I think something a lot of alien or otherwise speculative bio sci-fi fails to take into account is how subconscious the influence of things like evolution, biology, language, histories and religions are in every area of culture. It's one thing to say your alien species makes everything yellow because they worship their star as a god; do they tell everyone that's why, or do they just think yellow is a good and pure color because "it just is" and also happen to have a centuries-long foundation of sun worship in their society? Does the alien race go around telling all the other civilizations that they have law against nuclear power because of a specific disaster that happened ten thousand years ago, or is it just normalized in their society to condemn it? Does a predatory species ever stop to consider why "tag" would be their children's universal playground game? Because humans usually don't. Did you know people tend to think of time as going from right-to-left or left-to-right depending on the direction their native language is read? How much does that influence in art, communication, technology? I'd love to see fiction that gives intelligent alien life the same level of casual ignorance about the way their species influences their daily lives that humans do in reality.

So one of the funny things about materials science is that Brilluoin zone diagrams for crystal lattices look like they come straight out of a medieval grimoire.

“Most of the time the universe speaks to us very quietly in pockets of silence, in coincidences, in nature, in forgotten memories, in the shape of clouds, in moments of solitude, in small tugs at our hearts.”
