to those who say they are intersectional feminists and trans-inclusive (particularly cis ones): please please please be careful of how you talk about (cis) men. it can start to lead into bioessentialism, whether you know/mean it or not. it comes off as how conservatives talk about men and women, just with a progressive twist.

men aren't a different species. marginalized men exist. don't leave us out of your intersectional feminism simply because we are men. our masculinity/manhood doesn't negate any other marginalized identities we might have. remember that.

They moved the year after Jake’s bar mitzvah. He had already stopped going to Hebrew school by that point, but this was a new, specific kind of loss. Not just that there was no synagogue on Deep Space 9, but that there wasn’t this specific congregation, the adults who had beamed at him proudly as he stepped up to the bema, the rabbi who had coached him through careful pronunciation of every line, the other kids who threw jelly candies at him with gleeful abandon. His grandfather hated space, never left Earth if he could help it, but he had traveled all the way to Utopia Planitia for an aliyah. Jake wore a tallit for the first time in that synagogue, the same one now flung haphazardly in his bags alongside his jumpsuits and books, getting wrinkled.

“I didn’t realize you liked going to shul so much,” his dad said teasingly. Jake didn’t answer. Services weren’t the point; the people were.

Dad added, “There’s a Bajoran temple on the station. Maybe we can visit there together.”

Jake slumped lower in his seat and rested his head against the rim of the viewport next to their seats.

“Yeah,” he muttered. “Maybe.”

finished earthsea all the books all the stories and all the le guin's notes about the stories... feels like this, but i am so glad i went on this amazing journey <3 i remember when i was a kid or teen i'd skip all the author notes forever, but when i was reading this time, it was as engaging as the stories themselves
