Scientists theorize newly discovered brain parasite could be cause of "fad" mentality amongst females globally in recent years.

The fads believed to be related to the phenomenon include:

- Making "pursed lips" photographs

- "Twerking"

- Nostril piercing

- Posting photographs with the belief that filters on photographs display one's "true" beauty.

Risk factors for infection include:

- Completion of at least two of the above listed fads

- Unregulated self-confidence

- Exposure to household cats

- An urge to do "every stupid thing that comes along"

Females with more than one of the risk factors are encouraged to seek professional medical treatment.

The scientists involved in the discovery named the new parasite "i. amidiotic".
