Kuruk Weekend day 2 Dreams and Nightmares

A Avatar the Last Airbender fanfiction for @kuruk-weekend event Kuruk Weekend day 2 Dreams and Nightmares and set in the Kuruk lives AU.

Kuruk find himself in a dark hallway with mist right up his feet and he cannot help but feel something wrong as he run down the hallway and he see his beloved wife with her back turn to him and Kuruk cry out, "Ummi!" and she turn, only to show that her face is a blank and he scream in horror.

Kuruk wake up with sweats on his body before he is remind that he is in his home while a baby cry and Ummi, still have her face, said to the baby, "There, there. It is okay, little one." Kuruk don't understand why he keep having the same terrible nightmare of Ummi not having her face while his wife comfort him, "Kuruk, we are alright. We are here for you. I'm here for you." and Kuruk said to her, "Thank you, Ummi. You by my side have made me a better man. I would be lost without you." and Ummi said, "Don't joke on something like that. We have to rest." before the couple goes back to sleep.

All right hear me out here, the avatars with the song "The Moon Will Sing by the Crane Wives"

But I am specifically thinking of Kuruk and Kyoshi blaming themselves for the death of Ummi and Kelsang, and not doing more to stop it even though it really wasn't their fault. They forever blame themselves even after they pass on themselves.

"Name your courage now We could have had anything, anything else Instead, you hoarded all that's left of me"-Roku, as he viewed as a brother, Sozin, betrayed him left him to die and then went on to commit horrible actions of war and terrorism. And then wondering how things might have been different if he had just ended Sozin. Then maybe Ta min wouldn't have been a widower. In fact have him also blame himself for the death of Gyatso.

Finally "Swallowin' your doubt

Like swords to the pit of my belly

I want to feel the fire that you kept from me"- Korra feeling like she not only failed as the avatar but that she failed to live up to Aang's Legacy.

Ummi Headcanons:

She's an artist, who enjoys weaving, painting, drawing, & sewing.

She's the one who decorates their home since Kuruk kind of just left his home kind of barren until she moved in.

her favorite color is purple

she's very close with her family.

She was ready to close to her father her mother is out of the picture

She is from big family ( at least three siblings) she is the youngest.

She's very close with her family in the North Pole and visits them every year

She likes to bake frequently time to time, her favorite thing to bake are blueberry cookies ( She introduces Kuruk to them and he loves them.)

She's a really good dancer and knows how to play the lute

She hates it when people talk badly about her loved ones and is very protective of them..

She's a free spirit who likes to travel.

She a collector of tiny trinkets.(Random tea sets , scented candles, small decorated box or chests, pieces of fabric, and etc. (She may have a slight hoarding problem.)

She's a really good water bender. Like above Kavik but just below Katara. (Kuruk ends up showing her some of his moves.)

Kuruk/Kyoshi era timeline format (??)

idk if anyone will see this but if you interest please vote and/or reblog :]

Im doing some math to calculate and organize each piece of information of the whole era of Kuruk/early Kyoshi's

Its getting more long/complex/detaild that i expected to be and im finding troble figuring how to post it in a pratical way

("Details" means like: where did i find the information, logic process, conection between events or characters, teories and implications etc.)

[I try starting with Jesa's part thinking it would be shorter/easier but already took like a whole page, so im not sure how to put all this in a pratical, easy to read/understand way]

I dont even know if you all are interested in this, but i was going to do ether way and i think this is something some people may like it (poor Kuruk fans with crumbs of information)

Headcanon that Yangchen was in honest to god tears when she had to observe her successors love lives because she’s the only one with the ability to flirt:

Kuruk, attempting small talk with Ummi: hey girl, how are you liking this, um, day???????

Yangchen, sighing tiredly: he’s so charming until he meets a girl he actually likes

Kyoshi, walking by Rangi and waving: hey Ran- *trips on a rock and falls flat on her face*

Yangchen, hiding her face in her hands: no, it’s too painful, I can not watch anymore of this. That girl is so lucky Rangi already likes her

Roku: Ta Min! You, uh, have eyes

Yangchen: *repeatedly bangs her head against a wall*

Aang, during the cave of two lovers: haha, I definitely wouldn’t wanna kiss you!

Yangchen: guys let me go down there. I swear I can save this just let me possess him for like three minutes. You guys don’t understand our entire race is based on his ability to get a woman LET ME DOWN THERE-

Korra: wow, Asami, you’re the best friend I’ve ever had!

Yangchen, on the verge of an episode: HOW IS IT PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE TO HAVE A CRUSH ON SOMEONE WHILE ACTIVELY PUSHING THEM IN THE FRIEND ZONE GET A GRIP KORRA

Headcanon:

Aang would sometimes summon his past lives for the most mundane of things.

Yangchen for air nomad culture. (They even played air ball.)

Kuruk for how to play Pai sho. (Every time they play Aang learns of another fact about Kuruk's life that was just miserable.)

Kyoshi for talking about sky bison. (Pengpeng was her animal companion)

And Roku for just about anything underneath the sun. (He's basically Aang's adoptive father like Gyatso.)

So here's another headcanon for Kuruk and Yangchen.

So from @kyoshist 's videos Yangchen **adores** Iroh

Right?

Well when she couldn't find him.

Kuruk offered to help using his hunting/ tracking skills to find him for her.

Needless to say Yangchen and Iroh love to talk over a spot of tea. They also relate to each other in losing a loved one and death and feeling like it was their fault.

Kuruk and Iroh like to play Pai sho together.

I already talked to @ijjstlostthegame about this on discord but a while back I came across this video on tik tok https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTNsSmWLC/

and thought of reasons why Kuruk didn't get Ummi's face back through the mother of faces:

1. He didn't know about her existence. Plausible she seems to be a spirit not commonly known about.

2. He did know but someone would always beat him to find the mother of faces before he did. Mother of faces only show up

3. He needed Ummi to actually be there but unlike with other victims, Koh kidnapped her. In this scenario he probably knew about the Mother of faces and was trying so hard to hunt down Koh so he could bring Ummi to the mother's face pools and get her face back

4. The mother of faces actively avoided him since we know most spirits avoid Kuruk.

Just some Yangchen and Kuruk Headcanons:

Before he met Ummi, whenever he was having really bad nightmares from his battles, Yangchen would hum to him to help him sleep.

Jetsun would do the same for her after her episodes.

At some point he learned about Jetsun and what happened to her, so he went into the spirit world to try and find her for Yangchen.

So that way at least one of them could have some closesure.

They hugged, a lot. First time they hugged was when Kuruk showed Yangchen the airbending move he invented. (Which she would not shut up about.)

Last time they hugged before he died was when he realized he was going to die without saving Ummi.

Kuruk probably had at least one if not several different mini statues of Yang Chen in his house, it always made her feel more guilty with how much he looked up to her.

Yangchen tried to take over his body once, and it was when that incident the maid happened. She wasn't able to but he hugged him when he realized what happened in the morning.

When Nyahitha confirmed that he was dying a little each time he fought a dark spirit. Yangchen tried to heal, she even tried with water from the spirit Oasis, it didn't work. When it didn't work she apologized repeatedly to him but he just smiled and said it was fine.

Yangchen nagged him a lot whenever he wasn't taking care of himself, which was almost all the time:

Yangchen: " Kuruk was last time you ate, drank?, slept?"

"Kuruk you can't keep drinking like this, you'll damage your liver!"

"Kuruk b you can't keep fighting to the brink of death like this!"

Yangchen begged him to find another solution for dealing with the dark spirits.

She also hated how much everybody looked down on him, even his own friends and family.

Anytime there is a new Avatar and they start talking badly about Kuruk she cannot wait to tell them what actually happened.

This happened with both Roku and Kyoshi.

Kuruk had to physically hold her back from telling you them when the first insult slipped from their mouths.

Speaking of Roku and Kyoshi, Kuruk and Yangchen tease them mercilessly. Especially when it came to dating.

Yangchen would sometimes try to go around in the spirit world to try and calm the dark spirits herself. Though she was unsuccessful.

(Also I can't see why she wouldn't be able to at least try, given that Kuruk kept looking for Ummi even after he passed. So it seems like the Avatar can take some sort of action while in the spirit world after they have passed.)

Yangchen was basically sobbing begging him not to fight father glow worm.

But Kuruk simply said, "I'll see you on the other side."

When he was recovering after the battle she kept telling him to hold on just a little bit longer and that he was too young to die.

I got this idea from @ijjstlostthegame

But Kuruk didn't receive proper medical attention quickly, wanting to keep the whole dark Spirit battles secret. As a result his right arm that he used to punch father glow worm was permanently damaged. Yangchen kept trying to convince him to go to a hospital and have a healer look at it but he refused. When he realized he couldn't been properly with his right arm Yangchen tried to heal it, but the damage had already been done for too long.

When he met/ started dating Ummi, he would talk and rave about her for hours to Yangchen, even though she already knew. But she was happy that he found some happiness after everything with the spirits..... Then Koh came along, and we all know the story there.

Yangchen was probably the only reason Kuruk didn't end himself right after the wedding.

When he passed away, and entered the spirit world, they just spent hours hugging each other. Yangchen constantly apologizing, with Kuruk saying it's fine.

Yangchen would join him sometimes on his hunt for Koh the face stealer to get Ummi back.

When Kuruk told her that he couldn't slay Koh without also killing Ummi, Yangchen secretly went behind his back and offered her own face in exchange for Ummi's freedom. It didn't work.

Out of all the avatars, they probably get along the most.
