Carlton Lassiter is such a character, he’s head detective of the SBPD, he has two moms, he is a civil war reenactor where he plays his own great great grandfather, he’s pansexual, he’s divorced, his greatest enemy is a phony psychic, his girlfriend is in jail, he believes in ghosts, he spent all his childhood weekends at an old west tourist trap, he has a brother who’s missing, his middle name is Jebediah, he’s got that blue eyed stare, and they put this man on our tvs in 2006.

shawn spencer will never feel loved. the way he acts and behaves is reminiscent of somebody who has given up completely on ever being known. it’s constant. the joking, the flirting, the lying. when he lets somebody in, they don’t like what they see and it repeats over and over. his dad wanted him to be a cop and anything else he was passionate for was disregarded. so he plays the role, he solves crime in the only way that would allow himself to express any sort of emotion. but the projection he plays is flimsy; and if you tried to peel off that psychic persona, what you would find underneath would be grimy and gunky and full of teeth. it would bite and claw and kill; because it has only ever known weakness. it has only ever been scorned.

i really relate to shawn being really attached to his mother despite her being extremely permissive to henry’s abuse. i think shawn idealized her because, while she is very neglectful and absent, at least she’s nice (especially compared to henry)

i had a very similar situation w my parents and shawn is such a realistic character 😭 of course he idealizes his mother when henry is his other parent

S5 E14: The Polarizing Express

I am, once again, breaking my “don’t post about the episode until you finish it rule. However I have faith it won’t go badly this time because I’m not talking about bad guys and Shawn’s criminal crushes, I’m talking about his mother. Which I’ve been meaning to do for a WHILE.

Red flag number one that’s been making me keep an eye out for her behavior and mentions; She’s literally never been in a single flash back scene to Shawn’s childhood and it’s season five now. She was mentioned once when Henry told Shawn to tuck in his shirt before speaking to her and it gave me bad vibes.

I fully expected her to be worse than Henry. Then we meet her in present day and Shawn’s all attached and they get along okay and I am just so unbelievably confused. Then she disappears again. We’ve seen her in two episodes, Yang and whatever one she gave Lassie therapy in, that’s it. And while Shawn seems to like her I DON’T. Especially since she admitted that she’s the one who left and didn’t even bother to try to take her kid with her, she just left him with his obviously terrible father.

Also when Jules’ brother stopped by and Shawn said he didn’t trust him Jules shot back that he wouldn’t understand because he doesn’t get along with his father and his mother is nowhere to be seen and then everybody just fucking brushes that off and doesn’t talk about it again. Henry’s abusive but he fucking tried, she is just straight up absent, and while in the house neglectful which I officially have more evidence for than just not seeing her because Henry just said “It’s not like I had you’re mother around to give me-” (any help) so yeah, neglectful and absent.

I wanted to rant about all this a couple weeks ago when I saw a post that I mostly agreed with (it was talking about Henry’s parenting) until it said “At least he had his mother around to keep him fun” which is just blatantly untrue, but I didn’t have any evidence then so I decided to lost pone this rant. Shawn is fun because of Gus, not his mother, his mother has done nothing for him his whole life, Gus was the only one holding him together. Shawn might not have made it to adulthood if it weren’t for Gus and I do not see enough people taking about that. Do not give that credit to his absent mother that was all Gus. Which is unfair since Gus is ALSO a child, but the world kinda sucks like that and sometimes all we have is fellow children.

But yeah, here’s my fuck Shawn’s mother rant. She’s so fucking absent I don’t even know her name.

Anyway, prepare for a Henry rant in the next forty minutes because I actually will wait till the end of the episode for that one, I just couldn’t wait any longer for this one.
