Can we talk about how aspec coded Jo March is in the Greta Gerwig movie. I mean you can sort of see it in other iterations but in this one it’s just very much there
Let me qoute some of the lines that Jo said
“I don’t see why I can’t love you as you want me to. I don’t know why. I can’t change how I feel and it would be a lie to say I do when I don’t. I’m sorry, Teddy, I’m so sorry, but I can’t help it… I can’t say “Yes” truly so I won’t say it at all”
That line hurts. The entire argument scene hurt and really stood out to me.
Then of course there is “I don’t believe I will ever marry. I’m happy as I am, and love my liberty too well to be in any hurry to give it up.”
“Women. They have minds, and they have souls, as well as just hearts. And they’ve got ambition. And they’ve got talent as well as just beauty. And I’m so sick of people saying that love is just all a woman is fit for. I’m so sick of it. But I’m so lonely.”
This one I literally cried at. There’s such this focus in society even now for women to find the right guy and settle down. If all a women is fit for is love and I can’t do that where does that leave me? A lot of the time I feel like I missed a necessary piece of girlhood. Because all the girls around you gush about the boys the like and when they ask your crush you have nothing to give them.
Then of course there’s the whole “I care more to be loved.” “That is not the same as loving” dialogue. That’s very cupioromantic coded but even as an aro I find it relatable because it’s not that I want a romantic partner it’s just that I want somebody to do life with. And everybody tells you that your options are either to be alone or married.

My biggest pet peeve is the treatment of Jo March abt her Aromantism. Notice how most people who watch little women say "Jo and Teddy were meant to be endgame" that "mr friedrich for the win" this IT MAKES ME MAD

I've seen five different film adaptations and watched a ton of video essays comparing them, but it wasn't until finally reading Little Women for myself now that I learn... Jo was actively shipping Laurie with all three of her sisters.
Before Meg marries John, Jo says that she was hoping Meg and Laurie would get married.
After the twins are born, and before she goes to New York, she thinks Beth is in love with him and she decides they would be good together. She even tells Laurie to stop flirting with women he doesn't really like and turn his attention to one he actually respects, and she means Beth.
And then, some time after she rejects his proposal, she and Beth are talking about how he and Amy are actually perfectly suited for one another. And this is before he even catches up with Amy in Europe.

No one: Not a single soul: Me: Pleck's arc in the last stretch of MTZ is about once again endeavoring to save the galaxy, only now his actions are a majorly influenced by guilt brought on by the idea that his friends (now his family) are owed more than what he's been able to give them in the past, and the idea that they're owed something for what he's put them all through by sticking to this quest for the last six years; this idea of guilt is additionally brought on by the existence of Evil Dar, a living version of his worst mistake to date. His arch nemesis in the final isn't Kor Balvore because Pleck's real worst enemy is his own guilt and mistakes, thus making his nemesis Evil Dar, who has already forgiven him (though he offers them a long-winded and probably long overdue apology anyway). Pleck defeats the big bad of the series and saves the galaxy (with the help of the crew of course) by first defeating his own guilt and apologizing for his mistakes, which in turn lead to Evil Dar telling him that everyone makes mistakes, and he's already been forgiven.

At some point in your life, you were taught that being slightly annoying is an unforgivable sin. Maybe it was by your parents or a teacher or a friend or a bully or an older sibling. But someone taught you that being slightly annoying is a crime punishable by death.
You must unlearn this.
You must accept that all people will be annoying at some point or another in their lives, maybe all of their lives, and that this is okay. It is okay for strangers on the bus, it is okay for children in the grocery store, it is okay for people on social media, and it is okay for you.
If you ever want to truly love your fellow humans, if you ever want to truly love yourself, you must have forgiveness for being annoying.
