Breaking news!
A new tree species has been discovered that grows fences around its trunk for protection!
Scientists hope to hybridise the tree with other species to produce a variety that grows timber fence panels instead of lower branches to aid with boundary disputes.

Here we take a quick look at the fungus Inonotus hispidus, in its black and desicated form
This is more likely how this fungus will be observed as it doesn't stay fresh for long, it is also easily missed due to only remaining on a tree for a short period, making it potentially problematic in terms of tree management.
Often, once this fungus is observed, the probability of tree failure is already increased.

Advice required!
Does anyone know the long term effects of Ganoderma on the structural integrity of a Suzuki Grand Vitara?
In all seriousness, how exciting is the integration and accessibility of augmented reality!?!
Whilst this is a bit of fun, it has great potential, I recently used it to help refresh my mind and guide my thought process by being able to look again at the lower section of a tree by effectively walking around it like being on site, whilst actually being out of the rain in the warmth of the office!
The future is exciting!!!

This strange, jelly-like fungus might look otherworldly, but it has a fascinating secret鈥攊t鈥檚 a parasite! Tremella species, like the golden Tremella mesenterica (also known as "Witch鈥檚 Butter"), don鈥檛 decompose wood directly. Instead, they rely on another fungus to do the hard work for them.
Tremella targets wood-rotting fungi, particularly those in the Stereum genus, invading their cells and hijacking their resources to grow and reproduce. Without their fungal hosts, Tremella wouldn鈥檛 survive!
Next time you see one of these gelatinous fungi on decaying wood, take a closer look鈥攜ou might just spot its unsuspecting host nearby.

Shell buckling, sometimes referred to as hosepipe kinking, is when the remaining shell wall of a hollow tree can no longer support itself.
The fibres then collapse, as seen here.
This was super exciting to find as in my experience it's rare to see this, the tree is normally collapsed completely by the time I find it!
