Regal looked at the man curiously for a moment. He didn’t often run into trouble inside city limits where he was from. There were some areas that could be rougher than others, of course, particularly in larger cities like Meltokio, but in general he didn’t worry about walking around in towns. Though this was an unfamiliar land to him. Perhaps things were worse here.
“I’m here to meet with Madam Kaufman,” Regal answered. “She’s the president of a trading guild in this area-- you have likely heard of them? I have a company in my own country and we’ve corresponded previously, but this will be our first meeting here.”
He smiled, the practiced, polite one he used while he was working. “We believe our organizations have the potential to be more helpful to people if we work together.”
After a moment he asked, “how long have you lived in the area, if you don’t mind me asking?”
thisominousblog:
He smiled, expression torn between amusement and a cringe of understanding. Paperwork to do with injuries on his premises was bad enough, but the idea of someone dying under his employment was… Tragic, of course, first and foremost, but the paperwork would likely be, well, astronomical.
Across town was perfectly doable alone, Regal thought, as far as safety was concerned anyway. He’d never visited this area, of course, and had asked George to hire him a guide. He hadn’t expected to be provided a guard instead. He supposed George’s concern was touching and he was perhaps either overestimating himself or underestimating the potential dangers of this new city. “I don’t expect trouble walking across town,” Regal said after a moment. “Though I am unfamiliar with the area so it could be difficult to say.”
An eyebrow raised at the comment. He didn’t know the other man well so he couldn’t gauge if it was a battle tactic or something to psychoanalyze. Though it wasn’t really his business to dwell on at the moment. “I can work with that, if you’d prefer.”
“How many towns have you visited lately?” Raven sighed, looking very much the frumpy ‘annoying drunk,’ as he so desperately wished to advertise. Well, he WAS that, at any rate, but he was also guard at the moment. Juggling two different personas was hard work~
But he had tragically gotten pretty good at it regardless.
“A visiting dignitary? That’s just ripe grounds for intrusion. Not like they kept it quiet.” Why would they? That was an exciting venture, not really all that frequent either. But where ‘gald’ was concerned, everything was different. Even though the danger was obvious, people were bound to advertise their wealth at every chance they got. Including the stupid leadership of the place who just couldn’t keep their traps shut about the important figure coming in hot.
… and there he was as the chosen guard. Joy of joys.
“So why are you here anyway?”

Regal felt the all too familiar creep of guilt as Zelos spoke. He had fallen out of touch again and greeted Zelos with baseless suspicion. Well. Not completely baseless, there had been an air of ulterior motive about him. Still, Regal rubbed his forehead before dropping his hands into his lap.
“I apologize for being distant,” Regal sighed, looking at Zelos with a serious look. “A lot has been going on at work. I must have lost track of the days.”
“Did you find a lovely lady~?”
“...”
“No. Nothing like that.”
thisominousblog:
Regal looked up at the greeting, and his eyes slightly narrowed as his friend approached him.
“Hello, Mr. Wilder,” he replied cautiously, “what do you need?”
“Just wanted to see how my favorite ceo is going~.” He moved to lean back, stretching a bit, “You’ve been so busy lately that a lot of us thought you had died.” He soon gave a playful look, “Did you find a lovely lady~?”

Regal smiled, reaching into his pocket to produce a travel-sized calendar. Flipping through the pages, he felt some of the tension in his shoulders relax. He was going to do it properly this time. No excuses.
“My earliest opening would be next Sunday,” he said. “If that day works for you, do you have a preferred time for us to meet?”
He thought back on plans they had made before, mind working quickly to string together an itinerary. Of course, their past discussions would make for a good start but he felt he should add to them something new. He wouldn’t want Yuan to think of him as lazy...
thisominousblog:
Regal nodded with Yuan’s sentiment. He certainly wasn’t upset to have avoided the opportunity to enjoy this particular quality of life. Still, it was interesting to learn about, though he wasn’t sure if Yuan enjoyed being picked over for information. He hoped he hadn’t made him feel too much like an experiment or some such thing.
Ah, yes. The outing. Regal certainly hadn’t forgotten about The Outing but it somehow seemed like it had been years since it had come up for the first time. Confidently ignoring the low heat he could feel growing in his cheeks he resisted the urge to imitate Yuan’s shifting of weight as well.
“If you are interested and willing, I have not changed my mind on it.” He wished he could formulate a way to talk about The Outing that didn’t feel so stilted and odd. He didn’t mean to use his business proposition voice but despite the type of outing The Outing was, he couldn’t quite approach it on the intimacy level such an outing would generally require. But…. maybe if they actually did go on The Outing his demeanor would change and they would be a little more comfortable. Or maybe Yuan was already comfortable and Regal was projecting? He cleared his throat, pushing down the doubts to deal with later.
yuan was the furthest thing from comfortable at the moment, but he was trying, and that’s what counts, right? at the confirmation that the Outing would certainly be a thing, the half-elf gave a very brief nod of his head in agreement with this. wait, was it a good thing? for a brief moment, the guardian second guessed his choices. going on this Outing meant that he’d be getting to know the lezarano president more, and was that something he was willing to risk?
no, no. it would be fine. suddenly back out now would just make him look like a wuss and that was the last thing he wanted to project. show his constant shifting moods and evolving thoughts. he was the calm and collected one.
right.
❛ then whenever is convenient for you is fine with me. ❜ he states in an even tone, despite the whirlwind thought racing through his mind. it’s not like he HAD anything important that kept him constantly busy, as long as he didn’t consider his guardian work to be that. it is important, but it isn’t as terribly pressing as he often made it seem. in fact, it was really boring. most of the time he spent just reading a book, gardening, or staring off into the distance thinking about old memories that he could recall.
#guardianofmana#[we all look up to and appreciate your rebellious nature]#[also went through p much our whole rp history across various blogs and lmao what a time]#it's been a long long time.mp3#did you remember regal gave yuan a gerbil before giving him the island? because i had forgotten the gerbil

“Why hello, Mr. President, how are you doing today~?” Yep, Zelos was up to something, moving to sit near the other.
Regal looked up at the greeting, and his eyes slightly narrowed as his friend approached him.

continued from here!:
“Great ta hear! Mostly ‘cause the paperwork I’d have to fill out for a noble dyin’ on my watch would be astronomical!” Naturally that was his only real concern in the matter. Why wouldn’t it be?? Those who didn’t understand were the sort who didn’t know how large that stack could be! It would take him double the lifetime to fill them out, which was, of course, why the guards chosen to look AFTER said nobles worked so hard at it.
…. maybe.
“I mean, we only have to make it across town, so… that’s doable, right?” Right. Except the monsters had been downright annoyin’ lately. Invading places where they shouldn’t be able to invade. Not to mention the monsters that wore human faces. Those were the ones you really had to look out for.
“I have a request for you though. Jus’ don’t tell anyone I’m guarding you, okay? I’m just a drunk annoying guy that won’t leave you alone.”
He smiled, expression torn between amusement and a cringe of understanding. Paperwork to do with injuries on his premises was bad enough, but the idea of someone dying under his employment was... Tragic, of course, first and foremost, but the paperwork would likely be, well, astronomical.

@thisominousblog “ take a seat, we’re gonna be here a while. ”
Sync frowns as he crosses his arms over his chest, shifting ever so slightly so not to crumble the tags. The man reminds him of Largo, an imposing giant lump of flesh. He’d prefer to be in the company of his coworker than some stranger.
“I prefer standing. And unless you’d like to mind my fist through your chest, I suggest you don’t force me to do otherwise.” If he was on his feet, he had a better chance of escape, a better chance to fight. He was better of in a position to readily move than not to. Sync could careless about what this stranger wanted of him.
Regal kept his face neutral, though it took some effort to do so. Young people were so... It felt like youths were getting more and more violent as time went by. Perhaps it was simply the crowd he had been around when he was younger that he hadn’t seen such behavior from his peers but since he’d met the group he had traveled with for such a long time it seemed like more and more people were ready to throw down at a moment’s notice.
“I have no interest in forcing you to sit,” he replied, keeping his sigh inward. “You are free to stand if you are more comfortable doing so.”

“if you die from this, i’m going to kill you.” (from Raven!)
Regal smiled wryly. "That sounds like a logistical nightmare for my soul, if I'm honest..."
Then more seriously he added, "though I will, of course, do my best to avoid dying-- by your hand or otherwise."

@thisominousblog “I think if we just fight the best we can, things will turn out okay.” (Flynn)
“That’s a good headspace to have but you always have to know your limits and know when to withdraw. Winning is one thing but it doesn’t mean much if we lose people along the way.”
Regal inclined his head. “You make a valid point. Ensuring the protection and safety of as many people as possible should certainly be one of the top priorities at any time.”
“I would consider the knowledge of when to withdraw to be part of ‘fighting our best’. Doing otherwise is more foolhardy than anything resembling a good performance.”

THINGS I’VE WRITTEN IN FANFICTION AS SENTENCE STARTERS.
“well no shit, ___, he just fell from the sky.” “don’t tell me i rescued an actual angel.” “if you die from this, i’m going to kill you.” “i deserve it, don’t i?” “this is what you’ve always wanted.” “how ironic that someone so kind is the cause of something so horrible.” “i loved you so much, but i thought you’d never look at someone like me.” “i wouldn’t touch that if i were you.” “is tension the way you show excitement?” “i think if we just fight the best we can, things’ll turn out okay.” “all i was doing was walking on water.” “i like you regardless of whether or not you’re good at conversation.” “anyone would get mad at you if you described them with a bad pun.” “you might be rational, but you’re the least calm person i’ve ever met.” “i’ve forgiven you, so won’t you accept that?” “consider your debt to me repaid!” “are you thinking about mushy stuff again?” “you wanted the truth, and i gave it to you.” “i wanted to tell you that i think what you did was very noble.” “am i not good enough?” “i didn’t come here because i want to be a hero, or because i want to make a difference. i just want to be seen.” “you could send me back anytime, so why don’t you?” “i can’t deal with this right now. i’m going to sleep.” “do you just not pay attention ever?” “why must you enjoy things like this?” “i’m obviously the only person i could ever love!” “why are you in my room?” “i wouldn’t settle for anything but the best.” “we’ve met before, but i expect you have a lot of encounters like that on the daily.” “i didn’t know better than to call strangers pretty.” “the world is not a kind place, is it?” “as long as you believe you’re a hero then you can totally be one!” “i just thought you were some fanboy.” “you can be pretty inspiring when you wanna be.” “you’re probably just as dead as i’m gonna be.” “you could have blown up the fucking planet! what’s wrong with you?” “i’ll try not to fear your wrath too much in the future.” “they didn’t hurt you or anything, did they?” “i didn’t, like, lace them with poison or anything. if you want i’ll even let you check!” “i’ve got a bad habit of making myself a distraction, if you catch my drift.” “are you going to be busy this weekend?” “i didn’t peg you as someone who would be so forward with your intentions.” “you have to remember on your own.” “did you really like him that much?” “my opinion of you does not make you good.” “you are not a good man.” “drink with me again.” “we gonna group up and kick ass?” “i never said it would fix the situation.” “i have a family i want to get back to.” “holy fuck, we’re rich people now!” “oh my god, i’ve never had money before.” “it seems like something worth investigating.” “i’ll take my just end and die along with the rest of you.” “i would prefer it if i wasn’t a bother to the people trying to get their work done.” “there are a lot of things that are stopping me, but i don’t know why.” “everyone has their time to leave the battlefield.” “why are you sorry? you were right.” “you look pathetic.” “this isn’t really the way i wanted to die at all, but it’s the way i’m going to.” “you could at least be eating something good!” “we’re wasting time by arguing.” “if you don’t want my help, you can go broke.” “i get it, you’re rich!” “i didn’t know you were capable of experiencing rational thought.” “i’d rather live in debt than die, wouldn’t you?” “i’m surprised you haven’t left yet!” “i don’t think i trust anyone else.” “let’s get outta here.”

“You’re welcome.” Isaac smiled back. “No, sorry, this is just for you. I was going to whip up something for mom next, then sit down to practice on the piano.” He’s already had his snack, which is how the thought to make something for Regal hit him. He ran his fingers thought the motions of a song in midair. “I think my Fantaisie Impromptu could use some work.” That first part of the song was especially tricky.
“Oh, no, I couldn’t.” Isaac said with some dramatics. “What would you ever do without all that paperwork to do. You would be soooo bored.” Isaac knew it was coming. He was slowly learning the ropes, and each month his father gave him more and more to handle in the company. “But maybe for the next board meeting, I could sit in?”
"That’s very professional of you,” Regal mused, “I wasn’t as eager a pupil when I was your age. I’m sure the piano is grateful for your attention.”
With a boisterous laugh, Regal replied, “oh it would be dreadful! I would have to sit out on the beach, enjoying the sunshine and cool tides. What a terrible way to spend my days.”
He thought over the last question seriously. There wasn’t a good reason not to allow it and if Isaac was feeling froggy who was Regal to keep him from leaping? “I don’t see why not; it would be beneficial for you to get a first hand look at how these proceedings go and for you and the other board members to get to know one another on a professional level before it’s time to phase me out completely.”
#isaaccecilbryant#Agreed but I'm looking forward to getting my own car back even if the work truck is fun#Whoa that sounds really cool!? What an exciting tiktok idea!! :D#lmao a flashdrive is a good idea#i have the folder on an external harddrive but i didn't bring that with me here

“You’ll master the ways of Urban Dictionary before you know it.” Isaac encouraged him. “And I’m glad. Made both myself! I figured by this time of day you could use a pick-me-up.”
Isaac leaned on the edge of the desk with both hands. “Hmmm…fun.” He gave a small sigh. “I guess I get to look forward to that when I take over the company from you.” Yeaaay boring meetings. Boring paperwork. Ah well, Regal knew Isaac was excited to take over, despite the less exciting aspects of the job.
Regal chuckled. “I appreciate the support. Did you bring some for yourself, will we eat together, or is this a gesture for me alone?”
He took a sip from his tea, seriously considering off loading the business call onto Isaac under the guise of introducing him to more of the company work responsibilities, but he knew that wouldn’t fly. Isaac might do it but it would absolutely not be a successful stealth mission.
“You’re welcome to take it over soon, since you sound so excited; give this old man a break.” He wasn’t ready to retire just yet, but it was certainly much closer than he felt it would ever seem.
#isaaccecilbryant#it's been a lot lmao i'm using a work car atm#what've you been up to?#also i don't have any of my reaction images on this laptop so that's why there aren't any lol

Regal didn’t pout per say but it was in the neighborhood. “It isn’t? I thought I had written the definition properly…”
But he brightened a moment after, nodding in response to his son’s question. “In a sense. She mentioned the website w w w dot urban dictionary dot com, and I was browsing it a little this morning. It has been quite informative. There has been a lot of new vocabulary introduced since I was young.”
“I think you grasp the definition, but I more meant the scale of it was off. Poggers should be closer to ‘epic’ in usage, I feel. While I am sure the tea and sandwich I brought are good, I do not think they’re at ‘poggers’ level.”

Isaac peaked around Regal’s desk and noticed all the little sticky notes with definitions on them. “Ah yes, the diction for urban usage. I see you’ve been productive with your morning.”
Regal nodded seriously, making a quick note next to his written entry for ‘poggers’ that just said ‘EPIC’ with two underlines. “I see. Next time I will utilize it properly. But I look forward to the tea and sandwich regardless of how poggers they may or may not be.”
“It was a little slow this morning,” he admitted, almost embarrassed. There was one thing he probably should have done but the man he needed to speak to was so boring yet talkative... it would have been his whole morning just to get the answer to a couple yes or no questions. This was certainly more informative.
#isaaccecilbryant#i think so?? ish? lol#i moved across the country for a new job. been here about a month and other than my car breaking down i think i've adjusted to a lot of livi#living here*#Missed you too!! excited to be here for *checks watch* some mystery period of time

☕️ for your character to bring mine a beverage "Dad? I brought you some tea and a sandwich."
"Ah, Isaac," Regal smiled, looking up as his son arrived. "That's very..." he lifted a post-it note from his desk, looking over the notes presumably written on it. "...poggers of you."
