Boy howdy. So orginally this was supposed to be relased on Halloween. But some very big changes happened in my life and I was struggling to come back to these characters. I missed them dearly. Owen’s been in my head, chucking paper balls at me telling me to write her story and I did not have the enrgy to do it, even though I had the will. I gotta say though thank you @werewolfdays for keeping me motivated, for hearing me rant, for being there through some very rough waves. 15. After a tough day

I walked in on Jayde in our bathroom. She was leaning over the counter with the bandage on her shoulder peeled back, inspecting the bite wound that Elaine left there earlier today. The tip on her fingers came up to lightly poke at the stitches I gave her and I leaned against the doorframe, waiting for her to acknowledge my presence. 

“Don’t mess with that.” I ordered softly. 

Jayde’s eyes met mine through the reflection in the mirror and her jaw twitched for half a second at getting caught, “I’m not messing with it, I’m looking at it.” 

I gave her a stare to let her know that I wasn’t fooled, but she continued to act innocent and resumed her inspection of the healing injury. Her finger touched the areas where the wounds were deepest and she grimaced in pain, sucking in a quiet breath through her teeth. I sighed and came up behind her, reaching for her wrist and pulling it away from her shoulder. Then I put her bandage back into place. 

“Don’t mess with it.” I repeated with a sterner tone. 

“Who cares if I mess with it, it’s my own damn problem.” Jayde grumbled.

“As the person that stitched you up, I care.” I placed a kiss to the back of her wounded shoulder so she would actually hear my words. 

Jayde’s body released some of its lingering tension and she gave me an apologetic glance over her shoulder, letting out a tired breath through her nose, “You’re right, I’m just… still a little frustrated.” 

“I know, Jay.” I said in understanding. 

With everything that’s been on her shoulders lately, from planning to redirect a large group of hunters away from the Lodge to my friendship with Elaine making her uneasy, Jayde’s stress was taking a bit of a toll on her. Even then, she managed not to make an enemy of an ally today after things got unnecessarily tense. I was very pleased with her for that, despite the fact that she was the reason tension flared up in the first place. She wouldn’t be Jayde if she wasn’t overprotective, but I wanted her to understand the kind of responsibility she had, not just to me and her pack, but to everyone that stayed here. Jayde was one of the biggest reasons this place was still standing and I assumed she knew that much. She should realize that the other wolves here were just as worthy of her protection as her pack was. 

A little positive reinforcement couldn’t hurt either. I set my hands on her waist and pulled her against me until her back was pressed firmly to my front. Then I let my hands slowly caress up her sides before coming back down and squeezing her hips. 

“I’m really proud of you, by the way.” I spoke low into her ear, “For listening to me and apologizing to Elaine.” 

Jayde stiffened in recognition, but then her body gradually melted back against me. I nuzzled my face into the curve of her neck, letting my lips lightly glide over one of her scars. If I had the ability to hear her heart, I was sure its pace would be drumming erratically in my ears. A huge part of me wished that I was able to pick up on it. That desire was satiated when I felt her shiver as the tips of my fingers started to work their way underneath her shirt. 

“Y-yeah, of course.” Jayde stammered and I glanced at the mirror before us to see that her eyes were firmly locked on me, watching my every move. 

I smirked and dug my fingers into her skin, pushing my hips into hers and pinning her to the bathroom counter. A short gasp escaped her lungs, one that made her next inhale rattle unevenly. I held her there for a few moments, relishing the anticipation that hung in the air around us, and letting my hands brush up her toned abdomen. My hand worked its way under her sports bra for a teasing grab. Jayde’s breath completely hitched and I bit my lip at the sensation of warm, soft flesh underneath my touch. 

“I want you to hear me.” I whispered, my hands retreating down her sides to rest on her hips once more. Jayde tilted her head towards my mouth, letting me know that I had her undivided attention. “We’re on the right path to keeping everyone safe. There’s two sides here. Werewolves and Hunters. We have to work together with everyone to win this.” 

“I know you’re right.” Jayde agreed, sounding slightly breathless, “And I’ll do whatever it takes to keep you and the others safe.” 

I smiled at her in satisfaction through our reflection. My hands came around to her front and my fingers went to the button on her pants, undoing it slowly. “Good.”
