lsiten listen mdzs is my perfect story, my favourite novel, and one of the main things that is so compelling to me is how much lwj is changed by wwx into being someone better.

An environment and sect that had nurtured him into someone upright and examplary and the perfect cultivator but also into someone who could be cruel to others but even more cruel to himself. To become someone who would punish himself excessively for a mistake he didn't even commit (when wwx pushed him over the wall) and could lock his mother away and only have her two young sons visit her once a month and could then agree to support a seige against that very man when LWJ was there on that mountain, was there to witness farmers and swordless cultivators and a child, and agree to still slaughter all of them because they were protected by one man they had attacked first...

In thirteen years, lwj changed his environment into one that could nurture Lan Sizhui and Lan Jingyi and all the other juniors, and got disciples to be in charge of rabbits, to feed something that was against the rules and to use inventions by his dead beloved. He guided them and taught them and they respect him in turn. Because, he made a place in the world that the hole shaped WWX in his memory and heart could love and be loved in return.

lwj's "i love you" was not enough to save wwx then so he tried to make a world that could.

Mei Nianqing’s philosophy towards Xie Lian and Jun Wu’s obsession with him is so weird. On the one hand, he’s like “Jun Wu is a megalomaniac; I gotta keep my disciple as far away from him as possible!” But the moment that becomes impossible, he just throws up his hands and goes, “Look, Xie Lian, I’m not gonna fight him, and I’m not gonna tell you what he’s doing so that you don’t try to fight him.
