Keep forgetting I even have this. I figure I should actually use it for once as I’m trying to be more active with social media in general.
It’s so easy to just be a hermit and not talk to people. But I guess that’s a bad attitude to have.
Been doing NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) this year. I’ve tried this before but to little success. However I was able to actually crank out a decent outline for a change and so far it’s been helping a lot! One week in Im currently sitting at 12,530 words, which is slightly above where I need to be to make it to my 50k word goal. So I’m feeling good about that!
Another thing I feel has helped is deciding to just write something a bit more silly and easy. I can’t speak for everyone, but when I write I know I have a bad habit of being all:
“Okay. Time to write THE novel. The MOST novel anyone’s ever noveled. If I can’t blow people minds and break their hearts with my most eloquent of words; I might as well walk into the ocean and never return!”
Which, again, bad attitude. So I gave myself a simple prompt: just do something based on some of my favorite stories. In this case:
- Taking inspiration from a few of my favorite movies growing up, “the Wizard of Oz (1939)” and Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland (1951)”. This mostly being the “youth finds themselves in magical land and maybe it’s real and/or maybe it’s just them figuratively working through some stuff” as a general concept. (“Over the Garden Wall (2014)” also played a big hand in this concept’s inspiration).
- With that as a base I then wanted to put my own spin on it making it a very personal story without taking itself too seriously. Other things that definitely helped form this is stuff like R.L. Stine’s “Goosebumps”, “Coraline (2009)”, and “Monster House (2006)”.
Yeah very much a melting pot of ideas but I think it’s coming into its own.
It’s called “Jesse’s Scared of Everything” hang around if you’re intrigued and want to see more of the journey!

I think my key to staying out of internet discourse is treating everyone like overblown Tamagotchis. You do not argue with Tamagotchis, you give them little treats (messages, likes, etc.) if you like them and ignore them until they die in their own waste if you don’t. Easy peasy.

Piggybacking off this, maybe writing 60k is hard for me because of the anxiety? Man, I can’t write that much. People are gonna think I’m annoying. “Oo, look at me, I can go on and on for 60k words aren’t I special?”
I miss being on celexa sometimes 😅
Finished that new manuscript. Been a while since I finished something new. Only 54k~ words (can not break that 60k barrier no matter how hard I try). But I’m proud of my work.
Just gotta edit and polish to see if anything’s really in there. Yaaaaaaay

Are you a “Chapter One” “Chapter 1” or “Chapter I” type of writer? Maybe you don’t include the word “chapter”? Maybe you’re even a “1.” At the top of the page kind of person? Does it just depend on the book? Chapter titles?
It’s amazing all the different ways we can do things and how little it matters.

Writing the connective tissue has got to be my least favorite part of writing. I.e. the parts that aren’t the big scenes but you need them to introduce a character or a concept or whatever so the big scene can happen.
Never know if I’m rushing or dragging it out and it can get really frustrating. Oh boy, but when you get it right and it all fits together it is o r g a s m i c.

Maybe I should introduce myself and not just be weird. Hi, I’m Stephen. I write.
…
Well that was a waste of your time. My bad. Go about your business.

Welp, sometimes you gotta find any void you can to shout down. Maybe sometimes the void actually shouts back… even if it’s just an echo.
