Sola Fide Observatory

Just a little update on the fun project for the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center for the Sola Fide Observatory.  No one tells you as a freelancer how hard it can be to do your full time job and then grind to somehow create this thing from a few words and the other person's imagination.  This was a challenge to create these early stages of logos for the NC. After lots of brain power, coffee, good music and pure focus Im extremely excited with these 4 variations on what will eventually become the 1 logo for the Sola Fide Observatory. P.S. I’ve got one more surprise in the works for the Star Viewing party for June 27th so just wait, it’s going to be something you will want to buy ;)

Select Painting & Design in the workplace When a thought becomes the reality:  Something as simple as creating mini games for a company event that creates excitement to help drive the company forward in profit while having fun. I am blessed so many times while working with Select to do what I love and that is creating art and graphics. No rules, just people's imaginations and giddy excitement to make something happen. Total freedom of creating something from nothing is one of the most exciting and scary things a artist does. The unknown of what the finish product will look like.  More fun graphics & art to come from SP

Exciting new project in the works!!! Im excited to announce I will be working on a very special project for my friends at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center freelancing a logo and illustrated artwork for the Sola Fide Observatory!!! This logo will be used for a exciting event this summer (Will announced in the next few months). I’ve always loved pulling pranks in subtle ways that challenge the person in ways they didn't think they could be pranked. This past weekend after pet sitting for my cousin I thought it would be a fun little Saturday prank to scan a few of her photos and photoshop myself into her photos on a wall in the living room. I photoshopped these photos with precision in hopes to really confuse her.  It’s the little things that I hope I am able to make people laugh at. Fun and quick prank while keeping my photoshop skills up to par.

I had such a fun time playing with the Goodnight Theater Collective in the live showing of the Rocky Horror Show. 4 awesome sold out shows with an amazing cast of actors.

Fun new things happening with a group I am performing with for the theater group the Goodnight Theater Collective. I am excited to being part of the pit ensemble in doing the live music for the Rocky Horror Show. 4 awesome live shows where we will be performing for the Halloween week showing. Freelancing with Green Paws Pet Company

For the past 6 months I have been blessed with having my first freelance design experience in working with the "Healthy, Innovative. Eco-Friendly" pet company Green Paws.The company was invented and created by Patti & Kevin Weber in 2017. Green Paws aims to creating an eco-pet friendly litter system and other materials that is created from a very innovative system made from eco-friendly, biodegradable and compostable materials. 

 So far in my journey with Patti & Kevin, I have helped create and design an eye catching and appealing logo. Just recently we created a brochure  in connection with the University of Minnesota grad students as they begin sending word to people about their new products to follow with the help of KickStarter. My next big project to follow is creating/designing for their package design and other content needed for KickStarter. I hope you enjoy keeping up to date on my progress and the exciting growth of Green Paws as they get ready to launch their products in the future

Dover Eyota: Off Site Recording Session

Today was a day of choral off site recording session with the Dover Eyota choir.  The choral director wrote and had the high school choir help perform a special piece he wrote in response to a friend who had struggled with substance abuse. This piece in later date will be submitted in hopes for a Grammy Award. 

Gear Head: Equipment used in this live recording session is a very simple yet effective use of mic placement throughout the space. Recording program used was Pro Tools, and space we recorded in was an auditorium. 

Mics covering the piano (Pramberger) are 2 4050s both placed on the high and low ends inside of the piano to pick up for a full sound offering the rich range needed in the recording. The mics covering the choir were 2 990s on boom arms picking up overhead.  A piano blanket was used to keep any reflection received by the choir or outside ambiance and was dampened with gobos as well. We recorded 3 different variations of the song. Recording later to follow after mixing and editing.

Studio recording with Miriam Halleen

This past week I was fortunate to have recorded a  local artist from Rochester, Mn Miriam Halleen. In brief Zach Zurn (owner, producer & engineer) and I recorded two tracks for Miriam, the rough sample track provided is called Eyes Open Wide. Gear Head moment:  The microphones used in this studio session  was a Shure sm-7B (Vocal), AT4050, 211 & Di (guitar), and a D6, 211 Sennheiser on the percussive instruments. Another 4050 was placed behind Miriam to pick up the extra sounds needed to give her recordings a more ‘live’ sounding performance and an overall fuller sound that the other mics might not have picked up. The recording was done on Logic X Pro.

Live studio recording with David Nash @ café Steam

Had a fun and simple live recording experience this past weekend @ Cafe Steam, take a listen to a rough mix audio clip of The Painter (live Cafe Steam).  David Nash, born and raised in Rochester Mn, is a singer songwriter who said his music would fall into the category of folk singer songwriter with a deep, powerful voice, and rhythms with his acoustic guitar.  The location of the live studio recording was at Cafe Steam, Rochester Mn.  In the coffee shop 3 mics were set up, 2 mics that picked up the sound from the bridge of David’s guitar and ambient noise around the coffee shop was a AT4050 and a D7, the vocal was a Shure 58.  While recording we used Logic Pro x and hardware feeding into the computer was the Presonus & Tuscam.

Mixing & Mastering: June So Soft, Mel Murray

Today was a very unexpected and exciting day in mixing and mastering as I made my debut appearance as a sample voice actor in an song June So Soft, Mel Murray. Zach Zurn owner, producer and sound engineer has been producing for artist Mel Murray on an incredible song June So Soft.  In this short audio sample Zach had me set up a mic in the booth to create a high hat sound with my mouth to add texture to Mel’s track.  Upon further editing and mixing the high hat sample Zach had me create was then mixed to just the right sound he desired for this portion of the track in Logic Pro X.
