Beach Day - A Kelley O’Hara Imagine
This prompt was gifted to me by one of the best writers that I know AKA @imaginesforyourfandom and I am very grateful that you trusted me with this one.
Kelley’s POV
I heard the snap of two fingers in my left ear and jumped, turning towards the source of the noise.
“Earth to Kelley” Christen said from behind me, “Hurry up, if we don’t leave now, we’ll never get to the airport in time” She adds, stuffing her swim suit in her bag.
I got up from my seat at the table, taking my coffee cup and putting it in the dishwasher.
“Where’s my towel” I hear Christen say from the other side of the apartment we shared in Utah.
“I don’t know, maybe you left it to dry and forgot it there” I replied, hearing a “Found it” coming from her room.
I had been feeling really down for the last couple of days because the injury to my ankle was back and I hadn’t been able to actually play soccer for over a month and I missed it. My boot was finally off now, which was a good sign. Christen had offered to take me with her to visit Tobin in Portland for the long weekend. I had yet to prepare a bag for the weekend and I knew Christen was trying to get there as early as possible so she wouldn’t miss a second of her time with her girlfriend. I went to my room and packed all that I needed to go, not forgetting to pack the things I needed to go to the beach because both girls really wanted to go at least once during the weekend.
“Are you done?” I heard from the living room and headed towards the voice with all my stuff in hands.
“I am” I said as I rounded the corner, heading for the door “let’s just go”
We headed to the airport and boarded our plane that was taking us to Portland.
Being on the national and playing for the USWNT meant I had to take the plane very often. I was used to it by now. The flight was only an hour and a half long. I used this time to read the book Alex had suggested I get on our last phone call. Thankfully I hadn’t forgotten my iPad at home.
After landing, we took our belongings and exited the plane. Tobin was waiting for us and Christen kept her cool, not wanting suspicions about her and Tobin’s relationship to resurface. She loved Tobin, but she preferred their private lives remained private.
“Hey Tobs, it’s good to see you” I said, embracing the taller girl after Christen had hugged her.
“Good to see you too, Kel” Tobin replied after we hugged, taking Christen’s bag and starting to guide us out of the airport and towards her car.
“What do you say we go home to change and then head to the beach right after?” Tobin asked, settling herself in the driver’s seat of her car.
“I like that idea” Christen replied, then looking back at me from the passenger seat “what do you think, Kelley?” She asked, smiling at me.
“Yeah, I don’t mind” I said, smiling back at her.
When we got to the apartment Christen Kissed Tobin for the first time since we got here and I went to change, letting them have their moment, knowing they were going to have to leave each other soon.
“Alright, are we ready for the beach everyone?” Tobin asked after coming out of her room
Everyone nodded and we left, getting into Tobin’s car and heading towards the beach.
The beach wasn’t full, which was comforting. We laid our towels on the hot sand and I watched as both of my national teammates left to go for a swim. I laid on my towel, wanting the hot sun to burn my skin gently. After a while I felt water on my tummy, and I opened my eyes. Christen was smiling brightly at me, the water from her hair dropping on me.
“Why don’t you join us, Kel?” Christen asks, with pleading eyes.
“I don’t know. I’m kind of in the mood to just sunbathe” I reply, earning a little pout from the girl in front of me.
“Come on, you love swimming” The taller girl said, handing me her hand to help me up.
“Fine” I say, taking Christen’s hand and letting her pull me up.
The water is cold on my feet and I let Christen pull me in towards Tobin, deeper in the water. We talk for a bit, about our time on the national team, about the world cup and our club teams. We could easily stand and have water up our hips but crouching allows the water to cover our bodies to our shoulders and helps us stay warmer.
“I’m gonna head back to shore for a little bit, I’m thirsty. You guys coming?” Tobin asked, getting up.
“Yeah, I have an apple I want to eat” Christen says, getting up as well “You coming Kel?”
“I’m gonna wait for you guys here” I say, smiling at them.
“We aren’t gonna be long don’t worry, we’ll bring the volleyball to play a little bit” Tobin said before they turned their backs and left.
I was relaxing, not really paying attention to the world surrounding me. I just felt my back being pushed and I fell over. I felt a weight on me, preventing me from pulling myself out of the water. At this point I couldn’t really breathe. I felt my body being lifted and my head was above water finally.
I was chocking on water, unable to take a proper breath and I felt an arm around my shoulders, guiding me towards the beach.
“Try to breathe” the stranger beside me said. “I need you to try to breathe” she repeated, calmly.
Finally, the water came out and I could take good breaths. Once we reached a quiet spot of the beach, the stranger sat me down on the sand, and I finally saw her face. She was beautiful. Her eyes were bright, but worried. Her hair fell in a ponytail on her shoulder, one loose strand falling lazily on her face. I smiled at her, involuntarily and she smiled back. A smile so bright it could have replaced the sun if it couldn’t shine anymore.
“How are you feeling?” She asked me, a voice sweet and gentle.
“I think I’m okay” I tell her, half heartedly, knowing she’ll probably leave once she sees I’m fine. I don’t want her to go just yet.
“Can I ask you a few questions?” She asks, and I nod, earning a smile.
“What’s your name?”
“I’m Kelley, Kelley O’Hara” I state, not really sure if she’d know who I am.
“Wait, soccer player Kelley O’Hara?” She asks me, I smile in response. “No way, okay that’s very cool. I love soccer. I’ve watched the World Cup, I loved it. You guys killed it” She says, half rambling.
“What’s your name?” I ask and her eyes light up.
“I’m (Y/N)” She says “But I’m the one who’s supposed to be asking the questions here” she states and smiles softly.
“Kel what the hell happened?” I heard Christen’s concerned tone from behind me.
I turn around to face her and Tobin.
“To be completely honest, I have no idea” I reply, then turning around towards (Y/N).
“These kids where playing in the water and they didn’t see you. One of them jumped on you and you went under” She states, looking at me.
“Thank god you were there” I say, winking at her and I swear I can see a blush on her cheeks.
“Just doing my job” She replies, “Which is why I should probably go” She says standing up.
I stand up after her.
“Wait” I say, getting her to look at me. “Could I maybe get your number?” I ask, feeling confident, earning a smile from the slightly taller girl.
“sure” She says, sweetly
“Here” Christen says, handing me my phone from the bag of stuff she was carrying.
I hand the phone to (Y/N) and watch her as she writes down her number into it. She gives it back to me with a smile.
“See you around, Kelley” She says before turning around and heading towards her lifeguard watching spot.
I smile as I watch her leave, turning around to see both Tobin and Christen grinning at me.
“What?” I ask, looking at both of them.
“How do you just happen to almost drown and get a cute girl’s number in the same ten minutes?” Tobin asks, looking at my phone.
“I guess I just have that power” I say, making both of them roll their eyes at me.
I look down at my phone as we are getting in the car and look at the new contact. She saved herself as lifesaver, and to be honest, it fits her perfectly.
The End

I Miss You - A Kelley O’Hara Imagine
This is way longer than I ever wanted it to be, but oh well, I hope you enjoy. This one is dedicated to @horanimal
(Y/N) POV
It’s been five months since the world cup has ended and with it, your relationship with Kelley O’Hara. Both of you had decided that after the hecticness that had been the world cup it would be best to go your own way so you could find yourselves again. Not that it was an easy thing to do because she was the love of your life, but alas, even fairy tales weren’t perfect and even though you weren’t together anymore, you still loved her immensely.
Today, however, was the first time you would see her in almost three months because you had training with the national team in preparation for the She Believes Cup. You didn’t know how you would react to seeing Kelley with her new girlfriend, well, you believed it was her girlfriend. They both had been photographed leaving a restaurant in Atlanta and you felt like a nail had been put in your heart. You were happy that she was happy, because you couldn’t wish for her never to fall in love again, that would be selfish.
You head to the door, keys in hand and send a text to Alex who you were supposed to get before heading to the stadium. You get in your car and head towards her apartment, passing you and Kelley’s favorite coffee shop, getting emotional for some reason, but brushing it off, thinking that it’s probably because you’ll be seeing her soon.
You reach Alex’s apartment and text her to hurry, knowing you have to push her a little if you want to be on time for training. You see her heading out the door and wait for her to get in. She smiles at you as she opens the passenger side door, getting in.
“Good morning” you say, smiling back at her.
“Good morning!” she replies, looking very energized for some reason.
“What’s got you so hyped this morning?” you ask, pulling out of the driveway.
“Oh nothing” she replies, “How are you feeling?” she asks, pulling out her phone and texting someone.
“I’m fine, didn’t get much sleep last night, but I should be alright” you state, looking at her playing with her phone and then back at the rode.
“Feeling nervous about seeing her?” Alex asks and you don’t really know what to tell her.
After Kelley and you broke up, Alex was there for you and helped you as much as she could. She became some sort of confident, an hear who listened and arms who hugged and made you feel comfortable. Her living so close to you had certainly been a help too. You knew she would be there if need be. However, you sometimes felt bad talking to her about everything because she was still Kelley’s best friend, and that wasn’t about to change.
“You lost or?” Alex asks, pulling you out of your thoughts.
“I’m not lost, we come here every week” You reply, turning onto the street and heading towards the parking lot.
“I’m not talking about the stadium” Alex states, unbuckling her seat belt as you stop the car in your usual spot.
You started training with Alex for the LA Archangels when the club was announced, you would be starting the next season with the club. The new stadium was perfect for a few games during the She Believes Cup and you were looking forward to playing there for the first time, in a few weeks.
“I don’t know, Alex, I don’t really know how I feel about the whole thing” you reply on your way to the stadium to get ready for training.
“Are you going to talk to her” Alex asks, not really doubting that you would.
“It’s not like I really have a choice, we play on the same team” you state, earning a knowing look from Alex.
“Plus, you’re still madly in love with her” Alex teases, opening the gate for you as you roll you eyes, and you head in.
“It’s not like she isn’t happy with someone else, there is no point in telling her”
“She might, or maybe she isn’t, but you know, what would I know anyway” Alex states, hinting to something, but subtly.
“Can we not talk about that anymore, don’t want indiscrete ears hearing about it and making a big deal out of it” you say, opening the door to the locker room, saying hello to your national teammates, and heading towards your locker, then taking your stuff out and changing.
You’re tying your shoes when the door opens, and from then on, the air feels different.
“Sorry guys thought I’d be late again” the voice makes your heart skip a beat. Even after all this time, her voice manages to make you forget everything and just feel like it’s going to be okay. You think about what you and Alex spoke about on the way here and think that maybe you should tell her how you feel, maybe she did feel the same way, after all. Maybe you finally found yourselves and can now find each other again.
You finally look up, catching glimpses of her, but everything stops when your eyes follow down her arm and see the little hand attached to it. A cute little girl, holding a teddy bear, is looking in awe at the people in the room.
“Guys this is Elise, she’s Kate’s daughter and I told her I’d bring her with me today because she wanted to meet all of you” Kelley says, looking at the little girl who looked up at her and smiled brightly.
Alex looked over at you, smiling sadly, seeming confused about the whole thing. your heart sinks to your chest at the mention of Kate, Kelley’s new girl. you headed outside, alone, after you were ready and headed towards the goal with a few balls. You proceed to hit a few in the goal, not really thinking about what you’re doing, lost in thoughts, when you hear her voice again, behind you, but this time, she’s talking directly at you.
“(Y/N), are you trying to exhaust yourself before practice?” Kelley’s voice is soft, but playful. However, you feel like she’s being careful.
“I’m just warming up” you reply, not looking at her and hitting the ball back in the goal.
“Wanna do passes instead?” Kelley asks, her voice sounds hopeful.
“Sure” you reply, turning around and passing her the ball.
You go back and forth for a few minutes in silence as your other teammates start walking out onto the pitch. The air feels loaded with words left unspoken and tension, but you stay silent.
“I passed by G&B coffee this morning” Kelley says as you are about to hit the ball and it’s enough for you to completely miss your pass.
Kelley has to run to her left to stop the ball from going to the middle of the field
“You did?” you say, mentally slapping yourself for the way you reacted.
“Yeah…” Kelley trails off, hitting the ball towards you “I thought of you”
Your heart sinks even further in your chest and you try not to let it show on your face. Why on earth does it hurt like this. The break up was mutual, you both agreed that you needed time apart to find yourselves and you did find yourself and through all of that self discovering, you discovered a missing piece to your puzzle. That missing piece was Kelley; however, Kelley had found her own missing piece in the process and it wasn’t you, it was Kate, and her daughter. And no matter how much you hated it, you needed to be happy for her, because she needed to be happy, even if it wasn’t with you.
“I miss that place” you say, controlling your voice, but failing as it trembles a little bit.
“I miss you” the words are rushed out of Kelley’s mouth and at first, you’re not sure if you heard them write. As you’re about to reply, Jill cuts you off.
“All right everyone!” you turn your attention to midfield where Jill is motioning for everyone to come join her.
Everyone walks to midfield and waits for explanations on what to do.
“So as the first training for the She Believes Cup, I wanted to see where you guys were at and have a little bit of a match between all of you, I’ve pre selected the teams and-“ Jill keeps talking, but your mind is not there anymore because Kelley is getting to close for comfort. At first, you felt her presence behind you, like a constant reminder that she was, in fact, there. Next, you feel her breath in your neck and try to relax while everything in you is screaming for you to turn around and kiss her. Now, her elbow is brushing yours, ever so lightly and nothing around you matter except that. You don’t know how you’ll manage to stay in this position any longer. Her hand brushes over yours and your fingers go numb. You feel like you’re about to pass out when Jill finally break the huddle and sends the team off to start the game. You no longer feel Kelley on you, and even though you are glad, you’re a little bit disappointed, cold.
Alex pulls on your hand when she see you’re not moving.
“Come on, you’re with me” She says, pulling you to the little huddle that had formed just past the circle on your side of the pitch. There stood Becky, Ali, Ashlyn, Julie, Rose, Sam, crystal, Lyndsey, Christen, Tobin, Alex and you.
“Alright, we need to bring our A game to this game” Becky started “but no one gets hurt, and before you say anything, (Y/N), not even them” she adds, looking at you, absolutely serious.
“Can’t promise anything” you reply, trying to get your head in the game.
The game starts and both sides really wan to impress so, of course, everyone brought they A game. Alex manages a goal pretty early on, but it’s the only one of the first half. During the Half, Jill, Dawn and the training staff had prepared some drinks for everyone to help you stay hydrated in the hot LA sun. You happily took the cup that was presented to you and drank, feeling yourself get tired and knowing that the almost all-nighter that you pulled wasn’t going to help you for the rest of training. You feel someone nudge your hip and turn around, not seeing right away who it was until your eyes look lower at the pair of blue eyes looking at you.
“Are you, (Y/N)?” the little girl asks you and you kneel in front of her.
“I am” you reply, trying to act as nice to this little human as possible because none of it was her fault and you knew that.
“Auntie Kelley talks a lot about you. You really are as pretty as she says” you’re shocked by that, but don’t have time to question her because two hands wrap behind her and pull her up.
“What did I say about bothering during training El?” Kelley asks the little girl who settles into her arms like she’s done it a million times before.
“That I can talk to them only after training is over” Elise replies guiltily at Kelley who shakes her head playfully at her. She looks like she’s her mother, you think. I used to think we were going to have children together. Now I don’t even know if I want children without her, you think to yourself. She would be a great mother.
“(Y/N), you okay?” You hear from beside you and turn to see Alex with a worried look on her face.
“Sure, I’m fine” you say as you look at Kelley playing with Elise on the pitch, so gentle.
“(Y/N), I’m serious look at me” Alex says, finally gaining your interest.
“What?” you ask, slightly irritated, eyes watery and Alex knows it all too well, the look you get when you’re about to cry.
“We are going to head to the bathroom for a sec” Alex states, earning whatever looks from the team.
She pulls you towards the locker room, quickly, trying to hide you from the team, knowing you didn’t want to cry in front of them. She sits you down on a bench and kneels in front of you.
“Talk” Alex says, knowing that whatever was bothering you needed to come out in order for you to feel better.
“It’s just… a lot, you know” you say, your eyes already spilling tears on your face, not being able to hold them in anymore. “I used to see my whole life with her, but now, she’s got a whole life with somebody else” you conclude, now ugly crying on Alex’s back because she couldn’t stand not hugging you right now. Alex keeps holding you close for as long as you need her too, and let’s you tears wet her shirt. She wasn’t used to seeing you like this. Usually, you’d get upset and a few tears would occasionally graze your face, but today, it felt different and Alex couldn’t help but ache for you.
“I got you, (Y/N), I got you” she says in your ear and you swear it makes you feel better, for a moment, at least. You pull back, trying to dry your face and knowing your eyes are probably very red at the moment. You hate feeling like this, so, vulnerable.
It takes a while before you both head back to the field and once you’re there, you’re pulled aside by Christen.
“Pretty great stadium, future Archangel” Christen teases as she walks with you around the field.
“It is” you agree, walking close to her, hoping your eyes won’t betray that you’ve been crying.
“Are you excited for the season to start?”
“I am”
“You know were gonna beat your ass, right?” Christen teases, earning a smile from you.
“Yeah, in your dreams Press” you tease, and she smiles back at you. You look around instinctively looking for Kelley but can’t find her anywhere. Alex is MIA too.
“You know, we miss you in Utah, I mean, I know I do, Becky too and… Kelley” you feel this one right in the throat, cutting air supply.
Christen is silent, knowing she’s struck a sensitive chord. You feel like she’s edging on the subject, wanting to keep talking about it, but you don’t give her the chance too.
“I think I left my drink with Alex” you say, walking back towards the bench, leaving christen all alone in the middle of the field.
When Jill calls back everyone at midfield, you start walking towards her, but feel a nudge on your shoulder. You turn around to see Kelley uncomfortably close.
“Can we talk, after?” the request is simple and almost quiet. Quiet enough that you almost wouldn’t have heard it if she hadn’t been so close to you.
You nod your head, trying to forget about it as you head towards Jill, but fail miserably. The request follows you through the second half, distracting you from the game enough that you run right into Kelley after receiving the ball and fall flat on your back.
“Are you okay?” Kelley asks, getting close and wanting to offer you a hand. Your reply is harsher than you intended as you get up on your own.
“I’m fine”
You run back further away from her, frustrated in yourself for getting so distracted. Suddenly, you feel dizzy. You don’t why, if it was because of the collision, the heat or the fact that you hadn’t drank enough at half time and instead cried for ten minutes or because she was here, offering you a hand, a hand that was no longer yours.
Alex catches you, seeing it right away in your features that something is wrong. She lays you don’t on the turf, your legs unable to hold your own weight.
“Hey, (Y/N), what’s going on?” Alex asks, kneeling beside you and signaling to the training staff that something was wrong.
“I feel dizzy” you reply, not really able to keep your eyes open as the sun is shining brightly on you.
You had a heatstroke and therefor had to stay on the sidelines for the rest of the game with lots of water and cooling pads. You felt like shit. Maybe if you’d slept better.
You feel a presence by your side and look. It’s Elise, she’s watching the game closely, her eyes locked on Kelley with a concentrated look on her face. You can’t really blame her, Kelley is pretty much who you’re looking at the whole time too. Another wave hits you, but this time you know what it is. Jealousy. Jealousy had been an old friend, at this point. You first met her when you and Kelley had split, and she had followed you through lonely nights and Instagram posts. You hated jealousy, or how she made you feel because wherever jealousy was, selfishness followed and you did feel selfish for wanting Kelley to remain all yours after you broke up, but you couldn’t help it, you still loved her. This time, jealousy is there because of Elise, because she has the life you had wanted for your kids. Jealousy was tempting you, but you weren’t going to let her win, not this time, at least.
Jill blew the whistle, signaling the end of the game. Your team had won, not by a lot, but they had won anyways. Everyone was now heading towards you and you felt yourself tense up at the memory of you agreeing to talk to Kelley after the game. She looks at you and nods her head, motioning towards the locker room, hoping you’ll have time to talk before the team heads inside to change. You get up slowly, heading towards the locker room, Kelley following closely behind.
“What did you want to talk about” you ask once you’ve reached the locker room.
“I miss you” Kelley states.
“You’ve mentioned that” you reply, not really knowing where she was going with this.
“No, I mean yes I have, but not really” Kelley says, seeming lost in thoughts and you let her talk, knowing there is no good in talking when she’s in this state.
“I don’t just miss you, (Y/N), I-“ Kelley cuts herself off, walking towards you.
“I don’t just miss you as an, it’s been a few weeks let’s get coffee, or it’s been a few years how are the kids, or-“ Kelley seems hesitant, but keeps talking.
“I miss you as an, I need you back by my side” Kelley finally manages to say, “I miss you as an, you were my whole life and since you’re gone, I can’t find happiness in the smallest things like I used too. I miss you as an, I still love you (Y/N)” Kelley concludes looking at you with sad eyes.
“What about Kate? And Elise? Isn’t that your family now?” you ask, confused as to where this was coming from “You seem happy, with them” you state, your eyes watering and your voice trembling.
“Kate is a friend who I sometimes help out with her daughter because she works a lot” Kelley states “We’ve been close friends but nothing more than that” Kelley adds, taking a step towards you again.
“I’ve been trying, for months to forget about you, to find myself, find my peace and all I could come back to was you (Y/N), because you are my peace. You are my everything and I don’t want to live without you anymore” Kelley says and this time it’s you who walks close, taking her face into your hands and kissing her softly, never wanting to let go of her ever again.
“I love you too” you say, finally able to talk after breaking off the kiss.
“Let’s be together again, I don’t want to be apart anymore” Kelley says, her hands still on your hips, yours on the back of her neck.
“I don’t want to be apart anymore either” you reply, peaking her lips.
“Fucking finally!” you hear Alex’s voice behind you and turn around, caught. “Thank you, Alex, for helping us find our way back to each other” Alex says, half kidding getting closer to the two of you. “I missed my best friends” she says, hugging the both of you and you hug her back.
“Auntie Kelley?” Elise says, tugging on Kelley’s shorts from inside our little hug.
“Hey kiddo” Kelley says, breaking from the hug and taking the little girl into her arms.
“Are you happy, now, Auntie Kelley. Now that you are back to being friends with (Y/N)?” the little girl asks, innocently.
“I am, kiddo, I really am” Kelley says, earning a cute little smile from the small girl in her hands.
“Does that mean I have two aunties now?” Elise asks, looking at you.
“You sure do kid” you reply to her, smiling brightly and she smiles back at you just as much.
Kelley starts spinning her around and lifting her up, goofing around with the kid.
Looking at the scene, you can’t help but think of how good a mother Kelley will be when you both start you family together. You loved her and now nothing was going to take that away from you.
The End

Turn Back Time - A Kellex Fanfic
I posted this one to my Archive of our own, but thought why not post it to my blog also. This is a little bit different then what I’ve already written, but I hope you like it.
It’s five am and Alex is finally heading to bed, the events of the day finally settling into her, like coursing through her veins, as well as the alcohol she’s drunk all night. It’s five am and Alex is a world champion. It’s five am and Alex is a crying world champion. It’s five am.... and Alex can’t fall asleep. It’s five am and Alex is sad and lonely...
It’s four am and Alex is walking back to the hotel with tears in her eyes. It’s four am and Alex is drunk and sad and mad and a world champion, but somehow that isn’t enough. It’s four am and she can’t help but be mad at herself for what she has just done, for how she has acted tonight, for what she has said.
It’s three am and Alex is leaving the party, angry, sad, rejected and mostly, alone. It’s three am and the realization of what she has just done finally settles into her. It’s three am and Alex is scared that she might have ruined everything that was still standing in her life. It’s three am and Alex is sitting on a bench on the streets of Lyon, drunk, lonely, sad. The tears streaming down her face aren’t happy tears like she’d hoped. They’re angry tears, sad tears, lonely tears. It’s three am and a photographer tries taking her photo, which really isn’t a good thing right now. It’s three am and she’s leaving the scene like her life depends on it, like she needs more space to breathe. It’s three am and the photographer is confused, but lets her go, disappointed in the poor shot he got, unable to capture the world champion’s face.
It’s two am and Kelley is crying and shaking her head. It’s two am and Kelley is crying after having won a World Cup. It’s two am and Kelley is crying after having won a World Cup because Alex is in love with her. It’s two am and Kelley is crying after having won a World Cup because Alex is in love with her, and it’s too late. It’s two am, and it’s too late for Kelley to be able to reciprocate Alex’s feelings because Kelley is in love with someone else. It’s too late because if Alex had come up with this sooner than maybe... But now it’s two am and it’s too late for Kelley to love Alex, even though she does love her, but It’s too late.
It’s one am and Alex is dancing her ass off with her teammates. It’s one am and Alex is on top of a bar, champagne bottle in hand and living her best life... well... almost. It’s one am and Alex is dancing on a bar top when she catches glimpses of Kelley, far in the distance, dancing with her friends and her girlfriend. It’s one am and Alex feels sick to her stomach, but not because of all the alcohol she’s ingested. It’s one am and Alex is in love with Kelley. It’s one am and Alex had always been in love with Kelley. It’s one am and Alex almost slips from the bar top. She’s a little bit tipsy, she says, trying to hide the obvious, after Allie catches her. Careful she tells her and suggests she climb down. It’s one am when Alex makes up her mind and asks Kelley if they can go talk in private somewhere. It’s one am when Kelley agrees, smiling cheekily. It’s one am when they reach a quiet corner of the otherwise very loud bar. It’s one am when Alex throws herself in Kelley’s arms, hugging her like it might be the last. It’s one am and Kelley is confused but blames it on the alcohol and her small concussion. It’s one am and Kelley hugs Alex back, tightly, comfortably. And it’s still one am when Alex looks at Kelley with tear filled eyes and says a short sentence that feels like is never going to end. It’s one am when Alex finally tells Kelley, I’m in love with you.
It’s midnight when they reach the bar and start drinking again. It’s midnight and Alex is drinking her life away, hoping alcohol will make everything better. It’s midnight and Servando is next to her, but he isn’t really. It’s midnight and his head is back at his hotel, where his girlfriend is waiting patiently for him to finish pretending he’s still Alex’s husband. It’s midnight and Alex knows he doesn’t want to be there. It’s midnight when she tells him he should go. Thank you for coming, she says. To these people, we’re still married, he reminds her. Like she has forgotten. It’s midnight and Alex hasn’t forgotten that her and Servando are not husband and wife anymore. It’s midnight and it’s all she can think of really. All she can think of, well, that and the one she has secretly been wishing would fill the hole in her stomach. It’s midnight and Alex is looking at Kelley from across the room. It’s midnight and Kelley isn’t even looking back. Instead, she’s hugging her girlfriend. It’s midnight and Alex feels a spike of jealousy, again. It’s midnight and it should be her in Kelley’s arms, warm and comfortable, safe.
It’s nine pm and they are celebrating in the locker room. It’s nine pm and there is champagne everywhere. It’s nine pm and Kelley is drinking and dancing and jumping and Alex can’t help but smile at her. It’s nine pm and Alex can’t help but feel lighter.
It’s eight pm and they are almost done celebrating on the field. It’s eight pm and Alex is trying hard not to be sick when Kelley jumps up to reach and kiss her girlfriend. It’s eight pm and Alex walks to the stands and pulls herself up to kiss Servando, like it’ll make it go away. It’s eight pm when she apologizes to Servando for kissing him on camera, knowing he isn’t alone in Lyon and that his girlfriend might not like seeing them kiss, even if it’s just for show.
It's seven pm and Alex is taking pictures with Kelley and Allie on the field. It’s seven pm and they have just won the 2019 Women’s World Cup for the second time in a row. It’s seven pm and Kelley is jumping up and down on the field, flag on her back, next to Alex, whose heart feels like it might just jump out of her chest cavity and explode because the way Kelley is looking at her is making her want to kiss her right then and there. It’s seven pm and Alex doesn’t kiss Kelley.
It’s six pm and Kelley hits heads with another player on the pitch. It’s six pm and Alex is worried, because Kelley isn’t getting up. It’s six pm and when Kelley finally gets up, Alex seems relieved, and when Kelley is subbed off at half time, Alex can’t help but feel grateful. It’s six pm and Alex feels selfish for being grateful Kelley isn’t playing the second half. It’s five pm and they are in the tunnel, about to head to the field for the game that could change the face of women’s soccer. It’s five pm when Alex heads out of line and walks over to Kelley. A smile from her and she feels like she’s about to melt. A quick hug and a good luck out there are all she can manage in the moment.
But now it’s five am and Alex is laying in bed, with tears in her eyes, thinking about all that she’s lost in the last hours. It’s five am and she’s thinking of Rio 2016, when they lost way too early in the tournament and Kelley was there, caressing her back as they cried together in their hotel room, laying on the same bed. It’s five am and Alex is thinking about the 2015 World Cup in Canada, and the way she almost let the words slip out of her mouth right when they won. I love you. Back then she wasn’t as confident, or perhaps, drunk, as she had been tonight. It’s five am and Alex thinks back on her wedding day and the way she had felt so conflicted with everything. She had known, back then, she had known than she wanted Kelley. It’s five am and Alex knows that if she had just told Kelley back then than maybe it could have been, but with Servando it was easy, familiar and reassuring. While the possibility of being with Kelley, back then was… scary.. She wasn’t ready to make the jump, not yet, so instead she settled for easy, a nice guy who could treat her right. But, with time, Alex realised that being married to Servando wasn’t what she wanted, realised that in difficult times, her mind would wonder what Kelley was doing, Where Kelley was, who she was with, how much better it would be if she was here, with her. It’s five am and Alex remembers the day the papers were signed, officialising the divorce and how bad she had wanted to call Kelley. She had, in fact, called her, but Kelley was in Utah, playing against Portland and therefore, did not answer. When Kelley called back, Alex didn’t feel like talking anymore, and ignored the call, even though she missed Kelley. It’s five am and Alex misses Kelley, even if she has seen her only hours ago. It’s five am and Alex feels like she’ll miss Kelley forever because Kelley doesn’t love her back, at least, not in the way she wishes Kelley could love her. It’s five am and Alex knows it’s selfish to want Kelley to love her, because Kelley is already in love with someone else.
It’s six am and Alex is still crying, only softer, and exhausted. It’s six am and there’s a knock on the door. Alex almost doesn’t hear it between her sniffles. She hesitates for a moment before getting up and heading for the door, doing her best to dry the tears on her face. It’s six am when Alex opens the door, revealing a crying Kelley. After a moment too long, Kelley enters the room and heads straight for the chair near the window. Alex hangs in the door frame a little longer, trying to piece herself back together, looking into the hallway. It’s six am when Alex takes a deep breath and heads back into her room. It’s six am when Kelley stands up and motions for Alex to sit down on her bed. It’s six am and Kelley is pacing the room back and forth, trying to collect her thoughts and wondering how to start. It’s six am when Kelley stops and looks at Alex’s face, her heart feeling cold in her chest, feeling like she is the reason for all of this. It’s six am when Kelley finally settles on where to start.
“It’s you, Alex” Kelley starts, earning a look from the shattered looking brunette. “It’s always been you.” Alex is confused but lets her continue. “It’s been you since we met, at that first nationals camp, back in 2009 when you smiled at me and told me my goal was great. It’s been you since we lost in 2011 at the World Cup, and we laid in bed together, frustrated and vowing never to let that happen to us ever again. It’s been you since the Olympics in 2012 when we won and you hugged me and I kissed your neck and frankly, Alex, your neck really wasn’t what I wanted to kiss in that moment. It’s been you since we moved to LA together for three months. Everyday of those three months felt like a living dream and I never wanted it to end. It’s been you since the day it did end, and we went back to our separate lives and I missed you every single day because you weren’t there to brush my teeth anymore or try my food and tell me how terrible it was but eating it all anyways. It’s been you since I got a girlfriend, and every time I kissed her, I pictured your face, and still it wasn’t enough. It’s been you since you got married and I came to your wedding and I watched you give your entire life to someone who wasn’t me, someone who made you happy in the way that I should. It’s been you since I cried for days after the wedding and got into a fight with my girlfriend because, why would I be so upset for no reason, because there was a reason and she couldn’t stay when she figured out what that reason was. It’s been you since the 2015 World Cup, when we won for the first time together and it felt like a fucking dream, and all I wanted to do was run up to you and kiss you, right after I scored my first goal against Germany, but my girlfriend was right there and Servando was two feet away from her and it would have been wrong. It’s been you since Rio 2016, when we lost and we laid in bed together and I rubbed your back while we both cried, reminiscing the promise we had made years ago and how we had let ourselves down. It’s been you since 2017, when you got loaned to Olympique Lyonnais, and I thought I’d never be able to live for six months without seeing you at all. It’s been you since I got surgery in 2018 and you were there every step of the way, literally, and you went on this crazy goal strike and I was so proud of you. It’s been you since the first game of this World Cup, when you scored the first goal of the tournament on my assist, and then went on to score four more goals. It’s been you since the game against Spain, when you secretly helped me cool off after you’d been fouled one too many times and I was this close to punch someone. It’s been you since the game against France, and right before you told me, fuck the haters, you guys will do good, and I believed you, because how can you not believe every single thing that comes out of your mouth. And we did win, and it felt glorious, and I jumped into your arms and hid away from the world and the critics in your neck and it felt good, comfortable, safe. It’s been you since the game against England, when you congratulated me on my “great assist”, to put it in your words. It’s been you since the final, a few hours ago, when I hit my head against that other player and you ran to me and asked me if I was okay, clearly concerned about me, and how relieved you’d looked when they subbed me out. I was pretty bummed out, but then I realized that it was because you cared about me. It’s been you since that final whistle finally blew and you and I celebrated together, took picture together, kissed the trophy together. It’s been you since I went back into the stands to kiss my girlfriend because I needed too and all the hype made me feel on top of the world, but then I kissed her and I realised that she’s not the one that I wanted to be kissing, Alex because that person was you. And I tried, Alex, I really tried to lock these feelings deep down, because you could never love me back, you were happy, with someone else, you were happy with Servando, and I was happy with her, I was, and I tried hard to love her, I did, but Alex I could never fall in love with her the same way I fell in love with you. And she knows, and she’s back in her hotel room because I just broke her heart, and I know that, but I couldn’t keep lying to her, I couldn’t keep lying to myself and I can’t keep lying to you. I’m in love with you Alex.”
It’s seven am when Alex get up and heads straight to Kelley, ingulfing in into an oh so needed, pressure relieving kiss. Its sweet at first, but rapidly heating up. Kelley’s hand is on the back of Alex’s head and the other on her lower back, holding her close. Alex’s hands are on Kelley’s hips, pushing her lightly towards the bed. When Kelley’s legs touch the soft fabric of the sheets, she lets herself lean back against the bed and Alex climbs on top of her, keeping their lips connected. Kelley switches them so she is now laying on top of Alex and disconnects their lips so her mouth can leave a trail of kisses on Alex’s jaw line and on Alex’s neck like she’d done, back in 2012, after they had won the Olympics. The contact to Alex’s neck is enough to snatch a moan out of her mouth, which only encourages Kelley further. It’s seven am when Kelley removes Alex’s shirt and bra and admires her for the first time like this. It’s seven am when Kelley tells Alex, you’re so beautiful, with tear filled eyes, and Alex reconnects their lips, never wanting them apart again. Alex doesn’t mind when Kelley disconnects their lips once more and starts kissing down on her chest, between her breasts, on her belly button, and then her hands are tugging on Alex’s jeans, lightly, asking for permission to remove them. Alex grants it, unbuttoning and unzipping them, giving Kelley the opportunity to take them off as well as her panties. Kelley moves back up to Alex’s face to kiss her again and Alex pulls her shirt off. The next hours consists of a series of moans and heavy breath and relief.
It’s nine am and they are lying in bed together, naked, their bodies still hot from recent activities. As they face each other, Kelley can’t help but smile to herself. Alex’s face turns a light shade of red. It’s nine am and the storm as passed. It’s nine am and Alex loves Kelley. It’s nine am and Kelley loves Alex. It’s nine am and they both know that from now on, everything is going to be okay.

Unlucky day - An Alex Morgan Imagine
(Y/N) POV
It’s Sunday, the sun is shining brightly, the birds are chirping outside. You feel a nudge in your side and turn in the bed, looking at Alex who’s smiling brightly at you.
“What are you thinking about, babe?” She asks you, as if she could read your mind.
“Nothing” you lie, knowing the right moment to talk about what is bothering you is not right now.
Alex frowns, but doesn’t make a big deal out of it. She leans up and places a sweet kiss to your lips before getting out of bed. You watch her walk away, maybe a little bit too long.
“Perv”
“I’m just admiring what’s mine, babe” you tease and she blows you a kiss from the bathroom door before closing it.
So the thing was, you were very superstitious. And today, of all days, had to be one of the worst days of the year. Each year, on this day, something bad had happened to you. You really were hoping this year would be different, especially now that miss Morgan was sharing your life.
You’re still lost in thoughts and don’t notice Alex getting out of the shower and heading your way, still naked.
“Really, nothing?” Alex says, slightly offended when you don’t even look at her, and picks up her clothes to get dressed “something really is wrong if I can’t even take your mind off it”
“What?” You say, finally breaking from your train of thoughts “What was that?” You ask, now looking at a fully dressed Alex Morgan.
“Guess you’ll never know, babe” Alex says, leaning in and kissing your frown, getting slightly concerned. “I’m going downstairs to start breakfast, hurry up in the shower, we need to get to training” She states before heading for the kitchen.
You gather your stuff for the shower and hop in, washing your hair, but halfway through, the water gets cold, freezing, in fact. You brush it off as Alex using too much hot water and hurry out. Not wanting to head to training with wet hair, you take out the blow dryer and plug it in. You hit the button, getting ready for it to, you know, start, but it doesn’t.
“What? I swear It worked yesterday” you state, looking at the dryer in you hands. “Hey Alex?” You scream out so the brunette can hear you.
“Yeah?” She responds from downstairs.
“Is the blow dryer broken?”
“No it’s not, I just used it”
“Well it’s not working”
“I’m coming”
You hear footsteps in the stairs and finally see her enter the bathroom. She takes the dryer from your hands and tries to start it. It does start and your frown deepens.
“That thing works just fine” she says, handing it to you.
“I swear it wasn’t working five seconds ago” You state, confusion clear in your voice.
“You know, if you wanted to see me, you could have just said so” Alex says, heading back downstairs.
Once your hair is all dry, you follow the smell of freshly baked pancakes and coffee.
“Here” Alex says, handing you a mug. Which you immediately take to your lips. “Careful it’s-“
“Ow!” You say, after having burned you whole mouth with the beverage.
“Hot..” Alex says, moving to take the mug away from you. “Careful babe, or you won’t be able to talk for a while, and god know how much you talk” Alex says, fetching you a glass of water. “Here, drink this instead”
“Thanks” You say, taking the glass she’s offering you and taking a sip, soothing the burn of the coffee.
You both sit down at the island to eat breakfast and get ready to leave for training.
You head out and set your stuff in the car. You sit at the wheel and put the keys in to start the car, but it doesn’t start.
“What’s going on?” Alex asks, not getting used to the constant frown you’ve had all morning.
“I swear I filled it up like two days ago, how come we don’t have any left?” You mumble to yourself, earning a frown from Alex this time.
“Don’t have any what, (Y/N)?” Alex asks, confused.
“Gas, how come we don’t have gas anymore?” You ask, irritating Alex slightly.
“What do you mean we don’t have gas anymore? How are we supposed to get to training ?”
You give her an apologetic look.
“Fine, I’ll call Kelley, you better hope she hasn’t left yet” Alex says, taking her phone out and composing Kelley’s number.
“Yeah it’s me, look, we don’t have gas anymore, could you come pick us up? Great, see you soon” Alex says, unbuckling her seat belt.
You both sit in the car, in silence until Kelley pulls up in the driveway. She rolls her window down as you both exit your car, heading towards hers.
“My favorite girlies” Kelley says, grinning.
“Thanks for coming Kells, don’t know what we would’ve done if you were more punctual” Alex says, getting in the car.
“Sometimes flaws can be useful” Kelley says, deciding to take the pretend insult as a compliment.
You all arrive at the training ground at the same time as Sam and Rose.
“See, I told you we weren’t late” Kelley says to Alex, loud enough for Sam and Rose to hear her.
“Oh no, we are very much latte” Rose states “this one wanted a late before training and there was a huge line so, guess we’ll all be late together”
“Oops..” Kelley says, looking at Alex.
“It’s fine, Kells,” Alex says “we wouldn’t have been late if someone hadn’t forgotten to put gas in the car” she says, looking at you.
“I did fill the car, like, two days ago” you defend.
You all head into the locker room together. You sit down on the bench and the realization hits you.
“God damnit!” You say, making Alex jump in her seat next to you.
“What’s got you so worked up, (Y/N)?” Ashlyn asks from the other side of the room.
“I forgot my bag, I don’t have my shin guards or my shoes!” You say, frustrated in yourself that you forgot your stuff on the backseat of your car, which was still parked at home because somehow you didn’t have any gas left. This all felt too much to be a coincidence.
“Distracted this morning, are we?” Alex asks from beside you, handing you her second pair of shoes and shin guards that she always carries around, just in case.
“Thanks” You say, taking what she was offering you and putting them on.
“You’ll have to do without the teeth protector, cause I’m not sharing” Alex says, playfully. Kissing your cheek.
“That I can do without” you say and get up, pulling Alex with you to start warming up for training.
“Wait, I need my pre wrap” Alex says, taking it out and wrapping it around her head. Pulling on it, the wrap breaks in two. “Well, that’s weird” Alex says, laughing it off and taking the roll and starting over. The new one does the same thing and your eyes widen.
“Oh god... it’s happening to you now.. this is all my fault” you say leaving the locker room in a hurry, earning weird looks from your teammates and leaving Alex very concerned.
“What’s up with her?” JJ asks to which Alex shakes her head.
“No idea”
You’re sitting in the hallway with your knees up to your chest when Alex finally finds you.
“There you are, I’ve been looking all around for you” She says, concerned when she sees you. “Are you going to tell me what’s going on now?” She asks, sitting next to you on the floor.
“It’s my unlucky day” you say, staring right into her eyes, yours watery.
Alex thinks you’re kidding at first, you can see it in her eyes. She doesn’t know what to say to that.
“What do you mean?” She asks, clearly confused.
“Every year, on this day, something happens, whether it be a car accident, like last year, you remember right? When I had to go to the hospital? Or just some silly stuff like today” you say, causing Alex to once again not really know what to reply.
“What are you so upset about right now? It’s not like somebody died today, we were just late for practice” Alex asks, putting a hand on your shoulder, trying to reassure you.
“But your pre wrap... it kept breaking, and I thought maybe me being close to you was affecting you somehow, like a message that I should stay away, but Alex, I don’t think I can stay away from you..” you say, full on crying at this point.
Alex takes you into her arms kissing the top of your head, trying to calm you down.
“Baby no, I forgot to take it inside the other day, it dried in the sun I guess, but I borrowed some from Julie, it’s fine look” Alex says, showing you the wrap on her head and tugging it a little, to show you it was solid.
“Yeah?” You ask, calmer than previously.
“Yeah” Alex reassures “and the car this morning, I think I actually might be at fault for that, I went shopping with Allie yesterday and forgot to fill it back up” Alex admits, giving an apologetic smile.
“What about the blow dryer ?” You ask, still unsure about the whole thing.
“I don’t know, maybe you were pressing the wrong button or something” Alex says, unsure about what happened.
“Maybe...” You say looking at Alex.
“See, this isn’t an unlucky day, you’re just distracted” Alex says, kissing your forehead.
“I guess you may be right..” you say, kissing her lips.
“There you are, guys I found them! Theyre making out in the hallway” Kelley shouts and all your teammates round the corner to look at you and Alex.
“Come on you guys, Jill is pissed, she’s making us run 10 more than usual because we couldn’t find you” Ash states, pissed herself at the thought of running.
You look at Alex who smiles awkwardly at you. And you give her an “I told you so” look.
“Oh sure maybe that’s unlucky, but that has nothing to do with it” Alex says, knowingly.
“You guys take your time, but it’s on you if we get even more running” Kelley says, getting impatient.
“Coming!” Alex and you say at the same time.
Looking at her, you can’t help but feel like maybe she was right, and, you know, with her, everyday feels like your lucky day.
The end

Seeing Red - A Kelley O’Hara imagine
It had been months since you received the call that would ultimately change your life. You had made the national team, after trying so hard for years, you dream had finally been made reality.
After weeks of training, today was your first game against none other than Canada. You were on the starting eleven, which many fans and reporters complained about, since they’d never seen you play before.
“Hum... hello? (Y/N) are you still with me?” Kelley asks from the other side of your shared room.
“Sorry, what?” You replied, suddenly being brought back to reality.
“Alright, that is enough, what’s going on?” Kelley asks, crossing her arms and sitting on the bed in front of you.
“What do you mean?” You reply, trying to act tough, knowing it’s not working at all on Kelley who, for the last months, you had grown really close to.
“Don’t even try this with me (Y/N), what’s wrong,” she asks and without really knowing why, a tear falls down your cheek, followed by a few more and the next second you are full on crying.
At the sight of that, Kelley gets up and comes to sit on your bed, taking you into her arms, trying to help you calm down with a reassuring hand on your back.
“Hey, it’s okay, whatever it is you can tell me, please talk to me. I’m right here.” Kelley says, now caressing your back, with your face in the crook of her neck and her chin on your head.
This whole thing had affected you way more than you would have liked and thought it would. Slowly but surely, the tears stop flowing and you pull away from her.
“Have you seen the articles? What the fans are saying?” You ask, eyes red and puffy, sniffling a bit.
“(Y/N), please don’t tell me you did this to yourself. Why would you look at those things? Especially before a big game like this,” Kelley asks, now understanding where all of this was coming from.
You look at her, guiltily, unable to answer. You look down, unable to hold her gaze.
“Look, I get it okay, but some people can be really harsh on social media and some fans don’t love when things change a lot and rapidly, so some comments might have been really rude, but you know what?” Kelley asks, looking at you and putting a hand on you chin to rise you face so she can see your eyes.
“What?” You reply, looking into her eyes.
“Now you prove them wrong,” she says, whipping away the tear on your left cheek and placing a piece of loose hair behind your ear.
A bit of a smile forms on you lips. You are feeling better already and Kelley can see it.
“Come over here, weirdo,” Kelley says, pulling you into a tight bone crushing hug.
*cut to game*
The crowd is already on fire and the game hasn’t even started yet. As you walk onto the field and get ready for the national anthems to start playing, you remember the tweets you read right before leaving the locker room. Only tweets from your teammates, encouraging you for your first game. You feel the love from them all over again. You also remember the not so nice tweets you had read that morning from fans of the team and the pain they had brought you, but also the desire to prove them wrong.
The anthems now over, each player takes place onto the field for the game to begin. The hype is real, this game is important, for you and for the team, so you can’t mess this up. The whistle blows and the ball lifts off.
Being on right midfield had pretty much always been your position on the field and that was exactly where you were at the moment.
The ball reaches your feet and you move forward, creating a way through Canadian players and eventually you pass forward to Tobin, who cuts through the defenders and shoots on goal. Labbe, however, catches it. Your first assist will have to wait. Tobin turns and gives you a thumbs up, she liked that pass and wants more.
You can feel the electricity in the stands. Fans from both sides cheering their favorite players on. You move backwards when Janine Beckie moves forward, towards goal, with purpose. You attempt a slide tackle, which you succeed at and steel the ball right from under her feet, passing it back to Kelley who sends it to Sauerbrunn. The crowd cheers louder after that play, which feels like a compliment.
The ball goes back and forth between the two teams for some time, no one really able to finish it and put it at the back of the net on either side of the pitch. It’s at the 43rd minute that your team gets a corner, the first of the match. The whole team lines up and so do you. Rapinoe gets ready to hit the ball. A hand up from Megan tells you the ball is coming and when she hits it, the confusion in front of the goal gives you an opportunity to slip between players and connect with the ball with your head and score an amazing goal. The team goes crazy and so do the fans. Alex jumps into your arms, amazed that you just scored you first goal with the squad on your first game. Megan gives you a big hug and you thank her for the opportunity. You feel someone jumping on your back and just know who it is.
“Yes! That’s what I’m talking about!” Kelley says, holding you from behind. You turn around to face her and see her smile from ear to ear. She takes your face into her hands and kisses your forehead, where you connected with the ball. Tobin hands you the ball with which you just scored your big goal.
“You’re gonna want to keep this one,” she says with a wink.
You thank her and take the ball from her hands hesitantly. You look at it and feel pride in yourself. You look at the crowd and raise the ball up. The crowd cheers louder and as you kiss the ball, they start cheering even louder. You run to the sidelines quickly to give to ball to someone who’ll put it with your stuff and get congratulations from the team on the bench.
The game continues and shortly after, first half is over.
The team regroups in the locker room and Jill gives a speech of motivation to the team and explains the new strategy, without forgetting to mention your first goal.
After, you head back to the field. Kelley is beaming beside you.
“I’m so proud of you (Y/N). That goal was amazing and put us in advance,” she says, still amazed by what you did.
“Thanks Kel, means a lot from you,” You reply, a huge smile on your face.
Kelley looks at you with amazement and shakes her head, rolling her eyes and putting an arms around your shoulders as you walk back out on the field.
You start warming up again before the second half starts. Eventually, you are back in midfield, with the ball at your feet. The second half is a lot trickier. Canada came in with a totally different attitude. They wanted to win and they would do anything for it. That meant being more ferocious and physical. Alex had been fouled twice in the first ten minutes of the second half and the ref didn’t seem to care at all.
Looking up for a second, you see an opening and start running, but get cut off by Chapman, coming full force towards you and placing a foot in front of the ball. your foot gets caught in it, which results in you falling and losing the ball. Kelley protests right away for a foul, but the ball stays in play.
It hurts, but you get back up just as Kelley regains possession of the ball. She passes it midfield to Ertz, who in an attempt to pass forward, gives it back to the opposing team.
Their attack comes quickly, with short passes in the defense line and a great finish by Sinclair which equalizes the game. Within the next ten minutes, Canada managed to foul seven players, obtain only one yellow card, and score a second goal. With now 20 minutes left to go, the team knows they have to act, fast.
After a great pass by Kelley, the ball falls back at your feet and pressing forward, you feel the pressure from the Canadian side. An opening allows you to slip the ball to Alex who finishes on her left foot. She comes running towards you and lifts you up into her arms. The rest of the team comes crashing into the two of you and you feel all the love from you teammates.
The ball goes back into play and with now only a few minutes left, you don’t want this game to end on an equalizer. The clocks starts ticking by as some opportunities come and go. You run up field and receive a great ball from Mewis. In the box now and about to shoot your shot when the ground is taken from under you. You hit the ground, hard, and your ankle feels like its been torn. You hold it, crying, wanting to scream in pain but no sound comes out. The players are still playing and the ball reaches Kelley, who had already been running upfield to come to you aid. She immediately shoots it outside and runs to you.
“(Y/N) are you okay?” She asks, clearly worried and bending down to talk to you.
“God my ankle” is the only thing you can form and she immediately signals for the medical staff to come and help.
She gets up and the ref, who had been standing right beside you signals that a penalty kick was to be taken. Kelley asks for a card to be given and as she says it the ref pulls out a card, aimed at Chapman, who slide tackled you moments prior. It’s a red card, no less. Chapman protests and Kelley thanks the ref for doing something right for once in this game.
The medical team are assessing your injury when Kelley kneels back down next to you.
“It’s gonna be okay (Y/N), you’ll be fine I promise” she says, trying to reassure herself more than you.
“We need to switch you out, you aren’t finishing this game” one of the medics say, to which you try protesting, but seeing the state of you ankle, you agree to being subbed out. They roll you out on a stretcher, a little stream of tears on your face from frustration and pain. The crowd cheers as you leave the field, and Kelley can’t help being worried and scared at the state of your ankle, herself having had ankle injuries.
Alex scores on the PK, and the final whistle blows, the US have won.
While everyone on the field starts cheering and congratulating each other, Kelley can’t find it in herself to be happy in the moment, she’s too worried about you and can’t wait to leave the field and see if you’re alright.
Alex, seeing the worry on Kelley’s face runs up to her and reassures her that you will be alright, but words just aren’t enough at the moment. She needs to see you.
Eventually she leaves the field and when she reaches the locker rooms, you aren’t there.
“Where’s (Y/N)?” She asks Jill, a little bit harsher than she intended.
“She’s getting treatment, she’ll meet us back at the hotel when she’s done” Jill replies.
“Thanks” Kelley replies, already starting to think the worst.
Right now she wishes she could hit Chapman, but she knows nothing like that would help the situation, it wouldn’t even make her feel better.
The bus ride back to the hotel is filled with chants from the team and overall happiness, except from Kelley, who prefers to stay quiet and look out the window. Her thoughts are going wild and Alex notices. She slips through the people and sits down next to Kelley.
“The bus isn’t going to the hotel right away” Alex says, anticipating Kelley’s reaction.
As expected, Kelley turns her focus to Alex with wide eyes.
“What? Why? Where are we going ?” She says, a slight anger in her voice.
“The team wanted to go out for drinks, it’s on Jill and the bus is just dropping us off there” Alex explains, “but before you say anything, I called you an Uber, it’ll pick you up at the bar when we get there” Alex adds, and sees a slight relief on Kelley’s face.
“Thank you Alex, but why did you-“ Kelley starts, but is cut off by Alex.
“Oh please Kel, like I wouldn’t notice how you feel about this girl” Alex starts “I’ve never seen you act that way about a player getting hurt ever before.” Alex states and Kelley’s eyes widen.
“Is it that obvious?” She asks, her cheeks heating up a bit and a slight redness appearing.
“I mean, you’re my best friend so of course I’d notice, not sure if anyone else noticed” Alex replies, a grin on her face.
“God... I just hope she’s okay... I can’t imagine her not being able to play for the World Cup. She would be devastated” Kelley states, looking back out the window.
To that, Alex simply leans on her shoulder, resting her head on it, reassuringly.
*cut to Kelley getting off the Uber*
Kelley heads for the doors of the hotel after her Uber ride and makes a mental note to thank Alex once again for calling one from the bus.
Walking the halls, Kelley can’t help but feel some type of ache in her stomach, as nervousness settles in. She finally reaches the door to your shared room and opens it quietly.
Once she’s in, she can see the lamp on your bedside table still lit and you on the bed, quietly sobbing with your ankle all taped up. She cautiously approaches you and rounds your bed so she is sitting on hers, looking at you.
You hadn’t realized she had came in and jumped when you opened your eyes.
“God Kelley, didn’t know you were back” you say, turning so you’re laying on your back, quickly whipping your face, attempting to hide the fact that you were just crying.
“Sorry, I didn’t wanna scare you” Kelley replies, a soft but worried expression on her face.
You both sit there, in the comfortable silence for a few seconds.
“Are you okay?” Kelley tries, carefully.
“They said I won’t be able to play for a few weeks, but I should recover” You reply, earning a confused look from the brunette.
Another silence.
“Did we win?” You ask, your voice cracking a bit and it dawns on Kelley why you had been crying.
“Hey, you don’t have to be disappointed by your performance today (Y/N), you did amazing and what happened was in no way your fault” Kelley says, coming over and sitting on your bed and you sit up. She take you hand in hers, providing comfort.
“We did win today, Alex scored on the PK” Kelley says, and you breathe in relief, a tear falling down your cheek.
Kelley’s face changes. In the moment, she looks really worried.
“God I was so worried” she says, hugging you. You rested you face in the crook of her neck and she lets out a breath of relief.
The hug is comfortable and holds so much meaning. You feel your heart rate picking up. You would stay like this forever if you could. Kelley pulls always, slowly, but staying close, looking into your eyes. She leans in, carefully, and places a kiss on your forehead. Her lips linger and your heart goes crazy at the contact. It no longer feels like comfort. It feels like so much more than that. She pulls away, but you don’t let much time pass before pulling her in for a kiss. It surprises you, the newfound confidence that you seem to have around her. It surprises her too, because she didn’t think her feelings were reciprocated. The kiss is sweet and meaningful, and you let yourself melt into it, into her. Her soft hands on you face, yours on her hips. After a few minutes, you both pull away. One of her hands is still caressing your cheek.
She’s about to say something, but you cut her off before she has a chance too.
“We’ll talk about this tomorrow. It’s late and I’m tired and I think the meds are kicking in, I’m starting to feel fuzzy” You say and she lets go of your face.
“Okay” she says before standing up.
“Wait” you say, taking her arm in you hand “can you just lay with me?” You ask and her face softens even more. You didn’t even know that was possible.
“Sure” she says and rounds the bed before climbing behind you. She’s careful, not wanting to hurt your foot while getting in. She hugs you from behind, putting her head in your necks and you turn off the light by your side.
Kelley exhales in you ear, sending shivers down your spine. You feel safe in her arms. Before drifting off to sleep, you her her muffled voice in your ear say “don’t ever scare me like that again, weirdo”.

Battle Wounds
Okay, let’s do this! This is my first fic that I’m posting and if anyone likes it please let me know.
When (Y/N) gets injured during a bad business meeting, Wonder Woman, her girlfriend, is there to save the day....
“I’m fine, Diana,” You say, stepping into your apartment, Diana Prince following closely behind.
“No, you’re not. You just fell down a twenty floor building,” Diana replies, taking your hand to spin you around so you’ll look at her.
“I did, but you caught me before I hit the ground,” you say, looking at Diana whose face twists when she sees the bloodied gap on your forehead. “It’s fine,” you insist.
“Stop saying you’re fine!” Diana snaps, making you freeze in place.
She had never snapped at you before. You can move again after a couple of seconds of looking into her eyes. You put your hand on her toned arm.
“Hey.. I’m sorry,” you start, watching a single tear fall from her right eye. “I could have died today, but you were there.. you are always there,” you add, moving your hand to wipe the tear from her cheek.
She melts into your touch, but tenses back again when she remembers how scared she had felt when she had heard your screaming as you fell down the building. Knocking out everyone getting in her way, she had jumped down, adrenaline was rushing trough her as the wind was blowing her hair back. Time seemed to have stopped. You had seen her getting closer and closer. locking eyes with her, you had extended your arm. Once she had been close enough, she had caught it and then the rest of you into her arms, landing a moment later.
“What if I’m not..? What if I hadn’t caught you in time?” The vulnerability in her voice was something you had never heard before. At least, not coming from her.
It breaks your heart to see her like that. so... fragile. The Wonder Woman, princess of Themyscira, god killer...
“(Y/N), what if you had died..?” Diana says, tears now streaming down her face like a river.
Your breath caught in your throat. The words refused to be spoken. Your heart ached, knowing you were causing so much pain to this woman, this woman whom you loved. This woman who had sacrificed so much for you already.
You do the only thing you can think of at the moment. You kiss her.
The kiss starts soft, both of you melting into it, letting the stress and fear and pain disappear from your minds for just long enough to feel safe. You had been reckless for a long time and Diana had helped putting you back on track, but lately you had gone back to your old ways and it had been bad... you knew the businesses you were meddling with where dangerous, but nothing happens to people who just wait for life. Diana hates it. She hates that you are putting your life in danger. She hates that you didn’t tell her about it. She hates that she had to find out while answering a call about something going on with the people you were dealing with. She hates all of it and you know it. She has sacrificed so much for you... maybe it’s time you do the same for her.
You stop kissing her, both of you breathing heavily. You look at her and she looks at you. Her eyes are still watery from her tears. She looks beautiful. No matter what she always does. It must be a god thing... you look down, debating in your head about what to say. she looks at you, confused as to why you stopped so abruptly. Her brow arched in confusion, she puts her hands on your face and lifts it up so you’re looking at her again or so she can look into your eyes. Her thumb grazes over the cut on your forehead, the blood dry. You grimace at the touch. You hadn’t expected it to sting like that.
“I’m going to stop,” you say, looking at her, taking in her expression.
She says nothing. Instead, she brings your face closer to hers and kisses you again, definitely not as softly as previous...
