This album is about how two men broke her heart just months apart and how she was quite literally going through a mental breakdown while trying to put on a front while performing for millions of people on a world tour but you wouldn’t know that because you’re either so caught up in trying to figure out who each song is about or your so caught up in your hate for her that you’d rather make fun of her in her most vulnerable, raw, and honest state just to make yourself feel better

Agreed! The wave of love she received during the US leg of the Eras Tour was amazing. She created such a special time for girls and women.

And now everyone wants to be the first person to correctly identify what’s wrong with her or how she’s a bad person, actually.

I’ve been a part of 7 album drop days and the days surrounding it. It used to be so much fun to go all over and see everyone’s takes on it. They don’t all need to be positive. They can be critiques.

But if you’re going to trash the music or lyrics, get the fuck out of here. You don’t even like her.

What are they doing about an album being about Matty? I’ve seen some Gaylors saying, “we thought it was Karlie when this whole time it was Matty. Now End Game makes sense. Now this lyric makes sense.” And I’ve seen really quiet spaces. But I’m scared to go outside happy cupcake tumblr for my Taylor content now.

I was shocked at first. Then when I got to listen to everything legally, I was SATISFIED. And then proud of her. I can’t believe she put herself out there in such a vulnerable way, looking pretty bad in various ways in this climate?!?! My god that takes balls. Especially at the height she’s at now.

Listen, I fully get Matty. I’ve had a Matty. I’ve had two, sorta. And I’ve had a Joe. And I’m over 40. I get this shit. I get nuance. I get growing up and it hurting and realizing hard truths about a guy you fantasized and built up in your head. I relate to it so much. I just can’t believe she put it out there. And good for her for admitting she was a huge part of the problem and it was self inflicted wounds.

Honestly? My head was DONE IN by that drop. While I’m ECSTATIC to have so many songs from her and so many done by Aaron too! - I’m also overwhelmed. And by the middle of Anthology they were blending together.

You may be right. I can hardly remember any songs off Anthology but Black Dog because of Habits Die SCREAMING!!!!

PS, I’m so sick of the cultural temperature around Taylor right now. These people have sucked so much of the joy out of release day.

I’ve got 7 album release days under my belt now and they’re fun even tho we don’t get as much as we used to leading up. And then I loved going all over places to see what thoughts were about the album.

And generally only swifties would post about it. People who don’t like her don’t listen. Except, now they do. It’s a sport. Hating Taylor is a sport. Taking her down is one too. It is for so many people these days. I’m so sick of it.

There’s absolutely nothing she can do right now that won’t be wrong or egregious or inappropriate in some way. People want to find fault in her. The tide has turned almost completely, except for the army of fans, and the general public who do not give a fuck even a little.

unrelated to the ongoing conversation but i just realised that in the alien-microwave-asylum-sterile, very not human imagery of it all she chose the name based on the two maybe most human things (torture and poetry) and it makes my heart warm for the reasons i cant explain yet, and i think the whole album is like that its devastating but with these invisible flickers of something hopeful and human that you cam only feel but dont know why

This is the current state of society. If you’re not audibly policing someone else’s business, insist on showing them the “correct” way, well, then you’re not a good person.

I just…people still really don’t get it. We don’t get to direct the lives of public figures. We don’t get to tell them who to be, who to date, what causes to be vocal about. Because public figures are still just people. Real people. And internet keyboard warriors not only don’t see it they don’t give a fuck that bullying these real actual human beings does nothing to further whatever agenda they have but does wound the real person behind the persona. All they care about is the illusion of moral purity and that just. Isn’t real. No one is morally pure. Do your best but it’s not black and white. I’m too tired to do this but How Did It End really is the story from beginning to end. The mutual suffering from mental illness, her retreat from the spotlight, trying to make themselves fit into each other’s lives, the attempts to play grown up, the intrusion of fame/celebrity, the breaks, the insinuation of infidelity, the gossip, the maybe allusion to a certain life event, the pulling away from each other, the prying eyes all around hunting for all the details…

the manuscript is so genius especially as the closer — a nod to the song that is widely considered her magnum opus, written about her first major heartbreak and the first time she was promised the world and had it ripped out from under her, how she periodically “returns to the manuscript” to look back and reflect, and then referencing the experience of directing actors to tell the story in the short film, and concluding that the story isn’t hers anymore — just like she says in the prologue that the events that are written about in TTPD are no longer her reality, just a snapshot of a moment in time, her “tears made sacred” by processing them through her art.
