New interview up on Cosmonauts Avenue!
http://cosmonautsavenue.com/tiny-spills-alexandra-naughton/
Favorite lyric: Just thought, “and I don’t want the world to see me cuz I don’t think that they’d understand” but that’s definitely not it. Probably something from Ol Dirty Bastard, “you worms wanna play in my dirt!?”
Guilty literary pleasure: Reading the Dr. Bronner’s magic soap bottle in the shower.

chocolate cake
I'm at the laundromat doing laundry and waiting for the laundry to dry in the dryer and I take a walk to the coffee shop nearby where I sometimes go while I'm doing laundry and I order a large cup of coffee and the guy behind the counter is like "would you like a complimentary slice of cake" and I'm like "wow sure, thank you" and he's like "chocolate or white" so I say chocolate and the guy waiting for his coffee next to me says "hey how come you didn't offer me a slice of cake" and the guy behind the counter is like "would you like a slice a cake" and the guy waiting for his coffee says "no it's okay just wondering why you didn't offer me a slice but I understand" and I'm just standing here waiting for my coffee and I don't even really want the slice of cake I'm probably just going to take it home and put it in my fridge and like maybe have it later or share it with somebody but whatever I get my cup of coffee and a take out container with the cake and as I'm walking out of the coffee shop I pass by the other customer who was making a fuss about the cake and I say to him "do you want this slice" and present him the box and he shakes his head and he says "don't get fat off that slice of cake" and it's only just registering to me what he said as I'm halfway down the block and it's been too much time to reply and this is such an ordinary occurrence for me that it’s not even shocking it’s just dully frustrating.

AVAILABLE NOW!! PAPER FLOWERS, IMAGINARY BIRDS by Amy Saul-Zerby.
“Amy Saul-Zerby is a roller death derby of sharp and fast clarity … [H]er poems convey a blast of sass and short punchy wonder.” –Derrick Brown, Our Poison Horse (Write Bloody Publishing) “The smart, alluring voice we encounter in Amy Saul-Zerby’s Paper Flowers, Imaginary Birds is by turns zany, dark, casual, lyrical, angry, direct. I say voice, because these poems are constantly addressing us, implicating us as readers, as they map a psychological pathway through love, desire and pain always thrumming just beneath the surface. It’s a sophisticated voice and entirely contemporary, having learned as avidly from Confessionalism and the New York School as from social media. It’s a voice that longs for enlargement and anonymity at the same time; Amy Saul-Zerby’s poems themselves become places for hiding and places for being seen: ‘i am everything that i’m not / when i am a poem in your hands.’” –Richie Hofmann, Second Empire “Amy Saul-Zerby doesn’t know what a cliché is. Her poems are strange new flowers bursting from all angles out of everything.” –Bud Smith, F-250

"Remarkably real, Alexandra Naughton’s “American Mary” is one of the most passionately felt books I have ever read. Finally there is a book that captures what it means to feel tired and depressed while still being young" - Beach Sloth
Books make great gifts and also carry a bevy of household uses! A book can be placed in between your washer/dryer so the machine doesn't shake too much. Buy American Mary for someone you love or don't like very much!!
