You know another thing this show excels at? Creating tension between all characters. Whatever that tension you interpret it as, it's there, and it's amazing.

@qinduang noticed that Chi Cheng, who usually wears black, is in all white in old photos with Cheng Yu and @nobitiiiinn, @itsanidiom, and @soypim poured a circle of salt to summon me to do whatever it is I do with colors.

So here I am, questioning why would a man who lurks in the dark shadows most of the time be in all white? Is it because he once was light before his heart was broken? Or maybe he and his former best friend balanced each other out? Or perhaps there is another secret third reason.

Episode sixteen will offer us the tidbit that at one time Cheng Yu was the most important person in Chi Cheng's life, which is probably why Wang Shuo, in white, was so jealous that he decided to ruin their friendship the only way he knew how.

But much like Chi Cheng, I don't really care about Wang Shuo's reasoning for why he did what he did. I care more about the fact that since he showed back up, he's been pretty dark . . . clothing wise, yet from the handful of times we've seen him, he was light with Chi Cheng when they were dating,

But dark since he has been back, which could mean once Chi Cheng broke up with him, he became so depressed that he turned dark.

Or it could mean that Wang Shuo is a manipulative bitch since when he goes to meet Wu Suo Wei, he shows up in white, which means that the light colors are just a costume that he puts on to appear innocent.

And we've seen another manipulative bitch try that tactic. Yue Yue enjoys wearing black now and then, but when she first met Chi Cheng's parents, she wore white, and when she first met Chi Cheng's sister, she wore white again. But when she tried to seduce Chi Cheng, she wore red, and that's because it's all in act.

But we know Cheng Yu's, as a person, isn't an act. He might be pretending he isn't hurt by all of this, but he isn't manipulative in the same way that Wang Shuo and Yue Yue are.

So we might feel like Cheng Yu and Chi Cheng balance each other out.

But Cheng Yu has his own dynamic happening with Xiao Shuai, and surprisingly, it's not a light and dark one.

Because when we actually look at Cheng Yi and Xiao Shaui, they are two pretty colorful guys.

So that would mean that whatever queerness is going on between these two former best friends isn't a relationship based on balance.

And the reason I think that is because of Chi Cheng's actual relationship.

Wu Suo Wei tends to be the light to Chi Cheng's dark.

They balance each other out.

They complement each other.

They complete each other.

They push each other to do better.

So they are their best selves with each other.

Even when they are at their scheming worst.

And that's because they love each other for who they really are, not who they pretend to be.

They are the real balance here.

So they will merge and mix their colors together every now and then.

And even when Wu Suo Wei is upset, he will still care for Chi Cheng which shows in his color.

Because despite himself, he has been in love with Chi Cheng for longer than he would care to admit.

But Chi Cheng has been just as much in love with him.

And this is why I think that when Chi Cheng feels loved, when he feels love, and when he feels safe with the person he is with, the guy who is normally so dark is willing to shed his shadow and be light.

So to take the long road to answer the question, maybe Chi Cheng wore white with Cheng Yu because in the past Cheng Yu was the most important person in Chi Cheng's life probably because his best friend made Chi Cheng feel safe when his family didn't. He made him feel loved when his partner didn't. He made him feel like he belonged when the world didn't. And not necessarily in a romantic way. Just in a 'Cheng Yu was and is still Chi Cheng's soulmate' kind of way.

But once Cheng Yu betrayed him, the only thing Chi Cheng had left to love was his snakes.

But now he can be light again with a person.

Because of love.

Or at least that's my theory.
