I'm ThePhoenixPearl from deviantart, though here I'm known as Thepearlyphoenix. I draw dragons, animals, robots and dinosaurs, animates and sometimes draws comics. However, I also try to expand my drawing zone with drawing all kind of things. Other interests than drawing is: games, science (mostly paleontology) series and books.

turkey and azerbaijan are attacking armenia right now, and itâs 1915 all over again because the world is distracted and people are too busy wondering if theyâre gonna live or die, and who gives a shit about my country anyway? my mum told me to tell my friends and explain to them whatâs happening and that we are the victims in this war because azerbaijan is spreading lies and people are believing their lies and i told her, what good is that going to do? do you think anyoneâs going to come to our aid? is russia going to help us? is america? is england? erdogan said they will finish what their ancestors started, and he means genocide. he means ethnic cleansing. he means to massacre every last one of us. and in doing so admitted to the very same thing turkey has spent 105 years denying. i donât know who to tell and what good telling people will do because weâre a small, insignificant country, and we have nothing to offer to the people in power, the handful who rule the world. so i sit here with my pain and i feel helpless. i know thereâs twitter threads and links to petitions and people being urged to contact their senators, and sorry if im being pessimistic, but azerbaijan has been attacking us for the last 22 years, and though we defend ourselves, we canât do anything to stop them. theyâve violated ceasefires (and geneva conventions) multiple times. i donât think theyâll rest until every last one of us is dead.
we just want peace. we just want to live peacefully. weâre not asking for a lot here.

I have seen so many animation myths from animation fans (some I know I believed too), that I have gotten tired enough to debunk some Iâve seen:
The budget affects a lot of the quality of the animation which is why they have to make decisions to have less âsmoother animationâ.
⢠NO! That episode did not redo the animation because the voice actor did a too good of a job, you just compared a storyboard panel to the final animation. A simple scene goes through many reviews and passes before itâs finally approved. (And studio would never do that because that would cost A LOT of money)
â˘Animators can rarely make their own decisions in the animation unless itâs to plus something that already exists. The only way I see it could happen is if the animator trying to contact the higher ups who is working with the entire episode. But then again, might not be entirely risk free of being replaced.
â˘Storyboards of feature films and cartoons are quite different in the sense of method and artstyle and the cinematography of it.
But both has the rule that all the necessary information has to be in the storyboard, which means âyes, action scenes requires many drawings.â
â˘A lot of animators use film references for their scenes, especially in feature films whether animators makes them themselves or the studio have filmed before, and itâs not rotorscoping/tracing! Theyâre studying the body mechanics + acting in order to avoid generic acting.
â˘NO ANIMATION METHOD IS EASY. 3D, stop-motion, hand drawn, puppet animation. All of them follows the same principles to make it believable and ever technique has is advantages and disadvantages + their own visual style.
â˘This one really depends on the production but this is accurate in most cases. 3D ANIMATION IS NOT CHEAPER TO PRODUCE. Especially now when many 2D shows is made on the computer. Source: https://www.studiopigeon.com/blog/how-much-does-it-cost-to-produce-animation-and-why/
I see so many times people âcriticizeâ or âshare factsâ, but is just false information. Myths. So please research, especially if you want to point out the serious flaws because if not, less will be willing to listen because itâs shown you donât know about the industry.

Forgive my ignorance but what is it about the Hero Shrewâs spine thatâs so horrifying? It looks very thick but I donât quite understand why itâs so upsetting?
the pictures donât really do it justice but that spine is so thick that it fills something like 25% of the hero shrewâs thoracic cavity, and itâs so ridiculously fucking strong that a human being can stand on top of the shrew and it will be fine.
(and no, we donât know why theyâre like this. apparently SOMETHING in their environment caused the hero shrew to decide that it needed bones made out of heavy construction equipment, but we donât know what)

Hereâs a meteor caught on dashcam in Tauranga, New Zealand. Itâs amazing how something burning up in our atmosphere lit up our sky like that:

Saw a post where someone made fun of another persons atypical way of typing and when they were then told that the person in question type like that because of a disability, they went âhow was I supposed to just know that? - and in case anyone wasnât aware the answer to that kind of fuckery is:Â
âYouâre not supposed to know that, youâre just supposed to not make fun of anyoneâs harmless differences regardless of whether theyâre disabled or not. Youâre not supposed to be able to tell âweirdâ abled neurotypicals and disabled/mentally ill people apart, youâre just supposed to treat people with respect generally speaking. Itâs not that hard. âI didnât know they were disabledâ is just not the excuse you think it is cause youâre not supposed to make fun of anyone for completely harmless differences regardless of whether said differences are related to a disability or not.

A young pilot risks everything to save his best friendâthe man he trusts most and might even loveâonly to learn that heâs secretly the heir to a brutal galactic empire.
Ettian Nassunâs life was shattered when the merciless Umber Empire invaded. Heâs spent seven years putting himself back together under its rule, joining an Umber military academy and becoming the best pilot in his class. Even better, heâs met Gal Veresâhis exasperating and infuriatingly enticing roommate whoâs made the Academy feel like a new home.
But when dozens of classmates spring an assassination plot on Gal, a devastating secret comes to light: Gal is the heir to the Umber Empire. Ettian barely manages to save his best friend and flee the compromised Academy unscathed, rattled both that Gal stands to inherit the empire that broke him and that there are still people willing to fight back against Umber rule. As they piece together a way to deliver Gal safely to his throne, Ettian finds himself torn in half by an impossible choice. Does he save the man whoâs won his heart and trust that Galâs goodness could transform the empire? ive said it before and i'll say it again: bumblebee (2018) is NOT a 'the shape of water'-esque interspecies romance story. it's a horse girl movie.

Those posts about how youâre allowed to ignore news if its triggering is valid to an extent but seeing one while my country is in the middle of a massive and unprecedented disaster fucking hurts. More than a dozen people are dead, more are missing and half a billion animals have been incinerated.
You cannot stick your head in the sand when an entire country is in crisis
The American dollar is far stronger than the Australian, so here is an article and tumblr post with links to how you can donate, even a small donation on the part of an American will go a long way here

my favourite part of the Evolutionary Biology courses I took at the University of Toronto was learning that several bird species have 3+ sexes? the ruff bird is a great example - each male variant has a different (and successful!) reproductive strategy, and a different chromosomal sequence.
unlike the ruff bird, human sex falls into a bimodal distribution - this means there are two strong peaks (âtypicalâ male and female morphs), with a whole lot in between.
evolution is nice way of saying âstatistics played out longterm among living organismsâ, and evolutionarily successful traitsâŚ.arenât something to hold up as natural or moral, or representative of an advanced state. its literally just fuck tactics that make your group size increase.
(though fucking isnât always the best route, as asexual reproduction is massively advantageous as a short-term strategy, and certain species dominate the landscape by switching between sexual/asexual depending on environmental conditions)
besides all that, the strength of humankind has always been our ability to work together communally, and thatâs straight science. so even if you went down the extremely problematic path of valuing fellow humans based on their potential evolutionary contribution (coughs, eugenics, coughs), there would still be zero scientific basis behind discriminating against trans, non-binary and intersex people.Â
tl;dr hereâs a challenge to all the bigots out there: please stop using âscienceâ as a defence when the actual science is (overwhelmingly) against you.
