How + Why I Transitioned to a Natural Deodorant | The Tiny Ashe Blog
1 thing before we get started: If you find this post helpful, will you please do me a huge favor + pin it on Pinterest (or share anywhere else) so we can share the knowledge with others to make their lives easier? :)
Why should you switch from a regular antiperspirant deodorant to a natural deodorant?
Well, for starters antiperspirants are filled with aluminum which clogs our pores + prevents us from sweating, when really sweating is a natural way our bodies remove toxins!
I have a special place in my heart for testing new, interesting, strange + fun beauty products, trends, + DIYs. Thus, when I came across the idea of detoxing my armpits during my transition, I just couldn't wait give it a go + report back to y’all.
Anyone who’s tried switching to natural deodorant knows how difficult it can be. I’ve seen various people complain about their armpits burning, or developing a rash! Some even say “it doesn’t work”, well that is because they probably didn’t realize it takes a month to have your pits detox of all those years of aluminum. (Without the clay detox of course!) Natural deodorant works far better when you detox your armpits first!
Don’t worry! I am about to tell you what you need:
1 teaspoon bentonite clay
1 teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar (AVC)
1 teaspoon of water
Give or take the aforementioned amounts, you want to mix it into a semi-thick paste
Wooden, plastic or ceramic bowl – for mixing — do not use any metals
Wooden, plastic or silicone spatula/spoon – to blend and apply
What you need to do:
Mix apple cider vinegar + bentonite clay in the bowl.
If you have sensitive skin, skip the ACV + use just water. You can also use rose water.
Blend it until you achieve a smooth consistency – with no lumps.
Apply the mask all over your armpits evenly.
Leave it on for about 20-30 minutes or until it dries up.
Clean it off with a warm rag, warm water or in the shower — make sure to dissolve the clay down your drain, or it will clog up!
Pat it dry + use your natural deodorant!
I personally like Schmidt’s or Native.
You can also use the bentonite clay for so many other great uses, like a face masks! It’s basically the same method for your armpits.
For this experiment:
Day 1: I wore no deodorant (luckily it was my work from home day), applied the clay detox.
Day 2: I wore Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant (Charcoal + Magnesium) - It is a little gritty when applying on, but it didn’t bother me at all.
Day 3: Another round of the clay detox + deodorant
Day 4: Deodorant
Day 5: Last round of clay detox
And from there on out, wore deodorant every day like I normally would!
My results:
No rash
No burning
No smells
No irritation
Everything went pretty well, the only con would probably there is, is that it does “stain” on certain shirts around the armpit area, I will update this blog to let you know if it comes out of the clothes in the wash or not!
Granted there are plenty of other brands of natural deodorant, this is just the one I tried, I really like the smell + price point.
xx Ashe
Let me know in the comments your results!

6 Protein Bars to Die For | The Tiny Ashe Blog
Let's talk about protein bars! 😍
We've all have had protein bars, right? At least I hope so. There are SO many choices in the world + it's hard to choose. Admittedly for me! I know that there are the bad protein bars, that tend to taste the best, + then there are the protein bars that are good for you, that tend to not taste as good. Therefore, I have found a plant-based protein bar that IS delicious + good for you! Plant-based, what? But does it really taste good? Yes it does! These protein bars provide all the things we dream of in a protein bar: few ingredients, high protein, low carb content, and great taste. It doesn't sound real, right? But it seems as the all-female company TruWomen has found the perfect forumla. IMO.
I've tried out all 6 current flavors just so I could tell you all about them! Let's get into it, I am gonna keep this short + sweet. Pun intended. 😉
This protein bar brand is all about great taste with clean nutrition: they are non-gmo, vegan, have no sugar alcohols, soy, dairy and is gluten free. They are also kosher certified. 😍
Protein + sugar are not the only important factors when I am looking for a protein bar. Of course, ingredients are so very crucial to having a healthy, yet not overly processed protein bar! These bars aren't quite as simple as others but they're not going overboard either. Win-Win IMO.
I tried the following for a week straight, every morning. I'm horrible at eating breakfast during the work week so my go to is a protein bar + I don't feel guilty about it!
I SCREAM FOR ORANGE CREAM 🍊
Pros:
It really does taste like a delicious orange creamsicle.
It's sweet, chewy-gooey.
Fills you up in the right way.
Doesn't leave you feeling "gross" like other bars I've tried in the past.
Sweet in the right way.
Cons:
None for me! 🤷🏼♀️
SALTYLICIOUS ALMOND LOVE 🌰
Pros:
They don't call it "Saltylicious" for no reason!
This one is sweet + salty in all the right ways. Pun-intended. 😜
It's not too nutty.
It's a good combo of crunch and smoothy goodness.
I also love chocolate, like a lot. Am I being biased here? Maybe...
Cons:
None for me! 🤷🏼♀️
OH OH COOKIE DOUGH 🍪
Pros:
It tastes relatively close to cookie dough!
Who doesn't like cookie dough? We all ignore the "don't eat raw cookie dough" warning...right?
Healthy version of raw cookie dough.
Not too much chocolate - though I could never have enough chocolate...
That right kind of chewy texture.
Cons:
None for me! 🤷🏼♀️
SMOTHER FUDGER PEANUT BUTTER 🥜
Pros:
It tastes like dessert.
My all-time FAVORITE flavor of them all!
A healthy reese's that you'll truly enjoy.
I enjoy the texture very much.
Not too peanut-y.
Cons:
I'm biased as peanut butter + chocolate is my favorite combo! Not sorry.
None for me! 🤷🏼♀️
ZAMN GOOD ZESTY LEMON 🍋
Pros:
If you like a lot of lemon then this one is for you!
Very lemony. This could be considered a con, depending on your lemon-tolerance.
Tangy.
Good texture.
My boyfriend's favorite flavor...I shared with him just a bit!
Cons:
Too much lemon, for me at least.
Too sour.
I couldn't finish eating this one due to too much lemon/sour.
DAYDREAMING ABOUT DONUTS 🍩
Pros:
This flavor is really good.
The outer glaze literally tastes like a donut!
Good texture, not too chewy.
Doesn't make you feel guilty.
Cons:
Totally biased for this one too, I always feel "gross" or guilty after eating a donut...but not this one!
None for me! 🤷🏼♀️

The Truwomen bars ingredients are simple (which is great!) + vegan, which if you're a vegan, you'll love these bars! I didn't feel guilty eating these, + you shouldn't either! I highly suggest trying these out for yourself! Lastly, the Truwomen protein bars have a colorful, vibrant + fun packaging that I enjoy. Great brand appeal! I love great branding...

5 Affordably Cute Sunglasses — Under $12
Sunglasses, Sunglasses + Sunglasses! 😎😎😎
I just wanted to share some of my favorite sunglasses that I love to wear for all sorts of occasions! Because who doesn't wear sunglasses? Especially cute affordable dupes! (My favorite)
If you didn't already know, 😉 our faces are different shapes + sizes! Well, because of that, certain shapes of sunglasses flatter us more than the others. For example, I have a square-to-round face, thus I know that round or square (but not cat-eye) shaped sunglasses suit me far better than any of the other types of sunglasses! Luckily, those are the types of shapes I prefer anyways. Hehe. But that doesn't mean there aren't some out there that I'm just dying to look so good in!
Now, my question for you — do you know what kind of face shape you have? If you don't, I've got a way for you to find out! I have this little handy-dandy information webpage on different face shapes due to my friend called Google! Let's get to it — click here to find out your face shape. Then, choose what shape your face is the closest to. Lastly, it will show you 2-3 shapes of sunglasses that should suit your face the best! 😎
If you want even more on the best sunglasses for your face shape — this goes into much further details, while providing visual examples of women, and of course our favorite celebrities! Check out more details here.
Now, that doesn't mean other shapes outside of the recommendation won't work! I've got a pair I've somehow made work for my face haha....
1. If you haven't seen this style by now, I'm shocked! I'm not sure what they are called, but they make me think of the cartoon Dexter's Laboratory. Anyways, all of the celebs are wearing this sunglass style! + I don't blame them, they really are SO stylish. They are affordable, comfortable and fun! I got mine from Amazon for less than $10.00 USD!
Find them here or Shadyvue has them too - Which I have a 15% off discount! (Keep reading)
2. My favorite Ray Bans dupe! Another Amazon steal! These are like a twist on the classic round raybans, with a square-ish-ness to them. Also, these are the closest I could find to what I was looking for...+ they were under $10.00 USD too! I first saw these on the good ol' instagram account of Lucy Hale, who I adore! She has a really similar pair, and every time I saw an image of her in them, I just had to have them! We all want what we can't have, right? 😬😜 At least I know that I have a similar face shape to hers. Ordering online can be risky. That's why I'm here to help!
So, I search + searched + searched until I found these! As you can see, they are just oh so cute + such a fun shape!
3. Going sleek! I got these bad boys from ShadyVeu + I swear, they make me feel like I am apart of the Kardashian gang! Whether you love or hate them. The Kardashian Klan typically wear some stylish large sunglasses! To me, these exute that! I like them best with my hair pulled back into a low bun. They are only $10.00 USD!
These are called the "Casual Matte Frame" use 'ASH15' for 15% off on any pair on SharyVeu.com!
4. We're almost there...these are That 70's style called "Anne" in Gold + Brown. (Who didn't love That 70's show back in the day?) When I want to go for those warm tones + more of a Boho look. I rock these! Again, I prefer round sunglasses the most due to the shape of my face + the tree hugger in me as well! They are cute, affordable + will always be in style. I think anyone with almost any style could rock these!
These also happen to be from ShadyVeu.com and run for only $12.00 USD. 'ASH15' for 15% off!
5. Big + Square. That are simply called "Square Sunglasses" It took me quite some time to find these, or anything remotely like these! Okay, I'm kind of lying, I did find a pair that ran for about $100! Not knocking them down, because they fit my face perfectly, but this girl, doesn't spend like that. This blog is all about affordability lifestyle anyways! 😉 BUT, finding good dupes did take me a minute!
I got these fun tortoise big square sunglasses from the Banana Republic Factory website. Unforunately, they are currently running for $20.99 which isn't horrible at all! But I did purchase them a while ago for about $12.00 USD. Knowing me, I mostly had a coupon!

8 Affordable Skincare Products — All Under $15
8 Affordable Skincare Products — All Under $15!
Do you want to drastically reduce your wrinkles? To the point that they have appeared to vanish? Do you want soft + smooth skin? And to never hear the dreaded... "you look tired?"
Well... that's what I've achieved. And the best part? It's super affordable.
Don't get me wrong, many factors play into the health and appearance of skin, but developing a regimen that works for you is essential. I'm going to lay out my holy grail products so that you can try them and see for yourself! Many of you should be able to relate to my skin type: normal to oily, with acne that still appears here or there, a lack of sleep sometimes shows under my eyes, and my face may feel dry or greasy depending on the day.
However, for me, I have truly found a product line that works: The Ordinary.
The Ordinary is an effective AND affordable skincare line created by DECIEM. They state that all of their products are: "free of parabens, sulphates, mineral oil, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, animal oils, coal tar dyes, formaldehyde, mercury, oxybenzone" and that they do not "test on animals and does not pay others to do so." Many are also alcohol-free, oil-free, silicone-free, nut-free, vegan, gluten-free and cruelty-free.
I want to mention that this isn't a paid opinion. These are products that have worked for me personally and are so accessible! I cannot recommend them enough. Here's another recommendation: if you try them, remember to always start with a freshly cleansed face!
Here are the 8 skincare products that will revolutionize your routine:
1. I make a lot of facial expressions. It's typical to find me rolling my eyes far enough to see my brain, or scrunching my forehead in "what did you just say?" fashion. For this reason, and many more, my favorite The Ordinary product is "Buffet." It is a "Multi-Technology Peptide Serum," and has dramatically reduced my deep forehead wrinkles to the point that they are almost gone. I am not exaggerating (and they were deep, man!). My crows feet have disappeared entirely, too. It has smoothed, softened, as well as plumped, my skin! I apply it to my forehead, lip area and around my eyes, twice daily, every day. You can also apply to your entire face for some extra oomph! According to DECIEM.com: "This formula combines a comprehensive array of studied technologies to target multiple signs of aging at once." Obvi, I use it so people think I'm 20 instead of 30.
Cost: $14.80 USD for 30ML (It's most expensive product of the 8. Yes, I said the MOST expensive yet effective product is under $15.)
However, I do use two products prior to applying Buffet:
2. Salicylic Acid 2% Solution to treat acne of course! After I cleanse my face, I use this product before any of the others. I apply it to any acne spots or breakouts (because, yes, I still have acne at 27... and that's not uncommon). It works quickly as compared to other acne solutions I've used. It dries the blemishes and, depending how bad the ance is, I notice results the very next day. DECIEM states that it: "helps exfoliate the inside walls of pores to fight the appearance of blemishes and for better visible skin clarity with continued use." This product can be very drying on your skin, so make sure to use it less if you experience dryness.
I use this product twice daily, every day.
Cost: $5.30 USD for 30ML
3. Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG for underneath my eyes, as it reduces the lovely appearance of my eye contour and puffiness. At first, I was a little disappointed because I didn't notice results as quickly as I did with the other products. BUT, it does work. It just takes time. So keep at it! In fact, it's worked so well that I no longer wear under eye concealer to work... and not a single person has told me that I "look tired." Now, if that hasn't sold you, I'm not sure what would! DECIEM states: "This light-textured formula contains an extremely high 5% concentration of caffeine, supplemented with highly-purified Epigallocatechin Gallatyl Glucoside (EGCG) from green tea leaves. Independent studies have shown that topical use of each of caffeine and EGCG can help reduce looks of puffiness and of dark circles in the eye contour. Additional studies have shown that caffeine can also reduce the appearance of cellulite."
Cost: $6.70 USD for 30ML
I use this product twice daily, every day. A little goes a long way!
4. Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion. It sounds a bit harsh, right? Well, it sort of is! This is a night product, and you need to stay out of the sun when using unless you want irritation! But its an unbeatable product to fight the signs against aging. Make sure to use this retinoid product after any water base serums (like "Buffet").
How does this one work? See below:
DECIEM: "This formulation combines two forms of next-generation retinoid actives: a) A 2% concentration of Granactive Retinoid which is a complex of solubilized Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate (HPR). HPR is a highly-advanced form of retinoid which is, in fact, a non-prescription ester of all-trans direct retinoic acid that offers a multi-fold better effect against signs of aging than retinol, retinyl palmitate and nearly all other forms of non-prescription retinoid; b) A sustained-delivery form of pure retinol in a protective capsule system which supports both the delivery and the effect of Granactive Retinoid. Both forms of retinoid used avoid the irritation associated with retinoids (including retinol) use while delivering better visible results against signs of aging."
Cost: $9.80 USD for 30ML
I use this product once a day, at night, every night.
5. 100% Cold-Pressed Virgin Marula Oil. This is the product that led me The Ordinary line. I was previously using Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil, and just didn't want to keep paying the big bucks for it. Even though the results were there. Drunk Elephant's marula oil goes for $40 USD for 15ML and $72 USD for 30ML! So ya girl Googled and Googled until she found an affordable, but comparable, alternative in The Ordinary! I took the plunge and purchased it, and I do not regret the switch. This oil hydrates my face and makes my skin feel baby soft every morning! Marula oil has antioxidants that helps hydrate the skin and restore a "radiant tone." It is marvelous in every sense of the word and insanely affordable!
DECIEM: "This formula contains the highest quality cold-pressed virgin Marula oil that is naturally aroma neutral and non-greasy."
Cost: $9.90 USD for 30ML
I use this product once a night, every night.
Feeling dry? Try these products (6+7) after the others:
6. Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5. It's a natural acid found in our skin for hydration support. Kinda cool, right? Well, according to DECIEM: "Hyaluronic Acid (HA) can attract up to 1,000 times its weight in water. The molecular size of HA determines its depth of delivery in the skin." In essence, it is our surface's natural hydration. Which is why I use it whenever I need a little extra moisture, and, in this case, hydration at 1,000 times it's weight. 😉 It is a bit gooey - so be aware when applying!
"Note: Hyaluronic Acid is found in the skin naturally but its natural function within the skin is not hydration. Many products have used HA to claim hydration benefits, but HA is too large of a molecule to penetrate the skin and instead sits on the surface and can draw moisture out of the skin making the surface feel soft and hydrated temporarily, while making you feel like you need more HA after the product is rinsed. This formula uses three forms of HA with varying molecular weights, as well as an HA crosspolymer, to offer multi-depth hydration and visible plumping without drawing water out of the skin solely to improve temporary surface hydration." - DECIEM
Cost: $6.80 USD for 30ML
I use this product as needed.
7. Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA. This product makes my skin feel comfortable + smooth. Be aware that it is a lotion, whereas all of the others are oils. Sometimes I use this more as a facial moisturizer, alternating it with one from a different line.
According to DECIEM: "Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMF) are elements that keep the outer layer of the skin protected and well-hydrated. MF are made up of multiple amino acids, fatty acids, triglycerides, urea, ceramides, phospholipids, glycerin, saccharides, sodium PCA, hyaluronic acid and many other compounds that are naturally present in the skin."
Clearly, the science is working because my skin looks 7+ years younger than I actually am! 😉
Cost: $7.70 USD for 100ML
I use this product as needed.
Last but not least:
8. AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution. A 10-min exfoiliating facial that exfoliates the top surface of your skin to fight visible blemishes while also providing a more even appearance. This product is bright red! You, essentially, look like a strawberry. And it feels a bit tingly! I can really feel it working, and highly recommend to not leave it on ANY longer than 10 mins. Seriously. This product contains a very high concentration of free acids! After rinsing off this strawberry-looking solution, my face feels like the skin of a BABY! Like, if you could feel a baby's face and then my face, I would challenge you to tell the difference! 😂 ... really, though!
This one is quite effective, but a little intense, so I recommend reading up on it: AHA + BHA
Cost: $7.20 USD for 30ML
I use this product no more than once a week. DECIEM recommends no more than twice a week.
Total cost of all 8 items: $60.20 USD
I'm sorry, what? Wondering if you read that right? YOU DID! All 8 of these effective skincare products cost $60.20 in total (before taxes with free shipping). AND they last me anywhere from 1-2+ months!
TIP: Apply Buffet + Marula Oil to your neck and the back of your hands. Telling signs of aging go beyond our faces, our necks and the back of our hands tend to age just as much as they do! Don't forget about these often neglected areas!
Wondering where to purchase The Ordinary? Well, of course from the company that created the line: DECIEM.com or sometimes I buy from Beautylish.com. Both have the same prices and provide free shipping over $25-35 USD. If you want the stickers that I use to keep track of the order use, purchase from Beautylish.com (they're free with any The Ordinary purchase).
I hope you have found this helpful and that you're ready to take the plunge like I did! If you decide to try the products, let me know what you think!
I am SO happy with my results. Truly.
xx Ashe

Go-To Travel Essentials (tips for carrying-on!) ✈️
Whether for work, leisure or wanderlust, we all travel at some point in our lives. For this reason, I want to share my go-to travel essentials, as well as some tips that are easy, budget-friendly and relevant—whether you are comfortable at home or a seasoned traveler! I prefer to only bring a carry-on suitcase + personal item. Both are free with Southwest, my preferred airline. If it's at all possible to avoid the baggage carousel, count me in! Obvi sometimes its a must depending on the location and duration of trip, but I can't stand waiting on checked bags! After all, once off the plane, aren't we all itching to get where we're trying to go?
So let's start with luggage. I had experienced quite a few issues with my previous suitcases until I found one that I LOVE! With a typical suitcase or duffle, all of my liquids and small items would get SMASHED, or the zipper (and my personal contents) would explode, etc. You name it, really! And, trust me, I had put my liquids in all different areas of the suitcase... did everything I could, and it would still happen, no matter what, especially when checking a bag. We all know baggage handlers literally CHUCK your belongings, so we have to take matters into our own hands!
The resolution? A hardshell suitcase. I wanted multiple sizes, without the large price tag, as well as a fun and stylish color that I could easily identify in a sea of bags. I am usually all for black, in its glory, but fighting everyone and their mother over whose is whose just isn't worth it! The hardshell cases I have are lightweight, roll very well, easy to clean, super cute, durable, equipped with saftey locks + best of all - nothing explodes! The 3-piece set I purchased have been perfect for for all different types of trips. While each is great, I just obvi use the carry-on size the most:
And the price-point is ridiculously affordable!
Most of my trips are about 4 days long so a carry-on works really well!
Here are my go-to-carry-on liquids + accessories:
Bamboo Charcoal Toothbrush (comes with Charcoal Toothpaste) - Remember, I love everything charcoal.
Overtone Pastel Silver Daily Conditioner Travel Size to maintain my cool-toned blonde locks (10$ off thru direct link)
Dove Deoderant - Nobody wants to smell bad
Face Toner (from Ipsy)
Facial Cleanser, that is so sudsy + gentle! (from Ipsy)
Mini vaseline for those chapped lips (from Target)
Whitegirl Sunscreen
Travel Size Toothpaste of choice
+ more!
Because I am a Professional Photographer + always want my camera + laptop with me, I use a Kamrette backpack as my personal item. [insert camera backpack photo here] (I'll be sharing my camera gear in another post! So stay tuned!) I make sure the backpack still has tons of space to organize other items, in addition to my gear, that I need to be accessible at all times on my trips!
What I bring on my trips in my personal backpack/bag:
Camera Gear (obvi, I use only #canon)
DagneDover Slim Wallet in black (10% off thru direct link)
Passport in it's cute RFID holder
Plane Tickets (or why bother? 😜)
Laptop
Chargers (for Macbook Pro + phone)
Nintendo 3DS to play while on the plane
Sunglasses
Misc. - that's what the extra space + pockets are for
(Not shown is the backside where the laptop goes, and the 2 side phone pockets, and obvi I needed my camera to take the images ;)
A new travel accessory I've been dying to add to my travel essentials is the Calpak Travel Wallet. I just order it in black, for myself, because #TreatYoSelf? #MyEarlyBirthdayGiftToMyself - I will have to get back to y'all on how much I love or somehow hate the travel wallet!
As far as my staple items/clothes, I try to pack 2 outfits per day, and 1-3 pairs of shoes that go with all of my outfits and allow me to dress them up or down. I add extra accessories as I am able - anything that fits, of course! ;) We all want options, am I right?
Tip: If you don't already know, ROLL YOUR CLOTHES. It saves a ton of space. And if you have anything like a laptop to worry about, wrap your clothes around it + stick it in the middle of the suitcase! Also, put your footwear inside of a shower cap or a bag to keep those bottom-of-your-shoes-germs away from everything else!
