online communities are so strange because people slip away so easily. you can be on here for years, folding people you've never met into the fabric of your daily life, and then they disappear, leaving only ghost posts scattered across tumblr behind. or their blog stays dormant, for weeks, months, years, until you're only still following them because you remember that they love sunflowers or they were kind to you when they didn't have to be or the last thing they posted was sad and raw and you still worry about them sometimes.

and sometimes they come back when you least expect it, years later, even, and there's this sudden rush of relief like there you are, there you are, even though you barely knew each other.

there's a strange kind of love to it. i don't know you and i want to hold your hand across miles and time zones and oceans. i can still see the imprint of you in this community you left. you don't think anyone will notice or care when you're gone, but we notice and we care and we wish you well.

So like Arlecchino has the wholr Crimson Moon deal that basically 100% ties her to Khaenri'ah. And I was thinking. What if her X eyes are because she's a descendant of Khaenri'ah and there's something about her bloodline that means like. Either they've been exiled or they've been cursed so that the proof of their heritage (something that family likely would've been proud of since they were probably important) isn't there anymore and was literally Xed out. Like they were exiled by both Khaenri'ah and the gods. Was there a Crimson Moon Dynasty??? I can't remember but if there was then I guarantee you they probably had a big part in the Cataclysm and were cursed because of that. I mean we saw the Crimson Moon symbolism before with Khaenri'ah what with the WWBR trailer and that prophecy from Dain's announcement so we know it's related. And also the Traveler having a trauma reaction at the end of Arlecchino's story quest. And we know she's cursed too with the flames and also the black arms so it does match up kinda. And also she said she was raised in Fontaine not born there or that her bloodline is from there so that opens up the possibility that she was either born in what's left of Khaenri'ah or was born elsewhere to a Khaenri'ahn line

That's what I was thinking!!!! Like. Theres no way that there aren't people curious as to who Eight is. And Marina's mentioned Cuttlefish on there (and Agent 4 although not by name) so at this point Marina's fanbase has to be like "who are these people you are talking about Marina". I guarantee you someone in-universe is running a twitter account documenting every time Marina and Pearl mention Eight on their social media. And the fact that Marina only stopped referring to them as "Agent 8" recently must make them go insane too like what do you mean agent. Marina who the hell is your best friend and why are they an agent. AGENT FOR WHAT MARINA but every time someone asks about 8 in an interview they're just kinda like oh yeah they're a really good friend! and don't actually elaborate on who they're supposed to be. So despite being asked several times they give nothing away purely by accident and the fanbase is left like "who the hell is this person" every time.

I wonder what kind of theories people have. "Secret third member of Off The Hook", "8 is related to Marina or Pearl", bullshit theories that people have created because they have no clue who this person is. Eight probably reads all the discourse with the other agents and laughs

eight HAS to be famous in universe like. off the hook are so famous they're doing a world tour. marina's dev diaries are written like blog posts, and they're attached to her username - "DJ_Hyperfresh" - so it looks like they're definitely public??? and marina talks about eight on there SO MUCH. there's even AT LEAST one picture of them (last diary dev entry), even if it doesn't show their face. like. if nothing else there have got to be HORDES of off the hook fans out there desperate to know who this "eight" is and how they somehow became off the hook's closest friend
