It’s likely that it’s moreso your idea of this void that frightens you. 

Company, no company. Being alone with oneself. Both explained by the well-known fact you hear touted about humans being social creatures and all that.

But indeed, an uncomfortable idea it is. I like to contemplate the idea of death this way; We die, and there’s nothing. Complete oblivion. Pitch black. No sound. Not even your own body with which to interact with a possible anything. Just alone with all your purposeless thoughts forever.

It’s almost comforting.
