By now, you should have either 1) posted your completed assignment, 2) reached out to us for an extension, or 3) reached out to us to default. There are a couple of people we have reached out to regarding their work – please respond to any mod communication you received today (or have not responded to yet) within 24 hours. Please check the e-mails that you put as your contact info into the sign up form, even if you think you have posted your assignment. We have questions for a couple of you.

If you’ve posted your assignment and do not yet have a gift, don’t worry! A few creators have received extensions, for one. Second, everyone who completed their assignment is guaranteed a fic, even if they need to go to pinch hits.

If you realize you need to default on your extension, please let us know ASAP. Please don’t just disappear. No-show extension defaults will receive the same one-round bad as regular no-show defaults.

Hello, we have a little over two left until it's time to post! Here you can follow the countdown to the deadline of December 24th at 11.59 PM PST. If you are unable to post by then for any reason, please contact us at theonexchange@gmail.com (or privately on discord) as we're more than willing to grant extension and be flexible so long as we have warning.

In the meantime, if you're done with your assignment, you can consider writing a treat for another participant!

Time for treats!

If you decided not to sign up this year but still want to do something for the exchange, or are done with your assignment but feel inspired to take on another challenge, you can write a treat!

Most of the rules of the exchange do not apply to treats: you can post to the collection at any time, before or after reveals, and can write any length. However you do need to write a relationship your recipient requested and respect their Do Not Wants and the highest rating they are willing to receive - we’ll still be checking!

Assignments are out! Please check the e-mail with which you signed up for your assignment. (Make sure to check your junk folder if it’s not in your inbox.) If you have NOT received your assignment, please reach out to the mods via off-anon ask, discord or the mod e-mail ASAP. Please respond to your assignment e-mail so we know you received it.

Your assignment will be due on December 24, 2024, 11:59 PM (PST/GMT-8). Once you have completed your work, please post it to the exchange AO3 collection.

Please remember the following as you create for your recipient:  

This is an anonymous exchange, so please keep who you are writing for and the details of what you are writing a secret (other than from your beta/writing cheerleader). If you have a question about your assignment/for your recipient, please contact the mods. DO NOT contact your recipient directly.

You must submit a completed work with a minimum of 500 words for fic OR a clean sketch on unlined paper for art. You may only create art if your recipient has stated that they are requesting art.

Your fic must be in one of the fandoms your recipient requests and centering on at least one of the romantic or platonic relationships they request in that fandom.

You MUST respect your recipient’s Do Not Wants and the highest rating they are willing to receive.

Recipients’ likes and prompts are optional, however you are encouraged to take them into consideration. Please remember that you are creating a gift for someone.

Hello, Theon fans! Theon Exchange is back for its fourth (yes, really!) year and we are super excited to be back! For everyone who is new, this is a Secret Santa-style fanfic (and art) exchange focused on Theon Greyjoy. The schedule for this year’s round is as follows:

The collection will open on schedule, on January 1, 2023! Currently, we are expecting opening at about 1an PST. Here is a countdown.

If you’ve been messing around with tags, final edits, or your title, now is the time to get all those last minute changes in :) If you posted your work a while ago, you might want to re-date it so that it’s at the top of the tags on AO3 when works go live.

9 hours left!

Home stretch everyone! Just under 9 hours left to post your work! Remember that the deadline is December 24, 2022 at 11:59pm PST/GMT-8. You can see a countdown to the deadline here!

Please keep a couple of things in mind while posting to the collection.

Double check that your assignment meets all of the requirements. This includes posting a complete work. If you have a fic that works as a stand-alone but you think you might want to add to it later, please post it as a complete work and post the rest later as a sequel/part of a series.

Please put your recipient’s AO3 name in the “gift to” field.

Please make sure your work is fully posted and not a draft. You can add a draft to the collection initially, but it must be fully published by the deadline. Drafts are not visible to anyone but you.

If you need to default or you think you will need a short extension, please reach out to the mods to let us know by the deadline.

2 Days to deadline!

Hello guys, as you can see we now have only just under 48 hours left to deadline, so we want to remind you of a few rules!

To post, open this link and click "Post to Collection" and remember to add your recipient's AO3 username to the 'gift work to' field!

Please only post when you have a complete drawing or fic of at least 500 words with an ending, even if you edit/expand later, and consider giving a re-read to your recipient's DNWs in the editing phase

If you posted a work as a draft, remember to publish it before deadline!

You have until 11.59 (PST/GMT-8) on December 24 to post. If you can't make it, you can ask for an extension until end of day on December 27.

There's no penalty if you need to default from the exchange as long as you let us know any time before the deadline. The only possible consequence is that, if you default and your creator defaults as well, we will not look for a replacement creator for you and thus you might not receive a gift. After deadline we will be contacting everyone who didn't post a fic or contact us themselves; people who still don't respond will be banned for one future run of the exchange

2 WEEKS LEFT + TREATS!

First order of business is to remind everyone that the Assignments Deadline is December 24, 2023 11:59 PM (PST/GMT-8)  That’s 2 weeks away! If you already know you will need to default or will need an extension (up to 3 days) please reach out to us.

For this next part, you do NOT need to be signed up to the exchange to participate in writing treats!

Like last year, we decided to make the document live early to give everyone/anyone who finishes their assignment ahead of time or is not signed up and would like to write a treat a little more time to write prior to the collection golive.

How this works:

In the document linked below you will find the requests of everyone who signed up to the Theon Exchange. 

You are welcome to write treats for any request/requester in this document! Please post your work to the Exchange collection as you would an assignment.  Don’t forget to add the name of your giftee in the “gift work to” space. 

You do NOT need to be signed up to the exchange to write treats! There is also no time limit for when you can write and post a treat (e.g. you can come back after the exchange has ended and write/post a treat then if you’d like). 

The minimum word limit does not apply for treats! 

That said, you are still required to: 1) respect Do Not Wants, 2) respect the maximum rating a requester is willing to receive, 3) center your work on at least one of the relationships requested by the person you choose to write a treat for in the fandom in which it was requested. 

Until the anonymous period of the exchange ends and creators are revealed, we ask that you keep your authorship of treats secret in the same way you would an assignment. If you are coming back to write/post a treat after the end of the exchange, you do not need to follow any anonymity rules.
