Hassen Chalghoumi, a well-known imam from the suburbs of Paris and a longtime supporter of Israel, published a powerful statement praising the Jewish people: “I believe in miracles — but there is something about this nation that feels like a living miracle,” he wrote. He listed the many attempts to destroy the Jewish people throughout history — from the Pharaohs to the Nazis to the Arab states — and noted that all of them failed. Despite being small in number, he said, the Jewish people have a “unique strength and divine blessing,” and have brought the world figures like Einstein, Freud, and Kafka. He ended with a message to the Arab world: “If Arabs had clear vision, they would choose to cooperate with this nation and draw from its wisdom.”
