I had to find this post. I read this in 2017 and it had a profound effect on me. I couldn’t stop saying it. It was echolalia. And now to this day, for seven years, I can still quote it perfectly Word for Word and often do when I do something stupid. This is the perfect post in my opinion

Most emotional gutpunch moments in the Witcher a masterpost (ENG/PL)
Okay so I was bored and decided to throw together a thread of my personal (keep that in mind!) favourite moments in the Witcher that deal emotional damage. My fave scenes overall are in most books vastly different, since I prefer comedy, but I felt evil so here are my fave moments that make me cry everytime.
I included the original version of the text because sadly I feel like the english translation lost a big chunk of the emotionality. Includes direct book pages with the scenes but also some extras in quotes that deserved a honorable mention.
Let's dive in >:)
🤍The Last Wish
A Grain of Truth/Lesser Evil
Geralt's depersonalization with Stregobor is probably my fave line in the whole book.
🔸"Someone the witcher didn't know found the hilt of his sword and drew it."

🔸"But if there is, then you've condemned yourself. Condemned yourself to me."
🤍Sword of Destiny
A Shard of Ice/Something More
There are so many gutpunch moments in this one and A Shard of Ice deserves to be here in its entirety but 🤷♂️
"I was meant to end up alone, wasn't I?" cracks my heart in half everytime. "You have taken everything from me."
🔸"A name that I have spoken in the middle of the night and in the sunlight, during frosts and heat waves and rain. No, I'm not afraid to speak it now."

🔸"Aedd Gynvael and its muck heap, that enormous, stinking pile of garbage which I have to enter, because they pay me to, because I was created for it. I was created to enter that filth which fills other people with disgust and revulsion. I was deprived of the ability to feel so I wouldn't be able to feel how dreadfully vile it is, so I wouldn't retreat."
Oh Geralt my poor little wet kitten
No.1 depressing moment is that cat being mean to him
🔸"I want to look into your face...Visenna. I want to look into your eyes. And you...you must look into mine.".."tomorrow, in the daylight, I'll look into your eyes, Visenna...And I'll ask you my question. Or perhaps I won't ask you, because it's too late."
🤍Blood of Elves
I am just so glad to be able to see it.
You don't understand. How lucky you are. That you don't need magic to be pretty. That you don't understand what's so interesting about that tree.

🔸"What have you done to us? he asked bitterly. "What have you done to us? What have you made of us?"
🤍Time of Contempt
Ciri's desert adventures are probably my fave chapter of this entire book and this plottwist to her lenghty struggle and desert witchering just took me out the first time I've read it
🔸"Do you know how you die from thirst? Any moment now you will lose your mind, and then it will be too late. Then you won't be able to end it at all."
Because blood is a liquid, after all. Because the desert creature was poisonous. Because she lay powerless, dried out like that dead rodent's carcass sucked dry and thrown from the crater.

🤍Baptism of Fire
This entire conversation with Milva is probably my most favourite part of the book and it's hitting me with a metaphorical car everytime but en'ca minne hits different. Only that can defeat death. A little love.

🔸"Maria is paying for Milva."
🤍The Tower of the Swallow
I tried not to make this a thread of just characters dying and the whole head cutting shtick is the infinitely worse part but. Mistle's hand. Which was slender, delicate and soft. First it was clenching and unclenching. Then it no longer moved.

🔸"The half-elf had been right, he thought. Death isn't always the same."
🤍Lady of the Lake
There also many many depressing moments in this book but these are my top 3 that just turn my insides out everytime
I knew that a brothel in Toussaint would be a better fucking way of making a living for them
🔸"I'm coming, Ciri. I'm coming."

🔸"Didn't I tell you," said Ciri coldly "that I remember everything?"
🤍Season of Storms
I think we can all appreciate the epilogue with Nimue and the speech about witchers always being neccessary

🔸"For the first time in my life I'm glad to have been tricked." "It's not true that you did everything wrong. And as a reward, you may touch my face."
Anyway I hope y'all enjoyed this tour de depression😊I love this franchise so much like it makes me want to weep uncontrollably on the daily
Maybe reblog this with tagging your own personal fave depressing witcher moments? Heartbreaking lines? Anything? 👀
