games that inspire me
watchdogs - an amazing game for its time with amazing hacking mechanics and playability and I love this game so much, owning every dlc and all that stuff. the second game is incredible too and I play that all the time as well also owning all the dlcs. these games are massive inspiration to me because of how each game is set with the first in a dystopian Chicago and the second in a bright sunny san Francisco. here is a video comparing them.
youtube
another big inspiration for me was the game slime rancher, set in a place called the far far range, the game is a shooter in not a way you can expect for a game like this. its bright and all the slimes have a goofy smile and you have to feed them to make ports to sell for money, this was a big inspiration for me because of the setting of the game. it is set in a dry area and i used that to make my desert. here is a video

games with the same mechanics as mine
1 - red dead redemption has the same wild west shooter aesthetic but it is an open world adventure game, it is way better than my game too, with many different likeable characters and lots of gameplay.
youtube
2 - cs2's dust map looks a lot like my game, it again matches my aesthetic and i think that the cs2 map looks amazing. the game is a shooter but it is turn based with a money aspect.
youtube
3 - Minecraft's mesa biome is very similar to my games look. it is a wide open sandy environment littered with dead bushes the video below shows some differences because you can build in this game and you cant in mine, this game with shader packs enabled looks INCREDIBLE

Research on 3d games
1 - counter strike 2
cs2 is a shooter game with a good set of music packs that you can equip different musical packs and they play in the background of the lobby and matches, it is similar to my game as there is a shooter mechanic and lots of music
youtube
2 - dayz is a survival game with a dynamic soundtrack that warns you silently when people are near, and you can hear the ocean and the players around you, the fires crackling and the animals clucking. it is similar to my game as it is set in a warzone. and it is a good game and has great replayability as replayability is the game
youtube
3 - subnautica is an amazing game with lots of speculative biology and an amazing world to explore, full of fauna. it has a massive 3d world with an open world adventure to play in the soundtrack is amazing and the gameplay is calm and fast paced at times

Making a mixtape in maya
we made a mixtape for all of our games, I decided to make a fairly simple one because i might hide it somewhere in my game.
making the cogs was challenging as I had to separately pull out the teeth and correctly align them, the uv mapping came out with a very light grey on a white background so it looked like there was nothing there at the start, i put a nice black background for this image

how sound cues influence players behaviours
the fnaf games again have many ways to warn the player suck as one of the enemy's making specific sounds when they draw close and you have to make the appropriate fixes to not die
youtube
here is the same video again, showing the warnings and specific sounds that play when specific enemy's get close. here is an amazing video i watched that helped during the research for this post

cognitive processing in games
watchdogs has 2 ways to play, stealth or loud. stealth is the focus, the sounds are muffled with the only loud sounds are getting noticed and preforming take downs, here is a video of this taking place
youtube
you can used silenced weapons in this game too, they are incredibly overpowered as they make no sounds, unlike silencers in real life, but the game is still fun.
the fnaf games are 'horror' games that has a lot o lore, coincidentally what I am listening to while I am writing this, uses many sound cues to warn the player when something is approaching.
youtube
this is a link to a playlist that shows what all the sounds warn when they play in game

emotional impact in games
the forest is a psychological horror game where you have to survive against a group of cannibalistic mutants. it is a survival game similar to rust or dayz, the music is eerie and cold making the players environment always scary, here is a gameplay video of the full game. the music and sounds used make me really scared of the darkness, making me love the forest
youtube
Watchdogs is an amazing adventure game with amazing music really showing the tense of the moments, like in a mission where you have to chase someone in a car, a really high speed chase music plays. every character is so well created and I love the game so much it makes me exited when I get to play all my favourite missions, here is a gameplay video.

one large gent
i made a 'boss' its a biggol guy but i have had a problem where he just walks over the obstacles, i might keep that because he is really big and the only fix would be to scale him down and he doesn't look to intimidating if he is slightly taller than you

What are the ethics of my game?
I don't see nothing bad with my game, using a banjo it considers the game as fantasy violence, thus it is rated a PEGI 7 or possibly a PEGI 3, nothing over a 12 because there is no blood, cursing, drug abuse in game and in app purchases. it could be bad for people who wanted their children to play the banjo then might want to bat someone over the head with it then uhm I don't know what to do about that. it its a long shot but anything could happen with a violent games.
these are the PEGI ratings used in England, I forgot to mention other bad descriptions such as sex, gambling and discrimination. all are an easy way to shoot straight up to the 18 and rarely 16. i dont plan on adding any form of in game purchases or drugs in my game.

games research
crossy road is a small game where you are a chicken and you surprisingly given the harsh task of crossing a road. simple right? no it isn't. there are various things blocking your way like speeding cars, rivers and fast trains. you can play as many different characters that look like they were made in magical voxel. the whole game is made with 3d pixels. I like this game you like this game, everyone like this game, its so simple and classic. I decided on a more realistic look to my game so I will not use magical voxel for my game.
youtube
Minecraft is an amazing game too and it is another cube game where you can jump but not to avoid cars, to destroy trees, craft items to defeat the ender dragon, the final boss. this game doesn't look like it was made with magical voxel but it looks like every block was made via uv mapping on an application like photoshops pixel pencil tool. again i wont use the blocky art style because i like the realistic look. here is some gameplay footage of minecraft
youtube
teardown is a game where you get to destroy things, that's about it. it was also made in magical voxel and it is really fun. there are also good mods for this game with more weapons to destroy the stuff
youtube
fugl is a game where you fly around as a little voxel bird. I think it looks amazing from far away, it looks like a Nintendo 64 game and I really like that feel. I wont use the art style because it wont fit my game, as i said before.

Art research
ArtStation - Sir Carma
this artist has made some incredibly detailed renders, i really like this one.
i love how the water glows and the gentle colors mix so well. i could use this to make all the colors in my game work together to look really good.
Home - Voxelmade
these voxels look amazing, they are really detailed. if i decided to use magicalvoxel in my work then i will make sure to use really detailed art and take my time in building it. i really like the big ship that he has made. and i especially like the water again

What is UV mapping?
UV mapping is the 3d modeling process of projecting a 3d model's surface to a 2d image for texture mapping. you make the image 2d to draw on then you add the map to a 3d image to then make it simple for the render.
this is the UV map for a gun. you can see every part even parts that you dont see much of, like inside the barrel of the gun

strange weapons in games
Mr. toots is a unicorn that farts out rainbows. it IS incredibly gassy and looks very out of place in the game it is in, red faction Armageddon. here is a little gameplay thing for it
youtube
the dubstep gun is a gun used in saints row that shoots music and it is really powerful, i think it looks cool and it is a cool idea for a musical gun. here is some gameplay footage
youtube
the groovitron is a very strange power glove lookin thing that makes everyone dance in ratchet and clank. it is similar to the boogie bomb in fortnite making everyone unable to attack in an area.
youtube
the mutated milk in tf2 is a throwable grenade type thing, when thrown at someone the bread thing inside attracts the enemies by biting them, the secondary effect will cover the enemies in milk and then when you shoot them the milk has a 60% life steal effect
youtube
the cluckshot is a strange weapon where a small chicken pilots a gun that you can shoot. it is really weird but it is a powerful weapon, it is hard to get as you have to do a secret task to get it
youtube
the hand cannon in dead space is probably the most normal weapon in this list. it is simply a gun and thats it. here is some gameplay
