( Like or comment on this post if you want a starter for Scholar and Diplomat! [ Past ] verse! )
Long before the Main Verse, the Alterans harnessed the essence of the Other Place and called a djinni into being. He was given the name of Maahes; after much debate, it was decided that he would be raised by the scholars of the city he was summoned by. That was five years ago. Maahes is frequently summoned by the people of his home to become an educated member of the society - but all he wants to do is explore! Studying is boring, and there’s an entire city waiting for him. A day where they can actually keep track of the spirit is a blessing. Using the many loopholes he finds in his summoning charge, Maahes rarely stays among the musty old books. Getting into trouble is a frequent occurrence, but he doesn’t let that get him down. After all, how else is he supposed to learn about the world?

( Like or comment on this post if you want a starter for Only Human [Any] verse! )
This verse applies to anything. No matter what verse this thread is set in, the basic details remain the same. Maahes was exploring the galaxy and discovered alien technology. This could be after or before he ends up in another reality, if that’s part of this particular story. When he accidentally turns on the device, he realizes he can’t change his guise. To make matters worse, it’s not just that he’s stuck as his guise - he’s stuck as a human, or whatever that guise was meant to be. His new form could be Leonardo Cartwright, The Scarlet Lord, another guise he sometimes uses or even another muse.
(As a side note: This verse would work best with muses he’s already interacted with.)

( Like or comment on this post if you want a starter for Christo [Supernatural] verse! )
During his explorations in the Main Verse, Maahes stumbles upon a strange set of ruins. It boasts an impressive amount of advanced technology for a civilization that ended thousands of years ago. He attempts to discern its purpose by experimenting with its controls. He’s suddenly enveloped by a white light. When he awakens, he finds himself in a small town that can only be on Earth. Maahes believes that this is the worst of his troubles - he soon finds out otherwise. Things that never had any sort of effect on him in the past are starting to do strange things to him and his essence. Holy water burns. Salt irritates his essence. His eyes turn completely black if someone says, “Christo.” He can get trapped in pentacles that he wasn’t even summoned into. Iron hurts more than silver does. And people keeping coming after him - people with a whole host of painful weapons, all with the intent to harm him. He’s heard that they’re called hunters. He doesn’t want to know what happens with their prey when they finish their hunt. But, at the very least, he has his other magical abilities at his disposal, and the wisdom that someone can only get after being around for 20,000 years.

As detailed in The Story, Maahes lost the people of the Kartiel seven years ago. He is currently infiltrating the Goa'uld and visiting the other planets in the Milky Way Galaxy. It is difficult, but he is slowly growing closer and closer to defeating Kek. He will likely show up as Leonardo Cartwright, rather than the much more sinister Scarlet Lord.

Also set during the Main Verse. After a nasty escape from a planet with unfriendly locals, The Lotus is in need of repairs. Maahes gets his hands on some experimental crystals from one of the Scarlet Lord’s allies, but catastrophe strikes when he tries using the hyperdrive. Rather than end up several light years away, Maahes and his old ship end up all the way in another reality. The hyperdrive is shot. Until he can figure out what happened in the first place, he’s stuck. Playing it safe, he uses the alias of Leonardo Cartwright and tentatively begins his exploration of cultures unlike anything he’s ever seen before.

When he awakens, he’s in the middle of what appears to be New York City. Some of the buildings are completely unfamiliar, and he’s horrified to learn that he’s not even in the right time - it’s more than a decade from what it should be. To make matters worse, it appears the Stargate Program was never created. And, for some reason, there are superheroes? He needs to return home. He decides to live under the name Leonardo Cartwright as a humble librarian. When he realizes that the resources of the Avengers are his best shot at figuring things out, he comes up with a plan. Patrol the streets as the hero The Scarlet Lord, and eventually be asked to join them. It’s risky and highly unlikely to succeed, but it’s the best shot he’s got.

( Like or comment on this post if you want a starter for the Equivalent Exchange [Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood] verse! )
In the Main Verse, Maahes is exploring a new world. This world is uninhabited, by boasts an impressive set of ruins. A mysterious device is hooked up to the odd circles littering the ground; upon closer inspection, Maahes is shocked to realized that they look akin to the pentacles used to summon his kind. He steps into the circle. Then light floods the ruins, and he finds himself in front of a mysterious gate and a figure called Truth. The being tells him the device has opened the gate between worlds. Though Maahes knew nothing of that when he stepped into the transmutation circle, he must pay a toll to go through to the world on the other side - he must give up his magic. He can only change his guise, as it is an integral part of his kind. And then he appears in an alleyway of Central, in Amestris, unaware of the alchemy that is the backbone of this strange new world. Now he must adjust. And, if possible, determine a way back home.

It is after the Main Verse. Kek is dead, yet Maahes oddly remains in the world. He quickly determines that the true reason that he has yet to return to the Other Place was never his charge; his summoner, Ciannet Rivell, is alive. But finding her is like finding a needle in a haystack. After a month of searching, he seeks the help of his trusted friend Vala Mal Doran, who is currently staying in the SGC after using an alien device on Daniel Jackson that prevents her from leaving him. With a little bit of persuading, he is allowed to stay with her.

It is years before the Main Verse. Maahes is biding his time as he waits for some interstellar breakthrough, but even the usage of the stargate the United States retrieved from Giza seems unlikely. After a close encounter in the city he is currently living in, he decides to move to the town of Hawkins, Indiana under the alias of Leonardo Cartwright in the hopes that no one will suspect that he is anything other than human in the small rural town. He is hired as a librarian that goes between the middle school and high school. But Hawkins is a town of secrets, and he quickly finds that it’s not as peaceful as he initially believed it to be.

( Like or comment on this post if you want a starter for the Rise Again [Stargate: Atlantis] verse! )
Maahes has joined Stargate Command, thanks to some help from his then-friend Vala Mal Doran. He’s done a handful of assignments on planets in the Milky Way Galaxy, found his best friend Ciannet Rivell and now is Vala’s boyfriend. But there are still things in his past that he’s rarely told anyone, and a request to go to the once lost city of Atlantis for a visit turns out to be more than a little vacation. Maahes believes that his first summoner Odris is somewhere in the Pegasus Galaxy - and, more importantly, likely somewhere in Atlantis. But his history with the Ancients is a secret that only he knows about, and, unless he confides in someone else, he’s going to be searching alone for the remnants of his childhood.

azari-of-alexandria
Azari sighed internally. As much as she craved to agree to the spirit’s offer, she had plans to leave the Mortal Plane as soon as she could, leaving the servitude of her two dismal masters without a single look backwards.
“As much as it pains me to decline your gracious offer, I am afraid that I must do so,” she told him, casting a quick glance at the window. “I do not wish to linger in London for long. As soon as the weather improves, I will be on my way and, if fate permits, done with my business by the end of the day.”
His master must have been a kind one, though, to allow him to have a living space all of his own on top of paying him a worker’s wage. If only she were so lucky.
Unless…
Unless his master and employer were two different people, and the latter was unaware of the fact that he was a spirit. That would be very strange, though, given that magicians wore lenses that allowed them to see through the guises of most spirits, and even commoners could subconsciously sense a spirit’s aura, often experiencing uneasiness, nausea, anxiety or similar inconveniences. Surely, it was difficult to fool a Londoner surrounded by spirits day and night; humans were an adaptable sort and it usually didn’t take long until they developed defense mechanisms against the “unnatural.” Some had Sight, others Resilience… No, spirits of the rank djinni and below could have a hard time staying hidden among the populace. Of course, it wasn’t impossible - it all depended on the spirit’s power and the type of people they were up against. Azari wasn’t really sure; she was rather new to 21st century London and was yet to find out more about its affairs. She would have to ponder the situation later, preferably with a cup of tea in hand.
Speaking of which…
“My good sir, is the tea ready?” she asked Mr Cartwright, snapping back to reality. “The torrent outside does not seem to lessen and I do believe that all three of us would benefit from a warm beverage.”
Another coughing fit seemed to highlight her point as Kathleen seemed to be in the process of hacking her lungs out. Poor dear.
“You should invest in a warm sweater, young lady,” Azari told her gently. She herself was a great fan of the garment and her guise wore it often when not attending to a librarian’s duties. It was like a woolen equivalent of a hot cup of tea during a rainy day. “Or a scarf, at least. The English weather is seldom merciful even to the most stalwart of immune systems.”
It was impossible to tell if the spirit had understood what he was hinting at, but Maahes desperately hoped that he had been successful. He gave a nod and a smile - ignoring the look on Kitty’s face at the suggestion of the sweater - at the spirit, already getting out two cups of tea.
“Do you want anything in your tea?” he asked. It was only after he poured the cups that he realized he should have gotten one for himself - he hated putting anything in his body, but he had grown used to do it. He just had to occasionally remember to act like he actually wanted to put it there.
He got himself out a cup.
“I don’t want anything in mine,” Kitty begrudgingly said; even the tea itself was clearly a compromise she didn’t want. But tea didn’t work well on its own, and he knew she needed a little bit more.
“I’m putting honey in yours,” he said. He poured himself a cup and added in some honey, too - his essence wanted less, but he knew he couldn’t get away with the minimum. He needed to act like a normal human, and food and drinks were surprisingly good ways to add to the illusion.
He looked up to see Kitty frowning at him.
“I don’t want honey,” she said.
“The tea is supposed to make you feel better,” he pointed out - sometimes, talking to her reminded him of the younger patrons of the libraries he had worked in before his time with Annie. “Honey helps soothe your throat.”
“I don’t need-”
This protest was cut off by another bout of coughing, so Maahes wisely took the opportunity and slid a cup of tea - now with honey - over to Kitty.

( hey guys!
so i’m a big, bad college student now. which is wild and hard for even me to believe, but i’m slowly starting to adjust to it. i’m still adjusting to my schedule, and adjusting to college life in general, so i probably won’t be working on the revamp anytime in the near future.
but i still love using maahes, so just shoot me a message over at @magestorrow whenever you want to roleplay! i’ll periodically check the accounts he has active threads with to see if there’s any updates, and will gladly make new ones with anyone who’s interested. maahes might just be a little different than what it says on the pages of this blog, and will probably mention more names that haven’t really come up before. )
