Sometimes it's hard to remember them this little and sometimes it feels as though it was just last week!! #tbt to FIVE years ago (how did that happen??) My sweet second born, I remember taking this photo, I couldn't believe how focused he was on pouring water from cup to cup. He spilled some along the way but nothing was going to deter him from this task! Today I was having a conversation with a customer during which she told me about a wonderful fruit bread at her favourite bakery (you'll come to learn that many of my conversations end up somewhere between food and chocolate). I told her that it sounded delicious and I may have to go buy a loaf to try. I had finished her property and was working several houses up when I heard her sweet voice call for me out her car window. She had driven out to that bakery and purchased a loaf of this decadent bread for me to share with my family tonight. To her, it was a small act but to me it was heart warming and a true form of kindness. "I CAN'T" Its a phrase that plagues us. I spoke to a friend today who said "I don't know how you do it, I definitely couldn't". For those of you who don't know, Ryan and I own a landscape company. Today, I can proudly say I am not only the owner but also the operator of a successful landscape company but took a while for me to stop saying "I can't". When we first started out I had never in my life cut a single pass with a lawnmower. Didn't know how to even start a trimmer, let alone use one without scalping the turf and the backpack blower... needless to say, I blew myself right over a couple times learning how to use it. The first time I drove with our trailer hooked up I was horrified. Pull into a gas station where there are other vehicles with the trailer hooked up? "I can't do that". Drive on the highway with the trailer? "I can't do that". Complete a full maintenance service to 13 properties in a day by myself? "I can't do that". Wait, you want me to back the trailer into a driveway where there is another vehicle??? "Um, Heck no, I can't do that!" UNTIL I DID! The only things we CAN'T do are the things we don't bother trying to do. It's not always easy, my wonderful and patient husband and business partner can attest to the dents in the truck and trailer from jacknifing it. More than once. The training me through my tears thinking I will NEVER be able to cut a straight line in the grass. I wanted to quit, more than once, but I was not going to admit defeat. I was going to do it if it was the last thing I would do. I am so glad for Ryan's patience with me and my stubbornness because I learned that I can do anything with the right support and if I set my mind to it. Time to stop saying "I can't" because YOU CAN. LOVE this!! I have this exact problem, I am so afraid to miss something in my notes and so self conscious about speaking among groups of people that I end up missing the whole context and any opportunities to showcase my abilities. I often feel my contributions are not as good as "Sally's" or "Moe's" so I keep them to myself. Looking for some help/advice with our sweet Max. Many of you know he has suffered from chronic ear infections that multiple vets attribute to "unknown allergies". We have tried just about every food, most recently an all natural freeze dried raw diet (with zero preservatives) with no success and it has only gotten worse. He now has an open sore on his back (I can only assume from scratching) and seems to be in so much pain. If you're squeamish, don't go to the second picture. We are out of our league, seeing yet another new vet tomorrow but I am interested in hearing if anyone else has had a similar experience and can shed some light? Any tips, advice or specific things to ask the vet are welcome and appreciated. We hate seeing this angel of a dog suffer.
