he actively lets xie lian do shit he shouldn't and just does his best to warn against it and only intervenes when it's an actually significantly serious life or death situation that he has no way of meaningfully assisting with and the only time he actually gets angry and physical with xie lian is when he has reason to believe that xie lian is about to lethally injure himself on purpose.

he has a scene where he literally tells xie lian not to bother saving someone from certain death, shows xie lian he can't help him save that guy, again reiterates strongly not to try it because it would be nearly impossible, but then just lets him do it. and when feng xin is surprised, hua cheng makes it clear that he doesn't actually think he knows more than xie lian and does not want to control him

'overprotective' is in the same vein as 'stalker' ie labels that people slap onto hua cheng without thinking for a moment about who he is or what those words mean

Luo Binghe remembers the teeth of Shrieking Fire Lizard. Full mouth of them, in too many rows to count, and each as sharp as a tiny, venomous sword. He remembers the way those teeth clenched around his thigh, cutting and burning and tearing at his skin and flesh.

And yet, none of it hurt as much as seeing his shizun, clad in brilliant crimson robes, getting married to another man.

Back in the Abyss, he tore the Shrieking Fire Lizard away, only for dozens more to appear, seemingly out of nowhere, latching at him, melting his hair and eating him alive. Those wounds took the longest time to heal.

Will he be able to heal from the sight of Liu Qingge, landing effortlessly next to a bamboo house, wearing all red? Luo Binghe isn’t so sure.

Liu Qingge looks serious, as he always does, but his eyes, fixed on Shen Qingqiu, betray his feelings. Luo Binghe wonders if his shizun looks at the Bai Zhan brute with the same expression. He wonders if he even wants to know.

At this point, Luo Binghe is almost thankful for his position — being hidden behind the thick bamboo, only seeing shizun’s back. He might not handle it well, if he sees the person he aches for being happy with someone as undeserving, as-

“Let’s get this over with.” He hears Shen Qingqiu’s voice, weak and tired, but still easily recognizable to him, even through the quiet, nervous chatter of gathered Peak Lords.

It’s enough for Luo Binghe to act. He tears through bamboo, straightens his shoulders, and strides confidently in the direction of the small crowd. He feels the phantom pain in his chest, right where his only scar is located. His heart is beating too hard and too fast. Years in hell, crying and begging and raging, and now, now he will see the face of the person who sent him there. The face of his shizun, who seemingly moved on, cast him aside like the trash he is, but.

But there was something in his voice, something that got Luo Binghe’s feet moving on their own.

And there is something in Luo Binghe’s chest that is burning and it won’t be soothed by anything but his shizun.

If shizun is happy with what is undeniably a quickly made up wedding, will Luo Binghe let it happen? Come back another day to ask his questions and demand his answers?

His aching, burning heart is beating so fast. His eyes threaten to overflow with either tears or red glow.

It was supposed to be me, he can’t help but think, you were supposed to marry me.

He will not let shizun get married, Luo Binghe realizes. He might have to kill Liu Qingge, if it comes to that.

Shen Qingqiu is not the first to notice him. Yue Qingyuan gives him a surprised look, dimmed eyes widening for a second. Liu Qingge’s frown deepens.

“Aren’t you dead?” He asks in his usual, idiotic manner.

Luo Binghe doesn’t answer. Because, hearing Liu Qingge say that, Shen Qingqiu starts to turn.

A breath, a moment and Luo Binghe will see him. He feels starved and half crazed.

“Shizun,” Luo Binghe says, “Is this one late to celebration?”

A sharp intake of air and suddenly Luo Binghe is, once again, a sole proprietor of those green eyes. They’re the only thing he sees for a short, dizzying moment. Then, he blinks and lets himself look at his shizun, really look at him.

He almost wishes he didn’t.

“Shizun?” He gasps.

I feel like there are different levels to alternate transmigration roles for shen yuan in aus. like there's putting him in a different character, whether that be a named character with an established role (ming fan, gongyi xiao, etc), an established role that's technically an oc (an unnamed peak lord, one of bingge's wives, etc), or a completely fresh npc (another qing jing disciple, etc). Then there's another level where he ends up in an animal, like giving shen qingqiu a pet cat or transmigrating into someone's daemon in a daemon au, which isn't too far out there since animals are still sentient and have personalities, especially in a daemon au. The next level is putting him in someone's spiritual weapon, like xiu ya or xuan su, which isn't too far out there either since spiritual weapons can be pretty willful and in other mxtx novels they have their own personalities

I think we should take it a step further and get really abstract with it. Where's an au where shen yuan transmigrates into the fake jade pendant

Bingge has been running himself ragged for MONTHS looking for HIS 'nice Shizun'.

What he doesn't know is that Shen Yuan transmigrated into wife #216 (the one from the sexy slime chapter...) the same night he came back and have been living his best life in the palace's library every day. He's been 'giving' his night with Bingge to the harem member who managed to sneak him in a 'Flower of Transing your Gender'.

It's kind of uncomfortable to wear a woman's clothes when he's just a totally normal straight guy, but he's FINE!! He's low enough on the totem pole that he is ignored for most of the harem drama and since he's a DUDE now he isn't pulled into any wife plots! Now he gets to study all the monsters he could ever want! Plus, just occasionally glimpsing the 'best wives' like Liu Mingyan, Sha Hauling, and Ningying is pretty cool, too!

Things are going GREAT until he passes by an upper courtyard one morning and finds a Beauty Devouring Harpy-Lizard has three wives cornered and is about to eat them! Oh no! Well, this is probably a wife plot, so Bingge will come any moment now to save them....

WHERE is he???

Shen Yuan uses his new Beast Knowledge and his stolen body's mild cultivation to tame the lizard. Turns out it's just a juvenile and they can wean it off eating pretty women if they feed it enough regular meat! Now Shen Yuan has three women in his corner, too! They can help keep him off Bingge's radar while he stays in the palace!

Except... well... it keeps happening.

Beasts attack when Shen Yuan is nearby. Bingge doesn't show up. And then Shen Yuan has to deal with it! He's forming his own harem inside of the harem and he doesn't WANT that!!! Bingge will kill him!!!

It all comes to a head when one of the IMPORTANT wives, Ningying, is cornered by a Ravenous Rainbow Gem Tiger! Even using all of his cunning and smarts, Shen Yuan isn't sure he's going to make it! He manages to get Ningying out of there, but he's on the back ropes...

Then Bingge shows up just in time to save the day.

Oh and he looks BAD. Hair unkept, bags under his eyes, like he hadn't been eating; even with Airplane's shitty Cultivation rules the protagonist shouldn't look like this! Shen Yuan INSTANTLY starts fretting over him. Bingge doesn't seem that impressed, probably used to it by now and thinking that this is just gunna lead to The Usual Business. But he gets this little nagging feeling when Shen Yuan invites himself back to his chambers. Shen Yuan bullies him into bathing, brushes out his hair, makes him eat something, and gets him tucked all nicely into bed. And without a hint of papapa in sight!

In fact, Shen Yuan just... pats Bingge on the head and makes him promise he'll sleep and then leaves.

Bingge staring at the ceiling of his bed, taken care of, no sex expected... squints and has his 'wait a fucking minute' moment.

Shizun’s Smallest Disciple

Shen Qingqiu, on the edge of the abyss at the IAC, BEGGS the system for another way

System asks… “You’d do anything?” SQQ: “ANYTHING!” 

System puts a quest marker on a blossom that has gone to seed - a Scorching Demonic Parasite Dandelion. SY knows through his reading that if a demon blows on this blossom and someone swallows even just one seed, the demon will start growing from the seed in a tiny pocket in their abdomen until they are reborn chestburster style having taken on some of the traits and strength of the host.

SQQ instructs Binghe to blow, Binghe not knowing what is happening but trusting his master

SQQ becomes visibly pregnant with Luo Bingseed at the IAC, bearing Binghe’s demon mark on his own forehead as a sign that he can’t exactly hide before everyone knows about it

Huan Hua accuses him of being a demon, but Mu Qingfang cuts in and explains that this is likely the effect of the plant, and that it is a simple matter of medicine to “cure” Shen Shixiong of whatever demonic parasite has latched onto him. (Due to the huadian and having met Binghe, LPM KNOWS who the demonic parasite inside SQQ is!) and YQY, not having the knowledge of Binghe, thinks the demonic parasite is Tianlang-Jun who is doing this for revenge–demands to see him, but Huan Hua is resistant

Huan Hua insists on locking up Shen Qingqiu in the water prison until the medicine is administered and takes its course, putting him in the Su Xiyan position where he said he would NEVER abort Luo Binghe XD

He refuses to take the medicine at first, but then it’s forced on him. He fights it just like Su Xiyan did, and his body and weakened cultivation from Without a Cure can’t handle it, and he’s falling apart. He still does his best to eat/drink/maintain his body ONLY because it’s a vessel for Binghe’s rebirth, and since demons who use the Parasite Dandelion kill their hosts anyway, he’s resigned to his own death either way (Completely not at all considering ever getting rid of Binghe as even an option)

Meanwhile Yue Qingyuan clandestinely pays a visit to Tianlang-Jun’s prison against the wishes of the OPM. His intent is to prove to the cultivation world that TLJ has escaped and that OPM is covering for it by keeping SQQ (Who TLJ is inside as a parasite) locked up. Instead, he finds TLJ right where he’s supposed to be, in bad shape, with Zhuzhi attending to him. 

YQY is incredulous and says as much in an out loud freak out. If the heavenly demon inside his Shidi isn’t Tianlang-Jun or Zhuzhi-Lang, who the hell is it?! He and TLJ put the pieces together that Su Xiyan had Tianlang-Jun’s child. YQY immediately (impulsively, without going over any terms) releases TLJ and the two of them storm Huan Hua together to get back SQQ and Binghe (And in TLJ’s case, to kill the Palace Master, which really if YQY looks away at this point, it’s only because he’s so concerned for his Shidi he can’t think of anything else!)

The two of them find SQQ being barely kept alive by GYX, who is transferring qi to him. The Binghe growing inside him is perfectly healthy and unharmed.

Even with a qi transfer from YQY as well, TLJ tells them it’s not enough, and that SQQ would still die. His only chance is to remove Binghe early, which TLJ and his blood parasites are capable of doing without either of the two dying (Probably. He thinks. He’s not exactly at full power, but it’s fine.)

The Binghe that comes out is a premature baby and needs a constant supply of both demonic and spiritual energy to sustain his life and maintain his growth

when YQY sees SQQ HOLDING A BABY he goes absolutely bonkers and pledges that he will help raise the child and presto, Binghe gets 3 dads

**Possible bingseed feeds on the System so as to harm SQQ as little as possible

Meanwhile TLJ is constantly teasing YQY "You know I feel like leveling a city this afternoon. Maybe you could do the righteous thing and distract me?" XD

Shen Yuan- ecology grad dropout- is going through a rough patch. His health took a turn for the worst around the time his grandmother passed, leaving the old house and the land surrounding it to him. Grad school was too much to handle when he could barely feed himself. Taking his sister’s suggestion, he moved to the old countryside estate for fresh air and space to live as slowly as he needed (with high speed internet of course). Ecology had been his passion however- he couldn’t give up his work. So he started monitoring and caring for land.

Unbeknownst to anyone, this was spiritually rich land. Animals have cultivated there for centuries, creating guardian spirits. And when they see this beautiful, kind, wonderful human working with the land so passionately despite his infirmity, they grow fond.

Liu Qingge, the gallant tiger spirit dutifully protects Shen Yuan from harm in the wild.

Dog and cat spirits Yue Qingyuan and Shen Qingqiu keep Shen Yuan company at home, caring for him during flares.

Wolf dog Luo Bingge has to learn not to bite the hand that wants to feed him… he’s got a little ways to go.

Mobei Jun, the stoic boar spirit, doesn’t have much of an interest in Shen Yuan. His best frenemie Shang Qinghua on the other hand…

Will you ever drawn Yue Qingyuan as a skin creature?

I’ve thought about it a lot especially since I’m so biased towards YQY!! But my brain always halts at the thought of the fact CQM will have a skin creature as sect leader,,,, I have so many questions as to how the mountain will be run. BUT IT’D BE SO FUNNY IF IT WAS JUST BUSINESS AS USUAL 😭😭
