Hi, I’m Charlie.
You know when you’ve been out of school for a while and then come back and try to read scholarly shit again, either from someone else or something you wrote, and you have to read it 17 more times before you can pedal fast enough to understand what the fuck is happening? It’s like Flowers for Algernon, but it’s you, which is really scary, and you become both the dumbest person you know because “Why can’t I understand this? WHAT HAPPENED TO MY BRAIN?” but also the smartest person you know because eventually you figure it out and think “Good God I wrote this? Damn, I’m a genius!”
#deep thoughts#reflecting#self revelation#flowers for algernon#humble brag#procrastinating because I'm on page two and this is finally starting to make some goddamn sense

Father’s Day means thinking about the stories Dad’s told me growing up, the inside jokes, and the stories I’ve heard told about him and us. Example: he sang me “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” as a baby, because he didn’t know (like?) other nursery rhymes. It’s sitting here at my job at the rafting company and being thankful that he tossed me in a raft in middle school (and on the back of a JetSki at 7) with full-blown confidence that obviously I would be able to handle myself. Thanks for the lasting confidence and pride you’ve given me, and cheers to many more memories and good times to come. Love you, Pops.

More adulting. This is my new Saturday night jam. Chicken pot pie and white wine! First go at this, so here's hoping it takes good too.

Welp. It only took 4 days to fail to post. But! I did get to the bank before it opened to deposit checks, I successfully contested a parking ticket, and watched three complete World Cup games. So not a total failure.

Today, I got my first business card. I think that’s the epitome of adulting. 28 feels good and grown-up, mostly because I’m now eligible for those free food drawings at Chipotle and other such places.

Last night's Mario Party 1 game, leaving me temporarily branded in victory. My evidence: the blisters on my palm from Tug o'War and Paddle Battle. Birthday Eve was pretty happening.

In two hours and twenty-five minutes, I will be 28. I love writing and found a lot of comfort in it through high school and college but let it get away from me. So, my goal is 365 days of cataloguing thoughts, outlining stories and memorable moments, and maybe a few photos to go with it. I'm not aiming for so many fully fledged and edited blog posts, but more consistent production of content and accountability to myself. So, here goes nothing.
