Damn. So he is here.
I actually wished I wouldn't see Celeborn in tRoP. Seriously. Sincerely. Or with whatever word that tells my feeling.
Did they really have to make him alive? Okay, I was kidding. I'm quite happy to see him alive, with long silver hair, and... well. But the truth is, I don't want to watch it. I don't want him to be in that show, where Galadriel thought her husband is dead and then started to flirt with Sauron. It's totally ridiculous to be honest. And it pains me to see Celeborn in that universe.
After all, tRoP is not happening in Tolkien's Middle-Earth, and we know this. I'm not sure if I can love him while I can't even love the story.

WHY does everyone forget CELEBRIAN and CELEBORN?
Yes, Arwen knew her mother and loved her.  Grew up with her around and you know what?  SHE WAS AN AMAZING ROLE MODEL.  What?  You think Elrond married a ditzy woman?  Celebrian is awesome.
Yes, Galadriel IS married and happily so and her husband is EQUALLY awesome and is known as THE WISE.  He is powerful and just because he is a Sinda doesn’t make him a fool, ok?  I would hope Galadriel would marry someone she respects and loves and that is what I believe.

It always irritates me when they say it's middle-earth. To me, it's just another American fantasy drama with a worrior girl vaguely looks like Galadriel from lotr movies.
How they convinced themselves that they are showing the real story is quite a mystery.
It just keeps getting worse for the Rings of Power. Here are some cast member/producer statements regarding the show.
She (the chick playing Disa) explained, “It’s their time and it’s so important and I hope many people will see this fantasy and be able to relate to it. This is a reflection of the world we live in, there are many and we are different and we will embrace and discover, and peel back, and learn, and educate, and be educated.”
This show should not reflect our world; it should reflect Tolkien's world. People also have not had a problem relating to it which is why it's one of the best selling fiction works in history. Is this show going to be preachy ("educate and be educated")? People generally don't like being preached at/talked down to and I can't see this going over well.
These cast statements echo what Executive Producer of the series Lindsey Weber told Vanity Fair back in February, “It felt only natural to us that an adaptation of Tolkien’s work would reflect what the world actually looks like.”
It seems to me that the only natural thing to do was to reflect Tolkien's world if you are doing a Tolkien adaptation. Make no mistake, this will not be an adaptation. They will not be telling his story with his characters (there was no warrior Galadriel, Miriel was never queen or queen regent, and they have more original characters listed so far than actual Tolkien characters and that alone is a huge red flag). It will be a veneer of Tolkien so thin that if you barely scratch it, it will disappear.
This is going to be very expensive fan fiction written/produced by people who don't actually seem to be fans. I love fan fic. I write it and read it. I like AUs, modern AUs, smut fics, and other things that vary quite a bit from Tolkien's stories and characters. It's cool to have fun with it and sometimes do crazy things. But, when someone buys the rights to actually use the real thing, I expect a proper adaptation. That doesn't mean you can't take some liberties and make some changes so that the material works better for film/tv, but it should not be so different as to be unrecognizable in character/theme/storyline.
If you watch this as a generic fantasy show, you might enjoy it. I'm not impressed by anything so far. The costumes/props mostly look cheap and like they came from Party City (seriously some of the helmets/armor/crowns look plastic), the elves just look like regular people with pointy ears, and the "not hobbits" (yes, Harfoots are hobbits!) look like they rolled around in dirt/trash and then decided to go on about their day.
One last thing, do you know what the show is supposed to be about based on any of the trailers that have been released? It's called The Rings of Power yet there has been no mention of rings or of their creation. Obviously as Tolkien fans, we have a general idea of what they might cover but you can't tell that from the promotional material alone. If I didn't know anything about Tolkien, I would think this is a world that had been at war, the war is now over and some people think it will be a time of peace and others think more conflict is on the horizon. Also a meteor lands somewhere. I can't work up any excitement for a such a bland, generic plot.

So we're getting "warrior woman cOMMandeR Of ThE aRmies OF thE nORTH Joan of Arcadia Galadriel" who will undoubtedly be a hideous Mary Sue, as such characters usually are.
Don't get me started on, I know she may have fought at some point, but almost all the references seem to suggest any mility involvment was alongside her husband Celeborn. In the preview pics she looks about 15, and no Celeborn is to be seen even though they were living in Lindon at the time ths series is meant to be set.
Yet Glorfindel, the warrior Elf who Tolkien actually created is still being ignored. You know, the Balrog slayer who once held off all nine of the Nazgul and might have been given powers akin to a Maiar when he was re-embodied? That Glorfindel. What is Amazon's excuse for not including him, and stealing his armour for not!Galadriel*? (This is the name I have given her character to distinguish her from the canon Galadriel, Lady of Lorien, that we know and love.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We don't need "hello I am a cool, pretty Disney warrior Princess" Galadriel. We have Glorfindel, a better character by far than Amazon's ripoff not!Galadriel will ever be.
Tolkien fandom, come together. Let Amazon know how we feel.
Like, comment or share if you want to see Glorfindel in live action.
Or just to show our lad some love.

*Or it may be Maedhros' armour.

They might have blond hair. Blond. BLOND.
Celeborn (and probably Celebrian) has SILVER , LONG and BRIGHT hair. Surely they wouldn't miss that?
But oh well, we're talking about ROP. They couldn't even match Elrond's black hair.

Good news: ROP will be portraying Celeborn and Celebrian

I think I actually know the answer.
But seriously, where is he now? Raising his daughter alone? Or waiting for his worrior-commander wife to come back, like some useless husband (which he was not)? Are they even married in the drama?
It’s weird to see Galadriel without him. She really looks like a girl who just realized she had lost all of her family and should do something to treat her anxiety.

Things I want to see in the LOTR on prime series: (are these petty. Yes, yes they are. But the pre-exile Noldor were Petty Queens™️ so sue me... or maybe that was mostly Feanor and Artanis?)
1. Galadriel better have THE most fabulous, shiny, deep gold laced with silver hair. Her actress, Morfyyd Clark, apparently won “best wig” on-set so I’m hopeful.
2. Celeborn better make an appearance. His wife is supposed to be one of the main characters for freak’s sake.
3. Celeborn better have ACTUAL silver hair. Not that weird platinum blonde with some sort of grey mixed in that the movie had. ACTUAL SILVER Y’ALL (not the metal, the color)
4. Amanyar elves should look clearly distinguishable from the others. I want to be able to see how their eyes glint/shine with the light of the trees. I want to see them glow in the dark. Galadriel and possibly Glorfindel are the only named characters that I can think of that are Amanyar during the 2nd age, but it would be cool if you had one or two extras in the background as well.
5. I’ve changed my mind and decided that having a proper representation of Celeborn (ie not the literal doormat statue that he was during the movie) supersedes Glorfindel considering his wife is one of the main characters, but I’d also want to see Glorfindel especially if Elrond is supposed to be one of the main characters. I assume he’ll be seneschal of Rivendell by the late 2nd age so there’s definitely some places to add him in during the Last Alliance plot line (specifically during the 3 years they spend preparing for the war in Imladris), even though I know he probably won’t be a huge character. (And it’s a long-running tv show so there won’t be the same problems as “how are we supposed to introduce this character who needs a massive backstory just for one scene” that the FOTR movie had)
6. And I want Glorfindel’s hair to be gold, not platinum blonde, YOU HEAR ME. GOLD!
7. I’d really like to see some of the female elves with actual updos. Idk why PJ made the decision that all elves only do like half-up styles. Those styles wouldn’t work for battle me thinks when you have plated metal that it can get caught on. I guess Glorfindel is the exception considering he literally died by getting pulled down from his hair (and it’s later mentioned that his locks flowed behind him when riding Asfaloth), but Galadriel had to take down her braid to give Gimli strands of her hair, and Arwen wore a jeweled veil headpiece to the dinner in Imladris (during FOTR), so I don’t think ALL elves did that same sort of style. Would be nice so see a little variation.
Btw before anyone goes, wow you really hate platinum blondes don’t you? No, I am literally platinum blonde myself. And that’s the thing, the elves with hair that is considered exceptionally fabulous should have hair that’s not “unnatural” (like neon yellow) but also not completely attainable by human hair. Is this kind of my own headcanon? Sure but the you also got to consider that no human has seen the light of the Trees.
