17 June 2025
I have been struggling to write this chapter. I have all the materials but I’m feeling so unmotivated lately. I almost don’t know if it’s truly a lack of motivation or actually a lack of discipline. It doesn’t help that this last week I had been feeling out of it after a tiny mental health dip last weekend. Now I feel like I need to get back on track and find my rhythm again.
One of the worst things about dealing with mental illness when writing my dissertation is the constant dips in productivity and focus because of it. Every bad day ends up hurting my focus for the following few days.
Hoping I can fix that starting today…
To-do list:
Pick up dog from grooming
Buy a new fan from Walmart
Write about development in Nicaragua
Read about food and revolution

I am forever grateful to an archivist mentor I worked with in grad school for some resume advice she gave me and thought maybe others would also benefit from it.
Keep a Master Resume.
This is not the resume you send out. This is a detailed resume of every job (with dates and location, supervisor and location phone number are a bonus) and as many skills/duties/accomplishments you can possibly think of for each and every one of the jobs and education programs you can think of.
She showed me hers, it was about 25 pages long, and formatted exactly like a regular resume for ease. Every time she would learn a new program/skill, she'd add it. Change in title or duties, add it. Complete something big/special/complicated/new to her/professionally significant, she would add it. This way when she went up for a promotion or raise, she had a detailed record of highlights to pick from to show she deserved it. There was no "when was that? Did I submit that last round of reviews?"
Applying to a new job? Pick and choose items from your Master Resume to plug in to the resume or CV you will be sending based on the job posting. You don't need to rewrite it, just cut and paste relevant details.

“‎Poverty is not fate, it is a condition; it is not a misfortune, it is an injustice. It is the result of social structures and mental and cultural categories, it is linked to the way in which society has been built, in its various manifestations.”

"what did students do before chatgpt?" well one time i forgot i had a history essay due at my 10am class the morning of so over the course of my 30 minute bus ride to school i awkwardly used by backpack as a desk, sped wrote the essay, and got an A on it.
six months later i re-read the essay prior to the final exam, went 'ohhhh yeah i remember this', got a question on that topic, and aced it.
point being that actually doing the work is how you learn the material and internalize it. ChatGPT can give you a short cut but you won't build you the the muscles.

Happy Monday everyone!!
Reminder: Growth isn’t a race; it’s the quiet art of returning, again and again, to the work that matters. Trust the process as much as the progress. Celebrate the stumbles—they’re proof you’re climbing.

The world needs your mind, your grit, your imperfect-but-evolving magic. So breathe. You’re not late. You’re here. And that’s exactly where you need to be.

May 2025
I have officially graduated with my Bachelor's! I am super excited to dive back in this fall with graduate school, but I am more excited for a pseudo-break over the summer. "Pseudo" because I will still be working on research and trying to think through my grad school plans, but hopefully there will be plenty of beach days and friend hangouts mixed in.
Also, please take a second to appreciate the beautiful latte art in my cortado the other day 😺

disabled people who do not directly "contribute" to society and need large amounts of care and resources to survive deserve not only to survive but to have comfort, stability, and fun within their lives while they do. no compromises.

17.05.2025 | Day 5/100 of the 100 Day Project
I decided it doesn’t make a ton of sense for me to post literally every day of my 100 day project (100 days of my journal will get boring, especially since I don’t want to show everything I write!), so I’ll just post updates when I feel like it. I do like this enough that if I do it again, maybe I’ll do a visual art version instead!
