(bedroom suck records)
Well, this is an all-star Melbourne bunch. Bass is played by Martin Frawley (Twerps), Drums are played by Joe Alexander (Terrible Truth’s) and vocals are from Zach Schneider (Totally Mild). Free time’s ‘Who Owns the Moon’ is the band’s recent release getting things started before they put out their second album later in the year.

Raindrop is a band out of Sydney who’s 60′s psych influences shine through to create a woozy concoction that is best described by the band themselves as : “Motown hits tripped out on acid”. Whilst this track isn’t particularly new, it’s a great indicator of the band’s epic ability to take you to another planet.

Sampa The Great x Hiatus Kaiyote. Wow, interesting collaboration that works well. A standout song for me on this mixtape is ‘Shake it Off’.

Silk Rhodes has been a favourite of mine since they released their debut album back in 2014. The project has been dubbed as ‘minimalist soul funk’ which is blatantly illustrated in their recent release ‘Stuck in My Head’. Can’t stop playing this!

(1991)
Gourmet is an electronic pop project out of South Africa. I’m in love with this song. It’s just so bright with such a strong pop influence whilst still remaining fresh and unpredictable. The booming hip-hop drum break paired with the guitar riff is awesome.

(future classic)
World Champion is probably my most favourite addition to Future Classic’s list of talent. The Sydney duo have been putting out some cruisy psych pop and Tip Pit is a clear example of this. Give Avocado Galaxy a listen too if you have the chance.

(Tourist Kid)
It seems to me that Perth takes the cake for some of the most talented musicians in the country. Tourist Kid is a Perth electronic project which is releasing some pretty interesting stuff. ‘Philautia’ in a few words : glitchy, bright, jarring, experimental. This track just keeps evolving and taking your ears to new places. Give it a listen.

(SACAGAWEA AND THE HUNTERS) are a Philadelphia based psych-rock band. What comes to mind straight away is 2013 Tame Impala. Sorry, not sorry. I really like the distorted guitar solo at the end of the track and I’m a sucker for the blissed out lo-fi vibe.

(Koi Child)
Kevin Parker sure know’s how to pick ‘em.  If you’ve been completely out of it, Koi Child is a hip-hop/funk/jazz band from Fremantle and they’re pretty groovy. I’m definitely digging this recent release since Black Panda. The stand out aspects for me on this track were the psychedelic sounding intro, airy synths and stellar drum groove. Perfect song to chill out to. Can’t wait for the release of their debut album.

I’m a pretty big fan of Parcels. I would definitely recommend their EP ‘Clockscared’ which you can listen to on their Spotify. https://soundcloud.com/parcels-music/sets/clockscared-ep
