Because we give the impression that we're gender-conforming, femmes are often ignored in queer or lesbian space, even though the very essence of femme means femininity that exists in parallel with queerness.
Femme invisibility is a very real, very hurtful thing. It invalidates us. It dishonors us. It makes us feel we must constantly prove our right to exist in the LGBTQIA+ universe because our brand of queer is not in plain sight.
Be champions of femme visibility. See us.

Who am I? I guess it's time for an introduction!
My name is Tiffany (she/her) and I'm a butch/femme romance fiction author. I'm also a stroke survivor who's been happily married to the love of her life for 25 years. We have an awesome 18-year-old daughter and I was once a pretty well-known curly hair specialist in Florida. (I became an author when I couldn't do hair anymore—stupid stroke). I'm obsessed with classic 70's music, am a huge foodie, and identify as pagan.
I write happily-ever-after books within the sensual, passionate b/f dynamic. Those of us who live in this world sometimes need an escape from the messy realities of our lives, and that's what I bring to people. Life sadly doesn't always imitate art, but at least I can provide a diversion once in a while. While the subjects in my books can get a little hairy at times—stalking, domestic violence, loss/grieving, to name a few—there's always a happy ending. My books run the gamut from contemporary, romantic suspense, and paranormal to a series called The Dance, which is specifically geared toward the 40+ midlife crowd. You can find out more at https://www.tiffanyetaylor.com.
The butch/femme dynamic encompasses so many different flavors—from soft butch to stone femme—that it's impossible to pay homage to them all. My characters tend to be modeled on my own friends and spouse: harder butches, strong femmes, she/her pronouns. I have a Facebook group called Whimsical Dreams where we have discussions about my books, characters, upcoming releases, snippets of works in progress, etc. You are more than welcome to come and play with us:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/thewhimsicaldreams
I also started another FB group in late 2021 called Butch/Femme Sapphic Fiction Readers for readers, writers, and publishers of butch/femme fiction. In the world of sapphic fiction, the butch/femme dynamic isn't nearly as visible as it should be, but at least this gives readers a place to start.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/butchfemmesapphicfictionreaders/
So glad to be here!

Independent bookstores around the country have a particularly clever lifeline, one perfectly suited to the unprecedented moment we find ourselves in. The strange part? It came into being just weeks before the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic, and before the bookstores started closing up shop wondering if they’d reopen at all.
The lifeline in question is called Bookshop.
In simple terms, it’s a super clean, user-friendly online bookstore whose raison d’être is supporting independent bookstores — not simply with exposure or resources (though that’s certainly a factor), but with cold hard cash…

Every time someone reblogs my butches over 30 post only to add comments about how they want the affections of butches over 30 or how they desire them (eg “step on me daddy” shit), I die a little on the inside because these comments are all missing the point.
There are not enough posts that express positivity about older butches that aren’t also doing so in a way that makes it about what butches can do for you or how people want them sexually or romantically. This post was about appreciating butches platonically. It was also about simply loving how they move through the world in unique and incredible ways. If you can’t do that then you don’t really love butches.
Desire is not the same as caring for and uplifting someone.
As a femme lesbian it is always a privilege and a treasure to know butches regardless of the kind of relationship we have, because it’s not about what butches give me. It’s about being in community with them and watching them be happily butch in their lives. Butch is beautiful not just in the way butches look but how they behave and physically move and embody what butch is for them. That’s what I’m admiring in butches over 30.
