claiming they were just lost sheep who needed a proper home, which is very true. But the boy also wasnât the best with boundaries, and you werenât too thrilled about his insistence on the attendance policy Eddie set in place.
âYeah well I really donât give a shit what Eddie thinks at the moment,â you snap. Thereâs a long pause, the silence over the line making you want to bang your head against the wall for having an attitude with the young member. âShit-Iâm sorry Dustin, I didnât mean to snap towards you.â
âItâs alrightâŚbut is there something going on with you and Eddie? The other members and I have noticed your absence at lunch and how weird things have been. I just want to make sure youâre okay,â he explains to you, raising your spirits a tiny bit.
âI honestly donât know whatâs going on, I wish I had a better answer for you. But you donât have to worry about me Dustin, Iâll be fine. Whatever the outcome may be,â you tell him, the last sentence coming out much softer than the others.
âOkay, just making sure.â
âThanks kid. I hope you find a ride, have fun,â you say, and quickly put the phone back on the console, a sharp âdingâ echoing in the room. You throw your head back against your pillow and stare at the ceiling for a good few minutes before closing your eyes and letting sleep overtake your consciousness.Â
âââââââââââââââââââââââââââââââ
A soft sudden tap against the window coaxes you awake, blinking a few times in your current spot before sitting up right in your comfy bed and directing your attention to the noise. You feel as if your eyes are deceiving you as you watch your metalhead boyfriend knocking against the glass, his feet perched on the roof that sat outside your window.
You felt your stomach drop as you continued to look at him, a lump quickly forming in your throat as you throw the covers off your tired body and begin making your way towards the window.
The day youâd been dreading was finally happening.Â
Eddie Munson was here to finally cut the remaining ties that held your relationship together. He was here to kick you out of Hellfire and break your heart, all in one fell swoop.Â
You pause for a moment and direct yourself towards the side table you kept by your door, all the important things you always needed before leaving the house finding a home on the surface. You pull out a box on the lower level of the table, the collection of Eddieâs things you kept at your house all in one convenient location. Heâd probably be wanting this back right about now, considering some of his favorite band t-shirts and a few signature jewelry pieces resided in the cardboard box.
Walking back to the window with the box in hand, you set it on your desk and undo the latches of your window, sliding the inner portion up and feeling the cool air meet your skin once more.
âHi,â he lets out, a smile situated on his face as his hot breath collides with the cold Hawkins air. Youâre quick to cross your arms, feeling as if you need to retreat in yourself and look towards your feet rather than meeting his gaze.
âHi,â you muster out.
âYou gonna let me in? I might just freeze to death out here baby,â he asks you, his big brown eyes widening into a puppy dog gaze when you look up at him.
âProbably not the best idea, you donât plan on even being here that long, do you?â you question. His eyebrows furrow at your words, his nose scrunching ever so slightly as the silence is quick to fall between the two of you, but he quickly shakes out of the negative expression.
âWell Henderson told me you werenât feeling up for the meeting tonight, and thought maybe I should come and check on you since youâve now missed two meetings back to back. Is everything okay?â He asks, repositioning himself a little.
Damn Dustin with his lack of boundaries. You might just end up hurting the kid. But not before you hurt the man in front of you. Is everything okay, is he fucking serious right now? You truly couldnât comprehend what was going through his mind. Was he being purposefully obtuse or did he really not notice you over the past few weeks?
âAre you actually ser-never mind,â you let out a harsh sigh and turn away from him for a brief moment, grabbing the box of his things and shoving it in his hands. âI assume this is the real reason youâre here, right?â
âBaby, Christmas isnât for another couple of days, Iâm not ready for the gift exchange,â he tells you, trying to hand the box back to you, but you hold your hand out to stop him.
âThis isnât a Christmas gift. Itâs all the stuff youâve left at my place over the past year and some months,â you explain to him.Â
âOkay now Iâm lost sweetheart. Can I please come inside though? So we can properly talk?â Eddie asks, trying to step through the threshold of your bedroom window but youâre quick to stop his actions once more.
âEddie just stop, please! I really donât want to be broken up with in the comfort of my own home,â you blurt out. His features go from confused to sad in a matter of seconds, looking like a kicked puppy who was left on the side of the road.
You bring your hands up to your head and begin massaging your temples, the frustration building inside you beginning to effect the areas of your body most vulnerable to stress. You really werenât in the mood to have this discussion right now. Frankly, youâd never be ready for this discussion, but you knew it had to happen at some point.
âYou think Iâm breaking up with you?â
âEddie you cannot be fucking serious right now. Why else would you start pulling away from me? Cancelling dates, stoping giving me rides to school, ignoring my fucking existence? I know when someone is falling out of love with another, Iâve seen it happen to Steve when he and Nancy were dating,â you explain to him.Â
Without hesitation, he tosses the box of his things up on your desk and pulls himself inside your room, much to your protest. He stalks over you and crouches down, trying to meet your gaze as your eyes find purchase on the floor again.
âBaby, can you please look at me? I donât want to break up with you, not ever in a million years,â his voice soft as he reaches for your chin. You pull away and turn your back towards him, Eddie throwing his hands up in a surrender pose that you see in your floor length mirror. He lets out a defeated sigh and runs his hands through his hair, worry etched across his face.
He began to pace around your small bedroom, muttering incoherent sentences under his breath as he bites at his fingernails, something he swore he never did unless it was the only possible thing that could sooth his frayed nerves, turning to weed or a cigarette instead. But he knew you couldnât have the lingering smell of nicotine or the wretched marijuana smell in your home, your parents might actually kill you.
âFuck itâ Eddie thought, stopping in his tracks and turning his attention towards you. You watch from the mirror as his body disappears behind you. Your brows twist in confusion as you turn around to see what in the world he could possibly be doing, only to be met with his figure kneeling before you, one leg resting against the plush carpet of your room while the other knee pressed firmly into it, his fingers fumbling through the pockets of his vest and jacket before pulling out a small black velvet box.
âOh my god, Eddie what are you doing-â
âThis,â he opens the small box and presents you with a diamond ring seated between two satin cushions, the color similar to the box itself. The ring had a simple stone attached to a plain band, the diamond cut into the shape of a heart and measuring in at a quarter of a carat, but beautiful nonetheless. âThis is why Iâve been acting do dodgy.â
Your hands fly to your mouth, covering the gasp you let out as you took in the image before you, the beautiful ring and the soft vulnerable expression resting on Eddieâs face. You shake your head as you feel tears begin to prick at your eyes, truly and utterly shocked by his actions.
âEddie you totally suck at proposing!â You exclaim, removing your hands from your mouth and letting out a sigh, your hands running through your hair in frustration.
âThis isnât how I planned on asking you! I had this whole thing planned and then you started saying shit about breaking up today and I panicked!â He matches your energy, standing from his position. Your eyes meet his and another sigh slips past your lips. âI had this reservation at Enzoâs for literally tomorrow, and w-we were gonna go to Skull Rock, where we had our first date! And I was gonna do it there, I promise this was not in the plan.â
âEddie, how did you even afford this? A beautiful ring and a dinner at Enzoâs? Baby that place is expensive,â you interrogate, willing yourself to rest for a moment and plop down on your bed. Eddie stands before you, the tiny box still open in his hand, ring staring directly at you.
âThatâs one of the reasonâs Iâve been so dodgy too. See, to afford this amazing ring for my beautiful girlfriend, hopefully turned fiancĂŠ, I picked up some extra dealing jobs and even found some side jobs over the course of the past few weeks. Weâre talking actual manual labor, sweetheart,â he explains to you, bouncing down to look at your face, with his feet resting on the ground. You meet his gaze through your lashes, a pout pressed upon your lips.
âI picked this baby up today and the reservations at Enzoâs were made a week ago. I promise baby, youâre it for me. I-I know weâre young and not even out of high school yet, but I need you in my life forever, I love you so much. Iâm sorry I acted like an ass with neglecting you, but you know I canât keep anything from you! Our relationship is an open book and if I spent too much time around you, Iâd spill the beans and the whole plan wouldâve been ruined.â
âYou really mean all that?â You ask him. He grabs hold of your chin lightly and tilts it, getting a better look at your sad eyes.Â
âEvery fuckinâ word, sweetheart,â he promises, leaning forward and capturing your lips with his soft ones. Without a second thought, you melt into his touch, bringing your hand to his cheek and resting it on the delicate skin as you deepen the kiss. Tearing yourself away quick, the pout you had earlier quickly makes another appearance, your brows twisting in a bit of anger.
The lingering sense of guilt began washing over you, embarrassment quickly following at the realization of the misunderstanding settling in. Part of you did feel bad, especially seeing the reaction Eddie had when you tried giving him his stuff back, as if heâs been punched in the gut, like he did in the school parking lot at the beginning of the school year when Jason Carver inserted himself in your business, where he definitely didnât belong.
But another part of you kept telling yourself that you had no idea. When someone acts standoffish and neglectful like Eddie had been, what else were you supposed to think? It wasnât like the two of you could talk about the situation, because he wouldnât reach out to you anymore. Even the Hellfire boys didnât know what was going on. You thought, now knowing the circumstances of his odd behavior, he wouldâve confided in Jeff or Gareth, but no. He kept everyone in the dark, at least from what you thought.
âYou really did hurt me, you know?âÂ
âI know baby, and I regret treating you so badly. I will do whatever you want me to in order to make it up to you and show you that I. Love. You,â he tells you, peppering kisses all over your face, a giggle escaping your mouth.
You take his hands in yours and stand to your feet, bringing him up with you. The two of you stare at one another, foreheads pressed together and basking in each otherâs presence under the soft moonlight that creeped through the open window.
âIâm not accepting, just to let you know,â you announce. Eddie pulls away from you, his happy, blissful demeanor quickly fading with a frown slapping across his face and his eyes growing as wide as dinner plates.
âW-wait, what-â you bring a finger to his lips, shutting him up.
âLet me speak Munson. I want you to actually ask me, just like you had planned. My answer will come to you tomorrow,â you tell him, closing the box with a snap and looking at him with soft eyes. His features twist back to what they were, the grin creeping along his lips forming the cute dimples on his cheeks you so desperately loved.
âPlus it gives me time tomorrow to go find a nice outfit and get my nails done.â

âWhy the hell would you say something like that?â
Eddie Munson x reader
summary: instead of the shitty ending we got, heâs gonna live in this fic. youâre welcome<3
warnings: mentions of blood and injuries, crying, trauma, major angst and fluff, language.
a/n: writing is something that is so fun and spectacular. you can create and imagine anything you please. so for me, eddie lives on! and Iâm going to continue to dream and write about him! you were a hero eddie, it was your year. thank you for making my life brighter. we love you big boyâ¤ď¸
âJust promise- promise me y-you wonât lose your- yourself, okay? You have to- live. You have to live, y/n.â
âShut up! Stop talking like that! Youâre going to be fine, Eddie!â
Dustin squeezed your right hand, the slow beeping of Eddieâs bedside vitals being the only thing heard. The room was crowded, everyone slumped in seats, Steve and Robin crouched on the floor. Everyone had tears going down their faces, but you couldnât shed any.
âWe have to get him to a hospital! Dustin- Dustin help me! Steve! Whereâs Steve we need him!â
Living in Hawkins was not easy, it never was. You always bounced back, though, whatever the menace that decided to curse the town that season. But this, vecna, everything. It was different this time, and not just for you. Your eyes were glued to the floor, your lips parted as you breathed. There was a feeling in your body that you didnât understand, a heaviness in your heart.
You were completely traumatized. Youâd never seen so much blood, his wounds ripped open from violet claw and teeth marks. His beautiful, shiny white teeth had been stained red. You couldnât get his face out of your head, smiling up at you from your lap.
âI love you so- so much. You- youâre so beautiful.â
âDustin, help me carry him! Come on, Eddie, youâre gonna be okay! Shh, itâs alright.â
Violent coughs had smacked you in the face, his mouth spewing blood that made you sob. It had all happened so fast, as cliche as it sounded. You kept replaying every moment in your head, thinking maybe, if you pinched yourself hard enough, youâd wake up from the dream you were having.
He had screamed in pain as you and dustin dragged him to the doorway to your world, and you cried and cried, apologizing profusely. But, you had been running on adrenaline, both you and Dustin, and it made carrying him easier.
No one had spoke for nearly an hour, and despite the glum faces, there was reason to celebrate. Eleven had defeated Vecna. Joyce and Hopper were back. Hopper was alive. Max was hurt with several injuries, but she would be okay. Her and Lucas would be okay. You glanced over to Mike and Eleven, where she rested her head on his shoulder. God, everyone had gotten so much older.
And despite all this happiness, Hawkinsâs victory, Elevenâs victory, you couldnât stop thinking about it.
âIâm not g-going to make it, y/n. put m-me down, you canât carry me. dustin make her-â
âNo, Iâm not leaving you here, dammit! I wonât! Weâre almost there, Edâs, just hang on, honey.â
You had physically exhausted yourself with your strength, Dustin too. You gulped, your eyes going up to his bed. He looked so pale, so cold. His hair was wet and matted with his blood. The nurse had cleaned him some, but it didnât help much. He was going to be fine, the doctor said, and it was all because you had gotten him to the hospital just in time. He was near bled out when you had arrived. But you wouldnât believe it until you seen his opened his, his pink lips curling into a smile.
And it wasnât like you were trying to take away the spotlight from everyone, but they hadnât seen it, besides Dustin, who still clung tightly to your hand. They didnât hear his screams, how terrified he looked despite his smile. Their hearts didnât break, yours did. Eddie was still alive, yes. Your best friend, your lover, and it was the greatest gift god had ever given you, but your heart was shattered by agonizing trauma.
âYou hungry?â Dustinâs voice dragged you away from your thoughts, and you blinked tiredly as you turned your head to look at him.
The poor kid was exhausted, and you seen the look on his face that yours held. No one elseâs had it, just you two. You shook your head. Eating was the last thing you wanted. âNo.â You whispered.
âMe neither.â He sighed, looking at his friends. âYou think Eddie will need anything from the trailer?â He spoke to everyone, gaining their attention. âI mean, heâs going to be here for a while.â
âI could go,â Nancy spoke up, her bushy hair wild and bright with crimson colors. âWhat should I bring, y/n?â
The attention was on you then, and you pushed out a squeaky breath. âI, uh-â You looked over at Eddie, your sweet, sweet boy. You blinked tiredly, a lump building in your throat.
Dustinâs eyes bore into yours, and he patted your knee, letting go. âIâll go with you, Nance. I know what heâll want.â
It wasnât till a half hour later, did Eddie make his sign of life. The room was dead quiet, and you heard it, that little whine that was undeniably his. Everyoneâs eyes snapped up to him, and you sat up, your breath in your throat.
âEddie?â Mike shot up, going to his side. âEddie, can you hear us? Itâs me, Mike!â
You stopped breathing, your fingers squeezing the arm wrests as everyone watched with anticipation. Another groan, a twitch of his arm, and then- âWheeler?â
Everyone cheered at the sound of his cracked, hoarse voice, going to his side. You watched as his eyes peeled open, those beautiful brown eyes that you loved so much. You seen how quickly life replenished in his face, the color already coming back to him, and Steve helped him in a comfortable sitting position.
But you couldnât get up and run to him. You couldnât cheer along like they did. You felt like fainting, truthfully. Your face contorted into tears, your body hunching over as your hands covered your face, your elbows resting on your knees. The relief you felt was too overwhelming for you to do anything else, so you just sat there and cried.
âWhere is she? My girl?â Eddie beamed, looking up at everyoneâs faces. âY/n, is she here-" He was interrupted by a sob, your sob, and everyone quickly followed the sound. He cocked his head to see around everyone, and then, he saw you. You were in the corner of the room, your hands covering your face, and you were unapologetically sobbing to yourself.
His bright eyes creased at your figure, and he awkwardly tried to set up, biting his lip as a sharp pain went through his stomach. Robin was the first to read the room, and she softly patted Steveâs shoulder, and the quietly ushered everyone out of the room.
âY/n?â He smiled softly, his voice full of love. He wanted to see your face so badly. You kept crying though, steadily in your hands as you listened to his voice.
âYou gonna look at me, sweetheart?â
You sniffled loudly, your hands shaking as you peeled them away from your face. His eyes softened even more at you. You looked at the ground for a few more seconds, and then you batted your eyes up to him. Your heart soared at his beautiful face.
âHey, you,â He said playfully, tilting his head. He wasnât clueless to realize you were crying tears of joy, even though there was much more to it.
You could only look at him, your chest heaving as tears fell down your face. You felt on the verge of a panic attack.
âYou know,â He raised his brows. âIf you really wanted me gone, you could of pulled the plug.â He chuckled, teasing as he nodded to the electrical wires around him.
You choked on a sob, turning to face the window as you shook your head. âWhy the hell would you say something like that?â
His smile dropped at the sound of your voice. It wasnât just tears of joy, you sounded legitimately upset. Your voice was about as hoarse and cracked as his was, and he noticed the tear tracks that fell down your neck. âSorry, I shouldnât of said that.â He licked his lips, frowning when you didnât look any better. âHey- hey, honey, come here.â He rushed smoothly, wincing as he sat up.
You obeyed blindly, sniffling and whimpering as you shuffled to his bed. You stilled right beside him, and he looked up at you. âYou can touch me, you know,â He said slowly, acting as if you were a baby deer. âI wonât disappear, kiddo,â He chuckled, reaching out to brush his hand against your arm.
The touch was enough to melt you. You nearly fell atop of him, your face burying itself in his chest, your arms wrapping around his shoulders, knees smacking against the floor.
âWhoa, hey,â He wrapped his arms around you. âItâs okay, Iâm here, baby.â His muscles aches and spasmed at the weight of you, but he held you tightly anyways. You cried into his chest, your hands fisting his shirt. You reached up and grasped his face, sobbing as your eyes locked into his.
âGod,â You cried, resting your face against his. âOh, god, Eddie.â
âIâm alright, y/n,â He grabbed your chin. âCalm down, take a breath. Iâm fine.â It was alarming how much you were crying, how upset you were.
His other hand softly petted the back of your head, his thumbs circling your cheek. âIâm alright.â He pressed a soft kiss against your lips, drinking in your whimpers.
âIâm guessing you missed me then?â He chuckled, closing his eyes.
âI want us to leave, Eddie.â You sniffled, grabbing his face, whimpering at his features. He was still alive, you told yourself. âI canât- we canât stay here, Eddie, please. Please-â
âWoah, woah, what?â He sat up, looking up at you. âWhat are you talking-â
âI canât.â You sobbed, your voice cracking heavily. Your hand clasped over his heart, shaking your head. âNo more, Eddie. We canât keep- I donât want to live here anymore! Itâs too dangerous, and I canât-â
He looked at you with wide eyes, his hands resting on your arms. âY/n,â
âI canât live without you.â You said more quietly, voice coated with traumatized tears. âEddie, I was so scared. I still- Iâm still scared, I donât wanna l-loose you! Please, tell me we can go! Please,â
âOkay, okay, shh,â He grabbed your face. âCalm down, shh, itâs alright.â He pulled you close, holding you as tight as he could. He realized know just how traumatized you were. Really, he had trouble remembering all about what happened. He remembered the pain, and the sound of both your screams. He remembered how stubborn you were as you dragged him through the upside down with Henderson. âY/n, Iâm alright, you hear me? Iâm here, youâre here. Weâre alive, sweetheart. Weâre okay.â
You sobbed into his chest, your hand resting at the back of his neck. âDonât ever leave me.â You cried. âSwear it. Swear you wonât leave me again.â
Despite all of this, heâd never felt more confident. Finally, in his life, he didnât run. Sure, he got torn up in shreds, but he didnât run. He was a hero, and it was his year. You made it his year. âI swear it.â

But his friend and coworker who only ever talks about him when others bring him up is a weirdly obsessed stalker, right?
Sheâs the one he needs to be protected from, right?
This is so fucking⌠neither Joe nor Grace deserve any of this bullshit. Theyâre human beings. They filmed a show almost two years ago now, and now it finally comes out and yeah theyâre touched by all the love but the whole experience as lovely as the majority of fans may be is tainted by people being Weirdos.
Like you have the audacity to go and be this creepily invasive towards the man. Then - because you lack any self awareness - turn around and cyberbully his friend for literally nothing because youâre projecting all your psycho shit onto her apparently.
Because youâre jealous of the fact she actually knows him. That in their roles as fictional characters - there were flirtations.
Itâs not ok. Idc how hold you are - nothing about any of this is ok.

part one | part two | part three
One week.
One week has passed by since youâve seen your best friend. The man youâve been used to sharing stories with during spontaneous sleepovers in his stain-filled bed and falling asleep on his shoulder during your movie nights. One week since that same man crushed your spirits, stomping and pulverizing them in front of you. No calls, no visits, just the empty house youâve known since your parents brought you home from the Hawkins hospital.Â
Your parents decided to extend their trip a bit with Chrissy overpacking and needing some more help getting adjusted to living on her own for just a little longer. You werenât complaining, as with the circumstances that left you being alone overnight for the first time ever made you well adjusted. Plus, you felt as if you needed some more time to wrap your head around everything, and your parents finally coming home wonât help the headspace you needed to avoid. The comparisons would start the minute they walk in the door and the absence of Chrissy settled in.
As much as you loved your sister, it hurt to be constantly in her shadow. She was your parents favorite child, star athlete thanks to being captain of the cheer squad, and now going on to do great things at a great university, while you werenât sure what it was you wanted to do with your life yet. You loved running the paper and being in debate club, but you werenât sure if those would still stick with you once you walked the stage of the Hawkins High auditorium. That was what you admired most about Eddie, his determination and drive towards his ultimate goal.
He knew he was going to be a big rock star since he was in middle school, he would remind you and Chrissy of that any chance he got. He wand his band were going to take off any minute now, soar the charts and become overnight sensations, selling out a world tour and headlining every venue and music festival. You vowed the moment you became his best friend youâd be by his side and support him during his entire journey. Now, you werenât sure that was still a possibility.
Being second best to Chrissy was something you had grown used to, but never did you think it would happen with Eddie. You had accepted the fact that a romantic relationship was never in the cards for the two of you, opting to stay happy and content with a friendship that couldnât be broken by anything, at least, thatâs how it used to be. But then he tried to kiss you and settle for you, as if it was just some thing that needed to happen now that she was off to college and out of Hawkins for good, settling for the crumbs that were leftover from the delicious Thanksgiving dinner. And it hurt.
It fucking hurt.
On top of everything, you felt as if you had no one to really go to about this. Only a few people knew about your crush on Eddie, and you had no desire to spill your guts about your dilemma at the moment. In most stressful situations you encountered, Chrissy was always the person youâd go to. Being your big sister, she always knew exactly what to say to get you to think clearly or point you in the right direction. But with this situation involving her directly, and her off at college living her new life, it wasnât an option. So here you were, left to your own devices, a week of thinking and stressing about the future between you and Eddie, platonic or not.
You park the car in front of Family Video and make your way towards the entrance. The allotted time for the videos you rented to your movie night with Eddie was up, and maybe seeing your friends would cheer you up a bit. Steve and Robin always knew what to say to get your spirits high, or even higher if you just wanted to hang.
âWelcome to Family Video how may I-oh! Hey Y/N,â Steve greets you, his smile stretching from ear to ear. You return his smile, your lips tight and teeth remaining behind the barrier of your mouth as you approach the counter. You place the tapes in front of Steve and tap your nails against the surface.
âJust here to return those,â you say simply.Â
âHowâd you and Munson like them? Iâve been meaning to check out this specifically,â Steve asks, picking up the tape that had just began to play when everything went down between you and Eddie. You look down at your hands, trying to avoid eye contact with the man known as âthe hairâ.
âWe, uhâŚwe didnât finish that one. Some stuff came up,â you let out lightly. You sigh to yourself as the silence around you and Steve begins to thicken. You hear the gears and ringing of the cash register as you continue to look away, all around the video store.
âDo you want to talk about it?â He asks you. You knew Steve had grown into quite the understanding person within recent years, finally growing out of the asshole popular kid who only cared about reputations and looks. You knew it had something to do with the kids he looked after, the kids you had grown closer to since they became friends with Eddie last year through Hellfire. You always appreciated his advice, but you were still in a funk about the entire thing, not in the mood for talking much.
âNope, just need a distraction. Any new movies come in since last week?â You deflect.Â
âUnfortunately no, but I know you said you wanted to finally check out the Star Wars trilogy, and the person who had Return of the Jedi just returned it, so I saved all three movies for you,â He tells you, reaching beneath him and pulling the three tapes onto the counter. You gasp and jump a bit, excitement surging through your body for the first time in a week. You were so thrilled that you didnât hear the bell to the door chime, alerting everyone that someone new had arrived.
âSteve! You shouldnât have. This is going to be amazing,â you exclaim, beating your fists in excitement against the counter.
âWhatâs going to be amazing?â
Suddenly, you felt your blood turn cold and shivers run up your spine at the sound of that familiar voice. You turn slowly to see the frizzy curls that you to fill you with as much excitement as just felt with getting to watch Star Wars. All happiness that you were temporarily experiencing was gone, taken away by the sheer sound of his voice.
âUh, Y/N is going to finally watch the Star Wars movies, thatâs all,â Steve says, trying to break the tension in the room.Â
âThatâs great,â Eddie says, faking enthusiasm. You hear his heavy footsteps walk around the other side of the counter and off to the horror section. You let out a breath you didnât realize youâd been holding in, shifting your attention back to Steve. His features soften at the sudden change in your demeanor.
âY/N, are you sure youâre ok-â
âJust ring me up, Steve. Please?â You mumble out. He simply nods and begins to process of ringing you out. You keep your head low, but every so often you watch Eddie walk about the store. You had no idea what was going on in his head, but his lack of reaching out to you made your heart sink. Did he not realize what he had done to you? Or did he just not care?
âAlright, Y/N, youâre all checked out,â Steve tell you as he passes you the tapes. He gives you a soft smile and you just look at him as you grab the tapes.
âThanks Steve. See ya later,â you tell him quickly, before running out the door and towards your car. Youâre quick to open the driverâs side door and jump inside, tossing the tapes gently on the dash. You jump out of your skin when you see the passenger door flip open, but quickly calm yourself when you see Eddie jumping in and slamming the door shut.
âGet out of my car Eddie.â
âNo, not until we talk,â he tells you, his body facing you and eyes boring into you. You know you have to be strong and talk things out with him. Heâs been part of your life for so many years, but he also broke your heart when he called you by your sisterâs name, essentially settling for you while still thinking about her.
âSpit it out then,â you say coldly. Your keep your eyes ahead of you looking out towards the hood of your car. You hear him sigh and the clanking of his chains as he shifts around a bit.
âI just wanted to say Iâm sorry,â he begins, letting out a sigh. âI know you probably hate me for what happened last week, and Iâm sorry for the way things went down. I shouldnât have had that much to drink and I shouldnât have put your feelings on the line,â he tells you. His voice was soft and you felt as though it was sincere. You turn to him and look at his big, round, brown eyes, the ones that always left you in a puddle on the floor.Â
âI could never hate you, Eddie,â you tell him simply. You watch the serious look on his face creep into a smile, his eyes gleaming at your words.
âReally? Good, because I was thinking-â
âIâm not done,â you tell him, holding your hand out to try to stop him. âJust because I donât hate you, doesnât mean I donât hate what you did. EddieâŚyou really hurt me. The feelings I had for you, they were real and strong and clouded all my judgement most of the time. I thought I could handle you having a crush on my sister and pushing my own feelings aside in order to be your friend-your best friend. But when you said what you said last week, it broke me in ways I can barely fathom into coherent words. You called me Chrissy for crying out loud Eds,â you explain to him. You watch him nod and look to your floorboard, the look of shame and guilt you hadnât seen much from him seeping into his features.
âHad?â He asks, quirking a brow at you.
âIâm sorry?â You question, confusion smeared across your face.
âYou said the feelings you had for me. Do you not think of me that way anymore?â He asks, turning his body towards you once more and looking back into your eyes. You let out a soft sigh and shake your head.
âI donât know. Iâve been in pain for a week and itâs given me a lot of time to think about the situation, how it all went down, and so many outcomes from how we can go on from this,â you tell him. You feel your eyes prick with tears and you swallow down a sob, the raw emotions coming from this conversation really hitting you. âI donât think I can continue loving someone who doesnât truly love me the way that I love them. Hell, Iâm not even sure I can move past it and be friends.â
You watched Eddieâs face fall at your words, his eyes full of sadness and his jaw hanging open. He grabs your hands and holds them in his own.
âY/N, please. I-I canât lose you, I need you. Please just listen to me-â he begins to say, but youâre quick to cut him off.
âEddie, Iâm sorry I canât. Not right now. A-and Iâm not sure when. But I do know I need you to get out of my car because I canât take this anymore right now,â you explain, letting the tears race down your cheeks as you choke out the words to him. Youâre breaking your own heart at this point, but it might be better this way.
Right?
âY/N, please-â he chokes out, tears of his own welling in his eyes.
âEddie, please let me go.â
He slowly lets go of your hands and sits in the passenger seat for a moment, his head hung in defeat. You turn to look out the driver window, trying to muffle your sobs by putting your hands over your mouth and choking them back more. The passenger door opens once again and you feel the movement spread throughout the car, and the door closes softly. You watch as Eddie walks around to your side and hops in his van that was parked in the space beside you, starting his engine and speeding off down the road, not caring if heâd get pulled over or crash the damn thing.
You finally move your hands away from your mouth a grip your steering wheel as you let the cries escape the barrier that is your lips. Resting your forehead against the wheel, your whole body shakes as you let your true feelings out, screaming and tears streaming down your cheeks. No one ever said heartbreak was easy. Maybe it would for the best that Eddie wouldnât be in your life anymore. Or maybe it wouldnât.
i hope yâall enjoyed! comments, likes, and reblogs are greatly appreciated!

part one
Over the past day, things have been awkward and painful between you and Eddie. If your friends were to describe it, theyâd just say everything was how it normally was, which was the painful part. Knowing what happened between you and Eddie last night now, it hurt that things remained the same between the two of you. His attention was anywhere but on you, getting any opportunity to walk away from you or chose to be near one of your other friends when doing the activities you all planned out. The hike you went on? Third wheel between Steve and Nancy. Where did he sit when you all watched a movie Robin brought from Family Video? All by himself on the floor closest to Steve. On the rare occasion that he did talk with you, it was just his typical insults jabbing at you.
You didnât have the heart to bite back at him though, which did make your friends curious as theyâve grown accustom to the bickering. They assumed you were still mad about what he told you last night with his deep cut of an insult, which was very true, just mixed with other events. The hurt and confusion that mixed around in your brain was clouding your judgement a bit, unsure of what kind of move you wanted to pull next. You did know that youâd just continue to push through, despite wanting to put as much distance between yourself and this trip as possible.
The six of you went hiking earlier in the morning, deciding to spend the night exploring the local town that was nearby that had some cute shops, entertainment, and food options. The hike along the trail left you with breathing views of the mountains, your mind finally finding some kind of peace as you just took in your surroundings, until Eddie came fumbling by, pushing past you without so much as a âmy badâ thrown your way, as he caught up with Steve and Nancy, interrupting their private moment they were sharing.Â
You sigh as you slip on your outfit for the evening of exploring. Adjusting the look of the waistline, you smooth out a few wrinkles in your baby blue sundress youâd packed for a night like this, wanting to look cute despite having no one to impress, at least, thatâs what your initial thoughts were when you had packed all your clothes. Even with the change in demeanor between yourself and the frizzy haired metalhead, that initial thought was still reigning true. You thought about the possibility of Vickie bringing her Polaroid, so maybe looking nice in some photos together wouldnât be too bad. Grabbing your purse, you exit the bedroom and join everyone else in the living room.Â
âLookinâ good, Y/N,â Robin tells you, digging her hands in the pockets of the blazer she wore, accompanied by a few whistles coming from the other ladies of the cabin. You flash Robin a smile as you notice Eddie giving you a quick glance out of the corner of your eye, his attention turning away from you as quick as it came. You all walk out the door and you lock the door as everyone else walks to Eddieâs van. You climb inside, silently thanking the heavens that Steve was sitting in the passenger seat, leaving you and the girls in the back.Â
The journey towards the little town was quite, with Eddieâs cassette tapes playing on a low volume, which was quite a different pace for him. You werenât sure if everyone else felt as awkward as you did in that moment, or if there was a silent agreement that everyone was just hungry or awaiting to see what the town had in store. Regardless, you were happy with the silence, as if left you alone with your thoughts on the previous nights activities, wondering how you could confront Eddie about it or what you might say to spark a conversation.
Pulling into a parking spot, you all climb out and look at the town around you. It resembled a version of Hawkins in your eyes, small and quaint, but with much better views and pretty greenery all around. The flowers were in bloom now that is was spring, adding to the effect and filling the world with pops of color. It was comforting, making you excited to see more.
The six of you walk along the sidewalk, popping into shops you found impressive. Eddie saw a music shop across the street, which he quickly abandoned you all for, Steve and Robin saw a Family Video and thought itâd be funny to go around the store pretending they worked at that location, leaving you, Nancy, and Vickie in a cute consignment shop looking around. You rummage through the clothing racks, not looking for anything in particular when you feel Nancy tap you. Your turn to her a flash her a tight lipped smile.
âIs everything okay? I know you keep saying it is, but I just want to make sure. I donât want you bottling anything up that I could maybe help you out with,â she asks you, her voice a soft whisper so you donât alert the others in the shop.
âHonestly? No. But itâll be okay,â you reassure her, more so trying to convince yourself. You see the concern still on her face, her eyebrows turning upwards at the hint of sadness heard in your voice. She places her hand on your shoulder and rests it there for a moment.
âJust know Iâm here if you want to talk, okay?â You smile at her and place your own hand on top of hers, silently thanking her for the support she was giving you. âIf it helps, I can get Steve to knock some sense into Eddie for you.â
âYou and I both know heâd lose,â you both laugh, knowing that as much love Steve had in his heart and wanted to protect the people he cared about most, he was not the best physical fighter. Black eyes and bruises were common for the man known as âthe hairâ, which either you or Nancy would find yourselves attending to. Even with that fact being the most well known amongst the citizens of Hawkins, it was still the effort that Steve showed in order to protect his loved ones that mattered most.
You look out at the music store across the street and notice Eddie standing outside with a small bag in hand. What lies on his other hand is what concerns you most. A tall, blonde woman with a revealing top and Daisy Duke shorts was throwing herself at him. His devilish smile caused his dimples to take full effect, and the serenity in his eyes told you he was flirting back at her. You felt your heart drop into your stomach at the sight, not entirely sure why he was having this much of an effect on you.
You hated himâŚright?
The blonde throws her head back in a laugh, her hand wrapping around Eddieâs arm, reaching her other hand up to play with his curls, reminding you of how your hand went to grab at his frizzy curls when he went down on you just last night. That was what it took for you to feel anger bubbling up in the pit of your stomach. Was it jealousy? Maybe. Regardless, it was a feeling you werenât too fond of and you needed to do something about it. Now.
âHey Nance, Iâll be right back,â you say, before speeding out the doors of the consignment shop before she could even acknowledge what you said. You look at both sides of the road before crossing, your eyes locked on Eddie and the blonde as your legs move faster than your brain. You grab hold of Eddie by his elbow and begin dragging him away, protests coming from both parties. You turn a few corners with him and find a secluded cobblestone path tucked away, no one around to hear or see anything. You let go of Eddieâs arm and stand in front of him, crossing your arms with a huff. His eyes are wide and he looks you up and down, trying to figure out what the hell is going on.
âYou gonna tell me what that was about?â He asks, his smug smile creeping across his face. You were starting to have a love-hate relationship with that smile, and part of you thinks he knew that too.
âI dunno, Eddie. You gonna tell me why the fuck youâve been ignoring me but have no trouble hitting on some random chick?â You ask, your tone irritated and voice raised.
âWoah there, sounds like someoneâs a bit jealous. And clingy.â
âFuck you Eddie, I want answers. W-Why did you leave me the last night?â You ask, lowering your tone.
âI didnât want any of our friends asking questions,â he responds simply. He matches your energy and crosses his arms as well, his shoulder slumped a bit in a relaxed position, as if he had no cares in the world. You let out a huff and fling your arms about.Â
âBullshit. You wouldnât have said what you said that night then, you couldâve waited. W-was it bad for you? Iâd like to think it wasnât since you finished. O-or was it something I said in my sleep? Câmon Eddie, just fucking talk to me!â You yell.
The two of you look at one another for a moment. You try desperately looking for any kind of emotion that may lie in the eyes of the doe eyed man in front of you, but his stoic expression and fierce eye contact is giving you nothing to work with. He lets out a sigh and opens his mouth to speak.
âLook Y/N, donât take it personally. I know youâre trying to get the hell out of Hawkins and you donât need the town freak holding you back,â he explains to you, his voice a bit softer and the seriousness in his voice true.Â
âSo youâre saying you lied about what you said the other night? T-that you donât love me?â You ask, crossing your arms again while quirking a brow. You felt the hurt in your voice escape a little, hoping Eddie didnât.
âI never said that.â
âThen why are you being such a coward about this?â you question him. You could feel your emotions starting to get the best of you, building up at an exponential rate. There was only so much you could handle anymore before you let out screams or sobs or something to express the way you were currently feeling right now.
âWhat do you want me to say here, Y/N. I am a coward! I did what I always do, I ran,â he yells back at you, getting really close to your face. The hitch in your breath is loud when he gets close in proximity, unsure it was due to intimidation or something else bubbling to the surface that you couldnât quite put your finger on.
âSo sue me if I flirt with other girls in an attempt to forget it ever happened. You deserve better than me, I donât know if it was the joint I smoked before we hooked up or me just feeling sorry for you, but Iâm setting you free, Y/N. You donât have to worry about the possibility of there being an âusâ to worry about, okay?â he tells you, his voice stern and serious. Tightness in your chest is suddenly making you not able to speak, the tears you didnât want him seeing were leaving their base and running down your cheeks. How could he be so sweet one minute and so evil the next.
You back up and turn away from him, rubbing away the tears for your eyes and cheeks, probably ruining the makeup you had perfected before going out. The same hurt you felt when he insulted you last night was beginning to settle into your bones again, but you couldnât let him know that. Taking a few deep breaths, you turn back to him, your eyes mixed with rage and sadness. You needed to tell him exactly how you felt, no poking or dancing around the problem.
âNever did I think Iâd ever sleep with you, Munson. But last night something in my head told me to do it. What could possibly go wrong? Here was a guy, claiming to love me and wanting to put his heart on the line so why not be with him physically? Only thatâs what happens every single time I get with a guy. They sweeten me up and say exactly what they want me to hear, all to just end up in my pants and leaving me in the wind the next day,â you begin. You sniffle a little and wipe your nose, needing a quick moment to compose yourself before continuing. âBut you wanna know what the worst part of last night? I really thought youâd be different. I thought all the shit weâve put each other through over the past few years all made sense and came to a conclusion when you kissed me. But now I know youâre just like the rest of them, all the stupid guys at Hawkins High who will do anything to get laid.â
âY/N, wait, I-â
âNo!â You scream, your voice wavering and lip quivering a mile a minute as you try to finish pouring your heart out. âLet me make one thing clear, Munson. I fucking hate you for what you did to me. I wanted to badly to love you but now I know youâre still the piece of shit Iâve hated for as long as I can remember, and will continue to hate until I take my very last breath.â
You turn your back to him once more, your feet carrying you far away from the hateful metalhead as you try to remember the path you took to even get where you were. The tears were streaming down your cheeks faster than before, your heart hammering in your chest as you try to seek solace in the town you all decided to explore. You wanted out of here, out of this town, back to Hawkins in the sanctuary of your own home. As far away from that man as you could get.
Without looking where youâre going, you bump into someone and stumble back, your vision blurred with tears as you can barely make out the silhouette of Steveâs hair.
âHey there Y/N, you won't believe what Robin di-hey wait, whatâs wrong? Did something happen?â he asks you, worry painted all over his face as he grabs your shoulders and pulls you close to his chest. You wrap your arms around him and sob into his shirt, not caring if you were getting your makeup stained into it or dampening the cloth with your tears.
âC-can you take me back to the cabin, please?â You hiccup out, your soft eyes looking up at Steve. He nods and the two of you begin to walk back to the parking spot, Steve shielding you from the rest of the public as you continue to cry into his shirt.
âHey guys-oh my gosh, what happened?â Nancy asks as Vickie and Robin stand beside her.Â
âI donât know. You guys stay here, Iâm gonna take her back to the cabin. Do you know where Eddie is? Is he still in the music shop? I need his keys,â Steve responds. You look up and see the concern etched into the girls faces, feeling just a tad of warmth surge through you at the care your friends had towards you. You notice Nancy look to her side and her features twist in anger, stomping away from everyone. You follow her actions and watch as she starts hitting at Eddie, who is out of breath from what you assume was him chasing after you.
âWhat the hell did you do to her now?â Nancy screams, beating him with her bag. Part of you wanted to laugh at the scene in front of you, but seeing him look at you nearly broke you all over again, so you tear your eyes away from them and crumple back into Steveâs figure.
âNance, please not now. Munson, I need your keys man,â Steve demands. You can tell by his voice that he isnât playing around, just wanting to get you away from here and into safety. You always loved the protective side of Steve. You here the jiggle of keys and one of Steveâs arms leaving your body momentarily, snatching the keys in the air and beginning to walk away from the group once more and towards the van that belonged to the man you hated most.
