Megalist of Tropes and Themes to Tag Your Story With

If you’re prone to staring at your tags on AO3 wondering “what the hell do I put here?”, knowing you want to add a tag like “friends to lovers” or “found family” but not remembering all the popular tropes and themes everyone is into, this is for you. I basically spent an entire night on this so I hope it helps.

Notes:

I tried to keep it general and avoid really obscure tags no one would ever use.

This is made for AO3 and thus there’s a lot of fandom or fannish stuff in here. 

I didn’t include any “inappropriate” tags. Feel free to make your own list.

Romance tropes and themes at the bottom. (Not all of them have to be romantic, but if they’re generally associated with romance and there are very few gen fics with that tag, it went there.)

a fun fact that people may not know about me is that i’m regular about media. i’m so normal about things i enjoy. i never ever get weird or obsessive about them and I consume and enjoy them completely normally. also im a fucking liar

thinking abt that post that says ur a mosaic of everyone you have ever loved.... like,, yeah. i still listen to an album a friend showed me 7 years ago. i wear my grandma's old dress whenever i miss her. every beach i go to makes me yearn for my hometown. i remember the songs my dad once burned into a CD for my mum. i wear blush bc my grumpiest co-worker once said it looks good on me. when i was going through a fallout with someone, i carried around a picture they gave me as gift in the back of my phone. whenever i have a flan, i think of my friend who i lost contact with years ago who once made a killer flan. maroon lipsticks remind me of an ex i once loved, and yet i wear them still. i keep a mirror someone gave me as a farewell gift. ughhh i miss and treasure everyone and everything so deeply.
