News Update
Walgreens to pay $300M to settle federal allegations of illegally dispensing opioids and billing Medicare for invalid prescriptions.
From 2012–2023, Walgreens pharmacists allegedly filled millions of suspicious prescriptions — despite red flags.
The DOJ says Walgreens ignored internal data, pressured pharmacists to work fast, and failed to stop “trinity” drug combos often abused.
As part of the deal: 📌 $300M fine 📌 Potential $50M more if sold by 2032 📌 7-year DEA compliance agreement 📌 5-year HHS-OIG oversight
Whistleblowers who helped expose this will receive over $51M. “This is about accountability in the opioid crisis,” DOJ says https://newsmeapp.com/walgreens-to-pay-300-million-in-landmark-settlement-over-illegal-opioid-dispensing/
