Seriously, I don’t see how it can ‘reaches more potential readers’ when people who used to buy from Comixology:

Can’t even find their books,

Can’t tell if they have buy a certain book before,

Can’t tell if the book is on sale easily, and

Can’t read them properly on a PC (the Kindle Cloud Reader is so bad that I don’t even want to read anything using it)

And we used to have ALL the above features. It's not like they decided to do it all of the sudden. All those time for them to plan and they can't come up with a transition?

Really? Can't you work on those "improvements' BEFORE the change? It's like taking a perfectly functional Windows 8 computer, wipes it clean, installs Windows 98 on it, and says "don't worry we're working on improving it :)"

For AU squares, you would still need to include the time/dimension-travelling inside the fanwork somewhere. For example, if you want to write a Pirates AU, only something like Character A travelling to a world where pirates are a thing, or into the One Piece world, or they become a pirate after travelling back in time in their own world, etc. etc. would count. You don’t have to do a whole exposition about how or why Character A time/dimension travels, you can always just establish that it happened and keep the main focus of the fic on the pirate world or their journey as a pirate. But the time/dimension travel element does need to exist somewhere in your fanwork.
