Roses and kittens “episode 4″
“So” Hannah started, knocking her opponent off the island with a wall of thorns “something strange is definitely going on at the mission site.”
“You think? It was smooth sailing until like, last week.” Purpled responded as he finished off his own attacker with a stab to the chest.
The crowd cheered as their champions tore through the competition. Events such as this were common. Rose often had her matches held in the largest arenas, drawing in massive crowds. Citizens from all around Hypixel came to watch the best of the empire’s warriors demonstrate their skill in combat.
Sometimes it’s all three of the champions, other times it’s just one of them. Today Rose and Vio were performing for their adoring fans.
For anyone else it may not have been the best time to talk, but Rose found little challenge in her routine matches. Hence the distracted discussion.
“There hasn’t been any kind of resistance in a while. The stealth tactics were working so well. How can they even see us?”
“I don’t know..” Hannah admitted.
“Well maybe you should get on that miss magic.”
“Oh like I’m in charge of knowing things, why don’t you figure it out ‘shadow of Hypixel’?” Hannah rolled her eyes as she put air quotes around one of Purpled’s many titles. With a flick of her wrist she sent an opponent flying away with a vine.
Purpled dodged a slash from an attacker, teleporting to a perch above her. He leaned over to look down at her.
“Whatever, I’ll just get Boomer to look into it. Either way we can’t tell Hypixel. He’ll start breathing down our necks, and I like our current arrangement.” Purpled said “it took a while for us to get to this point, and I’m not throwing it away just because this world is full of weirdos.”
Hannah wholeheartedly agreed. At the moment, Hypixel was letting them run their operations relatively unsupervised. But she knew that the freedom they had would disappear as soon as they weren’t yielding results.
She threw down a seed that grew into a flytrap, snatching up the aggressor in front of her.
“Alright, no one says anything the boss, agreed?” Hannah held out her hand.
Purpled leapt from his perch above her, and In a swift maneuver Hannah caught him, carrying them both above the islands with the strength of her wings.
“Agreed. You wanna end this?” Vio asked.
She smirked. Channeling her powers, Rose engulfed the floating islands in vines, and crushed them until they were dust.
___
Tina felt like she had improved. She really did. Having someone else to practice with was working infinitely better than trying to do flips and air boxing alone in her room.
There was something exhilarating about standing in a field and trying to beat the crap out of her friend. Neither of them got too injured, as their respective transformations boosted both durability and pain tolerance.
Callahan was floating on the sidelines, occasionally giving pointers. He was able to help them both improve, and develop at least some technique.
Tina threw a punch that sent Foolish back a couple feet. As he recovered, she readied her stance again.
“Ow” Foolish pouted “why are you so mean”
“Because you're bad and you suck at this. I’ll get you!” Tina shouted as she lunged at him.
He laughed and sidestepped to dodge her strike.
They continued to spar like this until the sun started to go down. The area they were in was fairly remote, and it was unlit during the night. Tina said her goodbyes and parted ways with Foolish.
She walked home with Callahan by her side. When Tina got home she flopped onto her bed. The training had helped. She felt a little better about her abilities if the minions came back. Or when. She wasn’t really too sure about them.
Callahan had informed her that Hypixel currently had three champions, and that she’d already met all of them.
Tina thought back to her past opponents. There was the guy with the giant frog. That had been strange. She never could have predicted how her life would change the day he first showed up.
Then there was the kid with the purple cloak. He had been a bit scary, being the first one who wasn’t blindsided by her. But now she wasn’t alone, and she was sure they could beat him again.
And finally there was the one with the wings that almost seemed to glow in the light. The image was burned into her mind. Tina knew she was evil and trying to take over the world, but she could appreciate the aesthetic.
Tina fell asleep thinking about wings the colour of autumn and dangerous flowers.
She woke up to the sound of her phone’s notifications. Tina groggily looked over at the invitation on her screen.
Who is calling for you, guardian?
“Good morning Callahan” Tina said, still shaking off the sleepiness “oh it’s Karl. He’s asking to hang out today.”
I don’t know who that is. But I trust you’ll remain vigilant even in your off time.
“Don’t worry, I will” Tina smiled at Callahan and looked back at her phone to respond to Karl.
T: sounds good :)
And so she got ready to head about her day.
Hanging out with Karl was nice. Sure the minions of Hypixel could show up at any moment and spread distrust and discord, but one had to maintain a proper work life balance when fighting the forces of evil.
They went and ordered drinks. Karl pretended like he had no money on him and Tina ended up paying for them both. He claimed he would pay her back, but only time would tell.
As they were walking down a road, Tina felt the now familiar feeling that came with the champion’s arrival. Across the street, a shouting match broke out.
Tina racked her brain in how to get to the champion without involving Karl. She wanted to keep her friends out of danger, but she knew it would be incredibly suspicious to leave without explaining why. Even an excuse could lead to him following her.
“Tina, what’s up? You just stopped mid conversation” Karl said.
Tina realized that she had stopped walking. “Oh, uh, I have to go. Don’t follow me!” Perfect. 10/10 no notes exit. Tina turned and ran towards the energy.
On her way, she transformed mid run. Ribbons elegantly flowing behind her. She did a twirl, barely losing any speed.
Tina skid to a stop in front of the champion, coming face to face with a giant frog.
“Yo! The same trick won’t work on me twice, Betsy here’s come along to put up a good fight.” The voice came from on top of the large creature.
Standing on its head was a man Tina knew to be Amphibian, the minion she encountered when she first became a guardian.
“You won’t get away with this!” Tina declared. She put up her fists.
Amphibian leapt back as the frog he had been standing on moments prior lunged forward right towards Tina.
She yelped and dove to the side. She felt an impact beside her as the best cracked the pavement. the frog turned towards her, and Tina jumped, vaulting herself over the frog.
Her vault landed her within a few feet of Amphibian. She nearly went to strike when a voice shouted out.
“Watch out!” The voice cried. Tina was pulled back just as a large frog tongue crashed into the ground she had resided in just seconds ago. She was tinged behind a column of a nearby building.
Tina was standing face to face with Karl, who seemed to have ignored her very clear and reasonable request when she left without a good reason. Worry was evident on his face, and his eyes kept darting behind her to where she knew the champion and his beast were.
“What's going on?” He asked Tina.
“There isn’t really time to explain” Tina gave a weak smile.
Callahan floated up beside the two.
Guardian, it seems you are surrounded by people with the potential to become protectors of this realm.
Eyes growing even wider, Karl seemed alarmed by the new presence.
“Tina, what is that?” Karl gestured at Callahan.
“Do you trust me and that I wouldn’t do anything that would be too bad?” Tina asked.
“Of course,” Karl responded.
Then do you, Karl of this realm, accept the duties and power of being a guardian? Do you swear to protect this realm from those who wish to do it harm?
With one last glance at Amphibian and his frog, Karl turned his gaze back to Tina and Callahan.
“I do”
In a flash of light Karl transformed. On his head were two round ears. He had a thin tail and fine whiskers on his face.
“I’m a mouse!” He exclaimed.
“Oh, You are!” Tina turned her attention back to the minion and his frog. “Care to help dealing with this guy?”
Karl took a small bow with a dramatic flourish and grinned.
“Stealthy secret gift!” He said in a playful tone, and disappeared.
Tina stepped out from behind the pillar.
“Thank you for politely waiting while I took my brief break. Now prepare for defeat!” She ran towards the side of the frog to close the distance between her and Amphibian.
On the other side of the creature, a small box appeared. It was colourfully wrapped with a nice little bow. A short tune played from inside the box, and it burst into confetti. The blast seemed to stun the frog, and sent the champion towards Tina. Reacting quickly, commendably so she must say, she aimed her hands towards him.
“Purifying heart blast” she shouted. With her declaration, the minion and his frog disappeared.
In the aftermath of the fight, Tina looked around. Standing across the street was Karl, grinning like a madman.
“Care to explain what just happened?”

The Garden - one-shot
They share a garden now.
Tina grows the fruits and vegetables that Hannah bakes into pies and cakes. They’re not very good but Tina loves them anyway, because she’s the one who made them. She tends to the pumpkins and melons in the backyard and the sugarcane by the pond.
Sometimes she’ll sit on Hannah’s shoulders and pick the apples that would be just out of reach on her own. Those are the ones that always taste the best.
Tina has cats named after the vegetables and fruits she grows. They will occasionally sit on her and Hannah’s lap as they watch the sunset.
Hannah grows flowers that adorn the front of their house and line flower beds in the back. Mostly roses, but she’s grown a particular fondness for periwinkle. She keeps a pot of them by her bedside.
Tina’s bedside table is filled with small trinkets and crafts. Little among us and Roblox figures. Gifts handmade and given with a small blush and a smile.
There’s a clearing in the bushes where Hannah practices with her sword. Tina took her up on the offer to teach her combat. She’s not very good yet, but Hannah can tell she’s improving so much each day. She loves how passionate Tina can get.
They’ll talk for hours. Hannah talks about the past. Things that happened before Tina arrived on the server. She talks about burned bridges and familiar faces. It’s nice to talk to someone who listens.
Tina talks about the future. She talks about hopes and dreams and plans. Expressed anxieties and whispered assurances.
Sometimes people visit. They host their friends and laugh, running around and messing with boats. Most of the time it’s just the two of them. It’s comfortable, being in each other’s company.
They spend their time together, in the garden they share.

Roses and kittens “episode 3″
“What is that?“ Foolish pointed at Callahan, bewilderment evident on his face.
“This is my, uh, my dog! Yes, this is my dog Callahan.” Tina blurted out the first excuse she could think of.
As she said it, she pushed Callahan from where he had been floating to the floor, hoping that Foolish hadn’t registered that dogs don’t do that.
“A dog, riiiight…” he enunciated the last word.
Foolish bent down to pick up Callahan, holding him out in front of him to get a better look. “This is a dog, sure..”
Unhand me
“Tina, your dog talks”
At this point Tina was a bit frazzled. People couldn’t know she was a guardian. People couldn’t know about Callahan. People shouldn’t even be able to see or hear Callahan.
People shouldn’t be able to see Callahan.
“Oh my god. You can see him” Tina stared at Foolish in disbelief. “How?”
Foolish was still holding Callahan, who seemed to be getting more displeased with every passing second.
“What does that mean? Is he supposed to be a hallucination or something? Because sorry to break it to you, but you have a floating dog” Foolish said. He paused for a second. “Also you have cat ears”
“Uh, well you see..” Tina started. Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted the edge of a purple cloak.
She immediately grabbed Foolish’s hand and headed to the back exit. “No time to explain, we gotta go!” Tina rushed them both out of the cafe.
Once outside, she led them away from the cafe to try and get back to her home.
Tina was rushing. She needed to get Foolish somewhere out of the way. After that she could think of a plan, but she couldn’t let her friend be hurt because he got caught up in her mess. She was pulling him along, trying to think of where he would be out of the way.
As they paused briefly at an intersection Tina caught a flash of colour before tackling her friend onto the grass. They narrowly missed the blade that now took up the space they had just been in moments before.
Tina kicked her leg into her opponent’s chest, sending him stumbling back a couple steps.
She got up and dragged Foolish with her. She stood between him and her opponent.
She prepared to try and create the blast that would send her enemy away, but it seemed he caught on and threw something. Whatever he just did causes him to disappear, making a temporary retreat.
Tina led Foolish into a nearby building, all too aware that the champion could return at any moment.
“Look, I know this must be very confusing, but we need to get you away. This guy could be very dangerous and I don’t want you to get hurt because if you did it would be all my fault and I would never be able to forgive myself so-”
“Tina” Foolish interrupted Tina’s panicked spiral and put his hand on her shoulder and looked straight into her eyes “what can I do to help?”
“Oh Foosh..” Tina started, but she was distracted by a glowing light that grew in front of Foolish’s chest.
Callahan appeared, floating in front of both of them.
Oh. You might have just gained some assistance in your mission, guardian.
“What do you mean Callahan?” Tina asked. “What’s going on?”
It seems your friend has the potential to become a guardian alongside you. He may help you drive away the minions of Hypixel.
“Are you talking about me?” Foolish asked, eyes wide in disbelief.
Callahan turned his attention to him.
Do you, Foolish of this realm, accept the duties and power of being a guardian? Do you swear to protect this realm from those who wish to do it harm?
Foolish glanced at Tina, looking for some sort of confirmation. She gave a small nod.
“Ok, I accept.”
Foolish floated up, and in a flash of dazzling light he was transformed. Much like Tina, he had been given a different outfit. He had a shark tail and when Foolish gasped, it revealed a mouth full of sharpened teeth.
“Oh Tina! This is crazy, how long have you been hiding this?” Foolish asked as he checked out his magical form.
“Oh you know, not too long,” she said. This was all moving a bit quickly for Tina, but she knew they would have to turn their focus back to the immediate problem they still faced.
The group’s momentary respite ended as the champion returned, apparently having decided he was no longer in danger of being caught off guard and sent back.
“If you can slow him down long enough, I’ll be able to send him back to his realm.” Tina told Foolish. He nodded. They both headed out of the building to fight.
The two split up to confront their opponent from each side. Tina ducked to dodge an arc from the blade.
“Alright, let’s see what you can do!” Tina shouted. The champion’s face turned from  an expression of concentration to something a bit more smug.
“I think you’re a bit outclassed here, but if you insist.” He said, preparing a strike.
“I wasn’t talking to you” Tina said with a grin “now!”
She looked over to Foolish. He lifted his hands out in front of him, and began to focus.
“Shimmering sparkle storm!”
Tina backed up a few steps as the air around the champion began to glow. Sparkling drops of light appeared, moving like a heavy rainfall.
“Ugh, what the” the minion tried to bat away the droplets. His movement was limited in the area the storm affected.
Tina took her chance, and readied her power. She spun and aimed her attack.
“Purifying heart blast!”
In a flash the champion was gone, sent back to Hypixel.
Tina ran over to Foolish, jumping up and down in excitement.
“We did it Foosh! We did it!” Tina was grinning madly. Tina let out an excited noise and Foolish parroted her, matching her in level of energy.
“I know! Tina is crazy! You went pew, and bam he was gone, you were so cool!”
“You were kind of cool too, you know with the sparkles and stuff”
“Really? You think so?” Foolish said in a high pitched voice, pretending to be humble.
“Yeah! Thanks for the help, I couldn’t have done it without you.”
“Anytime. But seriously, what is all this? We were just attacked by a purple guy with a sword. That’s crazy”
Tina thought about how to explain everything. There was so much, and she was very new herself. Maybe Callahan could explain it better.
“Let’s head back to the cafe. I’ll get Callahan to explain.”
“Oh of course, let’s go talk to your dog” Foolish grinned and started running before Tina could hit him.
___
Hannah was just minding her business in the common room. She was fiddling with a small flower she had grown in her hands. It was a small stem of lavender. She grew the buds and watched as they bloomed.
Suddenly, a bright light flashed from the ceiling, and from it came Purpled, who landed splayed out on his stomach.
“Hey, are you alive?”
“There’s more of them” Purpled mumbled, not moving from where he laid.
“Oh”
